Mick Doohan Motocoaster construction discussion

I remember someone else on here (can't remember who sorry) suggested 'Big 6 Thrill Fix' - I thought that was brilliant! -
I'm glad to hear that the 'shed' is going to be more like a shaded area. Hopefully this means there is actually more money for proper attractions. I think the cannon bowls would be probably be less than $2 million each. From memory I think the Behemoth Bowl was only around the $1 mill mark and they haven't even had to build a new tower or pool for the new bowls. Will be interesting to see what happens anyway
-
I'm just wondering if $5 million would cover 2 bowl slides and the function shed? Seems like quite a lot of money to me and in waterpark terms should get quite a lot. Although I honestly have no idea how much the function building would cost them
-
I found a recent press release on the Macquarie Leisure website which mentioned how WhiteWater World has been performing well ahead of expectations. They then said this: "To satisfy this demand a further A$5 million expansion to increase park capacity is underway and will provide a unique corporate and group entertainment venue catering for up to 1,000 people." So based on this does anyone think there is going to be more than just the function shed and bowl slides? I have a feeling there may be more to this function shed than meets the eye. An old contact of mine mentioned something a long time ago about a plan for a function area in the middle of a lazy river. Could this be next? Any thoughts?

Thanks so much for that great detailed photo update Saberon... I've been hanging out for it. The temple of Huey is certainly going to be one busy slide structure especially considering it's only small to begin with. I still can't get over their colour choice for the Screamin' Right Handers slide. That kind of grey/blue just doesn't go well with the rest of the complex and the green support poles. It also looks like something went wrong during the manafacturing process with each piece a slightly differnent shade of blue and those brown stains on the joins

The main pic they've used is clearly not Dreamworld's Motocoaster even though the caption says it is. Usual story. It actaully looks better than the one we're getting though... I think I'd prefer it... certainly in terms of track and train design aesthetics. I like the fact they pointed out in the article that 'the ride will be the first Dreamworld has built in three years'. Hehe, rub it in -
When I first saw it I assumed the signage was just temporary until the building is finished. It's just a 2D vinyl (or whatever) covering. You can even see wrinkles in the fabric where it hasn't been stuck on well. I don't mind the actual graphic design at all, it almost has a western look about it, but it certainly doesn't look like a finished product?! But then again this building has only ever been used for temporary attractions, which is what this might be. That would explain them not forking out big cash for a proper facade. I do think the Dodgems cars will be a good move - as much as I personally hate seeing them in a theme park... for some reason they are always a crowd favourite. And as we've always said Movie World could do with a few more generic flat rides

Are you serious??? A tyre launch? What happened to the LIMS/magnets/hydraulics/whatever? How cheap can Dreamworld get! What next? And as Gazza mentioned there will be so much friction! Most new products these days are designed to minimise this sort of friction due to the wearing out of parts and ongoing maintenance etc. I wouldn't think the tyres would be able to get the train up to an acceptable speed either. Oh well I will say it's interesting although I think we need to face the facts that this is going to be a rather ugly coaster - even when the 'theming' is finished -
Thanks for the pics lisalila. Nice to see some progress on the bowls. I also noticed the shed in the background which everyone has been talking about. Let's hope they give it some nice theming or finishing touches so it doesn't stand out too badly
-
They obviously don't have any plans for a major expansion of WWW if this is the case. Otherwise they'd reserve every last scrap of land around that area. The biggest problem with WWW is its small size so I just find it really strange that they are building a giant shed on the only area left for potential expansion. Surely there is somewhere else within Dreamworld where they could have built this
-
How can they waste the precious little land they have left for waterpark expansion with a giant function shed? I hope it's at least going to be keeping in with the theme
-
Ok anyone got any updates? We seemed to have a flood of photos going on for a while there and now not much is happening. The thing must be getting somewhere close to completion if they want it open by September. I need a waterslide fix. Any photos would be much appreciated

Yeah I'd love to see some more slide pics. I assume they will be wanting to open them in September aswell so no doubt there has been some progress. I'm a bit worried to hear they are building a big shed behind the Temple of Huey. What could that be? Maybe it is that function area that has been talked about. I really hope they don't go wasting valuable waterpark land though -
Thanks for the pics. I gotta say I'm confused about this construction now. I can't really get my head around the layout. I just noticed in one of the pics you can see that they are building what appears to be new footers within the Cyclone track ie. next to Temple of Huey. Does this mean they are actually going to use the current Huey tower for one of the slides? We've all spoken about that remaining gap on the Huey tower but I didn't think they'd use it for this particular attraction. I assumed this would have its own tower with the 2 slides coming off either end. As a 'dueling cannon bowl ride' I figured both slides would start and finish at the same point. Any other thoughts? By the way I've found what I think is the only other park in the world to have one of these dueling bowl installations - http://www.deepriverwaterpark.com

Someone needs to inform Mr Gregg that there is more to Australian culture than just sport. Seriously, if every attraction Dreamworld builds now is going to be sports related I think I will vomit. I'd like to see them think outside the square next time... regardless of how much of a sports fanatic Stephen Gregg is -

