Hey all, I was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts, ideas, facts or theories on the Park's next Major Attraction? MW have put their Midway parlour into a nice cosy air conditioned space now and have left the old west area by the show stage completely vacant. Is it just me or is this area screaming out for attention? I heard a while back that Springfeld & the Simpsons were on the cards for moving into the space. Personally I think this is a magnificent idea and if done right would be a perfect addition to the only really sad corner of this great Park. Or maybe something better is on the cards perhaps??

Yeah think of it as jumping into a cold swimming pool. Once you get in and move around, you get used to it. But the more you hesitate, the worse the notion of getting in becomes!! Same with Superman, try not to just stand there watching it going around and doubting whether you should ride! Best way - go into the Park and just get straight on board!! You'll be amazed out how much you will love it. It's safe, smooth and bucket loads of fun. Good luck and be sure to write back your thoughts on the ride tomorrow:)

^^ A success or great ride yeah, I think that's exactly what GoGoBoy is saying. I haven't had the pleasure of riding either new Coaster but I have seen enough footage and heard enough testimonials to form the opinion that Surfrider is wicked fun and Motocoaster is well, just fun

^ Showing my age here but I remember riding Eureka for the 1st time not long after it first opened. Arguably, Gold Rush Country was Dreamworld's most curious and anticipated new area ever built. The Mine Ride's 'Carts' originally sat just two people with one in front of the other. I remember It scared the absolute sh*t out of my Mum and for good reason too! The ride was at it's wildest back then and made far more dips and winding turns in and out of the mountain than last time it was ridden. The Cart's guide wheels held losely beneath the rails allowng them to tip as they wound in and out of the mountain, adding to the feeling of danger. Perhaps this was a design that was considered unsafe and maybe why the whole ride was rebuilt a short time later? Over the years, the track has been completely redesigned and elements of it (like the nasty S-Bend that used to finish the ride) were replaced with boring straight track runs.. Eureka Mountain Mine Ride remains as one of DW's last TRUE themed ride experiences. It simply must stay. Dreamworld, you said they would have to follow the original track layout but the last track standing for this ride is anything but original!! They don't have to build it the same way and if they do one day reopen Eureka I hope it will be bigger and better than before..

^ Excellant, a nice little addition for the place. Glad to see they have decided to include them in the ticket price. I'll look forward to giving them a go when I pop in for a visit next month

I'm guessing that due to low seating capacity and huge crowds expected this Summer, the wait for this ride is going to get pretty horrendous - no matter how quick the cycle time My best advise to anyone out there, go mid week and avoid school holidays if you wanna get a few goes in! Thanks for the article too Richard. The pic looks awesome!

But does it still look that bad now it's finished? It's still being erected in that photo so
-
I dunno, it serves it's purpose and I'm sure the intended Audience doesn't see it that way. Besides, it's the same style of manufacture as so many others out there like it. Certainly not one for Adults but I bet that won't stop some of them riding!

I believe it's 20 metres. Lethal Weapon is 30 and i don't think it's quite that high

Mick Doohan Motocoaster construction discussion
MickeyD replied to AugustVonPolen's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Right! I think we're a bit off topic but not a worry - We'll all be looking at the Motocoaster in operating action in a day or two now so lets get back on topic hey? Surely someones got something constructive to add on the ride? If not, put up, shut up and watch the show... PS AlexB nice speech -
WnW has been around for decades and has had plenty of time to blossum into what is today recognised in the top 5 water parks in the world. It's a stand alone park. WWW was built to compliment DW and largely as a way to boost Macquarie's $$ per guest. No matter how much Capital is injected into WWW's future, WnW will always be one step ahead because it is already so established. I think it is important for both owners to recognise this so the two Park's can flaunt their differences and continue to maximise their own success.

Yeah, i'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and sit tight and see what happens. If the launch is faster then so too will be the rest of the ride - hitting the highest point at a faster speed will pace up the trip. In saying that, it's designed to be a family ride afterall. It looks kind of fun but I won't go out of my way to ride it in a hurry -
^ I heard this too with the plan for a "Springfield" area to replace the old part of the Western area out the front of and including the stage show. Last I heard this plan has been shelved for the time being but how awesome would it be to see the new Universal Simpsons ride hit the Park some time in 2008?!?!

