1. Either that or someone ate "before" their ride. It happens.
2. I agree with you Zamperla, but poor Kylie here is only talking about "actual" speed wise. And no, the engine hasn't been replaced recently nor has any significant wear or tear happening recently either, so uhhh... negatory with this one sarge.
3. Nice comeback Gaz. Seriously though toothy, thanks to the ride's design, even if it went all the way round (which it can't do anyway due to gravity and engine torque) you'd be either a) in a world of pain or telling us a load of nuts, basically.
4. Hey, atleast Channel ten aren't showing Australian Idol repeats instead.
5. After 30 seconds worth of Googling, I found this from the site shown here. "...Fun Parks Ton O Fun is a family fun park with paddleboats, mini golf, a jumping castle, a mini train, dodgems on water, odyssey thrill machines, go karts, two large waterslides, quad bikes, volleyball, a merry-go-round, pedal cars, a bistro and kiosk and picnic-barbecue areas. It is open from 10.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. on weekends, public holidays and every day of the school holidays but closed throughout the winter, tel: (02) 6554 3090. Head north from Tuncurry along The Lakes Way for 11 km. To the right, opposite the turnoff to Failford, is Ton O Fun Rd. Another 9 km north along The Lakes Way (which becomes Tuncurry Rd) at Rainbow Flat is the Big Buzz Fun Park . It features three waterslides, a toddler's slide, a toboggan run, mini grass trikes, super grass trikes, pony rides, mono boards, peddlecarts, skatebikes, pony rides, volleyball, trampolines, swings, a swimming pool, a kiosk, shaded picnic areas and free gas barbecues. It is open from 10.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. weekends, public holidays and every day in the school holidays, tel: (02) 6553 6000..."
6. Richard, we're obviously talking about Dreamworld expanding over the next decade so I'd be referencing to the article that was posted not only on this website but mine about "Dreamworld expanding over the next decade."
7. Whoa, twisting words again buddy, please read the whole post and don't mis-quote me, afterall, "I am all knowing". (cough.) When I was referring to defining a major attraction you were referring to the fact that nothing major i.e. anything "big" would be coming our way without huge ticket prices, neglecting the fact that there is some extra budget being flown in our way (metaphorically that is kids, try not to get confused.) I think I'd be happy with any "major attraction/dr_teeth attraction/thrill ride". Provided it kicks up some serious airtime, what could be less blissful. And just for the record, it's not SK, it's Slick to you buddy.
8. It's funny how it went from six, to nine, to thirteen then down to twelve, then up to twenty.... And then you're vomitting, then I hear your passing out, then apparently after you passed out catch another twelve rides.... Whoa, Bold and The Beautiful out at a theme park, aye.
9. Dr_teeth, don't twist my words buddy. How can you say or define a major attraction anyway? And even if you knew, you haven't read the article properly anyway. Dreamworld's plan, ontop of other things, to almost double the park's size within the next decade. This will exclude outside projects i.e. CityWalk, Resorts, Monorails etc. And yes, over the next ten years Dreamworld DOES plan to add in several major attraction, because a part of that article did clearly say that "over 270 million dollars will be dedicated to the general upgrade" meaning "a large portion of these funds will be directly spent on new attractions and expansion." I mean, do you honestly expect the park's ticket prices to stay the same for the next ten years anyway? Just look at Disney's prices for example, a bit steep but still within most customer's price range. Oh, and one other thing before you start entering the "pointless fact zone" dr_teeth, Brisbane and the Gold Coast repsectively currently have the largest expected growth of any city in Australia. If you have read other threads about the exact same thing, (try "search") you will note that by the time the park has finished fully expanding, the actual net worth will be the equivalent to any Disney style park of the same size, meaning Queensland will be one of the first destinations in Australia that will actually support large scale parks. Next.
10. I hint nothing. Guys seriously, read what you say before posting. Dr_Teeh you're going on about how they don't have money, but the park will be almost doubling in size in the next decade, I mean, where did you think a part of the 270 million will be going to mate? World's largest monorail system? Remember that a good park makes money from all different aspects of the market. Just because you guys want six new roller-coasters doesn't mean it's actually a smart idea. In time, sure, but you need an even mix in terms of catering to each market to ensure you return a profit and most importantly get the guests back. And this is exactly why we don't get three TTD clones in Australia, like I've said earlier. If we had three record breaking coasters of the same type in the one park, the biggest one would make the other two look like crap, making a worthless investment. Good work. Oh, stop me if I'm wrong, but I think they're not going to build anything around Big Brother yet purely because Big Brother's there, although I could be wrong, but it doesn't usually happen, right lads.
11. The worse experience I've probably had is dropping as the pod runs up the tower. Not only can't you tell when you're going to fall, but it's loud, it's shaking, and it certainly frigtened me, for once.
