  1. If you plan to make a DC themed area then Iron Man cant be a part of it.
  2. Is it just me, or is this discussion going around in circles?
  3. Haha this is sweet. I think the first few mightn't have worked though because they didn't show up in my pending list, but everything after that did work.
  4. Ok, having a play around things are working well. The only improvements I could suggest are as follows: Emails: Its says you get an email letting you know your entry has been accepted, does this mean if a user went to a previously uncovered park and took lots of photos they could potentially receive 20 or so emails? Info Messages: After uploading a file you get a message that says "Thank you. Your photo has been successfully submitted to our queue. You will receive an email once it has been approved." However after doing your first photo the message loses a lot of its impact since it is stuck there (and hence doesnt indicate a change) , unless you are paying attention and see the screen flicker as the page refreshes, or notice the "Done" down in the bottom corner of your browser it wont really help. If it was a popup message users had to close it could be more useful.
  5. "Sorry, we could not find a member using those login details" I am indeed in the member list, and I tried resetting my password, and then using those details, but still no sucess. However, one thing I did notice was that in the member list my name didn't have 'member' written under it like the others, so Im guessing the problems might be something to do with the fact my account has those changes you made to it to allow me to access the content system. Edit: Working, Time to give this system a test, if its as good as the old uploading system it should be great.
  6. Nope, still no sucess trying both those things, even in different browsers. The main page does refresh but no welcome screen or whatever. I also tried using the login link at the top of the page, but that still give a 404 error.
  7. When I try to login, nothing happens, the login box just gets hidden, but nothing changes to say that it recognises me as a user, or that my password or whatever is incorrect.
  8. ^Yeah true, an inversion is an inversion, they don't necessarily make a ride better or worse by their presence, its just another way of providing the thrills. First and foremost, the ride needs to be good, and if you have done that it really doesn't matter what elements you used to get there. To some up, we don't NEED inversions (but they are cool) what you do NEED is a high quality ride. It seems some people want rides that are different for the sake of it rather than whatever would be better.
  9. There is no feasible way the Gold coast could become 7 times bigger than what it is now in the space of 12 years.
  10. ^Stat wise they are pretty similar so I cant see the SFNE version being significantly more expedition. In any case, Expedition Ge fore would also be another better option to clone, the park it is at is only about DW sized anyway, so It couldn't be that unaffordable. B&M hypers are always an option, at the end of the day B&M cant just limit their market to the richest and most highly attended parks, they have shown time and time again they can adapt to various needs. Goliath at La Ronde ( http://www.rcdb.com/m/ig3385.htm?picture=24 ) for example was about $21 million AUD and it is a pretty solid ride. A ride the scale of Hollywood dream ( http://www.rcdb.com/m/ig3621.htm?picture=30 ) would be cheaper again (just the ride system...lets forget the fact it is in Japan and at a Universal park and built in a hard spot, who knows what ridiculous amount was actually whizzed up on this) and again this ride has been VERY well recieved.
  11. The ride of steel you want is this one : http://www.rcdb.com/m/id628.htm
  12. Nah, no restraints, it never can get steep enough, and really its the back and forth movement which is the fun part. It seemed to have a slow moving line which is nothing like what Gisnep normally does with their operations, it comes down to them not loading the 8 person pods to capacity, it was pretty much one group to a pod. On the plus side, everybody goes for the swinging pods so the normal ones are just a walk on. Personally, I couldn't care less about competing with SW, I could think of better rides to throw down millions on than the sun wheel...Its an ok ride, but I'd rather other stuff.
  13. Ah Ill wait till the other features are up and running, it will probably be all good by then. Its mostly in the About section, legal info links back to credits, contributors don't show up, and when you click on About parkz under the blue About Parkz header it makes a scroll bar appear Well, maybe not necessarily specifically to Australia, but from this page: http://www.parkz.com.au/parks/ directly below "search parks and rides" have a link that says "explore parks and rides" which could take you to a page with a list of countries. And from there if you clicked Australia it would take you here: http://www.parkz.com.au/parks/AU/ (on another note, I think that current format looks a bit messy) I think it is important to have something like this because visitors planning trips here (or vice versa) mightn't even know what they are searching for, so access to a page which has a nice list parks and the cities they are in would clearly be a preferred option. Well, its ultimately your call, but with Youtube, personally I rarely give out a rating other than 1 or 5, if its a middle ground video I don't really rate it, and at the end of the day I never give much thought to what rating I give stuff anyway. Theme park rides are a bit different, I mean go to any park