^ I guess that's the major issue with DW today - Themeing (or lack thereof). I'm an old school DW Buff. Back in it's hey day, it was easily the best Park, hands down. It's a shame to see these days too much focus is put on the brand new attractions whilst they let the old one's slip by the weigh side (or vanish all together). Having worked almost 10 years in Theme Park's myself, it makes me angry to see DW in the state it's in today. Are the Manager's blind? Why do they not seem to see what is so obvious to so many of us who spend far less time wondering the grounds?? Without much effort at all, I see rust, closed attractions, boarded up areas, faded paint work, old footpaths, very few atmosphere performers, broken lights, dust, cobwebs & visible wood rot. Not to mention the horrendous colour scheme that has engulfed the area in more recent times (ie Main st Facades & Captain Sturt) These efforts have only made the problems stand out more... IN FLURO! As the old jingle goes "Do Dreamworld just for Fun"....Yeap that's about it -just 'fun' with no 'frills'? I hope one day we see a return to a Dreamworld that has 'themed' areas and more continuity. The addition of some 'adventure' based attractions that rely equally on visual wow's as they do thrills and maybe tell a bit of a story. Sadly, it's been a very long time since we have seen any of that here..
-
I'm sorry but I think this looks pretty lame.. I mean, what do we have here?? Some colourful fibreglass bowls, turf and a garden that looks comparable to a local housing development. Yeah the area looks really 'nice' and I reckon that's just about all it is!
-
Awesome! Thanks for the pics. Well QLD school Holiday's officially start tomorrow - I wonder how soon this little number will be riding real peeps? Not long to go at all by the looks!
-
All in all, these are some nice little additions to the Park. I dare say now MW has the most expansive, dedicated children's area of any Australian Theme Park.. A real little home run!
-
Hey thanks for the update and pictures. The Tassie's Kids Bumber cars have been there for quite a while now. I wonder what the other children's ride is being installed? The Merry-go-round type of ride looks rather on the cheap side at the moment but I'm sure they will gloss it up as they always do

Bring back the studio tour and wheres superman?
MickeyD replied to clone_tk422's topic in Theme Park Discussion
^ You are way of the mark (not that it matters) It went: 1) Bullpen (we're guest's on stage were selected for the show) 2) Superman stage (Blue screen effects) 3) Sound FX stage (Lethal Weapon 2) 4) Memphis Belle SPFX stage Scary thying is I can still remember every single script (I did them too many times) but I'll spare us the sanity of resiting them -

^ yep that's pretty much it! U got Memphis and Lethal weapon sound FX around the wrong way though (memphis was last) Oh and BTW I used to work on the Studio tour in it's er hey day and I can tell you that none of the costumes in those cabinets were original!!! -
Bring back the studio tour and wheres superman?
MickeyD replied to clone_tk422's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Well I'm sorry mate but you're the one who doesn't know their facts - there was a fire in one of the studio Sound Stages caused during filming House of Wax and another one also occured in the Park atop the Wild West Falls, that's it. The Studio Tour closed down long before the Superman ride was ever even thought of and it was the Movie Magic show that was replaced by Superman -
^ I don't think that's it at all.. I believe there are other plans for the old Maverick building (both short & long term). I'm with Adam on this one - I think it will make for a great filler attraction, giving the Park more balance. The new additions for the Tune Village will also help create this and it's good to see such additions being made between the much bigger developments (which we obviously won't see this year.)
-
Yeah well maybe not movies but definately Theme Parks unfortunately! Does nothing for me but I'm sure there are plenty of people out there that will enjoy it. They could have done so much better with the space. Oh well, lets wait and see before we judge

The Tune ride according to the website will reopen tomorrow however looking at the extent of redevelopment in the area, maybe it will be down for longer?? It has been closed for almost a month already. It's great to see the Park going to such efforts in maintaining and updating things.. A little birdy told me about a year ago there were some fairly impressive plans for the Tune area in time for Xmas this year - I don't believe this included new attractions as such, mainly just updating the original section of the Tune Village area to make it fit the newer area. I hope when the Tune ride reopens we do see lighting and Animatronics fixed/updated as the show was beginning to show it's age
