Sorry can you post for me where it says that in the rules? It's a discussion, and my opinion in this discussion is i'm giving them a pass on the lack of maze spend because their effort is being put in elsewhere this year. Now where did I say they've reduced spending on the event? Now who has things back to front? To repeat and expand, from what i've heard, the effort is going into other elements of the event instead of spending it on a new IP. They are also building 3 new rollercoasters, which may play a factor in their budget positions also - but i've not heard nor suggested that they have a smaller FN budget this year Oh i'm aware of this. However that doesn't give them a pass for a lacklustre effort in putting the event on - they have to reinvest in things and keep standards up or people are going to demand refunds, splatter them all over the press, etc... If they drop standards and expect people to keep coming, they're going to lose eventually - as I mentioned previously:

Gotham City Cafe is no more on Main Street than Dirty Harry Bar or Scooby Doo. No I didn't. What I did notice is that the closest 'all season' operating food outlet (Dirty Harry Bar) is 162m from RB Outfitters, and there isn't another retail store for 212m (HWSD main st store) After you pass the skill games, outside of peak season you're walking past nothing for more than 100m to get to west. Now just to put that distance into perspective - 100 metres is approximately: the entire length of the main street roof, from daily planet to the WB department store including multiple food outlets, retail shops, entrance to an arena show and a cinema attraction. From the fountain of stars to the entrance for the Land of Oz (past two other attractions) From the fountain of stars to the entrance for DC Rivals (past 3 other attractions) From the daily planet to the carousel (past several retail outlets and a sometimes operating restaurant For the most part, the length of the carpark (measured gate to exit road direction) My point is the western area past the skill games is mostly dead space. In peak season west burgers and the small food outlet open up, but that's still a solid 70 metres of absolutely nothing. They need something in that space - even a waterwheel being fed from an overhead "watertrough" would give the area some kinetics or beauty to admire as you make the trek back there. The whole area feels abandoned (and not in a 'it's themed this way' kinda way). The area worked when Boot Hill was beside Scooby. Blazing saddles -albeit a little cheesy - formed part of the land and there was a level of cohesiveness to the whole thing. As an area, you had an arcade, a 'rest area', at least two food outlets, entrance to a stage show - and much as I hate to say it - the timeshare people. Doomsday took away the arcade, the rest area, the stage show entrance.. the timeshare people left (thankfully) and the food outlets rarely open outside of peak - and so we're left with.... not much. As for Scooby - it's closed, and has been for some time. In winter there is no reason to turn left at the top of main street, so you might as well consider it gone, until it comes back. I'm not suggesting the same will happen - but I still keep in the back of my mind the fact that two years ago the COO of the company assured us Monorail wasn't going anywhere and now we have a big VC announcing just that. I've every confidence Scooby is coming back up next year, but until it opens, there's always the possibility it doesn't. Are you suggesting that I am not?

I didn't know there was a monorail track at Wild West Falls. He asked about track, not train. (And the answer is it'll go into building rubble \ concrete recycling) the other train is still parked at Mid station i believe, but that was the fate of the first one.

Do you know what a movie set is? This is at Universal Studios Hollywood: Do you know what is less than five metres to the right of it? The Psycho house. Do you know what's right around the corner? That's the plus side of a 'movie park' - everything is a film set, so nothing has to be real. it's only "what the camera sees" in the shot. You're going "behind the scenes!" There is nowhere in this area that you can fit a restaurant. So, no batman store? No looney tunes store? Does Rick's Cafe get to stay, given it's themed to a specific movie? This area is already pretty authentically themed - with the film set lights overhead, and sets from Dirty Harry to Gotham to Spooky Island. The doomsday area has got to go and it will in time, but the games aren't likely to go while they're still making money. I think labelling this whole area up to hollywood is overly restrictive if they want to try doing something else with it, and the whole 'backlot film set' theme they've got through most of the park works well enough. Wild west is largely underutilised and takes up way too much space for a single attraction. Western town needs life - a themed retail store, midway or some other activity CLOSER to the ride would bring the area to life and make it useful again.

We know the mazes are mostly left in place from year to year, so the cost of re-running an established maze is close to nil. even a non-ip maze requires concept, development, construction, etc. it's cheaper to rerun the same thing, obviously. Nope.
-
I appreciate your speculative approach and while your other theories aren't far off being plausible, this particular one is flat out insane. The First Aid gates have no overhead restriction and are double wide to accommodate floats. The western town gates are not much bigger than your average residential garage door (albeit a little bit higher). It's also an awkward turnaround to get to doomsday - and if they're taking the "easy" path - big gates allow all sizes of vehicles through, but potentially losing access to what - a few skill games? they could temporarily set them up in tents in Main Street if the revenue loss was a big deal - it's far easier to do that than to bring them in the western gate. Looking at this street view though poses another possibility... Besides West, what else is behind the west sign? SHOWCASE. What if whatever they're doing in Showcase requires vehicle access that is too large for the western gates?

