  1. Yes but likely to be using the same IP range, as most users would run off the same ISP. If its a big one like Bigpond, you can't really be sure, and can really only narrow it down to a city (which won't help if it's gold coast like half the people here) but if its an obscure ISP that not many others use, it would be quite easy to pick it up. Of course you can't IP Ban them if its a dynamic IP, but you can at least compare them. So Admin \ Mods, while I don't particularly care for the debate about "is he or isn't he", to prevent the continued questioning and arguing, it might be helpful just to check which providers Wyn and Doc use. If they are completely different providers - problem solved. If they're both on the same ISP... then the debate continues... (And don't forget, when Doc first came on, we believed him to be different, even though we queried him at first, he started off with good language and grammar, and was quite polite.... so who knows? <That ends my rant on that one but I see no harm in checking the IP's and saying "i've checked and its not him"> Gazza, you just need to take a trip through the city at night to see how many 18 year old italians on P Plates are driving around in Evos with exhausts so large they can fit their egos in. I can't agree with that argument much. If they had licensing for the use of the theme of the arena, the mini's would be no problem. It would not come down to the filmmakers to license the use of the mini - that would come down to the manufacturer, so licensing isn't really going to be an issue, because you don't need permission to use a vehicle in a stunt show. Of course it helps if the manufacturer is a sponsor or partner because that means maintenance and repairs are quite cheap, but at the end of the day, if you're willing to foot the bill you could have whatever cars you wanted. My guess is they're using the Evo's because they are small, lightweight with a good power to weight ratio. They're also a rear wheel drive, which is a necessity for achieving drift and slide maneuvers. Not to mention if you put a good 24 inch exhaust on them, they sound like a hotrod.
  2. Ok well I guess we should split this into a new thread to talk about the new B&M Dive Machine that Movie World will replace Marvin with...
  3. Yeah - and I tell you what, Wet N Wild already has a tornado, so they'd be absolutely stupid if they went out and bought a Sidewinder, installed it at WnW and called it Kamikaze.... This argument was already put forward in the Kamikaze thread, and at the end of the day, it is not an IDENTICAL experience, it offers similar experience, with different variety, and at the same time increasing capacity, so who cares?
  4. In relation to the initial construction, The Sanderson Group has all the photos and info available, as they were the ones who did the majority of the facade work and landscaping. Lethal Weapon on the other hand, is not such a historic and monumental topic, and since built in 1996, when the internet was much less than it is now, is not something that warrants a feature in the first 3 pages of a google search, and therefore, musn't exist.
  5. Roof looks good - although pretty cheap - a few bats, and a few cobwebs.... so much more they could have done with it...
  6. And the funny thing is that if the paralympian had contacted the park ahead of time, and spoken to their PR people, they probably would have escorted him around all day to a big fanfare of someone famous, and had a minder there with him to carry his limb up and down the stairs.... I mean any publicity is good publicity, but there would be some out there condemning DW's actions, no matter how "in the right" they are. The corporate Spin-Meisters should have jumped at the chance.
  7. Yeah - Mistakes happen all the time! Here's a few choice mistakes by Cadboy Ok - now heres a real kicker - This one is from Cadboy Posted on: Oct 21 2008, 06:19 PM That link points to part 5 of the guidelines, which says Spelling, punctuation and grammar should be correct and proper at all times. Take the necessary time to properly form your posts, because if they are not up to standard they may be deleted. Many Browsers these days have built-in spell checkers so there is no excuse for not making the effort. And all that within the last 4 days. Cadboy - "let he who is without sin cast the first stone". You seem to be able to police the site very well when someone else isn't following the guidelines, but can't take the time out to form your posts properly. You poke fun at others who make errors, and yet you make those errors too. You pull members up for not following the guidelines, and yet you don't either! The thing that really gets me is that you correctly spell some really complicated words like prosthetic and discrimination (well - I say complicated, I mean in reference to some of the above words) but you fail on words like Safety and Maybe. Do you only bother to spellcheck the big words you don't know? or is it really weird you can spell prosthetic, a 10 letter word, but not safety, 4 letters shorter? I guess what i'm trying to say is the way I see it, you slipped up and made a lot more mistakes than Doc Brown and it caught on from there. Lighten up abit, things like this happen on the forums all the time. Don't take it as a personal attack because someone mimics the mistake you made in your post. Back on to topic, but clint - anything you can share regarding any particular lighting we will see under the roof?