site and the boards will be full of polls between rides. and of course on top of that there is stuff like the Mitch Hawker poll....we are a judgemental bunch, and in our own minds we rank stuff pretty clearly. If I were to go and rate the WWW slides for example, Green Room would get 9/10 (4.5), Rip would get 8/10 (4) and BRO would get 7/10 (3.5) though they way it is now I would have to give them all a 4/5 which isn't a true indication of what I think.... Its basically more flexibility in placing stuff. To sum up, keep it as a 5 star scale (a group of 5 stars is universally understood) but allow stuff to be rated 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5 etc. As you said it would be a percentage result averaged out, so in terms of output it would be the same, just input would be a bit more flexible. When you get bored and feel like adding more features (I don't expect or ask you to do this), user profiles could possibly show that persons top rated rides. Haha I gave way too much thought to this. Cool, you have the right idea there. I envision something where all photos are shown as tiny thumbnails (like at the bottom of the RC galleries), and as you select and deselect criteria the photos would appear and disappear and arrange themselves in a live manner.
  14. What is wrong with that? heaps of rides have cameras where they take your photo (TOT, GD, Cyclone, Bermuda Triangle, Tornado, Mammoth Falls, Superman Escape, Lethal Weapon etc) so who is losing a job? Last time I checked people are needed to run the photo store at the exit where people buy the photos, and surprise surprise that creates jobs. Actually, a number of rides I have ridden (and know of) have cameras pointing towards the faces of riders on-board so after the ride you can buy a DVD of your ride experience, such as the West coaster at Santa Monica Pier, and the Sierra Sidewinder at Knotts Berry Farm. I never saw any broken cameras...its just a small lens that is protected. And anyway you would be foolish to try and break it since the camera would record you doing the act.
  15. Isn't three major batman related rides sort of overkill? Out of all the non coaster attractions, Batman themed rides would represent one third of everything on offer. Surely we can be a bit more creative? After all, there is more to the world of movies than just Batman, and It is important to appeal to lots of visitors, not just fans of one movie franchise. Sonic is right in this case, a Multi Motion dark ride like at Disney would cost Millions...easily as much as a B&M, it would be a poor decision to launch two rides this major within only a few months of each other, I would be opening them 2 or 3 years apart at the least.
  16. Looking good, but after all this is a Beta test so time for feedback, Im using Firefox 2.0.0.11 so naturally it only relates to that: Front page: Looking good, only problem at the moment is the black disclaimer box appears twice, other than that it would be better if all the boxes lined up a bit more. Articles: Again, its working well here, only problem I found was my solitary article was listed as being written by you, and was in news rather than editorials (it's a review after all) Theme parks: The guts of the site, kudos for such an ambitious system, some links are broken, so I dont know wether this is intentional or not given it's not quite finished, clicking to see more photos of the ride at random leads you to a page that has the words "theme parks in" and nothing else. The photo galleries themselves are good, though it would be nice to see a small list of the tags (youtube style) each photo has below each photo (edit, i can see what you have done now, disregard), this could clear things up a bit, and some photos are still missing tags and hence when you narrow selections in the side bar they sometimes wont show when they should (eg in the reptar gallery, clicking construction shots should bring up the shots of reptar under construction, but you can still only see those specific shots by selecting Nick central construction shots) One other consequence was that Battle of the movie parks gallery is still floating around, so when WBMW was the park at random, a few of the shots were from USH, which was pretty amusing, I imagine these shots will find homes once international parks get their galleries. And just on that side bar, it isn't rendering correctly and gets pushed down the page below the last photo. An idea on how to improve the selection narrowing system could be a toggle on and off type thing (radio buttons or check boxes or whatever beside the things you want to see) Also, there is no link to bring you back to the page showing all photos (yeah, you can click the back button) On the theme parks landing page that search is working well, but there needs to be some sort of direct linkage to lists like "all parks in australia" or "all coasters in australia" (with the former, that page exists, but the only way to get to it is by backtracking on the links at the top of the page. I saw the star rating thing which looks nice, my only request is that we can rate by half stars, so in effect it is the same as rating out of 10. I can forsee a problem where a lot of rides will just get 4 stars, since 5 stars is too generous for a lot of rides, and 3 stars is too harsh. Videos is obviously not available yet. As for the about section, I love the FAQ, pretty much puts the ball back in the court of the park and asserts our independence, good on you. Friends, what can I say, you need more though ozcoaster is a good friend to have. Thats all I can think of for now, when the uploading system comes online I might spend a few hours on that.

