  1. The point here is, what is classified as commercial purposes? I would classify COMMERCIAL as "for profit", so, so long as the site isnt charging to view the photos, i dont see a commercial gain? Some friends of mine own a laser skirmish centre. Basically, for those who have never played, its a dark room, painted black, with walls everywhere like a maze. Its an accident waiting to happen. At the entry to the maze, there is signage posted everywhere saying "you are playing at your own risk" and "staff take no responsibility for loss, injury or accident" etc... all the standard signage, like the ones you see at a regional show next to rides etc. Let me tell you something - that signage is rubbish. You dont need a loose paving tile, or a crack in the pavement to be able to sue. You can fall over from your own stupidity, and still successfully sue - all it takes it to find a reason why the park was responsible for your falling. You go on a gravitron, you come out, and through dizzyness, fall through a plate glass window - the owners of gravitron could be sued for that. To blend themeing in a ride, a low step is painted black, so is the floor, and so is the walkway. Because there isn't a different colour, you dont see the step, trip and smash your front teeth out. the ride owner can be sued for that. You are lining up for a roller coaster, and the safety barrier holding back the queue is not latched (such as at aussie world). A young child opens the gate, and wanders out onto the coaster rails, and promptly gets squished. Most would blame the parents for holding onto the child, but because the barrier was not latched..... sue away. Im sure bussy would be able to provide some more ride safety examples as well. It doesnt matter how many signs you post saying you are responsible for your safety, and they take no responsibility whatsoever, if you can find a reason why they are to blame for your own stupidity, you have an arguable case in court.
  2. awesome. good stuff. can't wait for more information...
  3. the coin pitch spruik was in reply to the spruik regarding the ride being closed. you asked if i've had to say the same thing over and over again all day - such as when a ride is closed, and you are guest relating, i was pointing out that yes - i have done that. you list the top capacity rides at the park as saying the spiel and individual guest relating, not ALL of them... But the bottom point is simple - gamesfront service food staff are 100% face to face relations. Operations are not. yes, you still do face to face stuff, but nowhere near what a games op would do.
  4. yes - but there was no evidence of demolition or anything like that, it looked like vacant land, that was used to house the equipment used to build rock n roll rebel etc. it was heavily churned up with caterpillar tracks etc criss crossing it all, but having said that, yes it is a great location for future expansion! because at the moment rock n roll rebel is in one little corner, and is all by itself. there is nothing in front of it to make it an attraction, and it didnt even appear on the map! so they need more there to attract guests, as we nearly missed the whole experience!
  5. Actually, I hate to say it but I am of the mind of Huss here. While park versions have a general inspection every day, and an annual maintenance - annually - the carney versions are constantly being pulled apart to the last nut and bolt, and put back together again. So long as the carnies follow a few simple rules - the carny versions of rides should be as safe if not safer that park versions THE RULES 1. Always replace broken, damaged or missing parts with parts supplied or authorised by the manufacturer, and nothing that is sub standard, or non-approved 2. Each nut, bolt, screw, lockpin etc should be checked by two separate people, and a checklist should be kept to ensure non are overlooked. 3. All mountings and parts etc (fibreglass moulds etc) should be checked xrayed regularly for structural integrity. 4. Safety checks should still be performed daily, as thoroughly as any park maintenance crew would do so, and should be shut down halfway through its operating day for a quick 30 minute inspection to ensure nothing is wearing down really fast, so it can be repaired, or closed, before a major accident. I dont think those 4 rules are too unreasonable to ask of the carnies, and It would lift the reputation of their industry immediately.
