  1. Giant drop takes aproximately 2 seconds to slow from full speed to a safe return to station speed. Nb about Tower of terror fail safe brake system. Behind the tower of terror station there is a segment which contains large perminent magnets. These are used when the ride loses sync with itself and the LSM is unable to stop the train. Once the train passes through the station it passes over the perminent magnets which quickly but very smoothly stop the car which is made from steel. The ride operator then manually releases the restraints and the passengers procede along a short walkway running parallel to the track and walk about 10 - 15 metres back to the station. As the magnets cannot be disabled, the train is hooked to a winch which slowly drags the train off the magnetic section (takes about 4 minutes) and returns it to the station and the load unload friction brakes are engaged again and LSM is reset.
  2. Talked to a staff member who was a little tight lipped, but was nice while waiting for queue on wipeout. Said it was a motorcycle rollercoaster, that its intended to be a thrill ride and that they are aiming for a septemberish opening. (btw they are aware of chat on the internet saying that info was alreay on the net hehe) Saw the track layout from giant drop, unable to take a photo unfortunately. It might look like a lowset rollercoaster but i don't think its that short seemed to have many many turns. The foundation work i'd say is over 60% done. I'm excited about it If i can sort my smartphone issues i should be able to post some photos from yesterday.
  3. That would need to be investigated by the police. I am not sure that it is appropriate for an employer to drug test employees unless it is part of their contract of employment before they are hired.
  4. i think it is just a lack of money. Hard times for the park make it very hard to invest in capital
  5. Went to dreamworld today, longest queue was for wipeout because of its minimum required load of 20people. had to wait about 10 minutes for enough to come ride. Everything else was pretty much walk on. Twice in the afternoon they launched TOT twice per load which was nice of them. It takes about a minute to reset and recharge. Also got filmed on cyclone for the shack on channel 9 which was cool.
  6. "Then why tell us to It seems stupid that you are free to think the place is great, but we aren't free to think it's not so great." Because it becomes overwhelming when there is comment after comment of negativity against everything. Always a downward look on every move. anyway kinda bored of this, if you want to look at everything dreamworld does with cynical eye than fine. go for it.
  7. I am not a FANboy thank you. I have the right to like or dislike whatever I like and not becalled something in my view derogatory. It's not a case I like one park over another. I don't Dremworld and movieworld as far as australian parks go are really good and they both seem to moving along nicely with capital investments. I guess it's always going to be a MW vs DW situation. They both have issues. Like if I were movieworld, would have never purchased a vekoma SLC. Would have rathered B&M SLC, but for some strange reason no one buys B&M in australia. If I were dreamworld I would have spent the around million dollars ish to do a refit and referbish of Thunderbolt in addition to having cyclone it was pretty cool when there were both. I wouldn't have removed the stuntshow from the paddlewheeler. And as far as a scare attraction goes i'd install something more like infinity which requires less operational staff but at a higher initial outlay. I never said that either park is perfect, they are far off that both of them. But they are both doing alright. I like them and i will continue to support them both.
  8. Look i think there is a strong bias on this site because many seem to be employed by WVTP. and for some strange reason instead of focus on what is good with things they focus on whats bad. Dreamworld is the only fullday themepark in australia. The queues aren't that bad (except public holidays). It has a totally different vibe from Movieworld which for that matter only came good with the superman escape. Its condition isn't too bad and it is clean, i seldom ever see trash around the park. Might have a bit of wear and tear but not alot more than movieworld by comparason. It has several record breaking rides. Tower of terror when built was the fastest tallest ride in the world, giant drop still holds the record for tallest freefall ride on earth and is the only ride i find i still get a bit nervous on. The claw is the only gyro swing in the southern hemisphere. The cyclone was cheap to purchase for dreamworld at 3 million plus 2.5 million in installation and themeing. But that doesn't mean that ride when new was 3 million i am sure it was quite expensive. Personally i think it's a much better arrow than corkscrew mainly because the ride time of the corkscrew is very short after the lift hill. Also not as rough as vekoma SLC which though since had maintainence and is much improved still has errorness calculations in the corkscrew type elemement and produces far too much lateral force and bashes your head around unless you brace it against the side padding. Dreamworld has a full range of children's rides and attractions including a decent vekoma suspended family coaster that is well themed and bright coloured. As well as rides focuses on the very young. Also has dodgems!! gotta love dodgems. They are investing in a large scale accellerator which no one seems to be interested in really. I find the excruciating given the amount of coverage and interest there was for the SE... and this new one will be first of its kind. Only intamin motorcycle accellorator and i think it will be great fun. Look yes wildwest falls is better than the log ride. WWF is nearly 20 years newer wasn't built inhouse and was the most expensive investment made by WBMW to day at 16 million. Given that people still love the log ride and still ride it and there is nothing wrong with it. Dreamworld is a well established high attended themepark that has proved its worth over more than 20 years. It has provided us all with a great amount of entertainment and although could use a little TLC in some areas, it is hardly run down and it definitely diserves more credit than it is given. Too many people want to complain about too much. eg batwing spaceshot and themeing. Everybody enjoy the fact that queensland has soo many themeparks and embrace them instead of bag them. Constructive criticism fine.. but slamming and slagging all the time.. not fine!
