Movieworld, or rather Comic World?
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to Louis.sayer3's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I think regardless of the theme, the new flat ride is a sorely needed addition to the park and I don't care what character is slapped on the side of it, i'm just thankful we get a new flat! -
I visited my first when I was 14. My second didn't come until I was 27. I then revisited the first park when I was 31, and the second park again when I was 33, both with my wife for her first experience of both parks. The tricky decision for us now has been to determine which park first? what age? what order? Do we want him to experience California first - Walt's only completed park? Or Orlando, being one neither of us have been to, but certainly the biggest and most costly trip? or Hong Kong, a place that is special for us? Shanghai, being brand new? Tokyo, being reasonably close, and one of my wife's favourite countries she's always wanted to visit? Or Paris... because... well... if it's going to be our goal to do all of them we'll have to do Paris at some stage...

^But Brad's comment is the most telling of this thread - visitation has increased with the additions. When you're on a winner, why would you change? TBH, the park could do with rebranding, and drop the 'movie' related title all together. The only real movie relevance the park has anymore is that it is next to a studio. -
I don't think any Disney park would need to 'feed off' anybody. You could build it in Alice Springs and people would go. Disney parks are a destination unto themselves. Disney tries very hard to build something that means you never have to leave property. We've done the "why Disney won't build in Australia" argument to death. We all know why. If you don't, search the forums for the countless Disney in Australia threads and read what many of us have said ad nauseum. That said, one of my goals is for me to take my son to every Disney park in the world, and planning is already underway (he's 12 weeks old). Many people aim to visit each and every one, and Disney makes a big point of having a point of difference in every park they build - so there are unique things about each. It's not enough to go to Hong Kong, and then go "well we've been there, we don't need to go to Orlando now." Sure, some people will only ever visit their local park, but the point of difference is meant to drive visitation. For that reason, i'd visit every park no matter where it was - Australia included. I think that would apply to others too. We do need a local population to support it, but if they built "Disney Lite", lower budgets, smaller scales, but still with Disney flair, i think it'd be great to get a Disney fix without a passport.

Sounds like Toy Story Midway Mania... so I think you've missed the boat on trademarks and patents... they're already doing that. You'd need a point of difference.

There is nothing wrong with theming to a movie for a season or two before returning to generica - you get the hype train of the new film, without the ongoing longrunning cost of perpetual licensing and relevance issues. Six Flags is actually a great example of this - with things like Terminator = Apocalypse, or even Magic Flyer = Percy's Railway = Wile E Coyote Coaster - Moving with the times and themes is perfectly acceptable in my opinion, so long as you plan ahead for it so the replacement story isn't too disjointed (another great example is the retheme of Nick Central to Dreamworks). As for the characters in the park - Bugs and the gang still have relevance and appear regularly. Marvin is not such a common character admittedly, but as for Mogwai (I have a photo of me and the character sitting on a bench outside Ricks from 1994) - I really don't think Gremlins has relevance these days, and I can't blame them for not trotting out a character that would be mostly unknown to people under 30. The park said goodbye to Gizmo when it started construction on Scooby Doo. Rumor has it they're making a third Gremlins film, and if so, it would be a good opportunity to bring him out of mothballs. -
I wasn't professing to be an expert by any means, just citing sources and showing what i'd found. Clearly the Wiki is incorrect - I must confess I wasn't aware there were two models - they are remarkably similar too. I've looked at photos from DW and from Kentucky and I cannot see any noticeable difference. Flatrides.com do however list the two models separately. I must also say, whilst I was aware Wipeout could "lock" the gondola in a certain position and release on cue - which when combined with the motion of the arms could create some kick ass flips - I never realised Wipeout was capable of actually rotating the gondola without motion of the arms themselves. Thanks for the info Rappa.

That's where you try to enter dreamworld using a VRTP VIP pass. I've seen that happen actually. The comment to the video actually remarks that they did not operate the ride to it's full capability. Given DW's ongoing issues, it was probably to prolong it's life or reduce wear on expensive components. AFAICS, it's still the same ride model.

DC Rivals HyperCoaster construction discussion

So were motorcars, photographs and microwaves -
As far as elaborate theme on an outdoor coaster, the first thing that sprang to mind for me was the 360 projection on Manta seen here:

Ok - now that the forums are back up i'll try typing this up for the 6th time! So according to Wiki - there are Waikiki Wave Super Flips (WWSF) in: Dreamworld SF Mexico Space World Japan There are also 2 listed as defunct: Flamingland UK Kentucky Kingdom USA No info in any of the regular publications but google does bring up a result for one in russia - there is a screenshot of a video, and the ride is definitely a top spin, but unable to determine if it is actually a WWSF - there is a comment on the page that says it is, but theres also a comment that says there's one in Vienna (which is just a plain old travelling top spin). Clearly they seem to be maintenance intensive, but here's hoping the parks see the value in keeping it running and will continue to keep it alive. Hopefully it doesn't go the way of Sea Viper and get closed down shortly after a massive revamp.

An address would be handy for those who dont know where it is - thankfully the Brisbane Times came to the rescue. I assume its this one here? 12 January 2016

Nothing thrills a little guy (or girl) more than being able to jump behind the wheel of their very own "car" and try to drive around the track. For many, it's their first experience driving without mum or dad beside them. Inserting abitrary age restrictions means children who are more experienced (who might race go karts or moto-x or similar) aren't allowed to drive a dodgem car - and that blows. Once they reach the height requirement, let them drive! Trial and error teaches them how to drive them properly, and the more we allow them to do it by themselves, the more they learn. The ride is about having fun, and i've no doubt that these kids are having buckets of fun. Sometimes pile ups happen, but if you can't avoid it - look for the weak spot and try to hit them so that they will be bounced out of the pile up - a good bump in the right spot can undo a pile up without operator intervention. Dodgem cars are also known as bumper cars. Bumping is half the fun - so enjoy it! If you weren't allowed to bump, it'd be a very boring ride of people driving very slow go karts in a circle... and that is no fun. I'm sorry but I just can't agree with your complaint.
