  1. I'd like to congratulate and thank Richard for all his hard work and effort, which has really paid off. This is an absolutely fantastic site. When I first found this site in a google search about halfway through last year, I thought it was really cool. I stumbled upon it again in about September and joined as a member. It was great to finally find people that actually enjoyed theme parks like I do. Not just the rides, but all about things like theming, how the rides work, when new rides were opening and all that jazz (hope that didn't sound too nerdish .) So I'd just like to thank the great community here as well. Happy Birthday R-C.com.au, keep up the good work Richard.
  2. You have a point there, DC, but I'd say quite a large part of the ride's success would be based on the actual thrill/enjoyment of the ride itself, rather than what movie it is based on.
  3. From memory there is actually accomodation at the end of Dreamworld Parkway or close-by on the Pacific Motorway, not far from DW at all... Anyway, back on topic. I wonder what kind of things we can expect from these "Nickelodeon Resorts." I mean, will it just be a resort with lots of posters of Nick characters everywhere, or somy crazy architecture to make it fun for kids e.g. secret passageways, slides etc, or something else?
  4. He didn't say you were 10, he was saying that you were using a comeback that a ten year old would use.
  5. If I had a genie....LPS wouldn't still be the smelly, expensive collection of carny rides that it still is. LPS isn't too bad I guess it's just that, personally, I don't partcularly like most carnivals/fairs or the majority of the rides that they provide. Just IMO i think that carnivals have expensive food which usually ain't that spectacular, the rides are nothing to write home about and usually consist of spinning...pretty much just continual spinning without much point/thrill, you have to pay for seperate rides even after the hefty entrance fee, and lacks the theming and special feeling which a theme park provides. This is pretty much the Easter Show all over, which is why I don't particularly enjoy that either. I guess I've kinda been spoiled by being to some great theme parks and been on some great rides which could only be in a theme park. Sorry I went a bit off topic there...just explaining my opinion so I'm not going to be bombarded by people with comebacks. Once again, It's just my opinion...
  6. WWW cost $60 million. Though this may sound like alot of money (and it is) if you put it in perspective compared to other attractions/parks, it's not that much. For example, Superman ESCAPE at MW cost $16 million, which is more than a quarter of the cost of opening WWW. Considering that there's been half a year of nil activity, removal of the queue area/carts and no signs of construction/maintenance, I'd say that the chances are slimmer than slim of it returning. Don't get me wrong, it could happen, but when the chances are that slim... By 'natural' areas, I'm assuming you're reffering to bushland, marshland or some flora-related subject. If this is what you are reffering to; Dreamworld doesn't need to maintain these areas much at all, as it is living flora which takes care of itself, most of the time. I see what you're getting at, and yes there have been numerous replacements of attractions at MW, but think about LW, the Looney Toones River Ride and the Police Academy Stunt Show, all of which opened at the same time as the park, except, LW, which followed not too far behind at all. These rides and others are older than mnay of Dreamworld's attractions such as; the claw, GD, TOT, Nick Central and flowrider.
  7. I know the issue here isn't MW vs. DW, but I'm going to use MW as a comparison, here. You enter MW and see the Fountain of Fame. You can instantly feel the magic in the park. Walking through the various themed sections of the park you feel like you are actually in the Wild West or Chinatown. The amount of detail in theming in MW can only come from the dedication, experience and the 'passion' which has been mentioned from those at WVTP. Even sitting at the tables across from Santa Fe Sundaes, there are old western movie posters posted on the walls, an example of how much detail MW puts into their theming. I find that really the only place that matches this description in Dreamworld is Gold Rush Country and Rivertown before it was drowned by Wiggles World (don't get me wrong Wiggles World is a good idea and very inventive, but sticks out like a sore thumb from it's surroundings.) Dreamworld keeps introducing certain things to the park that just disrupt the overall flow of things. Take for example the rock climbing wallin ocean parade. I don't know about you, but I'm not paying $6 to climb 4 metres up a wall. The flowrider and coin operated r/c boats and cars are other examples of how Dreamworld seems to be slowly phasing out the whole idea of only paying for admission. As has already been pointed out in the thread, one of the most classic DW attractions, the railway, is being allocated very little maintenance. Articles such as "Dreamworld attendance down, annual revenue up' is evidence of how Dreamworld seems to be focusing more on maximising profits. The fact that the TOT only climbs two thirds of the tower shows how DW is trying to save electricity. Are they doing this for the environment...or is it to save money? Now I know what I've said is probably going to be slammed by many people, and in several cases of what I have said may be wrong. If I am wrong, or you think my opin ion is wrong, please tell me why you think this...but please, be nice . And I hope that if there is a DW representative on the forums that reads this, that they see it as constructive criticism, not an all out war against DW. It's just my opinion.