You are allowed to have an opinion - just as I am. You stated that "They (Sea World) ended their thrill era in the mid 2010s" and the demolition of Sea Viper is when it "died" (though notably you didn't state it as opinion at that time, you stated it as if it were fact). I disagreed and offered support for my position. End of story. As for whether SW will install an inverting coaster in the next few years, probably not, and that was not Spotty's position either - there were several attractions he suggested needed to come first, and then a coaster, possibly with inversions. All of those are good suggestions, and they are all possible. However, I find the suggestion that inversions don't fit the park preposterous, and the argument that inversions belong in MW because the park doesn't have many inversions (when SW currently has none) even more preposterous. Have a good weekend. There is no doubt that Movie World's lineup for kids is in dire need of an upgrade, but they don't need to give over more space to kids attractions - they need to improve the current offering. They still have an opening day attraction operating more than 30 years later, and much of what is on offer is poor, old, tired, and not suited to a wider audience. Retire the cages, the train, speedy cars and the Taz rest stop space (parents room \ sensory space needs a better facility in a better location anyway) and redo the entire land with new, themed attractions. And at the risk of sounding like a broken record - the park needs to sort out their maintenance and storage requirements to a better, new facility and give back the other half of the LTRR showstage building. Doomsday and the Western Showstage need something new - preferably the stage returns to being used as one, and Doomsday can be repurposed into a new family or adult level flat ride (or several flat rides depending on the size). I think it's a difficult argument to say a land made up of 3 coasters - even 3 targeted at families - is a kids land - i think wicked witches and flying monkeys and tornadoes aren't going to appeal to the same demographic that are riding sam train and tweety cages and WOZ skews older, but I still agree, WB Kids needs a refresh rather than taking over another area for another kids attraction.

Just on this point - they don't normally have updated imagery until they've finished interviews and done their TVC shoots and such - we haven't heard calls for any of that yet, so there may be updated images and TVC spots once this year's crew are onboard. From what i've heard, mazes are largely unchanged, but the effort is going into other elements of the event. Considering they're in the midst of constructing 3 new rollercoasters and an entirely immersive themed land, i'm gonna cut them a break on a big IP maze spend this year. I've been saying for years now that people are complaining about the standards dropping, but still paying money to go - the problem is as long as the money keeps rolling in, they're not going to stop cutting the standards because those who are paying them are still sending the strongest message that it's ok by giving them your money. If you don't like what you've seen - don't buy a ticket. don't go. A drop in ticket sales is the only thing that they're going to notice.

I don't remember that being the reason for road runner, but I doubt it - West had a sign change around the same time as road runner, and it was converted to the 2D signwriter's (digital printer) steel. If the insurance issue were raised, they'd have done away with it at the same time.

Ok, let me use colours (we're not American). You noted Jet Rescue was potentially closed for one of the spooky nights dates. That is tangential but relevant to the topic. How did that transition into the number of days Leviathan is closed for, when leviathan doesn't impact spooky nights event dates, and what relevance does Leviathan have to the spooky night topic?
-
it's possible, but it is bordered by the toilet block and the outlet, not sure what there is to gain there.
-
I've got a few theories from the boring and mundane to the wild and fantastical. it all boils down to one of two reasons - either: the wooden poles the sign was mounted on were end of life in some way and they didn't want to replace them (they've stood for over a quarter of a century - but wooden utility poles should be expected to last 40-50 years), or they needed vehicle access. However given the gates in western town just behind the sign, if that's the reason, i'm wondering why they didn't go through there?
-
Wait - let me get this straight... You think that unplanned downtime and late opening (which is also unplanned) as well as delays in completing maintenance (which is also unplanned) is more than was planned? Also just in - Red apples are not Green. You're absolutely right - this is more general maintenance related and has absolutely nothing to do with the topic you've posted it in.
-
They've finished the ground where it was taken from. if it were some sort of temporary situation where the poles were getting replaced or something like that, you'd presume they'd put a temporary cap over it - like a steel plate, or fence it off with temporary fencing while leaving a pathway through the middle. the fact that they've sealed the holes suggests its permanent, and the bodgy job shows their contempt for the park as a whole.
-
Of course - I mean, you want them all open over christmas break, right?
-
Jaggs Journeys has posted a movie world update on instagram - the Wild West Falls sign has been completely removed. Sad to see the vultures go (i'll miss their christmas hats) - I wonder why it's gone? Not Jagg's photo - photo is credited to @_zac.gibson

