  1. I think as Joz said there are a lot of opinions being formed out of assumptions. Its and assumption to think Dreamworld has a plan. Likewise it’s an assumption to decide they have no plan. Its also an assumption that Village will ‘charge’ from day one even though not everything is open. Being as all of these are just that, assumptions, I don’t think it’s sensible to form opinions, pro or con against the parks. Just want to make it clear that this is my issue in this thread. Not that I’m loving Village or Hating Dreamworld.
  2. I’m only against criticisms that are unjustified and emotionally driven. If people don’t want a half closed park then don’t visit until it’s fully open. For you that’s no different than if it remained closed until ready for everything to open. But for people who would like to visit with at least some things available they can now do so. Why is it bad for Village to half open, but it’s fine for Dreamworld to not open at all? I don’t get it. I’ll never get the idea of going somewhere you don’t like and then complaining about how much you don’t like it. As for maintenance. Ride maintenance requires people to work closely together in groups. For much of the closure this wouldn’t have been possible so people can forget the idea that all the maintenance has been done over this time and everything is ready to rock now. There would be a large backlog.
  3. There’s a simple approach to take it you’re not happy with the offering. Don’t go. Or perhaps visit the place you don’t like and then afterwards complain about how much you didn’t like it. That the 2020 way isn’t it?
  4. It’s almost like the theme park’s are owned by publicly traded companies that have responsibilities to shareholders...
  5. The article states they are suing them for misleading shareholders that the park had good safety practices prior to the accident and because they were lying and didn’t the share price plummeted after the accident. I’d say the park will have a hard time arguing against such a case. Im sure it’s all park of a highly developed plan which includes delaying reopening and welcoming negative press as a strategy though.
  6. You’re more than entitled to have your own opinions of the company and the way it’s properties are run. And you’ve listed a lot of reasonable points, which I have no desire to argue. My point was specifically about COVID-19 (this is the thread for that after all) and I stand by my position that the negativity originated from once place. I am only arguing in this thread the notion the criticism of their handling of corona, and then the statement in regards to safety. And I’m yet to see anything credible posted to counter my argument. But yes, all of your above general thoughts on their parks I won’t dispute. I won’t agree with them all either, but they are valid opinions none the less.
  7. But let’s be honest this was going on before COVID. It’s this whole ‘Tactics’ business people keep saying. All VRTP did was the same as most every business in Australia, attempting to do business as long as they could and get open as soon as they can. The only difference between the two companies is one was better at it and more resourced. The underdog IMO is someone like Aussie World. Ardent are a giant company that was grossly mismanaged, allowed a tragic accident to happen and then incompetently handled the entire aftermath and continues to flounder. That doesn’t make them an underdog to me, that makes them unfit for duty. Ardent needs a huge money injection and leadership that actually knows what it’s doing. From the outside it appears like they have one seasoned industry professional that knows theme parks in management, and a bunch of incompetent fools above and around them. Not once in the whole pandemic has VRTP gone against government directives. Sure they have actively campaigned for assistance from the government and a way to open as quickly as possible. But show me one industry that hasn’t done that? Shrewd maybe, but evil, no IMO
  8. We have a no doxing rule here and I feel a bit weird about name dropping people who don’t choose to come on here. But anyone who knows the theme park circles will know the previous Maintenance Manager for VRTP who only finished up last year. You’d be hard pushed to find anyone who would say a bad word about them.
  9. The problem is people aren’t even hating on Village. They are hating on one person (god knows why) who’s in leadership there, and then projecting that onto an entire company. What I find more baffling on this is the current COO of VRTP has more passion for the company and the industry than anyone who’s been in that roll for at least 12 years or more. Someone who’s the exact type of person who people say should be in that roll, someone who’s risen through the ranks of the company from entry level, rather than some outside non industry person out of touch with either the country or the industry or both. Ive just no idea why a group of people have taken so much reach to turn a Facebook comment they disagreed with into an entire hatred of an entire company. Yet the rose coloured glasses seem to be out in full force in regards to Ardent who just constantly fail and disappoint. Everyone is entitled to their own misguided opinion. But I take great issue when someone throws an allegation of unsafe practices around which is totally unfounded. As for talk of engineering personnel. Village were smart enough to have one of the most professional and respected people at the top of their maintenance department. He had enough oversight not to let the kind of unchecked ego driven people making decisions that affect guest safety. And that’s the difference between the management of the two companies.
