  1. Wasn't Best Western Pavillions on Katella Ave, next to denny's by any chance? I've stayed there, its cheap, but damn nice.... Wonderland Used to do that a long time ago. There are numerous hazards to that though, including people mingling in the exit to attempt to reload without requeueing, not to mention hazards of personal property, and too many people to keep an eye on for the operators... In wonderland - running one-op operation, it is just too unsafe for that sort of thing, and most of the other attractions around australia would require an increase in loaders, unloaders and operators to make that work. Yes it would most likely increase the capacity of our rides, but at the expense of wages, i can't see our parks doing that...
  2. The only objection to this argument (a good one by the way) is that luna park is not a themed amusement park. it is strictly a spin and spew style park with rides to chuck you around, and none of them are much better than your typical easter show attraction. Coney Island and the Rotor are really the only fixed rides, and Rotor has been relocated from its previous position anyhow. Let's leave theming to the theme parks, and let luna park continue with its typical standard of low budget, low themed carnival rides.... that is not a bad thing, before anyone gets their back up - because that is luna park's heritage. to put in a ride like say - superman or claw would be completely beyond the scope of what luna park is trying to do, and Peter Hearne has also stated the same sort of thing. When in an interview regarding the closure of Wonderland, he stated that it is such a shame that Sydney is unable to support a single themed thrill amusement park.
  3. with more than 100 threads since the park closed, countless news items on and after the day, and so many other happenings like the octiva site, would you believe i didnt know the park was closed until pattie broke the news to me today......
  4. i think a fastpass idea would be better. each guest is issued a ticket at the gates that has a barcode on it. OR to participate in fastpass, you BUY a plastic swipe card with a unique barcode. at the end of the day you return the pass and receive part of the purchase price back. this way only those interested in priority queuing would have to pay extra, and it also means the park can control the amount of priority queuers there are. One you have your ticket\card, you go to a small booth outside the rides associated with the pass. each barcode has an account that can have only a certain number of rides allocated to it. You could either select your preferred timeslot, or have it randomly allocated to you, with this being handled by the park back of house based on ride times, queue lengths etc through out the day. i know i am basically describing fastpass in the US, but with a few extra twists to adapt and control the system here in Aus.... what do you think of paying a little extra fee - say $20, for the fastpass plastic card, and receive back $10 when you return the card at the end of the day?
  5. actually, there are a lot of ex-cast and ex-regular-guests that have talked over a "reunion" of sorts. I'd be interested if someone could get something like that off the ground.
  6. hell yes i would agree to that one! Dreamworld... paying attention? Well most of my ideas for the park have been said. Lazy River concept is a good one, however logistics of having a "split river" where it goes many different ways, makes it difficult when dealing with pumps and water currents and the like, and i dont think theres going to be that much room to go crazy with them. All of our wishlists need to take into account the space DW will have to accomplish this. I also think that going with anything like mammoth will appear to be copycatting WnW and now SW, so i think a different direction or product offering a similar thrill would be better. My Wishlist for DWWP The good old Speed Slide and Freefall. God they're a must! The wavepool has been announced, and thats a given. I think it would be good if the wavepool, instead of ending in a beachline like WnW, instead narrowed up at the mouth, went under a bridge, and fed into the lazy river system, or the "Tropical Bayou" - a tidal controlled lake fed from the wavepool of varying depth with a sandy bottom. It would be a party atmosphere, with poolside bar for the adults, where you can laze about in inflatables, sipping a drink, with beachside shores all around where families can picnic, observing the little ones or taking a dip themselves. For those familiar with Riverside in Brisbane (the old expo park) there is a similar concept to this with a series of tidal pools, all sandy bottom and of varying depths. the only difference here is that the entire lake would be a little bigger, covered in rainforest style trees so that the sun dapples through the leaves - a great place to relax when its hot, and you can swim without worrying too much about sunburn. This would be another opportunity for dreamworld to hire out as a function area, with decking and a bar overlooking the lake, and party lights and whatnot strung between the trees. A nice soundsystem, working with, but separated from the rest of the DWWP sound system would mean that the area could be isolated for private functions, with their own music\microphone etc. Now i tried to google a pic of what im talking about but i can't find a single one. On the private party angle, or just plain public usage - i would LOVE to see DWWP put in a Waltzing Waters attraction. This is purely eye-candy, and has nothing to do with actually riding it... I stumbled onto their site recently, and have since downloaded their samples and requested a DVD from them - and i can tell you their product is STUNNING. If Dreamworld wanna talk world class - these guys are the bomb... Disney, Universal, Paramount and Six Flags have all used these guys. If Dreamworld intends on doing anything at night to combat WnW, then I have to say that Waltzing Waters would be a must. Doing dive in movies has been done, so thats just a come on, but what about Dive-In dance party? if they dont do the waltzing waters in the Bayou - what about it being mounted at the front of the wave pool - be an awesome addition to the dance party.... as far as other attractions, i'm not fussed, so long as we have some HIGH CAPACITY slides - like the 4 slides WnW have, but faster, higher capacity, and a little better themed
  7. well, actually i think somewhere in the community guidelines it says something about political correctness, or sexual discrimination, or something.... but i'm not really fussed. I'm just glad pattieboi got caught out YET AGAIN.
  8. thanks for that paul, i've been racking my brain over the name of Funland in Ulladulla... on top of the dodgems, the cha cha, and the million and one arcade and redemption games, they also had a pretty cool slot car track.
  9. i think you DID literally say he said something on camera.
  10. as usual, pattiboi gets caught out bull****ting again
  11. well aint that a damn good christmas present clint? first off - who am i gunna get lights off now, and second off, you will, of course be hooking all us up with primo-good seats for nix right? thats great dude - two of your passions combined.... can't think of anything better.
