  1. Sorry I am not so certain. I visited LPS on Sat night and asked virtually every operator if there was a new ride being prepared for the old Flying Saucer site and every one of them said no. Now of course we all take what operators say with a grain of salt, but I was left with the distinct impression that this information was correct- several were adamant that nothing was being installed in the short term. Which leaves us with where you have got your info Mr Me. Also, there is nothing that has been done to the Flying Saucer site to say that it is being prepared for a new attraction, as far as I could see. The "new" decals are very similar to what was there when the Flying Saucer was in existence( see attached pic), and this could have been cosmetic work to tidy up the area for New Years Eve celebrations. The site was used as a viewing platform for LPS NYE fireworks party. Unfortunately, I do not think that a new ride will be coming to LPS in the first half of 2015. Some updates on my visit: IMHO, the residents should have no issue with the lighting suite on Hair Raiser. It is very low key and is only lit on the 2 sides that are facing away from the Cliffside. The ball at the top was not lit up. There are also very few screams from this ride-it should not breach any noise regulations ( not that the residents can use this as a point of attack anymore due to legislation.) I think its unlikely that Hair Raiser is going to be pulled down at this stage, and that LPS will go over a fine tooth comb for any new DA for any new ride it wishes to install. The Pirates Revenge flume was very popular and is a great summer addition. The Lego Toy Brick exhibition was also very popular and a good dual attraction in bringing families to the park. Even though the weather turned wet, there was still a good crowd enjoying the rides and the atmosphere right up until close. Tango Train was in full use and appeared to be running well and was a very popular ride. Rumours of its imminent demise appear overly exaggerated. . Coney Islands Wonky walk was not operating again- this makes 2 years running that I have visited the park and this attraction has been down. I sincerely hope LPS are keeping up to date with their obligations towards this heritage listed attraction. All in all there were 3 families in my group with 6 kids who had an awesome time. They certainly got their moneys worth for the 9 hours we were in the park with many re-rides on every attraction. Hopefully LPS can get back on track this year , put the Hair Raiser DA debacle behind them and get on with their renewal plans. LPS is always worth a visit in the January school holidays.
  2. Attractions. It really should have been a direct replacement for when the Pirate Ship was removed, as you have stated. The fact that SeaViper is now gone as well only exacerbates that need. Surfrider would be an excellent addition to a park that is in dire need of rides to balance out their offering that is heavily skewed towards shows and animal attractions. One major ride installation to replace SeaViper and another smaller ride ( which is where Surfrider would be ideal) would be ideal in addressing this imbalance, in my opinion.
  3. Well as they say, opinions are like arseholes......everyone has one!! Some are just bigger than others!!!
  4. Thanks mate. Love your work. Great pics of Turbo Mountain, which unfortunately was retired before I got the chance to ride it. Looking forward to your trip updates!
  5. Yeah. Hopefully the ludicrousness of these allegations will illicit the same reactions from the ruling body and treat them with the contempt they deserve. It boils my blood to think that in this situation,a minority who has obvious wealth thinks they can dictate their own terms and conditions despite the stupidity of their claims. Fingers crossed that saintly prevails!
  6. I agree 100% with you AlexB. Surf rider, IMHO , is a wasted asset at Wet N Wild. SeaWorld would be a far better fit , especially in the vacuum left by Sea Vipers removal. Hopefully, a move to Seaworld would be genuinely considered in the near future.
  7. Both The Pinfari Wacky Worm and the new walkthrough attraction in the Town Hall building, the "Illusionarium", will be open in early 2015, according to Aussie World. Not sure what the hold up has been since the coaster has been constructed since at least October. Another 2 attractions will see Aussie World really start to round out as a very good family destination and a very viable alternative to the big Gold Coast parks.
  8. I am pretty certain that Turbo Mountain was scrapped. Maybe Mark would be able to provide a definitive answer, if he would be so kind?
  9. It was only 12 months ago Yoshi that Freakout was at LPS....it was the first major the ride had done after being purchased new. Its a great ride and I would love to see it permanently at LPS.