  10. I mean I wear glasses so anything is possible and indeed likely
  11. Are you daft? What does that idiotic comment have to with anything. The comment made above said the park toed the line on safety. So in respect to that, Green Lantern is irrelevant. But I’m not going to have a stupid argument about it because there is no need.
  12. Because a manufacturer design floor that was undetectable by a park following all prescribed procedures to the letter cannot be considered a safety failing by the park. That’s why.
  13. Please do. I guarantee no one will remove such a post. But it simply won’t be true I can assure you of that. Please don’t let one of your comments be regarding Green Lantern.
  14. That might be it too. However to me the writing looks backwards 🤷‍♂️
  15. Well in regards to safety, no they haven’t. They’ve always been a leader in safety of both guests and staff alike. So the suggestion otherwise is quite out of order I feel.
  16. Actually looks like themed/printed fencing scrims to be honest.
  17. Sounds more to be Dreamworld hadn't got their shit together/don't have the cash to reopen at present, and were blindsided by a VRTP announcement. Then they've rushed out a PR release implying this is all part of their plan, and then made a (VERY) thinly veiled jab at VRTP implying they are staying closed because they don't want to rush safety. Basically implying that VRTP care less about safety. Let's just not even go there in regards to the irony in Dreamworld suggesting someone else is cavalier when it comes to safety.
  18. Pfft Big Thunder Mountain killed someone because the park consciously cut maintenance costs and they stopped bothering to inspect things. Probably one of the most ridden coasters in the world. Don’t be saying the reason other rides have re opened is because they didn’t kill someone. PS Big Thunder was also home built in house FWIW
  19. Reportedly Bush Gardens is a total shit show in regards to social distancing, masks and hygiene so a token sanitising every hour seems a bit like pissing in the wind really.
  20. I'd say it's Sea World that would be an ideal park for a Rapids anyway
  21. Yes most definitely, and that's something that enters the medial/scientific realm that I don't have adequate knowledge on. But it would be interesting to explore. Certainly for the outdoor rides, the empty cycles approach seems to make a lot of sense.
  22. So it’s widely accepted that temperature has an effect but more importantly sunlight with its UV content is destructive to the virus. You don’t expose humans to the UV light. I’m not sure as to your knowledge level on lighting, but it’s possible to focus light (including UV) in a way that is directional and thus doesn’t contact anyone outside of the desired area. The virus is 100% not transmitted into the body via Skin Contact. The reason you can’t shake hands etc is because people can’t be trusted to not touch their mouth, or another orifice after possibly contacting the virus with their hands, etc. That’s why you have to sanitize your hands correctly before touching your face (ie after you ride).
  23. I’d argue the point that there is no need. But agree on the other points, mainly because Australia is stupid.
  24. It’s probably the hardest attraction at Sea World to deal with in relation to Covid-19 so maybe just easier to leave it closed and say it’s under maintenance.
  25. So I read an interesting commentary from the US parks yesterday and I think it make a a lot of sense. COVID-19 can’t really survive in the sunlight/warmth for more than a few minutes. So rather than any silly cleaning regime it wood make more sense for our parks to simply cycle and empty train after each ride to speed up operations. The problem will be if they are prepared to accept that increased wear and tear. Similarly the virus is not transmitted by skin contact. So if you make a mask compulsory for riders, you really don’t need any distancing on trains, just provide sanitizer at the exit and make people use it when leaving the ride in case they picked up anything off a surface during the ride (and could therefore pass it into their mouth, etc through touch). This is a problem for something like Scooby which is indoor entirely though. If I was the park I’d actually have been looking at a medical grade UV light the cars could pass through between unload and load to sterilize them contact free. The same could be done on Justice League. Thoughts?
