Pfft... 90 minutes. Worst i've done would have to be around the 3 1/2 hour mark. That's practically a large portion of the day gone, purely because we had nothing better to do really. It was also funny to note that only one side was working due to one of the cable holders faulting, a problem I told a ride-op about 3 weeks before the peak period. Funny that. But yeah, the tower is designed over time to shake and what not, which is pretty smart considering at some stages it can have around 25 tonne projected against the tower, not to mention the Giant Drop gondolas and wind resistance.

Disney contemplating smaller regional parks...
Slick replied to coasterfreak's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I'm definitely agreeing with Richo on this one here. Already even if they did say 1.5 Billion, that'd be to the value of an entire new Magic Kingdom, not something that Melbourne would be likely to support. However, what everyone's looking at is the current trend of population, bear in mind that even if this park was approved today to be built somewhere up the east coast it still won't be in operation for say another fifteen years minimum, provided it was a small scale park. And contrary to what other people have said, the south east of Queensland currently does hold the biggest increase in population and tourism for next two decades, in fact, it's been considered to increase to well around fifteen million, and that's just the permanant residences, not just the overall flow of tourism. So when I add this up, I see that a)it's not going to be viable right away in a place like Melbourne b)The weater is going to really effect the total outcome of tourist flow in Avalon regardless of what's there c)even if we see a park down south of this nature, no bank or fund is going to support it and d)The only currently strong tourist areas are central Sydney and the Gold Coast. Now tell me, regardless of "team" spirit, would you spend hundreds of dollars to go into a small, probably overcrowded park with rain toppling over you just because the park has the Disney trademark on it? -
Best site to find onrides around Florida would be "http://rollercoasterpro.com" easily. In terms of finding some decent videos, you can't go wrong with either "http://coasterimage.com" and you definitely can't finish off without checking up on "themeparkreview.com".

I think it's extremely obvious to say that if they were taking down the Probe piece by piece, that it would be making a new appearance somewhere else. And I highly doubt that if they were planning to sell it, which they were, they wouldn't have left it to detiriorate. Not many parks find a "rustic feel" a good quality. Also, I would've presumed that when ING signed the contract to the land there most probably would've been conditions outlining that on site attractions may stay on the premises until an "X" amount of time. However, the biggest problem should be if we actually see the ride re-appearing, whether that be in a CEO's backyard or a theme park is yet to be seen. I don't know who this ronald guy is, but judging by the posts made in this thread, he really did have the last laugh. He has photos, and all you guys have is "ohh, come on, please?"

It's still very early to be making any exterior themeing calls. Look at it this way, The Claw took approximately four months to build, so considering they've still got another two months to do themeing, especially since the track components are done, expect something seriously good.

Well show us then.

You're basically dead on there Jimbo. The general public, the very, "very" general public see either the "processor" and "memory" as the two key things to a good computer. Thing is, few of the general public know that you have "random access memory" and you have hard drive space. So when corporations like Dell take that sort of thin into proportion, all they need to do is slap on some big numbers and they're set. But then when your video card, RAM clock speed, hard drive latency and CPU's bus side frequency are all much slower seeming the entire computer budget was spent on this huge CPU, in the end your entier computer becomes laggy, creating kind of a ironic kick for consumers. Again, like Jim here said, go make your own PC, or if your not that tech savvy, get a place like "The Disc Shop" or "GameDude" do make one for you. I bought all my parts just on a year ago now, and because I chose my parts carefully, no lag, still top of the line (almost) and it still kicks arse at rendering videos.

Hmm... well there you go. Yeah last time I saw the Robotic arm coaster was in this year's or last year's IAAPA, and it was only on say 20m worth of track tops. Just for those interested, it's basically a deritive of the original "robot coaster" like the ones from Lego Land, in fact it is the same manufacturer etc., however, the plans for the new ride is to develop it into some sort of revolutionary new coaster. How that fans out for capacity is another thing in its own however.

