Theme Park Maintenance Schedules 2017
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to themagician's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I appreciate that they need to do maintenance, and with Scooby's theme issues, Green Lantern's proximity to construction, along with regular annual maintenance periods of everything else, it is a very unfortunate time - but that doesn't make it acceptable. Like Sea World's total of RIDE, Movie World is very quickly approaching similar status, and although it might not bother passhole-ders too much, those who come for a single day pass or a short week's holiday are going to be sorely disappointed. So i'll say it - why can't they do annual maintenance on GL at the same time it is closed for hyper construction? Likewise, why can't Scooby have maintenance done at the same time they reinstall the theme elements? I'm not sure the situation for Superman, but two maintenance periods (ok, I assume they'd straddling a holiday period - kudos to them for not totally screwing their customers) totalling almost 4 months is outrageous given the recent lengthy downtime for repaint. Of note is that SE and GL are both down at the same time throughout June - but I wouldn't have thought that SE would be impacted by construction??? Now i'm guessing they're probably putting in a lot of work to make sure they're looking their best for GC2018, but without some sort of compensation to the average full priced joe punter, its very disappointing. And after writing all this, I decided to crunch some numbers... and here is what i've come up with: The worst time to visit will be from 14-26 August - a total of FIVE attractions will be closed, including Dodgems, West, Superman, Doomsday and Speedy's Taxis Close runner up with 4 attractions closed will be 5 June to 11 June - Superman, Lantern, Tweety and Yosemite A tie for second place - 17 July to 13 August - total of FOUR including dodgems, West, Superman and Doomsday (and likewise on 27 August also) Also a tie for second place - 4 September to 8 September, again FOUR closed - dodgems, Superman, Scooby and Batwing Coming in third, 12 June to 23rd June - Superman, Lantern and Tweety tie for third, 28 August to 17 September - dodgems, superman and scooby closed also tie for third - 9th october to 4th november - dodgems, JL3D and Yosemite train also tie for third - 6 november to 19th november - dodgems, green lantern and JL3D. I've included the WB attractions in the list as they are still attractions. Basically between now, and boxing day, the only day where the park is scheduled to be operating all of their attractions is the 25th of June. On every other day this year until Boxing day, at least one major attraction is closed for scheduled maintenance* *ok ok - theres ONE more day where all the big ones are open, but tweety is set for maintenance - 24th of June, the day before ETA: for anyone looking for a visual representation, here it is. THe ride names are visible but the dates are illegible - the first date (left) is 29/05/2017, with the last date (right) being 28/12/2017. yellow rows are major attractions, blue rows are WB Kids attractions. -

There is a limited number of them you know... It sometimes happens, delays forecast due to a need for parts. parts shipping time quoted as 'up to 42 days' ends up taking 6 days = not as long required as initially forecast. #win? -
^but as Joz said, a new flat ride might be a better place to start, and wouldn't be much more expensive than moving Surfrider.

Only issue I see for marketing it that way is that anyone stopping in there to use it for that purpose (ie: like a service centre \ truck stop \ rest stop) isn't going to want to park halfway across the carpark and walk across a football field of cars. service centres don't have a lot of carparking because their spaces are high turnover. most people don't 'dine in' as they're in a hurry to get going onto their destination - so at most, it's *run inside *toilet *order food *collect food *maybe fill the petrol tank (which Dreamworld cannot offer) and get going. You can find a parking space very near the entrance (within 1-2 rows or so - rarely more than 100 metres). by 10am most days, you're walking double that or more to get to the lego store \ P&G. I think your suggestion misses the market. Sure there are people who would go to the park JUST to visit lego etc (ie - not enter Dreamworld itself) but unlikely to be roadtrippers needing a rest-stop. -

I did cue the clip up to the specific one I was referring to. I didn't intend for you to have to watch the whole thing. If it were a Disney ident compilation, that'd be a different story however. -