  6. - Bush Beast - It will never be moved, and it will never operate again without a huge cash injection. it will be heritage listed, or demolished. - Demon - Vision Land - Sky Hawk - Gold Coast, right next to fly coaster, currently SBNO - Tassy Devil - packed into a container, and stacked beside said container, its a bit up in the air, but most likely going to Sunway - Captains Cave Man - was being pulled down last december, most likely shipped to sunway - River Rapids - pump house demolished, the runs will be filled in, the tubes most likely sold off cheaply to another park that has a rapids ride - dreamworld perhaps? - Beastie - awaits the same fate as bush beast - Dragons Flight - i heard the mast had a large crack discovered in it. Whether it is being made portable, I dont know, but If not, it will most likely hit sunway as well. - Wizards Fury - scrapped. it was 30 years old when it was erected at the park in 1985, so it was well overdue. - Cable Cars( from the old Site at more park ) Still standing as far as I know, with some of the cars resting in one of the graveyards. they were aged beyond belief already, and i can't see them going anywhere else, unless Jamberoo has an interest in them? - Vintage Cars - they were actually sold, but still standing at the park in december. I believe the buyer has since acquired the ride - Dodgems - cars sold off to portable amusement company, building itself will most likely be demolished. - Speed Slide - boarded up - is it still standing??? - The beach Rides - what rides? there were the slides, one of which you have already named, and the two tube slides, - which was just tubes in a flume... - Bounty Revenge - on its way as per press release to be erected at sunway - Space Probe - SBNO - no prospects as to its future location
  7. As usual Clint, you put it into words that I simply did not think to say... but you are right. Scream - im not saying I observed the ride ops while i was working. Many a time i spent time before and after my shift, during my lunch break, and even days off walking around the park. So, in essence, observing them as much as a usual guest would. and even with the casual observation of a guest enjoying the park, i can still make the observations I have made.
  8. i am perplexed as to why an orange county sheriff officer commented on the accident, being that orange county is the home of Disneyland in Anaheim California, whereas Walt Disney World, the Magic Kingdom, is located in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, several hundred miles away?
  9. no idea.... but being that the attraction that it is replacing was called Water Wars, i'd say its gunna be SOMETHING to do with water... my hunch is it will be more of a picniceating area that will be nicely landscaped... but who knows? no sign of the ghost train, but theres only two places it could be if it was still standing - and thats the current location of rock n roll rebel, or the soon to be theatre...?
  10. scary thing is, having just come back from aussie world.... that ride looked almost identical to the swings at aussie world...
  11. several times during your time.... but did you do it EVERY day? and that is my point. Also - every single game at the park was possible, be it through luck or skill, and I have already posted a full list of all of the games in the park elsewhere in the forums. Ever stood in one place telling 1000 or more people the same thing? "20 cents to play, only 20 cents here today, right here at coin pitch, test your luck, land a coin on the table and win yourself a fantastic prize, come on folks, only 20 cents to play here today, grab your prizes, win your partner something nice, prove your skill in between your thrills, right here at Coin Pitch" Ok - so say you're on Ampol's Autos... not EVERYONE wants to ride that, so on a quiet day, yes, ill give you a 1000. But that same day on Coin Pitch - We would face more than 5000 guests, and we would do it every day. AND, when we had finished that spiel, we would then have to spiel the rules individually to each player as they lined up to play, repeating it several times in the space of 5 minutes. I dont claim that games and retail and food had an EASIER job than Ops, but face to face guest relations, while I am stereotyping with the "sitting behind the panel pushing buttons", it is nevertheless an overstated truth, in comparison to the retail or food staff.