  8. I like it Richard, i think Construction HQ looks great - although of course I don't know what else you've got planned for it - i'd probably leave it as is. I do like the little flash animation between the photos, with the bubble effect - is it possible to randomise the effects so it does something a little different once in a while?
  9. Well no, I wasn't forgetting that, but if you're saving the Super and Workcover levies on that amount of staff, you're going to have enough money to front it up - its all on percentages. If you reduce the staffs working hours by 15%, you're saving 15% off the other costs such as super and workcover. So with 15% saved off 20 staff, gives you 300%, or full priced super and workcover for THREE staff. While the savings are very unlikely to be used towards hiring new staff, meaning that not having the savings to cover the 4th person's super and workcover, at the end of the day I was just trying to demonstrate that while most people viewed the 1 hour closure as being pointless, it does in fact save the park quite a lot of money, which in turn can be used for other things. Again, if you're cutting staff hours, you're unlikely to be hiring more staff, but I used the "4 full time staff" example as it is a reasonably understandable figure for most people to comprehend, because "a years wages" makes sense to most people.
  10. I don't think sea world would have the facilities to house it, even as a "rescue animal". They require quite deep pools, deeper than dolphin cove - and there would not be the option of using Shark bay for obvious reasons. I find it amusing that the movie Free Willy, along with it's subsequent sequels and spin offs all revolved around the freedom of a killer whale that ultimately died in captivity simply because, for all intents and purposes, it had been domesticated. For those whose education on killer whales stems from free willy - the bent dorsal is explained in the movie as being a result of captivity - which is in fact false - see "shamu" Slight tangent, being that SW is a Warner Village park, and Free Willy being a Warner Picture - theres a startling reference to the disney company in that movie. Those who collect disneyana would know it as a "hidden mickey". Can anyone tell me where the hidden mickey is? (it isn't that hard - google should help) At the end of the day, while a lot of marine parks do have killer whales - SW SD for example, a lot of them have these as a result of rescue and or breeding programs, and have been established for quite some time, back when the capture of a wild marine mammal was a little less of a conscience matter (as well as a legal one). Lastly - while sea world GC did consider killer whales in the past (back when the legalities and moralities were a little looser also) in their current form, there is absolutely NOWHERE to put them on the spit.
  11. on the subject of stunt show comedy relief, Wonderland used to have Felix for the Action Man show - one of the guys who did Felix was named Duncan I think - anyone know what happened to him?
  12. I don't claim to be an expert on the launch systems either, but as far as rollbacks on launched coasters etc, it can be many different reasons. The issues that occur in the morning could be from a number of things, the first that pops to mind being cold wheels. Whether Nylon or polyurethane wheels, as it cycles, the wheels would warm up. This would be the same for the track - as the day warms up, the track would also expand slightly. I would also think that the computer calculations would have something to do with it. From memory - don't the computers in the ride system calculate the force needed for each train due to differences in weight etc? or do they just throw full tilt? I think we asked the question a while ago and someone also mentioned the cablewinch itself - again the matter of heat and expansion having an impact. *sits back and waits for the real tech heads to come in and explain why*
  13. *Groan* The logistics of such a move are beyond the realm that even Disney could consider.
