Just on the point about trams and roundabouts....the road rule in that situation in Victoria is that trams passing through roundabouts have right of way.

On the Gold Coast, they are seen as moving targets and as such are worth bonus points when you hit them :D

@pin142 Keeping in mind that Queensland doesn't operate on daylight savings time, meaning that closing at 8pm is the equivalent of closing at 9pm in NSW.

So, they would be matching Sydney's opening hours just by opening from 9am to 7pm - which both DW and WnW are ALMOST doing.

Plus (adjusting for daylight savings), sunset in Sydney is 23 minutes later than Brisbane today, for instance. This being of course because Sydney sits further west.

  3. My traffic light comment is more about all the traffic lights on the system, even with the priority setup in place, these do impact headway.

And as Gazza pointed out, the Harbour Town branch will consume a lot of the services. The crossovers and stub line for the branch are being built as part of stage 2.

  4. @Jamberoo Fan not quite that simple, as the light rail interacts with traffic lights etc, that has to be factored into the headway. Plus ease of use for passengers to not get the wrong service.

I'm struggling to see why a dedicated bus or three can't handle this job as a shuttle?

Rail is intended to do the "heavy lifting" with buses etc feeding to and from interchanges. The time lost to transferring to a bus should be less than waiting for the one every 25 minute light rail service.

And yes, that's a train nut telling you to catch a bus :P

  5. Thinking like the media or general public, it's a separate park and different rides.

Plus the distance helps with the apparent separation.

Don't forget the image management people will be calling the shots, it's all about a positive reopening for the park. I'd suspect even the staff evening falls into that. 7 news hardly focussed on the incident tonight, it was more about the good things the park is doing.

How are those markets anyway? Noticed them from the cruise terminal a few weeks back and thought it looked pretty small and crappy for all the good reviews it gets

We enjoy them, but a few tips,  be early to secure a park close by, if weather is dicey or you want to sit, get a table early and have one person always sit at it.

We spent about three hours there (and $200) between four of us a few weeks ago.

So the Dreamworld reopening web page mentions no Thrill Rides, nor Log or Vintage Cars are to reopen at this stage. No mention of the train and the Baldwin though, do we think it will return? I hope this incident wasn't a nail in the coffin of them running the steam locomotive. Time will tell I guess...

Unless there is a specific issue with the Baldwin, I'd expect to see it running again, otherwise every other heritage steam locomotive in Queensland would be stopped too. ARHS and QR are running their trips this weekend, QPSR next weekend so I don't think that will happen.

You would expect all operations involving the public and any risks (even well mitigated risks) will come under closer scrutiny over the coming year or so.