  9. well no but dreamworld is a large successful part with consistantly high attendance, and IS making a great effort by installing a new rollercoaster, and they are not chump change. It also is the largest and has the most dynamic range of attractions, and to be completely honest from what i see from movieworld and dreamworld they are both in similar condition overall movieworld maybe slightly ahead in condition, but personally i think they are getting slacker to what they used to be. But seriously damage happens, when you have thousands and thousands of visitors a day wear and tear occurs, it's just a part of life. I have noticed some small changes and repairs dreamworld has made, which actually surprised me they were doing such things. Anyway my point. Stop bitching about dreamworld, you could do alot worse than a 250 million dollar park And enjoy the new rollercoaster!! i am so excited about it
  10. I am really getting sick of people always been down on dreamworld.. There is nothing wrong with dreamworld, yes eureka is closed and that sucks, but we are getting a new accellerator, which is great. movieworld.. dreamworld.. movieworld... dreamworld.. the are BOTH great parks. i love them BOTH to death, and i am sick of dreamworld being criticised so much.
  11. i guess it can be interesting to see behind the scenes stuff
  12. to be honest i don't see or expect a new rollercoaster at movieworld for a long while as they probably better off investing a litttle more money in flatrides and maybe family indoor heavily themed ride perhaps an indoor train that tells a story. a large scale rollercoaster i must admit would be a very tight squeeze and probably would be better located south of the park.
  13. few weeks ago i went to surfers with my friend wanting to go there, and looked for ages to try and find it then found it and it was closed. Was pretty annoyed as we had a discount for it and at the time there was no mention of it being closed on the website. Went did infinity again (owned and run by same company) its fun but had done it previously and wanted something new. was it any good?
  14. dreamworld has turned off a few of the effects on the river rapids such as the waterfall and some of the bits where you get sprayed, i think it's because of the drought and water restrictions.
  15. i seriously doubt dreamworld will scrap this ride unless its too costly to maintain, but i am sure they will at least try to do all they can to keep this ride operating, i am sure they have a very good reason why it is SBNO for such a long time.
  16. according to one of the youtube slideshows of the concept it will cost 100billion, which doesn't surprise me if it is 107miles long. I could iimagine this thing turning into a budget monstrocity, if not the whole thing might be a monstrocity. we'll see
  17. Unfortunately i find the water mist spray highly ineffective and doesn't add to the special effects of the ride and really does detract from the overall FX concept of the ride. Instead why don't they consider a atomising compressor based hazer using a glycol or glycerol based fluid instead of mineral oil base. Would be as effective as a standard hazer without the residue.
  18. 3 people were removed from the taping of big brother and possibly banned fron attending any further shows opening for recording/ streaming copyright material. The show had to be stopped twice for about 10 minutes because if it meaning taping ran till about 10:30 not 10pm. Because of these people the producers then made the call that no photography was to be allowed and that mobile phones must be switched off. that was annoying.
  19. seriously think you should pay more attention to the way that scoobydoo operates before you underestimate the complexity of this ride. SDSC doesn't operate as per a standard mack wildmouse. It is a beautiful piece of engineering. Trains load in pairs, unload in pairs, are coupled travelling on the lift and have wait periods to allow for separation at first block segment and the block segement after the lift unload where there is one block then 7 metres reverse drop then a brake segment then a turntable fitted with friction wheels which is another block. next time you ride, view the operation of the trains in particular in load and unload and take note that the train behind does not wait until the block segment ahead is clear because the positioning system can detect that the train is in movement ahead so it is ok to proceed.
  20. please do not underestimate the complexity of an 18 train blcoksystem. It combines automated control of friction wheels, brakes turntable with reversing friction wheels and a lift system capable of managing 4 trains at once. Also its not typical block system as far as it runs in a style that 'pairs' trains together for load unload and lift as well as the 2 block segments that come after the final brake run and before the unload segment. because of the pairing ability the block proceed only unless the block ahead is clear isn't really the case. it is more proceed in sync with safety block segment ahead unless block is stopped. if this wasn't the case the trains would have to wait for the block segment to be cleared and would cause further holdups. from what i can tell there is approximately 30 potentially block segments on scoobydoo and each is not a stop/go system. I wouldn't be surprised if there was an occasional computer crash that causes the system to act irratically or stops the ride, certainly i've seen the ride not in operation more than once for a few hours in day for a reason or another.
  21. couple of reasons i can think of. Block system error where the computer doesn't manage the block system correctly or more likely a slow unload/load time while running all 18 trains will cause a hold up over many trains after the stopped segment and it can turn into a similar situation like having a traffic hold up things take a while to get moving again causing the trains to stop at each block while the train before it clears it own safety block system.
  22. no i mean i was told it was being expanded, and people didn't believe it was being expanded. well until now. not whether that area was suitable, i was told it WILL be expanding as stage 2 development. but anyway I do hope that they eventually put in a large raft ride as well as a lazy river eventually.
  23. see told you guys it was going to be expanding in that area.. but no one believed me
  24. yeah i have noticed they have removed the Hazer/fog machine from the wildmouse section of the scoobydoo spooky coaster. the lasers in there seem to be quite tempremental. It was much better with the haze cause you could only see the lasers and it was very hard to see the track. but now its all very obvious.
  25. kinda looks like a pile driver.. noisey things but at least the ride is starting to get a move on
