  1. Can anyone tell me if DW has modified the wings on Tailspin? I visited the park yesterday (first time in a couple years!) and felt like the wings don’t move as much as what I remembered them to. I used to be able to get a mad spin going for the entire ride but I couldn’t get my plane to flip once. I was in plane 3 and it was windy and still nothing 😑

  2. Hi @aussienetman,

Not sure what time of year you’re thinking of going but I recommend getting the flash pass if you can. It’s pricey but on busy days it’s worth every cent - especially if you’re only going the one day and want to maximise your ride time.

If you want to ride X2, put your belongings in a locker before getting in the queue. They only have a limited amount on the station and you will have to wait longer to rent one at times.

The staff don’t manage the ride queues like they do here. For most rides it’s like ‘self serve’. You choose a gate and wait, they don’t tell you which one to go to. And you’ll often see trains go with empty seats here and there. If you’re a single rider and don’t care where you sit, watch out for these!

I’m sure there are other here you can give you more info as I’ve only been the once. But this video helped me. It’s a bit old but still good

The staff were friendly and into the event despite the miserable weather

100% agree. I was surprised at how much they tried to interact with guests - even before getting into the park  And their ‘tests’ to check for contamination were clever too. The music they played was great too (imo anyway) - hard rock and heavy metal 🤘

Now I don’t mean to sound super harsh but it didn’t really feel like a Fright Nights event but more of a park after dark event with a few scare actors roaming around. Perhaps the locals could let me know if the event is in its early years?

The maze was quite good and elaborate but there didn’t seem to be a consistent theme - but maybe I was just put off by the clown that was following me and laughing creepily at times. I also thought that having the maze as an upcharge (not included with entry ticket) is a good idea. I think that should be something for MW to consider if they’re to have such a big maze with such a long wait next year (again, imo). Have the smaller mazes included in entry ticket and then pay and book for the big maze.

Hey! Maybe Adventure World could do fright nights at a different time of year, when it isn't raining?

That didn’t stop the locals from using the water park and slides!! I was nearly dying from the cold (hey, I’m from Brisbane) and there they are running around in swimmers 🤔

Also, they were closed agin today due to the weather and only opening for Fright Nights. Pretty bummed that I didn’t get to go as that’s what I had planned but oh well, can’t change the weather. Provided the customer service guy is true to his word, they will refund me the cost of my day ticket.

    You planning on doing waterslides?

I was thinking about it but if it’s going to be this cold again tomorrow (technically today) then I won’t.

By the way, I totally understand now when you said you leave your stuff on the lawn. You could never do anything like that at any park in QLD.

Hi Amy, @iwerks and myself will be there on Thursday! So @iwerks always has camera equipment so he gets a locker. I personally leave my keys, wallet in my bag which I put next to a tree around the main lawn and I keep my phone on me unless I’m doing water slides. For dry rides you can store lose articles in boxes for every ride.

With waterslides it’s the same but I wouldn't leave phones around water.

Thanks @Tim Dasco!!  When I go to my local parks, I take a mini backpack (you know the Loungefly ones?). Would that require a locker at Adventure World or OK for the ride bins? I had little bit of an issue when I went to SF Discovery Kingdom In 2017 and I’ve been wary of it since.

Apparently pre ticket sales have been strong so could be a busy night. Hope that helps. Have you precooked a maze time?

I certainly have - didn’t want to miss out! I booked 9:45pm. I also bought a fast pass for the night so I can do some rides.

Adventure World does fright nights on Hallowe'en now? Wow. That's groundbreaking compared to the last time they ran a fright nights. Who would have thought doing a scary event during Hallowe'en? ;)

@AlexB I know right? 😀 But Movie World’s Fright Nights are already done for the season so gotta give kudos to Adventure World for knowing when Halloween is.

I’m really interested to know what the ‘contamination zones’ are!

In true Amy fashion, I have decided to do a spur of the moment trip to Perth on Thursday - just to visit Adventure World. I’m also planning on going to their Fright Nights event on Thursday night (tickets already booked 😊).

I’ve never been to Adventure World before let alone Perth, so I was hoping someone might give me some tips eg: do I need a locker or are there storage bins on the rides, etc

I’m super excited about finally getting to visit as I’ve been trying to get there for over a year and a half and it just didn’t happen.

    Thanks in advance!

  8. For me, Fright Nights this year is a big improvement to last year. While the ‘opening’ and ‘closing’ of the night are still the weak points (in my opinion), I’d gladly sacrifice them to have the bigger and better mazes which is what they’ve done.

I attended on the very first night (on the platinum ultimate terror tour) and then again last night (standard utt) and was surprised to see the vast improvement - they’ve figured out where to put the utt guests for the opening, they’re sending through smaller groups at a time in the mazes and spacing them out and the scare actors are really getting into their roles - the zombies are creepy af! Not to mention Herman Shuster and his favourite doll.

I think Movie World are not only listening to the feedback of their guests but also acting on it.  I was very glad to see they brought back the refillable Fright Nights cup this year as well.

Stuck up where exactly??? This makes it sounds like they were stuck up the vertical part of the track.

Two guests said they were about 100m away from the end of the ride after coming down from its peak when they became stuck at the bottom of its incline.