Okay I have a few comments on this. First off I really don't like the colour scheme and it will be hard to tell until we see it in person but I think Atomiq may have missed the mark with this one. I really dislike the mixture of primary colours on the bikes. I would have rather seen maybe a purple or a funky lime green to match the logo. I really don't like the random mixture of red, blue and green. Even just something like red and orange might have been better. I also don't like the track colours and was hoping when we saw the train revealed the track scheme would make more sense. But it doesn't. Any my next complaint is regarding the sports theme. I have heard quite a few times that the CEO Stephen Gregg is obsessed with sports. After they added FlowRider I was expecting them to add another sports related attraction (but hoping they wouldn't). I was then happy to hear they were adding a coaster - but ofcourse it would seem that Stephen has ensured it is still very heavily related to sports. Even going as far as to brand it with that guys name. I would like to see Stephen challenge himself on Dreamworld's next attraction and add something that has nothing to do with sport - if that's possible for him. I'm sure he doesn't have the final say but no doubt is quite involved in the decision making process. And thirdly I will end this on a positive note. Regardless of a few negatives, mostly relating to visuals, I am very happy to see that we are at least getting a new coaster and also nice that WhiteWater World is expanding at the same time. That is a good move from my point of view -

Haha yes WnW Rocks I remember you took those first lot of WWW pics... I think I thanked you at the time? I have just noticed Churros has been providing lots of pics of the motorbike coaster too. Believe me I'm sure we are all grateful to both of you - the more pics the better! -

Churros you have really been coming through with the goods with all these photos! Thank you so much for contributing so many great pics over the last little while. Please keep up the great work. I'm particularly interested in WhiteWater World so am happy to see these updates. Still slightly disappointed about the bowls and the fact that it is essentially another 'over in 2 seconds' slide but nonetheless WWW needs everything it can get at the moment -

Thank you for keeping us updated with these great pics Richard. Thanks to everyone else who has contributed photos recently aswell - the forums really seem to be back alive again! I gotta say so far this would have to be one of the ugliest and strangest looking coasters I have seen. But at the same time it really intrigues me because it is quite different from anything we've seen over here before. Can't wait to see and ride the finished product -
I totally agree with the above statement. It is so sad but so true. The Australian public in general just wants rides and don't seem to give a toss about how they are presented. Hence the reason parks like Luna Park in Sydney can get away with appallingly presented areas like 'Maloney's Corner' and no one seems to notice. Superman Escape and the post fire re-theming of Wild West Falls are also perfect examples Chaos-Maniac... examples which almost make me kind of depressed. As much as I'm a fan of theming though I'm not overly disappointed that DW didn't spend any money on the relocation of the antique cars. I mean it is a pretty basic ride and is totally ancient and wouldn't be considered a drawcard. To be honest I'm surprised they bothered relocating it at all. I'm glad they did as I don't think the park can afford to lose any more rides but considering their recent track record it still surprises me

White Water World new 2007 Expansion
GoGoBoy replied to mattcrombie's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Richard are you convinced it is only 2 bowls the park is adding? Afterall, mattcrombie did say they may be installing 3 new slides. So I am hoping the 3rd slide, if it does end up happening, will be the major point of difference. I was actually getting confused re cannon bowls versus pro bowls. I was thinking you guys were talking about the pro bowls which I think look dangerous. Cannon bowls would be fine as they use rafts -

GoGoBoy replied to mattcrombie's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I totally agree. I would be surprised if they were adding 1 person cannon bowls as those things look like a serious liability. I mean I just can't see Dreamworld wanting to add a ride where there's a chance you come out backwards and drop onto your head into a concrete pool. I personally hope that if they are adding bowls they will also be adding something else... as previously suggested like a couple of pipelines or dark mammoths -
White Water World new 2007 Expansion
GoGoBoy replied to mattcrombie's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Wow this is brilliant news! Thanks so much WnW Rocks for the info and pics! Great job. I'm very happy to see it confirmed that WhiteWater World is expanding already, as most of us thought was necessary. I'm also happy to see they are sticking with their trademark bright colours. I am personally hoping for some dark mammoth slides or something else with a bit of a longer ride time compared to their current attractions. However I can see your point about the bowls Gazza. Considering they already have a Behemoth Bowl I'm not quite sure why they'd need to add more bowls - unless they were adding an entire new complex with a mix of slides - bowls, mammoths, pipelines etc. Either way it is great to see some new slides going into the park... whatever they end up being. Mattcrombie - thanks for being the first to confirm WWW was actually getting new slides this year. Have you been able to dig up any more info about what we can actually expect? And Richard I'd be interested to hear your thoughts now considering you were pretty determined that the park would not be expanding this year -

Richard - a big thanks to you for creating and maintaining such a great site that has allowed us all to share our common interest. The fact that we are all now so in touch with what's going on in the Aussie theme park industry is fantastic. If I could actually add up the amount of time I've spent on these forums over the last 4 years since I joined it'd be just plain scary. Happy birthday R-C and keep up the great work! -
I have to say I really don't mind the idea of the flumes not coming back as long as they are replaced with something appropriate. While they may have had some positives I do think they weren't quite up to scratch in some ways, particularly their slow speeds. Considering how large WnW is now I think it's a good idea to consolidate and improve on what they already have rather than necessarily expand. I think they have gotten to the point where they can definitely afford to replace old attractions rather than just build additional ones. I think a mix of consolidation and expansion will be good for them. I certainly wouldn't say the same thing about Dreamworld (they should only be expanding). As I said earlier if the flumes are replaced with something similar albeit a more contemporary ProSlide version I think that would be very cool. I can definitely see a selection of funky ProSlide Atomic Coasters with the multiple water curtains like these http://www.proslide.com/sub.php?mainRideID=5&rideID=12 working well in that area. And maybe mix it up with a bowl slide and one or 2 other options as we have seen happening in waterparks recently