  12. The theme at Aussie World is simply all things Aussie. They have updated lately with a few rides that sort of don't fit the theme precisely, but it is still a very impressive park, for it's size. There is also talk of new rides, with an expected 3 new attractions before christmas. Probably the thing I was most impressed with, was the Rock N' Roll Rebel, so i'll start with that first... To go out on a limb, this ride borders on "scooby" quality, scaled down to the parks size. It is a ride similar to Taz (a trailer version im pretty sure - like Alpine Express). The ride is inside a room, so it comes under a "Dark ride" setting. The ride has Intelligent Moving lights, and neons, strobes and smoke machines to create a very nice "disco" atmosphere. The ride starts with a welcome, a few safety instructions, and a well mixed set of 50's and 60's rock n roll tunes, with a lightshow to match. Halfway through, the ride stops, reverses, with more tunes and lights. I have seen this ride at regional shows, and I am VERY impressed with what they turned it into. Its something that must be seen. One thing that must be remembered is that this is a small time park. it is not dreamworld or movie world, and it will take a lot before it ever will be. Some of their old "favourites" have been removed in recent times, with plans for more new and exciting stuff to come later on. They have swings, similar to Dragon's Flight, without the tilt, a Tilt-a-Whirl, Dodgems, what they claim is one of the largest ferris wheels in the country, a go-kart track (not very fast), a simulator (the Venturer Simulator seen at a few regional easter shows), in a permanent mounting, a Wild Mouse, a Swinging Ship (fixed), and an octopus ride (hard to describe, cross between taz devil, the sizzlercha cha and something else, not sure what model it is). The have a few small kiddie flats, and a putt putt golf course. It is good value with free entry, and tickets sold for rides either $1 per ticket, or $22 for 3 hours unlimited rides. (rides cost about 4-6 tickets each). We found the 3 hour unlimited ride to be quite good value, and the only disappointment was the rudeness from the food service staff at the eatery. Our Highlight (staff wise) was probably Jodie, who was running the simulatorticket booth window. She was nothing but helpful, friendly, cheery, and informative, filling us in on the new upcoming attractions. To come soon will be some form of theatre (with a twist?) and rumored to be another (fixed?) coaster to go along with the portable wildmouse. and another one---? Construction was present all around the park, but this did not interrupt or inconvenience our day one bit, which was surprising for the works that were going on. it is more a park that must be visited to be enjoyed, and no TR could describe the enjoyment we had. We had a number of people with us, with varying levels of "thrillseeking" in them, and we managed to go on most rides together, althought most are spin-and-spew... The staff are for the most part a friendly bunch, and really do enjoy their jobs. Not much more I can say right now, until i think of more, here are some pics!
  13. Just came back from Aussie world, and I am VERY IMPRESSED with what a park that size has achieved. I am on dialup, and returning to Sydney tomorrow, So I will have a full TR posted by then, including some pics!
  14. Scream, you have given a great description of the "job description". I am referring to the tasks actually performed by most Ride Operators, as opposed to Ushers, I observed at Wonderland. While there are exceptions, I am referring to the majority. So this "spiel" load "spiel" safety "spiel" running "spiel" stopping etc is rubbish. Most Ops I observed would read out the mandatory safety checks, and start the ride. this Spieling is not direct interaction with guests either, as the spiel could be read from a black room 20 kms away, and still have the same effect. DIRECT INTERACTION WITH THE GUEST, FACE TO FACE, FOR THEIR ENTIRE JOB. Show me how an OP achieves that? If you read correctly, I was at SPEED PITCH not COIN PITCH. The Amplifier for the microphone was over the counter, which, from his position, was behind him.
  15. i thought there was more than two movies...? Batman, Batman Returns, Batman Forever Now Theres Batman Begins.... have i missed any? And JozRabid.... are there any plans for movie world to upgrade the cinemotion with Batman Begins? it couldnt be that hard could it???
  16. I think Joz's second comment there was spot on the money of what i was trying to say. Yes, attractions does get the abuse when you can't ride and such, but so long as you're within the restrictions, and obeying the rules, the only time you heard from your ride operator was when they were spieling at the start and end of the ride. As Joz said, im not talking about the burger flippers, but the service people. the same as the games staff, and the retail staff...... their entire job is face to face with a guest, not just if they're annoyed with a ride. I was stating that half of an ops job was behind a panel, pushing buttons, as opposed to food and retail that are face to face all the time. there was no main switch for the microphone, the only off switch was on the microphone, in his hand.