  10. Oh no AlexB.....you didn't just raise the ghost of RWC!!! :-)
  11. Ah!! In think you will find he is referring to the annual temporary Xmas rides that LPS install every year in these holidays. This year the Pirates Revenge flume is going to be installed with other rides yet to be confirmed.
  12. What new ride are you referring too Mr Me? AFAIK there was not any new ride that was planned to be open before Xmas. This could delay the overall timeline for a new ride or a direct replacement of Flying Saucer, but since no replacement has been ordered or even planned at this stage, its not something that we can really attribute to the woes of Hair Raiser. The Hair Raiser problem was one the park was not anticipating and since the ride is still open, we can keep our fingers crossed that this particular issue has been solved quietly in the background.
  13. Please do not take this the wrong way Nitro and it may be just me, but the drawing you posted looks like it should belong along on websites that children should not look at............
  14. Also Timezone Gold Coast won the best Family Entertainment Centre in the world. Australia's local parks and industry were well represented and punching well above our weight! Excellent.
  15. Awesome Iwerks! Well done Luna Park. This is great recognition for a small park , even by Australian standards.
  16. IMHO this park is screaming for one or 2 quality flat rides. SeaWorld needs to restore the balance somewhat in their ride to attraction ratio. They now have lost over the years 3 rides ( Thrillseeker, Pirate Ship and SeaViper) without any direct replacement. And also sorry I have to disagree- flats are essential in any theme park to flesh out and bring diversity to the attraction offering. They definitely belong in Theme Parks. Just look at the numerous examples of well themed flats in some of the best theme parks in the business- including Disneyland.
  17. I actually do not think that this will hurt Aussie World in the slightest. The pub is still there, it will still be a huge attraction smack bang on the Bruce Highway. All its lost is the "Ettamogah" name, a name which really does not lend itself heavily into the here and now or being particularly relevant. It can still sell itself as an Aussie branded iconic pub without the Ettamogah name just as successfully. This also means that they do not have to pay to licence the name, a move which can now be reinvested back into the park. Its been a while since we have heard anything from Aussie World on the ride front. Their website has no mention of the new Pinfari kiddie coaster nor the walkthrough attraction in the Town Hall that was mentioned a few months back. I would have expected them to be open by now- can any board member enlighten us?
  18. Just found this very interesting little You Tube snippet on Action Park. It shows 9 minutes of footage from advertisements from the 80's. Have a look at some of the insane things that people in this park were able to do. If this park was in existence today in this form, it would be a lawsuit just waiting to happen. Of particular interest at 8min:20 sec is the only known footage of the infamous Cannonball Loop slide- the world's first "looping" waterslide. The ride only opened for a month before being closed due to too many injuries, Here you can see the ride quickly in action. Urban myth was that they sent a dummy down to test it, and it came out with no head....... This is ironic to find this footage now, especially with the recent test footage of the "new" looping waterslide in action. I have also included the footage of the brand new looping water slide from Avalanche waterslides, This thing is also going to be a monster! However the ride is done in a capsule which is very different from the Cannonball Run at Action Park. This is only a test model at this stage but I am sure it will not be long before a US park installs one. Anyway enjoy.I am sure this will produce some good reactions. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDHqfhyCbbM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Ex4oWtLTGY
  19. Sounds brilliant!! Adventure World are really stepping up in their efforts to be a national destination. Another good investment with a good ride choice will seriously influence people's decision to visit Perth and WA just to visit Adventure World alone.....its brilliant how the park is expanding and growing. Now if Jamberoo can pull their finger out and move on with their expansion plans plus Aussie World's continual growth, we are starting to see some real competition to the Gold Coast's Big 4 parks....and that means a healthier industry for all in Australia. I am very much looking forward to what Adventure World has in store for us next year Mark. Brilliant!
  20. Actually thats not a bad thread-my order was typically hypothetical but what does everyone feel is the order of the top 10 theme parks in Australia? Reasons to back your order should be given. Let the debate commence! :-)
  21. So you scorn the ride , say you don't like it and then recommend it for one of our park's? And of all parks you pick Luna Park Sydney for a 500 foot tall coaster? Seriously.........???? Wow.