    Which one?

I think you are confused. Both the Wii and the PS3 have accelerometers inside the controllers, so in this respect both controllers could do the same things in terms of these functions (though swinging a PS3 controller like a tennis racquet would be a bit awkward) But the Wii in addition has a 1 megapixel CCD on the end of the controller, and the sensor bar is a group of 8 LEDs which are a fixed distance apart. This is how the Wii accomplishes the pointer functions (eg in shooting games, in menus etc) The CCD sees the 8 LEDs and from the way they appear to the CCD the Wii can work out how far away it is and where it is pointing. The PS3 would have never used a system like this since there would have been simply no need (even in the prototypes) The Wii for the most part can do without the sensor bar too....Technically Wii sports can be played in its entirety without the sensor bar plugged in. When you say 'sensors' what a you referring to, sensors can come in many forms (optical, pressure, temperature, acceleration, shock, IR ect) so you need to be more specific

    Which one?

Sensor, Accelerometer. Tomato, Tomata. It doesn't really matter what name you use they still have the same effect - allowing users to use motion as an input method, and this has always been the case with the PS3. Dunno what you are saying anyway, the PS3 would have always used accelerometers.....
  19. Just a question, will subscribers get an ad free version? After all, the formatting of an ad free version would need to be tested too.
  20. Why did you post them on a public forum? Obviously you would have some hope that these ideas would be implemented, so why does the means matter to you if you never intended to gain financially?

    Which one?

It really depends on what you consider a 'good' game. Your buying decisions should pretty much be based around what games are out for it, and the ones that interest you. I don't really buy into the whole "PS3 is the best and will win because its the most powerful...if this were the case then the Xbox and GC should have outsold PS2 since they were both more powerful. To answer your question, Its been a year since it was launched, and 3 'good' games (I actually think there are more good games than that, but each to their own) isn't a bad run....I mean it was 1.5 years after launch that X360 got Halo 3, and 6 months for Gears of War. People don't just buy the premium games anyway.... I sort of got a Wii on the prospects I could see it having, eventually games will be made that really make excellent use of its unique features, and in the mean time there are still a few great games out for it, it really depends what you are in to. One other thing that might sound small, but the web browser on the Wii is actually a great little feature you will end up using, simple stuff like being able to watch youtube on the couch is nice. Its not only graphics, processing power plays a role in the need to develop new models every few years, there is the need for consoles to accept higher capacity storage media, and the need to interface with other technology (Eg ability to accept BR-D, wifi connectivity, compatible with USB devices etc)
  22. No because Stealth isn't particularly highly regarded ride anyway (And people consider Superman better anyway). It would be such a waste of money to build such a similar ride to Superman with only a different layout. What does stealth have? a launch, tophat and an airtime hill;. funny because that sounds exactly the same as what superman has at the start. The forces would still be the same so it would really bring nothing to the table, and would just dilute Supermans image...why compete with yourself in that respect? MWs barrier is still the lingering fact It has been behind in thrill rides for much of it's life, remember prior to December 2005 MW had one thrill ride whilst DW had 5 at this time, and even today MW still has a bit of catch up to do in this department. Today its 6 Vs 4 (hey if they count Motocoaster I'm counting scooby) and if in a couple of years or whatever it was evened up then i think people would just gravitate towards MW because of the higher quality of the overall ride experiences. Theming is MWs point of difference, and really DW is only ahead in attendance by a hair, so I think there are some people out there that enjoy the 'magic' of the MW experience. For me, theming is very important and can put a ride well ahead of what it would be in a non themed state. Certainly with some rides theming is more critical though....WWF would be nothing without theming.
  23. Thing with that is you would be dealing with the studios and not the park. Personally a studio tour would hold little interest for me, after all people on this site are members because of a unified interested in theme parks, not a unified interest in film production. Essentially its just going be wandering around big sheds, you wouldn't have any of the other things in the tour like Riddlers Lair or the special effects stages to make things interesting.
  24. It 'sometimes' happens because it really relies upon the whims of the admins to combine your posts. As for the costings of rides, well DW's prices are here, and I would expect a similar level of cost at MW or whatever given they are competing with each other: http://www.dreamworld.com.au/content/speci...=EventsRidesEnt So if we got 50 people (thats normally the minimum) the ride costs alone would take up $52 PP if you went for a big ride......the savings come when you think about the fact the large capacity of the ride is spread across 50 people. People seem pretty fixed on Superman at MW, and if that cost a similar amount then you would pay roughly $3.10 per ride (With 16 rides) Still $52 out of the event fee is a bit expensive for some, It's something you'd need to work at...1/2 hour session maybe? I would still go just for the social aspect and the meet and greet even if ERT wasn't possible. Now as for other suggestions for activities, in October Richo said it would be about 6 months off....well that would place it in April which could coincide with new ride construction, so if you could sort out the safety aspect a site tour could be interesting.