  12. ok i now have high-res still shots (originally film) of the extreme speed machine and i will be posting them as soon as i get them watermarked. If you would like prints, enlargements (even framed), I will be offering this in the near future for this and many other photos thrill-related.
  13. oh yeah... amazingly, while riding, it felt like one came close enough to jump into the apartments. we could see straight into their rooms, and every detail. Ill keep this G rated, but there was something worth looking at in one of the rooms! I dont see the noise issue with the ranger, and honestly, my shouts and screams while on the extreme speed machine were the loudest noise coming from the park... I bet the residents are loving this ride over the summer...
  14. no problemo. As an afterthought, I have already posted the camera used, so no one better complain about the quality, and since i knocked it up in 5 minutes, nobody better complain about the editing either. anyhow, enjoy!
  15. even better than over-the-rooftop RTA mounted surveillance cameras - here is a link to a video of the complete ride (approx 13mb) I took this last night with a casio compact z-750 digital camera. shortly thereafter i rode it myself and it is one awesome little travelling ride. im not a big fan of travellers or flats, preferring park mounts myself, but this one is definately on my list.... 16. I believe it does Joz. Now, things may have changed, but last time i went to WnW, we were a group of four, and we had to split to ride plunge, but we had extras on river. As far as I can recall, Plunge is Max Capacity of 3
  17. if i remember correctly, around the time the park finally closed, either clint or liam posted a photo of kevin standing outside the memories photo lab (or was it demon shop) with a handwritten sign listing the number of times he had been on the "BIG 3", and how many days he had been to the park or something. Kevin was a very special person, and a lot of cast didn't particularly like him, but there were a couple who really understood, and got along with him. he had his favourites among the cast - all female, all under 30, and he remembered every single name - and even some of the guys as well... Kevin used to meet up with Geoff from guest relations at Rooty Hill, and together they both would walk from Rooty Hill station all the way into the park.
  18. i like the idea of resurfacing the pathways. The area surrounding the wavepool is covered in AstroTurf. Something similar along the paths would cost money, but would be ideal. Or better yet, if we're trying to be cost effective - the paths are generally quite wide in most places. Why not run a strip (say - 1 metre wide) down one side of the pathways. If you have sensitive feet, stick to the astro turf. if you're thick skinned.... LESS CROWDED PATHWAY!!! Sounds like win-win to me...
  19. there were NEVER NEVER NEVER balls in Scooby's Silly Stix. The only balls were in Bam Bam's Ball Bounce, located not far from silly stix in a part of the park that was closed off, and the building was refurbished into a Quarantine area for the Wildlife park. The balls used in this attraction were later used for all sorts of things, from facade decoration, to balls used for skill games (can crash in Botany Bay, Muffin Madness outside HB Skyrider, etc)
  20. Agree with you on that one Slick. In recent years, DW and WVTP have competed on new attractions, hence the current rush for DW to bring out something new to compete with Superman. But WnW have had no competition. As I've said before, another competitor, so close to the market centre will encourage BOTH parks to continuously improve, upgrade, renew, and add attractions to their parks. This can only be a good thing for enthusiasts and tourists alike. Rather than them both buying the same ride at the same time - like when WL built probe, and then DW built GD, I forsee one park building one type of water ride, and the other park building something COMPLETELY different. On Joz' comments about a wave pool, Looking at the board at WnW on how the wave pool works, I can't imagine it being THAT expensive. a standard construction on a pool, with a sloping bottom, high walls, but nonetheless a standard pool construct, with giant fans etc at one end. See http://science.howstuffworks.com/wave-pool.htm for a better explaination..
  21. Article in 'MX' - Monday 5th December 2005 Just when you thought New South Wales had new entertainment hope with the exit of Bob Carr, along comes another premier, who might as well be Bob Carr's Parrot. Its a pity the premier of New South Wales didnt declare the Wonderland Precinct a state significant site BEFORE it was sold to ING Industrial.
  22. good point flasher, but don't forget the pre-opening dress rehearsals. Technically, it was up to a month earlier. Then again if you wanna start talking about ground breaking, or when construction on the beast was commenced \ completed - depends on which date you want, although most would sit with 7th december quite nicely.
  23. Ok so first off - guys check the guidelines again - some of you are slipping.... Second off, i think its great wet n wild has some direct competition - it will encourage both parks to keep upgrading and expanding, which means we will see newer attractions more often in both parks to compete - just like what has been happening with movie world and dreamworld of late. Thirdly - those complaining about the positioning of dreamworld's new park - consider this - the only way left for dreamworld to expand the fun park was either out towards the highway which would demolish the existing entrance, or close down blue lagoon and expand that way - with the talks about big brother ending soon, this means they have TONNES of room for new rides, attractions and themed lands. Blue lagoon currently locks dreamworld in to its existing design... it would be ludicrous for dreamworld to axe blue lagoon without replacing the water attractions elsewhere - because they would lose those who visit to attend the water park to sea world or wet n wild... I was waiting for someone to mention the water crisis. Now, while the dam is at 75%, the whole country is experiencing some shortage of water. BUT a water park is better, because: a) it will attract thousands of people - and thats less people wasting water at home to keep cool. Public pools have always been better for water usage than home pools. a managed pool system like DWWP means a lot less water is wasted, and they would have many safeties in place to prevent excess water waste. All in all - no matter what side of the fence you stand on, this new park will benefit all - it will also benefit WVTP too because it will encourage competition, keeping WnW fresh and new, rather unlike what it HAS been up until recently.
  24. i think this discussion has dragged on far enough in the wrong direction - can we take all our LunaPark conversations to the Luna Parks topic, and leave this thread open for discussions on wonderland....