Thing is, when you're on a roadtrip through back country, and you come upon a truck stop, serving greasy food thats been sat in a food warmer for hours, its bloody terrible, but you'll still buy it, and still eat it, because where else are you gonna go? If dreamworld were in the middle of surfers, no way would they get away with serving up lacklustre fare (note: i haven't been to the P&G, and i'm not suggesting lacklustre fare is what they're offering, i'm simply allowing for the fact because that is what SOME individuals imply) - but since the park is isolated - to get anything else requires transportation - that if you're there during a particular mealtime (breakfast, lunch or dinner, it doesn't matter), you're likely going to buy it anyway. If a 'downtown' precinct were to develop, all controlled by Dreamworld, they could simply control what alternatives were present, and continue serving to their current standard. Whether that standard is a low or high one is entirely up to the diner - for myself personally, having seen the menu, i'm already impressed enough that I wouldn't call their offering a 'poor choice' in any sense (the preparation and consistency of which is a different matter entirely though) -
I have no desire to ride MDMC ever again. It was uncomfortable at best, painful at worst. the only sensation of speed I got is on the actual launch. By the end of the first curve, I felt like I was coasting down a supermarket aisle on the back of a shopping trolley (with the stereotypical wobbly wheel and all). You were right - it isn't intense, and you certainly nailed it's placement below Cyclone at the time, but I can't agree with it being either fast or fun. I concede though that that's a matter for personal opinion so I don't expect everyone \ anyone to agree with me. For me, I would rank it below a kiddie coaster - so much so that I had more disappointment last weekend when I realised the Spongebob coaster would be closed when I took my Niece and Nephew to Sea World for the day - because I at least was looking forward to riding that. (I'm no credit whore, I don't ride things (especially stupid things) just for the credit. It has nothing to do with the poor target of their marketing - i'm not downcasting it because it was incorrectly marketed as a thrill (although they did, and that was shitty too). I'm doing so because I see it as a hamstrung coaster, relying only on its motorbike gimmick, removing any possible wow factor by modifying the track so that it more appropriately suited a 'flat' race track, yet they stuck it in the middle of the bushland setting that was rivertown, and made it bright yellow. Its a frankenstein's monster that should never have occurred, and Jet Rescue only serves to demonstrate the many things they got wrong with MDMC. No mixed metaphors from me - as i've plainly said, I have every faith that this hyper will be the best thing since sliced bread, but i still disagree with awarding it first place until we've actually been on it - especially since many people's opinions on what make great - errr GREAT, vary wildly. The only thing about the hyper construction that will be worthy of re-raising in 10 years time will be the pathetically poor marketing effort we've seen from VRTP.

Rubbish. it's on the rear boundary. Although unlikely, its quite possible to open it up - if they wanted to. -
We still have a few months for them to do something with the area. I don't think it would take megabucks to add some shine to the area - and we've already seen piles of earth being built up around certain elements. I doubt the earthmoving was needed to install track when the track is a fair way off the ground, and the footers already sit higher than the surrounding ground... we've also seen some rock go in (which is most likely drainage, or preventing the machinery from slipping on wet ground), but i'm hoping MW is going to give us more than just a grassy paddock. I know most of the budget has gone on the ride, and I would totally prefer it that way - but i do hope after their shining example in the Villains Unleashed area, that they will do more than just a snazzy train. If it's better than Green Lantern, i'll be happy (not saying GL isn't good, just saying i'd like better than that), but i'd like to see a bit more than that.

I get the love for it, but let's be honest - Superman Escape holds the spot it does not just because it goes high, or fast. Any accelerator in the world does that, and yet, our little superman consistently ranks as one of, if not the best of its kind in the world, because its not just about the track design, but also the on-ride experience - the "pre-show" elements of the coaster are what lift it above the level of 'just another accelerator'. I have no doubt this coaster is going to be epic. You can tell just by looking at the site, and the height we know it will reach... but this is unhatched chicken counting at its best. Yes, everything we know tells us its going to be great - but we have seen examples of coasters anticipated to hell and back prior to opening that turned out to be a bucket of shit - MDMC is a great example locally, and there are many others the world over. Yes, it's a hyper. Yes, it's our first. So was MDMC - i'm sure it won't turn out to be the white elephant MDMC is, i'm sure it'll be fantastic. But i'm looking to MW to put a little more into this than they did GL - to truly do the experience justice. Otherwise - it'll be 'just another hyper' I have faith that MW and Mack will deliver - but until we strap in for that first ride, and come out the other side, I don't think we can just write Superman out of the history books. For 12 years it has stood unchallenged as the best in the country - let's not bury the old girl yet.

A typical 'grill' does have burgers - albeit a small section \ page of the menu, but they also do steaks, chicken etc, and usually options for chips \ potato \ salad \ vegetables etc. -

Nope! Try this one: -
You're feeling wrong. Other than a change in colours, the 'lightning' \ 'stardust' has been present for more than 2 years now: (Worth noting, this took about 3 seconds to figure out by googling 'VIP magic pass' in an image search and scrolling through images with the lightning \ stardust that had dates on them - try to do what others do here and check a few facts before just blurting a prediction out)

nah just make it run up and over the doorways or criss cross it along some 'roof beams' or something so it didn't take a beeline to the explosives... -

Technology these days would permit the installation of a fog screen, which could potentially hide the boat in front, and permit multiple boats on the lift at one time. Its a matter of "how much of your wad do you blow on something that isn't likely to give any ROI? upkeep, maintenance, maybe something new during each refurb, but seriously - who cares if you can see what the car in front of you is doing. just be thankful if we get an LED strip fuse that binds the story together just that bit better, and be thankful! -

Personally i'd like to see the old Village ident from the 80's return - it had like a futuristic swoosh sound effect along with it - which is hard to describe... -

Bermuda had a cheesy rope light with a standalone chaser controller. What @djrappa is talking about is completely different, programmable LED smart strip that can be controlled precisely - and is a great idea. -

Why would you even begin to think that they aren't fresh? If they weren't fresh, why would they only be sold at certain times of the day? Think....
