I look at it this way - given their history of the 'studio' theme in the park, and the use of big white sheds for practically everything, they could very well have left them the way they were, which would ruin the immersive area they are trying to build. I for one am glad to see them expending additional effort, time and money to try and blend the sheds with the new theme. Given the Main street buildings are scaled on the upper floors, and the use of forced perspective in film (which used to be ably demonstrated until the village bean arrived), I don't rightly care if the backdrop isn't perfect. They've tried, and given the smart use of the evac stairs as part of a building fire escape, which also gives the backdrop a 3d element - i'm happy enough with the result.

I wonder what they're going to do with the mammoth - it's surely got a fair amount of life in it yet...?

I don't think we can use Andrewh's escapade in this discussion - although it's slightly out of shot - the letters in the above photo are part of the message "Exit Only" so by entering through that door, there was a sign that told him not to... definitely not able to sue in this situation so it doesn't fit with the other examples.

Actually, new members, with low post counts are taken seriously where they can offer some sort of evidence that they are who they claim to be. We had a Dreamworld PR rep join the forum before the launch of V8 Redline. They offered enough info to legitimise their statements. Mark is another example. We are always skeptical of those who join the forum, drop a bombshell, and have nothing to back it up. It's happened too many times before. I totally agree with this, and I think Richard has discussed it as a possibility in the future. Given the forums now have a 'crew' badge for paying customers, I wouldn't think it would be too hard to extend that functionality to official representatives with a different badge. This.

Actually by far the easiest way in is through the Sydney Water property housing the reservoir... but you need Sydney Water's permission... and a key.

Attached image should give you some reference points. I do want to reiterate it is on private property behind locked gates... but as you can see - nobody needs a drone to see it... so long as you have nearmap!

I made no attack on him. I certainly didn't stand on a pedestal whilst pointing at him screaming "ner ner ner ner ner" I simply asked him to give some firm indication that he was who he claimed to be. We've had many impersonators on these forums over the years, and newcomers sprouting knowledge of big things are always met with skepticism. He also made a statement regarding the park's profitability. I mentioned that above. He stated the park never profited (go back a few pages if you don't believe me). I know that for a fact to be untrue. I told him in a post earlier in the thread he'd made a false statement which gave me cause to doubt his authenticity. He dismissed it, however - his last post, even after all this discussion, still stated that he would return despite the lack of welcome when he had more to share, but advised it would be rare given the work he was involved in. I've since reached out to the folks I know, and whilst they've confirmed the appointment of Mr Bakas to the role (even the media has that confirmation) I still haven't been able to confirm whether it was in fact David who had registered on this forum with the nick name @TheMousiah - so I still have my doubts as to whether it was even him or just another imposter. However I will state again that in the main, most people who questioned the authenticity of the poster, still did it with some respect. "Ha! In your face..." doesn't really fit.

Right or wrong, that sort of 'told you so' isn't really necessary. I'm sure it was an opinion (to which he is entitled). Theres a lot of info out there that would lead one to that conclusion, and it may not turn out to be incorrect.

Good man! There is actually another way, accessed directly off the M4. I can assure you also that this too is fully fenced, and the gates are locked.

You're forgetting the fact that Australia's Wonderland was modelled on Canada's Wonderland - a park that still exists (and flourishes) to this day. It's one of the most popular parks in Canada, and many of their attractions were the same OUAT. Probe was dismantled at sent to KL. It was in a paddock for a time, before they decided not to erect it due to the cost of the foundations required. It has since disappeared from the paddock and it's location is unknown, probably scrapped. Actually they made a concrete announcement about funding in the past 12 months, along with the appointment of a CEO with industry experience. Land is still an ongoing negotiation, but i'm sure once they lock that in, things will move much more quickly. As an example - the Alma Park zoo, which was to have built in Logan - things took about 18 months before the council finally cancelled the contract holding them in breach. Negotiations take time. @XxMrYoshixX - I don't recall having ever said that, and i'd like for you to quote me if you can find it. I do know that that is something @TheMousiah said, which I don't believe to be true.

Well its a little more detailed, and the artist renderings look far better - but a browse of the whole site shows some of the same imagery on other pages - such as a proposal to bring back Jazzland (SF New Orleans). Having seen the devastation of SFNO, I can't imagine why anyone would want to build there again... Either way its much better than the original sydney's wonderland website. here's hoping we see a fully fleshed out website in the near future, rather than a wordpress site.

of course it is. that's why i said "if this were universal", clearly it isn't. that said - as you say, its better than plain white shed, which has long been the staple of MW, to give the impression that each show building was a stage. That worked when you had a studio tour, and people saw real stages themed the same way, but now that nobody goes near the stages, the innocuous white sheds don't really fit anymore, and it's good to see they're taking steps to mask it.

David did say that he was open to hearing from those both negative and positive. He also said his absence was due to other priorities and nothing to do with a welcome or lack thereof on the forums. I'm pretty certain we'll see him back when something is able to be talked about.

