  1. Yep. Pretty reasonable safety restriction, especially being as far as they are from medical services in the event that something goes badly wrong. The forces on that thing look pretty intense.
  2. Pretty sure that says 'INFORMATION TAG' and is pretty standard in terms of 'safety inspections' - these are in the same ballpark as 'out of service' tags when it comes to plant and equipment safety inspections. I don't know about this specific model, but the cam design on most carousels does have a fair amount of play. Keeping the hole that wide ensures that if anyone were to stick an appendage into the hole it wouldn't get pinched between the moving pole and the stationary sides of the hole. If you decrease that diameter, you increase the pinch risk. Brushes might also encourage kids to try to touch them.
  3. The biggest problem for Movie World right now - beyond everything else mentioned in this thread (or even on this site in other threads and articles), is this: As long as those turnstiles keep spinning, bean counters don't think there is a problem. Experience based managers who walk the park and talk to guests, who view the park through the eyes of a guest and say 'this won't do at all' are going to see the unhappy faces and do something early. Folks who look at attendance charts in a boardroom don't know how pissed off they're making people until they stop coming. ...and then they stand there and wonder why.
  4. Controversial opinion - I think Village got very lucky with the GL incident. The El Loco had not been done with a 4-abreast car - this was a special for MW. They were also trumpeting steepest drop until that got snatched away at the last minute too. Of course, the safety and engineering of the design comes back on the manufacturer every time (and that's why the investigation outcome was what it was) but I wonder how much of that was instigated by the park pushing the need for the larger capacity cars. I suppose the El Loco hasn't had a perfect safety record outside of MW either though, so probably easier to let S&S wear it... but we'll never know the full truth on that.
  5. I think that was floated before but I think the argument was they don't currently have the maintenance teams to do more than 1-2 rides at a time, so if you tried to do all rides in a 3-4 month window, you probably wouldn't get them all done without additional staff who would be redundant the other 8-9 months of the year.
  6. Since we're picking this apart, don't forget, Paradise Country and the Dreamworld Wildlife section should pretty much cancel each other out.
  7. Considering the recent discussions about people wanting to visit parks where 'safety and maintenance' are a thing - I guarantee the family man's wallet looks at that price difference and opts for Dreamworld, provided the park has enough to occupy the family.
  8. The business as a whole should have policies in place, but if it doesn't, that is a direct responsibility of the people whom are charged with running it. If the folks who lead to the neglect and dangerous conditions (and were negligent) have since left the company, and the folks who now steer that ship have demonstrated that the policies that should have been in place now are, and have cleaned house - both by getting rid of negligent people but also getting rid of non-compliant equipment and machinery - (see also: closed rides) then it stands to reason that it deserves the perception to change. The park DID kill people. the park IS responsible for the incident and the conditions that lead to it, but THAT park is not the park that it is today. As for those screenshots - let me sum those up: Every park has a history of maintenance and safety until they don't. Dreamworld argued prior to the incident that they shouldn't need independent inspection because of how good their safety systems were. Movie World was a few loose bolts away from killing more than 4 people, and would have been tarred with that same brush. Don't just judge a company's history - judge it's people. The guy is protesting the loss of the Sky Loop. I think we've heard from him here already. As for the ride losses - why is Rapids understandable, but log flume isn't, considering Sea World also closed their homemade log flume? Tower and Wipeout were both end of life, and Buzz was an ongoing maintenance problem for the park and lacked capacity (and guest interest)- All these rides are 'understandable' in context. The only issue is they happened all at once, but better to wipe the board clean and start fresh with a new team than to continue trying to band-aid things to keep them running and avoid the major capital expenditure the park desperately needs. This guy is talking out his arse. He reckons Taipan is "a tenth" of the DC Rivals height. Taipan is 128ft to Rivals 200ft, but if his view is that being a hypercoaster is all it needs to be the best then i'm not sure I want to give any weight to anything else he says. Yes, Dreamworld has an image problem, and with so many recent ride removals its going to take a little while to build up their core offering. Memory fades over time, but they also need to show what has changed and give everyone a good reason to return and see for themselves. The media doesn't help, but all fades in time. All said and done, if Ardent were to sell to a new owner, even if the shareholders and management stayed much the same, it'd probably be an enormous step in convincing people things had "changed" even though they have already.