Right. So at the beginning of the tunnel. Been there, done that. One of the best experiences of my life - I even posted about it back in the day when it happened.

I am surprised to read that they didn’t get any communication from the ride ops though. When it happened to me it took quite some time for the ride vehicle to come to a complete stop at the tunnel entrance. The entire time I heard a staff member over speakers saying that ‘there was no cause for alarm,’ ‘our harnesses were still locked,’ ‘the ride wouldn’t launch again’ and that ‘maintenance were on the way’.

  10. I have just checked my emails and have received this from Dreamworld today. They will be ceasing all memberships.

    A17BBE35-4A84-4DDE-BD47-81E20F77F77D.thumb.jpeg.ae0ef26a3343abf625338816ddd9f099.jpeg33464E60-5972-4ED0-9D66-B150A2F4B467.thumb.jpeg.4b4fcb1866d8368bdef44c29577e7251.jpeg

While I’m not surprised by this I am quite sad about it as I don’t think I would buy an annual pass - not really a lot on offer there to justify the price.

  11. I’m at the park today and they have just closed DC Rivals due to technical difficulties. At first they let us wait in the queueing area but have just asked us all to leave and check back later.

Not really sure what the issue was but the train was completely stopping at the final set of brakes and sitting there for a short time instead of continuously moving back to the station.

  12. It’s not really worthy of creating a new topic but I’m at the park today and maintenance had to be called out to the Wipeout. I was on the ride at the time and just as it was starting the gondola must’ve got out of alignment (?) and we just rocked for a couple of minutes. Would’ve taken a maximum of 10 minutes for maintenance to arrive and realign the ride so that we could get off. They just finished testing and been given the green light.

Anyone else find AA unbearably rough when they rode it in the last few weeks?

Perhaps I’m way too complacent but I don’t find AA unbearably rough. It’s definitely seen better days and the harnesses really cinch down on your legs during the ride but it’s still OK.

The only other Vekoma slc I’ve ridden is Kong at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom. Considering it’s 3 years younger, it’s a far worse ride experience. My head and ears copped a battering nearly the entire ride due to its ride restraints.

I was already merging onto the M1 from Smith St by 9:02pm.

Given the “carpark full” signs were up by 6:15 - I imagine there are some poor souls still trying to get out...

I was one of those poor souls. It took us an hour just to get to the M1  -_-

I’ll be remembering your tip for next year!

  15. It had been a very long time since I had visited Aussie World (20+ years!) so I decided to check out their Ride the Night event last night. In the way of rides, I knew it couldn’t compete with anything on the GC, but there were a couple of good attractions on offer.

Gates opened at 5:45pm and I took that opportunity to walk around the park until the rides started at 6pm. I was surprised at how colourful the park was. Yes I’d seen their advertising and web-site but the park looked - and felt - really fresh and vibrant. It also still had some of that ‘carnival/funfair’ feel as there was different music playing at every turn - though the fact there was a local radio station set up there for the night might also have something to do with it.

From 6pm I took on the Redback, Bug Run (counts as a coaster right?), Mayhem Maze, Space Shaker, The Wasp, Voyage Simulator, Mozzie Musta and Professor Bogglesworth’s Illusionarium. Dark Rebel and Ballroom Blitz were closed and they had to close The Plunge as it stopped while going up the lift hill and they had to evacuate the riders off of it. The Ferris Wheel ended up closing early too because of the storm.

The staff all came across friendly and laid-back - although the ride operators seemed very young. There was some live entertainment during the night - a dj, dancing, fire twirling, plus fireworks at 9pm.  There were a couple of staff members roving the park offering glow-in-the-dark body paint as well as one covered in glow-in-the-dark wrist bands that he gave out to guests during the night.

Highlights of the night for me were the Illusionarium as well as the Mayhem Maze. The only way I can describe the Illusionarium is a maze of optical illusions and it was really good and a decent length. The Mayhem Maze was also surprisingly good in that the actors gave good frights!! If it was longer, it could give anything at MW’s Fright Nights a run for its money (IMO).

Overall, what the park delivered on the night (and for a mere $25.50) it smashed my expectations. Not a park I could spend a lot of time in but perhaps that will change with what Aussie World has in plan for its future.

I have a Platinum pass for Dreamworld which expired 31/12/17. Like all passes it has been extended an extra 6 months, but yesterday it would not work to open the turnstiles.

A staff member informed me they had changed to a new style of pass and would print a new one for me.

I was expecting another piece of paper which I would have laminated like the previous one. I was very pleasantly surprised when I was handed a plastic card.

Wait, were the Platinum membership passes at Dreamworld not always printed on a card?

I joined in April 2016 and it was a card. It does have a very small graphic of TRRR on the back tho.

  17. I went to Sea World’s first Carnivale for 2018 tonight and I really enjoyed it. This was my first time attending a Carnivale night and I wasn’t expecting much based on what I’d read from various places. However, I was pleasantly surprised. While I can understand why some would still be disappointed with what’s on offer, IMO the entertainment and aquacolour show was worth the price of admission alone. I got a few pics of the colour show - sorry about the quality but I’m no photographer!