You know what would be a really smart idea for those down at Atari, is to make a box set edition with both add-ons on the one DVD. Make people pay a little over the normal price or whatever amount to have all three cds and just combine it all onto the one DVD so people don't have to spend half an hour installing RCT3, it's just basically done when you finished installing. But hey, it's Atari, let's not get carried away with fancy ideas...

lil' monster, For those of us on this site, such as myself, who have heard about Dreamworld's new thrill ride but don't want our balls busted, rather than just me plane coming out and saying what it is, click here to see some search results from these forums. That took me thirty seconds to do by the way.

"...G'day kids! Time to ride the new Industrial Estate Space Probe! Standing at well over 30 metres, it's the best half working ride in the southern hemisphere!" Need I say more? Okay. I think it's rather rediculous halfway through moving a ride they'll go "oh hey, let's put it back up and theme it regardless of what loss of revenue or loss of land we'll experience. Seriously, ING isn't stupid.

People, just because is over 100 words doesn't make it worthless. Like I said earlier, Dreamworld will be making a press release about the next release relatively soon, so relax. And I hardly call two new needed attractions in "I dunno how long now!" a very fast rate. I'd expect to probably see another small blank spot in attractions, although I'm most probably wrong. And if you've heard all the rumours about the next attraction at Dreamworld this thing will make atleast Lethal Weapon look like Reptar. Small, rough, and just another Vekoma.
-
Ohhh, come on, seriously... It's been said hundreds and hundreds of times, the market doesn't revolve around thrills. And if you removed half of the lands you guys mentioned, there would only be half a park anyway. It's like saying "if you removed all the kids and family attractions, there would only be thrills, which makes for a crap park." Yeah right. Makes perfect sense. You've just started your basic maths, 3-2=1. Now, the first answer to your question is that Dreamworld own a large portion of the market anyway not to worry about Superman at this current time thanks to Wiggles World, and besides, they're making an official release about their next thrill ride ccome December anyway, so relax kids. Like I've said earlier also, Dreamworld is an engaging more than two day adventure for families, however in terms of thrills the park is lacking, how morally sexy they look in their current advertising campaigns, which I take my hat off to, which is fairly just seeming they've won best advertising campaign for a tourist destination in Australia for what... three years now?

Joz, is that why Ian limps everywhere he goes these days?

Seriously, Jags and Ripcurlboy here were the very first people to drop a line into the ING representatives to ask for some remains of the Bush Beast before the metaphorical flood gates opened, and when you spend so much time and devotion onto a hobby or passion, why the hell wouldn't you want something to remember it by? When a mate moves away do you just tell him to bugger off, good riddance? Well, provided you're not a creep, of course not. I'd sure as hell get some photos of the good times, is there nothing wrong with remembering what seriously great times you've had? And then Jags and ripcurlboy go out of their way to let you guys know that they've been told ING can't take anymore requests, and you guys kick up a little hissy? I'm sorry, who's the sad ones? And ontop of that, can you think of the poor reps at ING having to handle a truckload of emails about people who want Bush Beast parts? Are you guys just angy because your email got rejected? Well, anyhoo, Jags, it was still nice to send the rep. some chocolates and a card for her troubles. Everyone else, take note.

Uhh... Paul, Dreamworld typically holds a media launch for any new major attraction, and Thursday was considered the official launch, and on top of that, I was there with Richard when he took the photos, so your post is quite void.

I'd just like to point out on soemthing with the whole "18+", seriously mate, you're way over your head on that one. 1)They actually banned liquor from night events especially when a few "bad examples of things going wrong" occured on Fright Night last year. 2)Did you know that well over 50% of people at Screamworld were actually local teenagers? Guess not, however I do agree that the whole night was kind of like a school yard type affair where guest relations basically yelled at people to get them round, not that it wasn't midly funny, just unprofessional. Yeah, it's funny to note "dreamworld_rulz" why you think the lines started getting big at eight at night. You think that people come in at like ten to eight going "I spent thirty bucks on this ticket just so I can go on some rides for less than two hours?!" I think not.