  9. This is the most ridiculous explanation for something i've seen this year.
  10. Yeah, it's private certifier archiving. it's not a controversial development or anything requiring council consideration, there are no documents attached and it's already approved. There is nothing groundbreaking here, and the name says it all - it's the lego refurb.
  11. It IS pretty standard. It's just a shame it was a necessary action at all.
  12. ...and i'd say loud screams, crowd noise, show explosions, and other theme park associated sounds, at 8-9pm - a time when many kids are being put to sleep during school holidays (and when many working adults are starting to wind down) is far more likely to keep people from going to sleep in the first place, as opposed to simple crowd noise at 2-3am (which is also further away) when people are already asleep. Either way, it doesn't matter. We aren't las vegas. we don't have a history of opening late on the regular. Our parks should have longer trading hours (and this thread shows they're looking at small extensions to try easing the crowds) but dismissing the concerns of residents, who were there first, who are demonstrably closer to sources of noise than other recent examples of noise complaints in residential areas - shows that you're not basing your arguments in reality - instead working on the selfish basis that all these other reasons shouldn't matter because someone else has done what you want these guys to do. Our coasters use seatbelts. our parks don't trade late. Movie World's neighbours were there first and don't like loud noise 12+ weeks of the year.
  13. it goes directly to your claim about trees being sufficient to ignore any noise concerns. The trees aren't sufficient. Superman seatbelts can be done by guests. So can Green Lantern. It seems to be a 'MACK' thing about these belts. Yes I realise Mack coasters overseas don't have them, but all their current seatbelt requirements seem to be more than just a redundancy to the restraint, they are themselves their own safety system. I boarded Tailwhip once, and got talking to the operators. Old mate did my seatbelt up, and then for some reason, turned around to shut the gate that was behind him as it was left open - The loader on the other side of the platform called him to come back to the chair. He forgot to swipe the tag on the seat to confirm the belt, and it timed out before he got back. They had to unlock and redo the harnesses and re-swipe the tags. I don't know why its needed, but its clearly a manufacturer requirement for the operators to do it this way, rather than a 'specific to Australia' thing.
  14. Go take a look at Wild West Falls. Nevermind - i've included a picture below - let's play spot the difference: See how Wild West has a giant wall built down the side of the drop? It shields residents from the screams of riders. Notice it's missing from the second pic? Thats Rio Bravo in Parque Warner - where no such residential issues exist. There is a big reason nothing else is built up that end of the park despite decades of people coming up with amazing concepts, and its also why they continue to develop and expand into the carpark. The residents were there before these rides were, and too much noise, or too many late nights, and the complaints go to council and the park has to deal with them. As for trees and tree heights - Up in Cleveland, channel 7 filmed a TV show called Holey Moley. The local council received noise complaints from residents who were (at their nearest) over 250m away through a dense forest of trees. The filming had a handful of family friends and rent-a-crowd numbering a couple of hundred, as opposed to the thousands of people who attend movie world night events. The closest house to Movie World's operations is under 150m (Stunt Driver's fireball finale), and the closest distance to rider screams (Wild West's drop) is 230m. It's just simply unworkable. Luna Park doesn't have to but only because of government support, court precedents and legislation. There was a time when the residents shut the park down. Come back and complain when Movie World is 100 years old, has been shut down and through court. Here's a tip for free - there's a lot of people here who have had these discussions a dozen times before. This site has been around for almost 20 years. You've been around for 5 minutes. Why don't you try listening to these guys who have worked in the industry over those two decades, instead of telling them (wrongly) why they must be wrong. Theres a lot of people being quite a lot more patient with you than they should be - but that patience is quickly running out.
  15. Looks like Doomsday and Wild West is down also - although not sure if current downtime or all day.
  16. It's probably going to get better next week given all the schools will be back in session. I think if there were any reason for the crowds to continue next week, management would consider postponing any non critical maintenance if there were flexibility in their schedules.
