  1. Since we are discussing potential future rides for Seaworld in this thread...i'll just copy/paste this here.

I was hoping for something a bit more substantial than an 'interactive splash zone' for the former Seaworld waterpark. An extension of the Castaway Bay themed area would have been great to see, with an addition of a family friendly flat ride. A solid all ages flat ride is something Seaworld is sorely missing.

Something along the lines of a Mack rides Sea Storm, Gerstlauer Polyp, or what about bring back a classic and install a HUSS Pirate Ship. Or perhaps an observation type ride, with a bit of a twist - e.g. the Vekoma Sky Shuttle.

Rhode all the rides, which were all had their effects working. SE had some effects like the drop of pipes with the smoke coming out of them (which I haven't seen happen in a long time), GL had its audio working and JL had all its effects working.

:o The only time I remember seeing the dropping pipes (with smoke/mist effect) working was when I first rode SE back in 2006. Fingers crossed the effect stays operational and maintained.

Not sure why this debate continues. The ride is the same model and has the same stats as The Claw: swing height is ~28m and it has 32 seats. It's 13 years later so naturally the ride design has undergone some evolution which are most evident in the redesigned structure/mechanics and different restraints, but it's fundamentally the same ride.

I think because initially someone (Mark Shaw?) stated that it would be the biggest of its kind in Australia? Technically it might be, by a couple cm or m, due to Intamin redesigning/evolving the ride's structure and seating capacity.

  5. Most likely going to attend FN this year for the first time ever. I'm looking into the VIP Ultimate Terror Tour. Does the UTT ticket include entry into Fright Nights? Or will I have to buy a separate admission ticket for Fright Nights, on top of the UTT. I'm not a Village Theme Parks Premium or Elite Member, so I won't be able to 'redeem' a ticket.

The website does say "Park entry not included in The Ultimate Terror Tour". Does that mean park entry during day time, or park entry to Fright Nights?

wouldn't be hard to retrofit a few speakers on the lift hill, rather than having on board audio systems. A simple IR beam across the base of the lift to trigger the audio playback, and have it timed perfectly to the lift chain speed... Imagine that Laugh booming out over the park?

Love the idea of music up the lift hill on Rivals. Mako at Seaworld Orlando IMO does the lift hill soundtrack really well. It builds great anticipation and excitement, and carries the atmosphere/theme from inside the station up the chain lift

Its funny how Freak Out was getting ignored because everyone was just riding Beast in preference.

Even though both rides perform the same basic movements (a rotating gondola on the end of a swinging pendulum arm), IMO the Freak Out and the Beast deliver very different physical sensations and ride experiences.

I enjoy both equally, for different reasons. When rides are $10-$20 a go, it makes sense for people to spend their money on the bigger, taller, meaner looking one.

There is more to the definition of Hypercoaster than 200 feet tall.

Shuttle coasters are not considered Hypercoasters, and generally also need to focus on speed and airtime to fit that definition, although recently some with inversions have been given the classification.

If you want to get really technical, the word 'Hypercoaster' doesn't exist in the dictionary. Arrow Dynamics made the word up to describe Magnum XL-200. Perhaps there isn't an official definition for the word.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypercoaster The wiki page lists X2 and ToT II as hypercoasters.

  9. They should have just marketed it as Australia's Tallest, Fastest and Longest full/complete circuit rollercoaster. The GP doen't know or care about the term Hypercoaster.

Plus you can also class ToT II as a hypercoaster, because it's over 200 ft (61m) tall. Knowing that, I don't know how VRTPs can get away with stating that Rivals is the "tallest, longest, fastest and only HyperCoaster in the Southern Hemisphere".....because it's not.

  10. Such a funky looking coaster. RMC have an amazing track record with all their coaster creations (pun intended); I expect this to get great reviews as well.

RMC developed this 'single-rail' technology, in an effort to make major thrill rollercoasters affordable. I wonder how much cheaper though? Has there been a price tag announced for this coaster?

    Also, 15.5 inch wide track!! That's 40cm wide.... :o

Haha don't worry, its normal when a new attraction comes in from overseas. Still can't believe we have an XXL here, I remember seeing one in Belgium and couldn't believe how big it was! its pretty stunning in person, even if you aren't riding

^Agreed. The Beast is a stunning feat of engineering - when you see it at full swing @pin142 keep in mind the ride is not bolted to the ground whatsoever, and erects and packs itself up without the need of any external crane. Also it's really fun to stand close to the base of the ride and watch the gondola swing right over your head. It catches a lot of people off-guard if they don't realise what they are walking next too - when suddenly a giant arm swings over their head. Gets some good reactions of awe/scare!

  12. I've also ridden both The Beast (KMG XXL), and the Claw @ DW. I agree with how @Wil_i_am_not describes the two rides. The Beast is all about the atmosphere, height, positive g's and insane speed. Whereas the Claw delivers amazing floater airtime, a greater feeling of inverting/going up-side-down, and a better seating arrangement (outward facing seating). I also feel that the Claw has a more powerful motor/drive, it really hauls you up into the sky, and then yanks you back down to the ground.

Any chance they have an article or transcript? I'm not one with the patience for listening to these sorts of 'live recorded' shows. i want to read at my own pace (which is generally faster than they can speak...) - plus I don't believe in paying for this sort of stuff.

You don't have to pay. If you don't mind listening through the website, at a so-so audio quality, just hit the play button on the page.

I'm incredibly glad they didn't build this - it's so cringy.

I am proud I'm Australian, but all these attractions just sound super cheesy (but it was 1998!)

^I agree! Some of the attraction concepts are incredibly cheesy, and perhaps even disrespectful to Aboriginal culture. It would probably not pass in 2017's society. It's also because the concepts were developed by American ex-imagineers, ex-universal creative back in the early 90's - the cultural appropriation by the designers was lacking.

  14. The Disney Dish Podcast has done a 2 part podcast delving into the history and story of Disneyland Australia. Would highly recommend a listen, it's a fascinating story!

I've listened to this podcast on and off. They have a really good backlog of episodes to choose from. The podcast mainly covers insider knowledge, history and reviews of the Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, and Universal Parks all around the world.

Love seeing these parks thrive. Only issue I can see is that two Victorian parks will have a Tornado Wave if this goes ahead. Maybe it's not too late for Adventure Park to go with a different slide type.

I have a feeling that Adventure Park is strategically installing a Tornado Wave, with very similar colours to the Funfields' Tornado Wave (opening this year) to confuse/bamboozle the GP between the two parks. Adventure Park know that Funfields is opening the best water slide in Victoria this year - so maybe this is a knee-jerk reaction to try and win back some patronage?

  16. Nice find @Patrick Dove! For a state that is notoriously known for it's 'bad/cold weather', Victoria has seen a lot of investment in waterparks/waterslide attractions over the past 10 years. Adventure Park, Funfields and Gumbaya World are all installing new waterslides this year. And no doubt they will continue to invest into waterpark attractions in the future.

It's proof that the weather argument is void. If 3 waterparks can thrive in Melbourne, then a themepark can as well.

No, probably not - don't get me wrong, it looks like a great coaster and something that I would definitely try to ride if I was in Poland, it's just not something that makes me go "I want to go to Poland now" (that said, Energylandia's hyper does, and probably would if it was made by Vekoma too).

    Fair enough :)