Hey, if he wants to give Dreamworld the extra money let him give them the extra money... Yeah, I'd definitely agree with rappa and richo on this one in saying it's definitely a two day experience, however it does depend on what type of guest you are. In terms of thrills, spills, and puking, Dreamworld, provided you're doing it on a "below average guest capacity" day, you'll most definitely get your bang for buck if you get a single day pass, however, like Richo said, if you're there to have a good time and really soak in whatever remaining atmosphere hasn't been yet soaked up, then I'd definitely say Dreamworld would be virging into the three day mark. Just a couple of days ago I hit the parks with both mates and Richo and the kiddies, and even then with the launch of Wiggles world I didn't do everything that I could be stuffed doing. And to put things into perspective, I remember being ten or so at some stage, well before I became the thrill obsessed nut-job I am, and hitting Disneyland for well over five days in a row with my family as we really weren't in a hurry to get everything done. That having been said, we still didn't get to do everything that was on offer. So, thrills, and serious entertainment, you'd have a great time for two days, and if you're there purely to just sit back, relax and trully take in what Dreamworld is, take three to be safe.

For those who want to know exactly how it works, here's how... Basically they're what we call "alloy pins" which are in hundreds of sets, and prior to the launch, they drop down so the train can pass the launch track. As soon as the train has left however, the pins pop back up again, so if a rollback occurs, the earth magnets on the train will interact with the alloy pins, causing the "leviathan" effect (I think it's that one, that is) causing the train to slow down, which is the same for Tower of Terror's e-brake, Giant Drop, Xcelerator, TTD.... and even Superman's braking section, except the alloy strips will be permanantly mounted, they will not drop, for obvious reasons. Oh, and as for actually being in heaps of TOT e-brakes, let me tell you it's always heaps of fun...

It all depends on preference really. If you're wanting to head down every weekend or so and just hang out and have some fun, definitely Dreamworld. However, if you're wanting to head down once a month for an escape from the grind, Movie World is where to go for sure. However remember that MovieWorld does have a somewhat smaller attraction ratio compared to Dreamworld, however their rides are of a much higher quality. Also, in my opinion the price of the card shouldn't be a factor as it would be like saying "Disneyland's passes are too expensive, so i'll just go to SFMM instead".

I've seen the show many times, and I can tell you know it's definitely worth it. It's typically on around 4:00-4:30pm daily, and it's located inside the Tiger Island shaded area. It's really amazing to just to watch one of those "PUMAS" jump on the spot to grab a plush tiger over two metres in the air... now that's dedication.

The dirt being literally just "dumped" onto the Thunderbolt site are from the Wiggles World site, where dirt was excavated for the building closest to the Tower of Terror, and for Captain Feathersword's Pirate ship, which apparently will sit half of the water somewhat and half on shore. If you go to Dreamworld at the moment you will notice that land in the Wiggles World area is very flat, and that the buildings in the area have either been demolished and replaced with larger buildings or expanded to suit some of the very interesting attractions that everyone will be uhh.... "bobbing" along to.

I know this post may have a possibility of getting deleted, but the site that I own will have some large photos to download, however, this may be considered as advertising, but still, as a Dreamworld enthusiast you can rest assured if you want a photo of absolutely anything, just give me a PM.