  14. Well let me know when we're up to Part 1 of Page 1, chapter 1, rev 1, phase 1, section 1, subsection 1, wave 2?
  15. By my count, there is roughly 18 stores in WBMW. If you figure a few are ride stores that have to be open, bring it down to say - 13. Now, some of these run on 1 staff, some on multiple, so overall, lets say an average of 20 staff across the board. Opening 90 minutes after park open (and i think some stores opened before 10:00 to get business before they drop the rope??) means they save 90 minutes in wages per day, 364 days per year. Average wage of those staff would be about $15 per hour. $22.50 per staff per day x 20 staff per day x 364 days per year = $163,800 per year saved. This is the budget to be able to afford another 4 full time staff per year. This doesn't take into account the other costs associated with the operation of the stores - electrical (which would be minimal) consumables such as light globes, etc (small but it does add up - just like cutting employee hours by 90 mins per day). Sure they miss out on 90 minutes of revenue, but with the exception of pre-opening stores that hold the guests before the rides open, the first 90 minutes of any park operation - and nobody is thinking about shops - they all run for their first few rides of the day before the queues get busy. The advice i've seen numerous members of this forum give people asking advice about visiting parks has always been to hit the big rides that have lower capacity or higher demand early.... noone is going to a shop that early in the morning unless it is an unusual need. Its a smart decision, anyway you look at it - shops at parks have a lunchtime rush, and a closing time rush - theres never an opening time rush - thats reserved for the rides.
  16. Capacity wise, yes it doesn't have many seats per car, but the ride experience itself would not be a long one, with the tracks being only about 200 metres, the experience is short, and could probably accomodate in the high hundreds per hour. I agree that for 10 mil, a more fleshed out coaster would be preferred, but for those who said it couldn't be themed - view that photo.
  17. Well, i'm sure the "Japs" will be no worse off than any other guest. Naturally if there is any signage in a major themepark, the parks will have organised translations for many different language, including Rascist Hick. With the exception of Sea World, which is too far, all of the WVTP photo outlets in WnW and WBMW are linked to a central server wirelessly. You can get a photo from any attraction at any other kiosk. On my last visit to WnW, we accidentally got a photo from SE wet (it was in our day pack). We were able to get the photo re-printed at WnW's photo kiosk. The only reason we discovered this was when we were ordering a photo from WnW, there was a template there for scooby, and the attendant showed us how he could log into any of the attractions in MW. I'm sure that answers that.
  18. Holy Crap - bust me sideways - Gazza when did you become a community leader? I mean its not that I don't think it is deserved, I think it's well deserved - but that was a shock seeing that edit! Don't know how much time you'll have to run around and correct all the spelling on the site, but if it was going to be anyone, glad you're on the team... helpful to have a little more presence - just like it was when Clint and Joz were "upgraded". On a side note, it will be good to see this when it finally opens, even if the concrete stays.
  19. These have been posted before, but to save you searching the archive, here are two good sites: The first is some Disney Park Simulators The second is a few different style attractions from Alton Towers from the boys at Towers Times. I love the disney ones, but aren't very hands on, and tend to freeze every now and again if you play for too long. The alton towers ones aren't great on graphics, but do really challenge you as far as gameplay goes.
  20. Too true, and even the boys at screamscape are sceptical about the aussie part of the rumour. I could very easily make mention of something in an email to screamscape and get them to report it. Screamscape is reliable, but if he says he is sceptical, it usually means it isn't something he believes or has verified. It's a little like wikipedia when it comes to that part. I like the mention there about ThemeParkNewsDirect launching their new videos section of rides "around the world". Featuring contributions from two people - Cadboy's videos of dreamworld and movieworld, and Zano's videos of two international coasters. - Some great viewing to be had there of parks "around the world".
