Favourite Ride

  1. Well, give most of the rides a good makeover, that'd put the park up several notches to me. No, I don't mean replace some of the wood on Bush Beast with some aweful hard pine in a few spots. Complete retracking, new PTC's... the works. I do agree that the theming is 'top notch' for what the park is. Obviously it isn't in the league of Disney, Universal, or even Warner Bros., but it certainly matches and beats most Paramount, Six Flags parks, as well as Dreamworld and Sea World here. They have the land. They have the money. But you have to stop and think... from a non-thrill seeker perspective. Do they need new rides? Sadly, the answer is no. They seem to be targeting families with their endless stream of shows. And hey, this works... from all reports, attendance over Summer was overwhelming. However, there is no denying that they'd get a lot more interstate appeal with the addition of new rides. They seem to not care about interstate market anymore (last ad I saw on TV up here was around 1999), maybe to keep out of the way of the Gold Coast parks. A thrill ride to take the candle away from Dreamworld... even just for a short time, would push a lot of Queenslanders down there, particularly in the September holiday period. But let's look at it from where they're sitting right now. They're not adding much, a show here and there, some maintenance to keep the place looking respectable. And yet they're easily up there attendance-wise with Dreamworld or Sea World.
  2. I've been to Euro Disney. It wasn't bad but it's aimed at a very young crowd. Space mountain was awesome. 3 loops all indoors with an awesome light show. You start the ride by being shot out of this hugh cannon. The Indiana coaster was cool as well. all backwards with a largish loop. The mine train was also pretty good.
  3. Well let's see Six Flaggs Magic Mountain Knotts Berry Farm Disneyland California Adventure ( DCA) Walt Disney World all four parks within ( Florida) Islands Of Adventure ( Florida) Great America ( California) Six Flaggs Marine World ( California) Universal Studio's ( California) Universal Studio's ( Osaka) Coney Island ( New York) Santa Cruz Amusement Pier ( California) Tokyo Disney Land Tokyo Disney Sea's ExpoLand ( Osaka) Lego Land ( California) My Favorites are Island's Of Adventure...awesome Spiderman ride. Disneyland STILL the most magical of them all.
  4. Total Thrills has officially launched finally. Nothing terribly grand... just the beta logo has been since removed, and a redesigned front page that works better than the old one has been put in place. There is also a new news system that displays the latest news, and archives the old ones (all manual at this stage). I've put off the Wonderland Sydney gallery (sorry to those waiting eagerly for it!), until I've got enough pictures to make it worthwhile (I may put up what I've got some time). A bit strange (though this is the direction I eventually want to go), but by mid-March we'll have Knott's Berry Farm and Disney's California Adventure galleries up, taken with my new Digital Camera. Maybe even a video or two. I will definitely have videos I'm looking into integrating the Forums more with the site, so it doesn't feel so 'out-of-place'. I'm also looking at investing in new forum software, that'll do the job much better than what I've got here. Don't worry - if I do, all your old posts etc. will be saved . -Richard
  5. dude ive been to one of the top parks in the world Knotts Berry Farm and the longest queue I had was 15min for ghostrider (park about same size as Dreamworld), trust me Dreamworld and Movieworld can afford to have big coasters they attendance is around the same as most overseas parks "with the exception of Disney" Rich was right scobby doo has a queue every day today after training for my new postion ? I had to wait 20 min to ride scobby. And every year as "JOZ" will tell you the attendance at our parks is rising I found out tonight at the movieworld awards that because of the Bali Bombings most Aussie and Kiwis who were going that way for xmas are now coming to the Gold Coast and we have been told all the hotels are really full over the next few weeks from boxing day.
  6. I was at work the other day when I was talking to a couple in there 20s from Tokyo anyway I was telling them that I wanted to go to Tokyo to visit Disney and Disney sea. Anyway they told me that Movieworld was alot better and I asked them why and they said because the rides are fun and the staff interact and make your visit fun. Also the guy told me Fuji-Q Highlands "home of Dodonpa" was really worth a visit thou. anyway the above a just a opinon of guests , I will still visit Disney Sea at one point in my life but intresting anyway.
  7. The story with the chipping paint. A majority of the theming is merely polystyrene with a hard fibreglass coating. They then add the details, such as the roughness for the stone effect, similar method to concrete rendering and paint it. Media Day (15 July I believe), they opened the ride to the public late in the day, just to give it a real dress rehearsal (before that, it had only taken some staff, and media) before the opening. The ride's supervisor, who's name slips me at the moment, said to the few queueing, jokingly, having people give the wall a bit of a look over, "Try all you want; the walls are un-pickable". I have never seen so many people dash towards the closest wall and then frantically try and rip it to shreds. Needless to say, when I had a look over it later that day, it was obvious that his claim that they weren't unpickable was obviously false. If it were truely Disney quality, then it wouldn't have been possible to chip in the first place. And if it were, it would be fixed by the next operating day. However, you must keep in mind that Disney have a much larger budget to begin with, and I'd imagine that their maintenance team is more than likely double what Movie World's would be if it were the same size. You really hit the nail right on the head there. They need to add some good coasters, or just high capacity rides in general. The hypercoaster is almost a given, and with the way they are heading, if this isn't one of the next few investments, then I'll go ahead and say that they missed out on the most blatantly obvious complimenting additions. I deliberately tried to stick away from ride additions in my original post, because straight up, the park need A LOT more than a new coaster or two to really improve.
