  1. And now this: http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/wetnwild-and-completely-full-20131221-2zroj.html
  2. That's a good point. The buddy I visited the park with kept commenting how annoying it was carrying the rafts on the WhiteWater tower as the stairs & queuing were so tight and there wasn't enough room. On another note - WnW made an an announcement on their FB page that due to technical probs (currently being worked on) all slides on the family raft tower, and WnW Junior, are closed. They are offering 50% on one-day admission tickets
  3. Posters? That's never good. I hate it when parks stick up homemade laminated signage - so unprofessional! They really, really need proper signs... and soon. I'm also wondering whether it was just a stupid idea to stick so many slides onto each tower. I saw a video of the WnW Syd CEO discussing the fact that they had decided to incorporate lots of slides onto each tower rather than having multiple towers, thereby helping with staffing efficiencies etc. He seemed pretty pleased with himself. But when you see how it's working you gotta wonder whether it was worth it. Surely having an extra tower isn't that much more expensive. Plus it would help make the park look larger too; Wnw Syd looks surprisingly small when you see it in person, despite the reasonable number of rides. It also seems pointless having rides not being used because they aren't as popular (which in the case of Aqua Tube is not justified; it's great). If people know there is a slide not being used, and the park is packed, they will more than likely want to ride - but they need to be able to get to it!
  4. Yeah you are right S.Willie - I had a look at a video of Adventure Cove's river and there are lifeguards everywhere, just like WnW Syd. I suppose that's one thing they have to take into consideration when deciding whether or not to build a large river: cost of all the extra staff.
  5. I have spun this off from the thread talking about 21st Century Fox World being built in Malaysia. The topic of Universal Singapore came up and I mentioned how I had been planning to visit both it and the adjacent Adventure Cove waterpark. I have had a good look at the offering at this waterpark and while it is relatively small-ish, the standard of attractions is impressive. In particular, they have a rather decent lazy river; it certainly blows Wet 'n' Wild Sydney's river out of the water. From the park map below you can see it basically chugs around a large part of the park, through tunnels and various theming elements and past various marine life displays (I bet they don't need a thousand lifeguards to monitor it either). All of the attractions are also surrounded with lush tropical landscaping. It's neat!
  6. Good point (except for Sunway ). My geography is pretty poor. I have been wanting to head to Universal in Singapore for a while... and to the Adventure Cove waterpark
  7. The problem is Boomerang Bay has a requirement for way too many lifeguards. There's like 20 of them when it's up and running. Total overkill for a lazy river. And speaking of Boomerang Bay - has anyone seen the 'Action River' section? Does it actually exist? Does it do anything?
  8. Looks good! And I like the chosen film properties. Promising also to hear there will be a mix of thrill, dark and water rides. Sounds like it might be worth a trip to... Malaysia
  9. It doesn't work on Firefox either. And if I don't do as Gazza suggested and go to 'all rides' (I didn't even see that until Gazza mentioned it), the individual categories totally fail.
  10. Great park - AWFUL WEBSITE. Not only have people had huge problems trying to buy tickets through it - but the navigation & layout is appalling. Is it just me or can nobody else access information on all of the different attractions? When I choose one of the options (Adrenaline, family etc.) all that seems to come up is these giant tiles with the majority of the page cut off. For example, the part about Boomerang Bay only includes the first sentence - I can't scroll down! I sure hope they didn't pay for someone to design it.
  11. Which makes me even more surprised about the $20m price tag. Considering they went with the standard model, I would have expected the total cost would have been much less than attractions like Scooby or Wild West Falls. Although, I suppose if you consider inflation the costs might actually be closer?
  12. Thanks... that flood scene was wicked in its day. *sigh* wonder if we'll ever see a ride of that standard in Australia again. It feels like as time goes on we're getting less ambitious rather than more.
  13. As posted on WnW Sydney's facebook page, all of the weight restrictions are here: http://wetnwildsydney.com.au/plan-my-day.aspx#!ride-restrictions (at the bottom - ride restrictions)
  14. To give Dreamworld credit, Buzzsaw, Dreamworks, and Pandamonium could all be considered major attractions. They're not particularly good attractions (with the exception of Dreamworks, maybe), and not the attractions most of us would have liked Dreamworld to install, but they are still major - particularly by DW standards.
  15. Surely fixing a raft conveyor would be bread and butter stuff for Wet 'n' Wild's maintenance team, with spare parts on standby etc.? Still, credit to them for continuing to run the slides, albeit with unintended rafts. Speaking of which, I wonder how happy Proslide would be with the use of alternative rafts? If the slide was engineered around the use of family rafts, wouldn't a different type change the dynamics significantly? We know waterslides these days are very carefully engineered.
  16. Yeah I was thinking of going again next week but the queues look CRAZY compared to the preview day.
  17. And I completely agree with your opinion. It breaks all the rules of dark rides to have the whole ride completely open and able to be viewed by people not on the ride. Seeing the 'show' repeat for each boat/vehicle ruins the magic. It should all be sectioned off. Quite strange
  18. It's worth cutting your finger on the half pipe. Incredible slide. Took me by surprise.
  19. THIS: Needs signage and better organisation! Split his leg open? Are you serious? How did that happen? More details please.
  20. According to the Parkz database, Lassiter's Lost Mine Ride was only open for 5 years. This made me wonder why Sea World would make such a significant investment only to convert it into another ride in 5 years?
  21. Thanks Julys. Looks like the lazy river is actually flowing in this video, although still no sign of the 'action river'?!
  22. They are getting quite a bit of positive feedback on social media from people who have visited the park. It seems that most of the complaints are coming from people who are still having trouble getting in touch with the customer service team or buying tickets, and also that hideous, non-functioning website. Basically everyone that has visited the park seems to be raving about it, with any previous concerns forgotten. That's what happens when you install decent, proven attractions - people will have fun and forgive most sins.
  23. I intended to take lots of pics but as it was a preview day the park was only open 9-2. We got there around 10 then had to spend 45 minutes trying to sort out myband issues (teething problems). I took a few pics of the entry area and park map board on my phone (which I've sent to Gazza - he might upload soon). But the rest of the time we needed to actually get on the rides (and we still didn't get time to do them all!). My buddy would have killed me if I'd spent ages walking around taking pics. But I do plan to do it on my next full day visit, if someone else hasn't first. In the meantime... I wrote a trip review above giving my thoughts about the park and all the attractions ^.