What do YOU want in replacement of the Thunderbolt?
Slick replied to OzCoasterFreek's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Cheers DJrappa, good to see your Sea World video on TPR, great stuff there. I'll agree with you taronga provided you're talking about Dreamworld's Northbound section i.e. The Claw onwards. As for the Claw's positioning, I think it was a bit stupid, especiall when you have a dead zone in Nick Central less than ten metres that could've been used to either place The Claw further back in an unobtrusive position for passing guests or either house a better queueing area. And as for Ocean Parade, it's just rediculous for me really. For me, I see Ocean Parade as beaches, water, waves, waterfalls etc. however all i'm seeing is a small shallow pool around Wipeout and some shrubbery plus a few fish on poles. Ontop of that, the positioning of rides is just atrocious for someone who wants to specifically get from one place to another. And personally the current TOT area is just deplorable, and it's going to get worse. Kids wanting to get from Nick to Wiggles will not only have to pass one major attraction which is very loud these days but they'll have to pass atleast one major smoking area. Good work Dreamworld. The easiest idea would be to get rid of CatDog's Snack Shack's and Main Cafe's "semi dirt/storage area" and place it into front of house. From there we have a large space of land where you can place the Skull, extension pathways and suitable themeing without crossing the railway, becoming obtrusive to any connecting areas, and when the time comes to update the area to a more suitable themeing idea it'll work perfectally given it can have it's own sub area in a 15mX30m square. It'll be like the old Tower of Terror but in an enclosed space. But yeah, back to the main point. Dreamworld does need to draw guests away from Ocean Parade into the Southbound and eastbound parts of the park, and that will be planned in the next decade. **Wink wink. But as for this waterpark, it will be a seperate entrance fee exactly like Hurricane Harbour and SFMM, which is a bit low considering somebody like Disneyland wouldn't do something like that, however, seeming the waterpark will extrude onto the carpark (apparently) the entire car park region will have a new area of parking just south of the current parking area, slowly moving the emphasis down the park into it's new attractions area. Wait and see kiddies, as Stephen Gregg said himself, "Dreamworld will be the Disneyland of thrills...." or something like that. -
What do YOU want in replacement of the Thunderbolt?
Slick replied to OzCoasterFreek's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Where do you get your information from? It's as if you can't put anything anywhere else apart from where it's been "RUMOURED" to have been said it was going to go. But just to prove my validation, let's look at this step by step... 1) The Thunderbolt's main reason as to its noise problems and infact what lead to its demise was the disregard for track maintenance. In the final six months of the Thunderbolt remaining open before it was put up for sale (which no one bought so it was scrapped, which we all know by now) it was clearly evident that the track had not only had patches were the the steel had become wafer thing, but even most of the connecting joints to the catwalk were only have welded on or not at all. Then there was train maintenance, but I just won't go there. But even so, not all roller-coasters are like this "Magpie...whatever your name is". Just look at Alton Towers. They have proved that even large scale roller-coasters such as Nemesis can not only be hidden but quiet as a mouse. 2) And I guess if they put the coaster anywhere else the themeing for a large open space would change dramatically, especially since we have... how many hectares northbound of Dreamworld being prepared. And what's the go with this "build it through Blue Lagoon" idea. If you knew anything about the engineering of the mountain, it's basically designed for waterslides, and for the price for an artificial building like that to be re-designed, you may as well go out and buy a better one tailored to the needs for half the price. Oh, by the way, Krakatoa's just the name of one of the slides. Example: You wouldn't theme the Thunderbolt to a thundering bolt's, it's just the nature of the ride that gives it that name. 3)Just because they might build a roller-coaster in the southbound half of Dreamworld, doesn't mean they just can't have to stop a waterpark. Considering Dreamworld's land south of Tiger Island is almost as much as the area between BB and the ampitheartre, there's plenty of space to fit both our water park and special new roller-coaster in. And even if they overlap, why does that need to matter? Hundreds of coasters go over pathways, water parks, other attractions... you name it. Daemon, Montu, Kumba, Top Thrill Dragster.... hello? Just because our Australian Thrill ride industry is slightly lacking doesn't mean it hasn't been done before. However I do agree with you with the whole "rocky hollow area going untouched" idea. However, considering further attractions will be going into that site once BB and Blue Lagoon have finished up, there'll be plenty of ideas that can be put in there. A couple of last notes on the matter... Yes Gazza, there's plenty of room for over the storage area. Infact, contrary to what it looks like, the water level only rises around a metre more when the rides are emptied. That being said, there's several metres of space above the water that just looks like it's supposed some mega mammoth amount of water, so yeah, knock yourself out with station ideas there. And one final thing, the reason why Blue Lagoon wasn't considered to be expanded instead of building a whole new park was that the southbound water connections and plumbing system for Dreamworld's Southbound half is already capped with Thunder River Rapids, Log Flume, BL and AWE, so building it northbound was the only choice given the water flow up that end is much more easy to tap into. And hey, would you want to spend millions upon millions closing several attractions just to upgrade the water system to expand Blue Lagoon?