  17. Pic Requests - Disney- Any Internals of Space Mountain or Haunted Mansion (i know they frown on photography, but the truly creative of us can sometimes work wonders) Universal- Any interesting ones... Silver Bullet X Montezoooma Viper Ninja Colossus Goliath
  18. Ill get shouted down for this, but RetailPark ServicesF+B staff had more face to face contact with guests than Operations(Rides) Staff. The most contact most ops staff had were opening a gate, then sitting behind a panel and spieling the safety act (yes i know some were different, but for the most part...). The others had more face to face verbal interaction. A lot of the teenagers in the park DID know their rights, and loved to flaunt it, but while i was always in the mood and the theme of the park, if I got a smarta$$, he got taken down quick smart. After my incident at SpeedPitch, I either had a phone or a radio at any location I worked at. The first hint of trouble, security got called in... We had a lot of trouble on our games with theft. If we had more than 1 attendant, I'd call it in, and follow them.... BUSTED! the funny thing is most of those prizes cost less than 10 bucks, and these guys, and their group, got kicked out. goodbye to a couple hundred bucks worth of entry tickets... and if they were wonderpass holders, they lost their wonderpass... over a ten dollar piece of fabric, and some styrofoam beans.... pattieboi, your immaturity shows through every time you post. if you had of said "i didnt do it, it was that guy..." no problems. but you swear at me.... i'd get Janice onto you...
  19. Joz, im pretty sure the guidelines allow links to be posted where that link is relevant to the topic, and pertinent to the discussion. Why did Paul have to ask permission?
  20. I was on SpeedPitch, a game between bounty's and dodgems, where you had to throw a ball down a tunnel, and guess the speed of your throw. It was union day, in the hot sun, and the sun was beating down directly onto my location. I had a group of about 40 middle-eastern teens, all hassling me out, for more than an hour straight. Now Speedpitch had no phone, no radio, no line of sight communication to any location with a phone or any other method of communication, and I was stuck. There was a small hole in the building, conveniently in the right place that if you threw the ball a bit skewed, it would go into the hole, and require retrieval... Which is no easy task - standing in a tunnel that people throw balls down as hard as they can. After the 30th time this happened, and getting balls chucked at me all the way, one of the smart-guys picked up the microphone, and started swearing and shouting into it as loud as he could. I lost it. I threw the ball down, walked up to him, ripped the microphone out of his hand and told him off. He grabbed me by the throat and held me up against a wall.... **how's that for cast-guest relations??** Conveniently, our head of security was walking by, heard the commotion, grabbed the guy who had me by the throat, and put him into a choke hold until he passed out. I never worked that game again... lol.
  21. Relations? Ok.... im not touching that one.....
  22. I used to work down in Goldrush, and I would go into the old time photos shop, and borrow some of the outfits, including a pretty authentic looking rifle, and i would "hold up" the train as it came through. The train driver and I would usually discuss when I was going to do it, and generally when we got a train of packed tourists. I played the bushranger to a tee, which is something the likes that you would have seen around 1985. I was keeping in theme, the guests loved it, and I also did not neglect my "real" duties while I was doing it... and I was written up for it. Another time I was working the games cluster up in Botany Bay, on High Striker - something they loved putting me on, and I absolutely hated. We had a young girl come through. She had recently been discharged from hospital for chemotherapy - i mean seriously with like - no hair and everything. Her mother had been taking her from game to game, through the whole park, trying to win something better than the crap plastic consolation prizes they gave out, so I activated the game on the setting that basically guaranteed she could not lose. She chose a hammer, whacked the crap out of it, and won. three muscled up "middle-eastern-appearance" style guys in their late teens saw this, thought there was no way to lose, and paid their money and lost. they complained, and i was written up for allowing the little girl to win.... how gay is that?
  23. i think that is where we got that impression.
  24. Its also funny the comments made about persons in the industry not visiting this site, when the person making the statements is an ex-industry worker, who does consider himself to be quite in the know about the park he worked for.... he should know the levels of management who were at the park he worked for that visited this site regularly during its trading periods....
  25. it will come in good time. WBMW has already made announcements on the type of ride, the theme of the ride, the height, a vague storyline, and the location within the park. They don't have a massive billboard posted out front, but have made it quite plain as to their intention. The rest will come closer to the release date. Many a park have published imagery way before the ride opened, only to find the ride is delayed, or there is a difficulty in getting the ride to "be" what was in the picture.... meaning many disappointed fans. Keeping the "final" ride under wraps until such time as it's bolted to the ground is good for keeping up the suspense.... IMHO.