  21. From what we can see of these pics, it will be a simple turnaround, with a bit of a dip \ climb in that rockery area. It will be simple, but the speed of the turnaround (straight off the launch rail) should be adequate thrill enough without any other elements. Yes well - the last promotional photo had Corkscrew track on it - and we all picked that in a heartbeat - at least this is the same colour - it would be pretty obvious to guests if they're looking at a billboard of the ride, and it had white track, and the ride in front of them was clearly blue. As we all know - WVTP people do read the boards, and I think we can all rest smugly in the fact that that little detail, while small, was picked up here first. It does seem abbreviated, but for the cost of the ride, lets consider - 1. First coaster in seaworld in years. 2. Element of difference to standard sit-down coasters, which we have had a bucket load of. 3. Multi-launched, which, unless you count scooby, hasn't happened in Aus before. 4. It is a family coaster, so we don't want to be having kids terrified for more than two minutes at a time. 5. While I do hope it isn't SLOW, the family element, and the call for two launches tells me the speed might not be "superman fast". If they can give it a decent theme, and a decent story behind it, it would stretch it out a little to make it worthwhile. They could even "stop" on the second launch, to extend the story, and make the ride experience a little longer. My guess is it is a tight little squeeze between that part of track and the show building for bermuda, and heavy machinery will need to go in there to get over the dirt mount on the next turn. There are little mounds of dirt piled up that aren't from construction, so that would indicate to me the start of theming, rockery and the like. I'm not sure if thats what you were referring to before gazza? I do hope they're going to be doing something with the surrounds, to hide all the buildings and maintenance accesses there are around there. Has anyone given thought to the layout of the station? My guess is access will come from corkscrews viewing area side, but the access from bermuda would be good too. Looking at construction, I'm thinking it is going to have to be bridged over, and step down into the station like viking or bermuda. On the layout of the station, with the exception of the final turn, the whole ride could be just awesome if the turn we are referring to as turn 1 - the one yet to be completed (or the last one to be completed) were actually the LAST turn, big sweeping turn before the station, I think it would have been better - in otherwords reverse the direction of the train. Thoughts? (and yes I know the brake run would need to be changed, and the L turn the brake run is on would need to change) Other than that I can see a quality coaster going on here, and cannot wait to see the level of theming WVTP put into this one. Hopefully, they live up to the standard of their animal exhibits, and other rides (ex-corkscrew), which all have a level of "real-life" theming that is unmatched. (Yes - Movie world has great theming, but as it isn't "Real life" theming - its all movies and make believe - they have additional license that you couldn't get away with in sea world.)
  22. I think all of these improvements sound great. It's good to see the continued commitment you have to Parks \ R-C \ TT Richard, and i'm sure we're all very thankful for your ongoing efforts to give us the best that we can have. My only concern with the ordering of the gallery pages. I realise the posting of a link to the gallery page will break the link as time goes on, but when viewing images, I don't want to have to page through all the old pages to get to the new stuff if it hasn't been posted. My thoughts here in the links to the gallery page itself would be perhaps there could be two links to each gallery? One that links "view images of <attraction>" and "view newest images of <attraction>" so that there is a shortcut to the most recent images?
  23. On the other hand, it saves them having to spend a lot of money on advertising, as Richard has said in another thread, this site is usually ranked in the top google results for many australian theme park \ tourism related searches. If someone went by Aussie world during construction, and googled "aussie world construction" to find out what they were up to, they should find this thread, and find out all the exciting things happening. I mean - I know that isn't the intention - the council plans are publicly available, and anyone has the ability to view them - thats just the nature of the council DA process - but it isn't necessarily something that WVTP would "hate" as the side effects of them being available to us are only beneficial. There would be no detriment - because trust me - Dreamworld would be looking at them well before we notice them. Funnily Enough - there are only 5 search results on that website - not six as Gazza pointed out - has it been removed? And to the mods - this isn't exactly "breaking news" anymore - any chance of a topic name alteration? ***Edit*** Ok - so its the fifth search result, and then when you OPEN it - its Attachment B is the sixth one down. I guess those plans answer our questions about their ability to handle the additional parking requirements - looks a lot better planned than WnW ***Further Edit*** Looking at the plans, it looks good. 9 starting attractions, all with large capacity, and an additional 4.5 attractions (1 is add-ons for an existing attraction, and delivers more capacity, but no difference, and one is a roof over an existing set of attractions to make it "indoor". It also appears as though there are a number of Aussie World attractions staying on - the "3D" view of the artists impression shows a ferris wheel, and a few other attractions which could be the existing rides of AW