12. And the facts keep being drawn from thin air.... Like I said earlier, Southern Star Endemol would've obviously payed Dreamworld to use their land and other such on-site facilities in their contract that both parties signed, and like I said, inside that contract would've had some sort of agreement saying "our logo, in whatever creative form possible must be on each introduction promo for BB." That'd be the same as "we want our logo ontop of the house" etc. etc.
13. Buddy, someone doesn't need to say something directly for it to have an underlying message. When you say "it didn't feel that fast", you are implicating that you agree with what it said, so don't give me crap about it buddy. And yes, I know where you're talking about, and yes I still agree with what I said earlier. The only way something like that would've happened would be if one of the transformers in the station weren't earthing properly and let discharge into the building's structure, but that would mean that there would've been alot more fried people than just one kid, so I'd say he probably pricked his finger against something in the dark.
14. Rest assured, Dreamworld's next thrill ride will deliver hopefully a new touch of class in the industry.
15. Ok, let's look at this from someone with first hand knowledge. Let's look at scenario one. If a ride has an e-brake, basically it's a)get the passengers on the pod safe b)alert radio to get some people (sups, engineers, whatever) to reset the ride c)intercom the waiting guests about the delays Scenario two would be the one that's getting some people confused. Let's say a tire fragment shatters, a bird hits the pod (it happens pretty regularly) or there's some bad weater overhead, depending on the severity the ops either tell people that if it's going to be a normal delay they can choose to stay in line, but typically if it's weather related, the ride is cleared, and the ops head downstairs to chain up the skull and tell boarding guests that the ride isn't operating.
16. Are you inferring that you know that first hand or that you just presume? Having done some promotional work earlier on in the year with the park, I was lucky enough to hop on for a few rides by myself, which means with less than a twelth of the average passenger weight onboard the pod, the Tower shot me up the tower at just under normal pace, and I have to say, tapping the magnets is a huge difference to what we get currently. Seriously, the force, and just that small heigh difference gives a whole new feeling to really how much you're soaring over the Gold Coast.
17. Huh? Teen Confidence? I think before worrying about what impact it's going to have on maybe building one more kiddy coaster, you should research a little more. The Citywalk is basically way far out from any type of current civilisation (in a joking/non-joking way, (Dreamworld joke)) and with the land that's already available, provided we got rid of the BB studios would be tremendous, almost two and a half times the size of what we currently have. I'd be surprised if Dreamworld will manage to double their size in the next decade, let alone use up all the space.
18. Yes it was, just to the priveleged. And the actual reason behind The Claw animation, exactly like what theme park master said was to promote Dreamworld's latest attraction. And something like that would probably be in their contract anyway, seeming some sort of animation, such as the Tower of Terror animation (which was a lot better) was in last year's one and the one before that. And for the record, it's six seasons, not seven. I would've thought that if we've already been over this in another thread we would've taken it onboard. Silly me.
19. The only weird feelings I've ever experienced on the Tower was the gentle shaking as the pod hit the tower. Mmm... calming. Apart from some minor problems last year, for basically the entire time this year both sides have been running perfectally. Actually this year the western lift had some problems, but lets not delve into that. Just for the record, the Tower of Terror is the only ride made by Intamin's main department, the other three, that is the River Rapid seating, The Claw and The Giant Drop were all from Intamin's rides divion known as "Ride Trade."
20. Hey I know! How about "Police Academy: at night!" Although I must say Scooby Doo would definitely be a choice ride in the dark.
21. I think he was referring to whether or not it was spinning faster of it was just in his head. Yeah, definitely in his head.
22. Not true. The entire ride, along with Stingray etc., used to be manually operated (in terms of speed etc.) by the ride-op but Dreamworld, in an attempt to reduce premium costs, has retrofitted most of their older rides with an automatic computer system, that constantly gives a cosistent speed. So uhh... unless you were riding the ride say six years ago, even then there wouldn't have been much difference.
23. Although "Luna Park Walt Disney World" would be just such a good name for the park. In all honesty I think they could do the place up a little more than it currently is at the moment, but it is afterall just a tacky little amusement park. But hey, they can clean it up a little and make it look respectable of course.
24. 235 k/ph? Were you planning on going to the moon or something? There is literally no way you could've gone 235 k/ph "safely" without being reduced to a human putty after the amount of g-force you would've experienced. Look at it this way, you'd be hitting around 11 G's when you hit that ramp if you were doing 230 or more. That's 77 tonnes of steel hitting the ramp and the tower, well beyond the structural limits of the Dreamworld Tower. And the wire fence? There's a steel grid to stop people from falling in, and it'd be pretty stupid to have a grid like that electrified in public, without signage, and in such a thoroughfare. I touched it this morning and I didn't die, unless i'm dreaming this post.
25. It's because its a crap ride. The ride has been passed over from like three or four different parks, and virtually no one in the community likes it, so uhh... there's your reason why Flashback is generally never open. It just sits there now as an excuse to say "SFMM now has 16 coasters!"