  17. It's worth mentioning. absolutely. Superman Escape has re-opened and has never looked better! Whether your first visit was last year or in January 2006 - this is a truthful statement, and also tells former riders that it all looks great without implying that there are new things they haven't seen before. Also - even if its an 'entirely different tech effect' - if it looks the same (or similar enough to what they remember), the average punter isn't going to know the difference, so it's still just a restoration of a previous effect. 'oh look, the steam is back!' Remember - GP still think Vortex came from Dreamworld and used to be called 'The Wipeout'.
  18. First of all, that does nothing to verify your claim that 80% are not passholders. Secondly, the second review you posted actually doesn't say either way whether they're a passholder or not. It's ok that you made up an exaggerated statistic in your forum post - 93% of all statistics posted to forums online are exaggerated and made up. Don't double down trying to prove it because the park had more than 10,000 guests in park the other day and you're not going to find 8000 day ticket buyers. How exactly? You said they should take the guest aside, give them a stern talking to, tell them you'll make an exception, but that you'll write down they've been told they can't come in during blockouts, so if they come again, they won't be allowed. ***but then actually not write it down, and if they show up again, just repeat the above*** ...and all i'm saying is - do what you actually say you're going to... and i've departed reality? pass the crack pipe, would you Joz?
  19. No, i'm saying trust the guest when they tell you the first time, but record it, and make it available to staff at the gate, so there is no need to trust the guest the second time because if it's a second time per the recorded notes, there is clearly a reason not to trust them - because instead of staff lying to guests by telling them they would write down that they had been warned, but not actually do that, they would tell the truth to guests by actually doing what they say they will. Otherwise, all you do is show them they can abuse the system because nobody cares. (Which, I might add, further pisses off the folks who do read the conditions, who do follow the rules, because when they see it happening - such as spreading the word on social media that they got away with it again, it makes those honest folks wonder why they bothered to pay $XX extra for a premium product when the company lets scammers and liars obtain the same premium product by deception, for failure to enforce the fucking rules. Yes. I bought VIP Gold. Yes. I was fucking pissed off I paid more for a product that wasn't blocked out only to see those with cheaper passes permitted to do the very thing I paid extra for. It seems to be the attitude here at the moment that the park should bend over backwards to please the minority of folks at the expense of the majority - either by keeping the gates open when the park obviously shouldn't admit extra people, or by selling cheaper passes with blockout dates, but never enforcing them. All of it smacks of avoiding confrontation - and all that does is teach the shittier parts of society that all they have to do is ask to speak to the manager to get their way. The customer isn't always right, and sometimes its ok to say NO.
  20. No, I don't think it has (been written) - however when you read the following in sequence: (plus all the replies after this) sort of supported the likelihood that I was on the money about restoration vs enhancement... If it has in-fact been enhanced with additional effects beyond the restoration or substitution of what was there opening day (like I said at the beginning), then that's wonderful news and I look forward to seeing them.
  21. As you so rightly pointed out (pretty clearly), it works for people who went to the park for the first time last year. But for a ride that has been open for going on 17 years - there's going to be a lot more people out there that have experienced it when things were working, making this marketing a flat out disappointment. You're right about one other thing - this IS a silly argument... just not for the reasons you think it is. If they had put scooby back exactly as it was after the year or so it operated without the interior ghost train walls and theming - recreated every wall and effect in exact detail - even putting the original green lasers and mirrors back in as they were on opening, and then said 'come see the new scooby' and all people saw was what was there before it was gutted - there would be an uproar. Why is this different? because it fell to shit slowly rather than get gutted all at once? Marketing is about blowing enough smoke up someones ass to convince them to come see the thing, I know this, but an enhancement it is not. If your target market is the guy who came for the first time a year ago, and in doing so you're happy to disappoint your lifelong fans - then your marketing team needs to be fired.
  22. I wish that it were so simple. In theory, yes - a stern talking to works wonders. in practice, your gate staff aren't going to be firm enough in order to avoid the confrontation that comes with telling a Karen and her family they did something wrong. We're in a society now where teenagers tell cops to fuck off, knowing full well the police won't do anything about it. There is not enough respect for authority these days - you don't stand a chance at the gate. I'm gonna bet that if I go back through all 31 of your posts on this forum, that 80% of your posts have been immediately shot down in flames by someone who knows what they're talking about.