If this were universal, we could say they were demonstrating the use of matte painting as background. We constantly complain that they don't do enough 'movie' in movie world, so if they leave it as is, that's my take on it. This is the part of universal's studio tour i'm referencing - the big concrete area is usually filled with water, and the blue wall is painted to look like sky. from the far right looking toward it, it looks like a perfect backdrop, and with the camera sufficiently framed, you don't see whats on the outside of the picture... that's kinda what i'm getting at.

Yeah, reading the article, i have my doubts as to how legit this is. It seems like it might be an attempt to get something out of the park for nothing, but that is just my personal feeling on the story, and if i'm wrong then i'm wrong. (Maybe it was a guest they mistook for a staff member too?) I am however fully in support of any woman who wishes to breastfeed in public as openly or as covered up as they should choose, and they should be left alone to do it in peace and comfortably. If this is legit the park needs to seriously smack the shit out of whichever staff member made this boneheaded move as they can be opened up to some serious penalties if found guilty. Ancilliary to my feelings on the legitimacy of the claim, they claim they spent $222 to enter the park, and left within an hour of entering the park. coincidentally, $222 happens to be precisely the price of two adults and one child 3 and over (which they had - the baby was free). However, they're gold coast locals. the woman works for Griffith University - I find it hard to believe that they would have paid single admission when they could easily have obtained locals season passes, which for an adult was the same price ($79) - which then means if you pay the same price for the 3 year old (an extra $15) you get until 30 June for the whole family, including carnivale for everyone. Ok - they may have only wanted to spend a single day in the park, but it's been a long time since i've met any local who has entered on a single day ticket without having very special circumstances. Also, I understand the embarassment, but if i were leaving a place for which i'd paid admission, and I wasn't satisfied I'd gotten my money's worth, i'd be talking to someone before i left the premises, as a way to legitimise my claim. To come back several days later and say "this happened" - it'd be pretty hard to prove it did (or didn't) happen. I think the park has done the right thing apologising for 'letting them down' without necessarily admitting or denying it happened - there would not at this point be any proof that it did indeed occur. I could go to the media tomorrow and claim that a cleaner sexually abused me in the toilets a month ago. It would purely be my word against theirs... I feel for the family if this actually happened, but something just doesn't feel right about the story and the way it has happened.

I know a lot of places that are part of member programs like RACQ and the like. I used to work for an organisation that accepted the presidential card. The problem with having signage saying "show your RACQ card to get 10% off" means you then get people who don't have the card going "can't you just pretend that i showed you one?" to try and get the same discount without being a member. Given your hotel background i'd think you might have experienced something like that? Anyhow - it's up to the member to read up on member specials and discounts, and know what they're entitled to, and to show \ ask for it at the time... the big problem then of course is when the cashier has no idea what they're supposed to do when they encounter someone with a card... but thats poor training that the management should take care of.

Sorry Skeet - I know they've left Eureka SBNO (thats a Macquarie legacy though), and Skylink has remnants left over - but skylink chairs and cables were dismantled, reef diver was dismantled and removed, as was the sturt, when they switched to a diesel tractor, they shipped one of their locos off to woodford. They don't have a stellar record, but they hardly 'don't spend a cent'...

I know it was a joke mate - i was just pointing out that the original statement was perfectly acceptable. I love your humor but for many it tends to be taken the wrong way. I'd have probably said the same thing if i'd gotten in first, and probably been pulled up by someone else just as quickly. anyhow... bygones.

pretty sure that was news a few months ago. Not sure why the media is only picking up on it now - I know Ammar was pretty vocal about it when the appointment actually occurred.

I'm not that much older than you @reanimated35 and for me it was the same. We had a huge bin of random lego pieces, and you'd comb through it for hours looking for that one piece you needed to finish what you were building. Sets were assortments of blocks in different colours that you could do anything with. Few 'models' stayed that way as the pieces were reused and rebuilt a hundred times in many different ways. These days you take it out of the box, put it together per the instructions, and then it sits on a shelf gathering dust after you played with it once or twice. The specialised pieces they make these days are cool, and make the models far more realistic - (take a look for example at a modern 'millennium falcon' vs. one from 30 years ago), but it means you can't really use them for anything else, and thats half the fun. That's why meccano was so much fun - you'd pull it apart, and put it back together differently and voila - something different to play with, until you get bored and start again!

It was an interesting read. I can't agree with the tone of the article though - here's some facts: they just wandered in. The grounds are private property, so they trespassed. The article quotes them encouraging others to do the same - let's promote illegal activity The boneyard is crawling with snakes - so guarantee some numpty goes and gets bitten ...which will then lead to the property owners, and the authority that has given permission for a certain group to legally access the site potentially being revoked. Sure its a great story, but I have to wonder whether NineMSN realised they are actually condoning and promoting illegal activity.