I think you've misjudged the park's lineup entirely. While the park's attractions are more than 50% targeted at children that does not make them 'family' attractions. They skew younger, so little kids are well suited to them, Adults can ride them for the most part (albeit somewhat uncomfortably in some cases) but they aren't family attractions at all. (In fact I recall a discussion on the forums here a few years ago where adult enthusiasts were being lambasted for riding Spongebob's Boating School without an accompanying child to ride with). Outside of Nickelodeon, Battle Boats is the only attraction in the park without minimums that the whole family can enjoy. Trident is next at 105cm and storm at 110cm. What is truly laughable though is an attraction like Vortex at 140cm minimum height. Sure the animal attractions mean there is more for the whole family to experience without inhaling burnt rubber (i'm looking at you HWSD), but to dismiss a mid-level coaster with potentially some small or low impact inversions suitable for the family on the basis that the park skews towards families is, to me, wild. To be clear, nobody is saying a new coaster should be the headliner. Levi will hold onto that title for sheer presence from any position across the park - and I think our minds have come closer to agreeing with Cheetah Hunt as a suggestion. You're the one that introduced 'high thrills' as a criteria here. Spotty suggested a coaster with inversions. I agreed with him and even said that inversions =\= thrills. Fact check - Corkscrew is the only inverting coaster they've ever had. The only other coaster the park ever had was Thrillseeker, which travels the show circuit as 'Taipan' though I haven't seen it in a few years I did hear recently it was on the move - i'm sure someone here will know more though) At this point you're just parroting the facts i've already provided without anything new and spinning it differently. The "Thrill Era of Sea World" isn't dead. Jet Rescue was arguably (IMO) a more thrilling attraction than Corkscrew was because of the riding position and launch out of the station (the park calls it "Max Thrill" on their website). Storm was also intended to be a themed thrilling attraction (also 'Max Thrill' on the website). All three coasters operated simultaneously, albeit for the briefest period. Since Storm Coaster opened in 2013, the only "adult" level attractions Sea World has built has been the three attractions in New Atlantis, all of which have a minimum solo rider height of 140cm, two of which are described as 'Thrill Rides' on the park's website (one family thrill, one max thrill).

You were though. What's your point? it was built in the 80s, but it was still operating (as Sea Viper) in 2014 - which is only 10 years ago. You know what's older than that? Storm Coaster. And Jet Rescue. The three coasters from World Expo '88 in Brisbane are still operating, and they came only 6 years after Corkscrew... If they build the suggested coaster in the 5 year timeframe Spotty gave would still only see 2 new coasters in a 15 year period. In just over half that time (8 years), Movie World will have built 4, with 3 years to spare (2017-2024, DCR, FSF, FoWW and KT).

While it wasn't the first park on the coast with inversions (Dreamworld opened Thunderbolt in March 1982), Sea World one-upped by having the first 'triple inversion' coaster with Corkscrew, so I don't think it's that cut-and-dry to say what park should have inversions. Rivals is arguably the most thrilling coaster on the GC (cue debate from other camps, but remember I said "arguably") - and it has no inversions. The point is that inversions do not necessarily equal "thrills". I agree with Spotty, I'd like to see a different style coaster in SW later down the track, and inversions wouldn't hurt. 😕 As for MW - there is no way they're taking Doomsday, Showstage and part of west to build a steel inverting coaster. That area would rock if you put in a woodie, but the space is so much better utilised for various applications, rather than solely given over to yet another coaster the park really doesn't need.

That's an awful lot of words to say you made it all up in your head. "Massive Pyramid Temples" could be ascribed to South America, or Africa... or even - *gasp* - Australia. Yes, Australia also has an archaeological pyramid site too - once thought to be work of Egyptians, Mayans, Phoenicians, Chinese, or even - Aliens... (maybe Bermuda had merit after all) The tasman company could be because they're FROM the tasman region, but remember that the Tasman Sea (and Tasmania) were derived from a dutch explorer. You've jumped to the jungle being aussie rainforest, despite the fact it's not a rainforest, plus the origins of the name Murrisippi (coined by John Longhurst after visiting Disneyland) could just as easily lean towards the Mississippi River rather than the Murray River and be located somewhere in the Louisiana Bayous? It's not a fucking history lesson, nor is it a geography one. It's entertainment. They don't have to be period and location accurate. Just because it doesn't fit your narrative, doesn't mean they haven't had attention to detail or anything else you care to complain about. For once we're getting something that's actually THEMED and we can SEE the level of DETAIL in the THEMING elements before CONSTRUCTION is even FINISHED and instead of talking about how COOL the ROCKWORK looks or how TWISTY the track elements are or how FUN the MULTIMILLION DOLLAR ROLLERCOASTER looks - you're going to whinge about AI involvement (again) and by extension seek to rubbish all other elements of the design scope from the comfort of your Kmart gamers chair by the glow of your ANKO brand LED strip lighting. These guys are paid to do this. You aren't. There's probably a reason why that is.