  8. The idea of a Western Show sounds good to me. Yet the idea of another shrek-related show in the park sounds a bit...tedious.
  9. When I went to Dreamworld a few weeks ago, the ride area showed absolutey no signs that any means of construction/demolition, or any human presence inside. Not a noise at all. Removal of the queue area is a strong indication that, if by some slim chance it does re-open, it won't be anytime soon. I agree. And besides, the entire ride wouldn't have to be demolished if it wasn't re-opening, unless Dreamworld wanted to put something else there. The theming of the ride fits in with Gold Rush Country. I feel that River Rapids and Log ride should be left the way it is, IMO. They are good, fun family rides, which are well themed if you really think about it. The log ride may be tame, but just remember, many families go on this ride, which means many young children will be riding. There is only so much they can handle.
  10. I'm glad to see the Matrix Exhibit go...It's well past its time. And in response to people's views on the movie, Happy Feet, personally it was not as good as I was expecting it to be. The CGI was absolutely fantastic, and the voices, and I'm glad to see that an Australian movie was so successful. But the plot of the movie I found to be quite confusing, baffling and in some scenes it seemed that the scriptwriters got tired and hired chimps to take over for them. But that's just my personal opinion, please, don't anyone take offense and become angry at me. As for the space that is now available, I would like to see the Wild West themed area of the park expand, as it has stayed relatively the same since it's opening. I love spending time in this area of the park, mostly due to the wonderful theming which MW has done, which has created a wonderful atmosphere of actually being in the Wild West. I'm not quite sur what they could transform it into, but I'm sure the creative people at WVTp can think of something...
  11. I just heard today that Maynia is officially cancelled. The organisers, Empire Events, wren't happy with the noise modelling plans that the Gold Coast City Council’s administration of the Environmental Protection Act. Empire Events Managing Director, Alex Prelac said “we feel most for the thousands of fans who have purchased their tickets who won’t get to witness their favourite artists in one of the most unique venue settings in Australia.” I'm guessing that Dreamworld will give a refund to those who purchased tickets.
  12. This may seem comfortable, but this is where your neck is exposed to the extent that it can be dangerous. Usually you should do whatever the ride ops tell you to do. You might not like it, but they have been trained to put your safety as the first priority.
  13. I think this would be great. After all, Warner Bros. has been so vital to the film industry; with the invention of the vitaphone, which allowed "talking pictures" and also brought colour to films. Although this would be great, it is a theme park and people wil probably want to do something more thrilling or exciting, especially younger people and families on holidays. What T-Bone has suggested below is a great idea of how the could replace PA. Although, I would not like to see it go in the first place, since it is one of the only 2 attractions remaining from the park's intial open, one of the longest running stunt shows with almost 17000 shows performed- and it's hilarious!
  14. Wow, Gazza, you sure made the park realistic.
  15. Yeah it doesn't work without expansion...it just comes up with a barren terrain.
  16. Can we still play it without the Soaked! scenery, or do we need Soaked! to actually play it?
  17. I'd say that by October the park will probably be more recognised.
  18. If they will be closing Vintage Cars down, do you think that they will be closing TOT down for a period too?
  19. Well, it's a great concept, but i harldy think WBMW i sgoing to move the whole Looney Tunes Village a couple of metres to behind Police Academy. It's not as simple as picking it up and dropping it where you want.
  20. Thank you Gazza. But as a matter of fact I had already decided to go for a World Pass...but hey, since I'm a member on a theme park website, I thought I might be appropriate to ask around and see if I had chosen correctly or see if there was a better offer. But thank you for answering my question.
  21. So anyone planning to go to WWW in the near future - go now! Full Article: http://www.whitewaterworld.com.au/content/...WW_LatestNews#1
  22. This is from the last paragraph of the History section of the Dreamworld article. Assuming that there are no other upcoming attractions (and assuming the information is accurate) this confirms that the ride will open in december (if on schedule).