Brisbane Wheel is just over 50m diameter, and the footing requires around a 25x25m pad Melbourne Southern Star Observation Wheel is around 110m diameter, footing goes about 55m wide, not sure on the overall footprint though as the supports dont appear to be symmetrical... The castle space could absolutely accommodate a wheel, though the size would have to be carefully considered as its not super straightforward - the widest clearance (the diameter of the wheel) required is only halfway up the wheel, so you can potentially build over top of some other facilities or attractions. The castle space is also elevated from it's surrounds, so it's already clear of almost every nearby obstacle that you could probably fit a Southern Star sized wheel in easily, giving more spacious cabins than what Brisbane offers. While the footprint is not big enough for what is in Melbourne, the majority of the footprint is open space, with a support column near the corners - this could easily be worked around the existing pathways in Sea World without much impact or redirection. Personally I think it would be best in an East-West orientation (top to bottom in the picture below), giving views up and down the park for the majority of the ride, rather than primarily looking at water on both sides. (And if the monorail station is removed, there's even more space - plus those bathrooms underneath it could do with a refresh)

I haven't seen anything official that says Mayan. Or Rainforest. Or Aussie. Or a year we're supposed to believe it's "set" in. It could be 2024 in there and we're just touring a temple that has been open to the public for decades, but they're using olde timey vehicles to make it feel more authentic to the tourists? It's called "Jungle" rush. it's vague enough to be anywhere. Why do we have Model Ts and war-era jeeps? fuck knows. maybe the guys who landed with the model Ts established the camp and then the Americans discovered there was oil in the temple so they sent the military in to "liberate" the oil people Maybe its the Aliens, upset about being evicted from Sea World, and they've set up camp in Dreamworld to try and lure in more humans to experiment on? Does that mean you're going to get upset when you can see Giant Drop or the Diesel powered train you're going to toss your toys out of the cot?

I think the wet\dry park ship has sailed. Sea World Water Park was turned into battle boats and a splash pad because bringing your swimwear, towels etc and lugging them all around the park (as well as losing an hour of more of your day to the waterpark when there were so many other things to do) just wasn't a popular idea. If you want to swim, there's two waterparks that have you covered. Waterslides do not belong in a non-waterpark. Water attraction, maybe - but i think battle boats and storm already have the 'get wet' situation covered, and the park really needs fleshing out with some high capacity dry attractions to soak up the crowds. It's been said hundreds of times before, but what sea world really needs is an observation attraction, preferably a giant wheel (towers are impacted by winds - just like trident is, so a wheel with a semi-continuous load would be preferable). Heck if every two-bit japanese town can have a ferris wheel, there really isn't much reason why Sea World can't... especially as the spit height limits are no longer a thing.

Aliens conducting a secret human experiment inside a volcano in the Bermuda Triangle, apparently located on the Gold Coast. Walking through a door into a 'Hollywood film set', but having to board an earth drill to be transported 'back to Australia' Who said these stories had to make perfect cohesive sense? jesus christ, suspend your disbelief for a while and just appreciate that an Australian Theme Park is actually putting in actual effort to theme something instead of slapping a logo on it and calling it a day. Yet more proof enthusiasts will never be fucking happy.

Just like Wipeout > Kickback Cove, it is better to have a nicely landscaped and eye-pleasing 'rest area' than an old rotting attraction structure or empty ride pad that clearly shows something missing that used to be there when its in the middle of your park. Rides should be interspersed throughout the park. If you look at 'original sea world' in the postcard in my post above, you had attractions dotted all along the spit. Many of those attraction areas have already been given over to animals already. I can count approximately 17 non-animal attractions in that postcard, though do note that i'm not counting any kiddie attractions aimed primarily at kids under 10 (mainly because I can't see them \ don't know if there are any) I've included the circus tent without knowing what is inside it - it may be an animal presentation or not - I don't know. Today - I count 14, IF you include all 8 children's attractions - including the kid's showstage (splashpad should be coloured also). (I'm sure i've missed some things or made a mistake here or there, feel free to let me know, but I think the imbalance is still quite obvious) We've lost a not-insignificant number of all-age attractions. We've also used a very significant chunk of land for animal habitats that we didn't previously have. All of the non-kids attractions we have now are prohibitive in some way - either high-thrill, restricted restraint, very unreliable, or are water attractions that aren't hugely popular for half the year. Now i'll grant you a lot of retro sea world's attractions were water based, but the remaining 'dry' attractions still offered variety. In both images, red notes non-marine-animal attractions, and blue indicates marine animal attractions.
