  1. ^ The steel manufacture for the new coaster will be done in OZ but expect the train(s), PLC & other equipment to come from the manufacturer. Lethal Weapon's track was buit by a VIC based company called ABL Leisure
  2. Hey all, has been a while since I posted, anywho, Happy New Year everyone. As for the new Superman Coaster.. hmm, If I know the big wigs (John, Ken & Jeff) right I'd put my money on a Top Hat style ride but I'll ask my buddies in the know at the Park & spill my guts as soon as I find anything else out.. Contrary to belief, MW likes it when word leaks out on the next big thing - it generates excitement & keeps the turnstiles turning. Besides, their only competition really is DW & they have never wanted to - nor have they tried to compete with the high budget standard that MW sets with it's rides. anyway, if I find out anymore before any further press release, will let ya'll know:)
  3. Hey, interesting you guys mentioned A Superman themed coaster - the original plan for LW was in fact to be themed to Superman - Years ago, a survey was put out to park guests (with artwork) to suggest what kind of attractions they'd like to see in the place next - Options were *Neverending Story Rapid Ride" (based off the success of Germany's) *Looney Tune Village & *Superman Inverted Coaster - Instead we got Lethal Weapon, Looney Tune Village & WWW! Interesting how the original ideas have not really changed their future plans. Expect that the Park's next big thing WILL be a thrill ride to keep it in competition with DW. A Coaster is most likely but a new Flat ride is not entirely out of the question either I'm sure!
  4. ^For sure, if you look at some aerial shots of SW, the Waterpark actually takes up a huge space so there's plenty of room there for new rides including a decent sized coaster if desired. the SW WaterPark is usually closed thru winter anyways + WnW is really the place to go for that kinda thing. It seems strange to me that at this stage they're only doing away with the tower & keeping the pools & 2 slides down the back? Incidently, those two slides used to be directly behind the castle, where you enter the queue for the 3-D. I really hope they do go ahead with a new ride for the site & if I know John Menzie's Manager buddys better, I expect it would be Adventurous and fully themed - not just some out of the box midway
  5. There are some very interesting & cool ideas brought up here. Going with what Richard said, don't expect a Rollercoaster design that wraps around pedestrian areas of the park. For one, Public Liability won't allow it. Picture this; your strolling down the park when suddenly an overhead B&M coaster whips above you and with it, someone's camera fly's out of nowhere and scones you on the back of the head, knocking you out & forcing you to sue for damages!! I really like the scenic tower idea - perhaps a tower like the one found in Vegas that serves multiple attractions?? As for the height restrictions, I wouldn't buy into that one - remember it wasn't so long ago that the Gold Coast City Council almost approved construction of a gigantic "Bronzed Aussie" lifesaver statue about the size of the statue of Liberty for the Broadwater?? Thank god that one never happened!! By the way, the Corkscrew is more than 3 stories - I believe the highest point is just under 90 feet
  6. Hey, don't get me wrong -seriously, I have probably visited the place more than the average CM and watched it grow over the last 3 decades;) So for that point, I guess I can be a little more critical than those having been only once or twice. The thing is Theme Parks need to have Broad appeal to maintain success. I like the fact that SW is going down a path of promoting it's zoological Themes but let's face it, great displays don't warrent a $60+admission price tag. The place needs to become more immersive and feature good thrills that compliment the atmosphere of the place.
  7. dear or dear.. I feel this to be the beginning of the end for "Movie Park" ha! The new logo looks crappy. Thankfully, our MW still has WB ownership
  8. I took my partner to the Gold Coast for the 1st time last year & visited all the Parks. The rating went MW best, thenWnW, then DW then SW last. Honestly, it's a beautiful park but needs a serious Adrenalin kick to make the place more exciting! Corkscrew was a good coaster, about 15 or 20 years ago but we need some WOW factor SW!!! I'd like to see 3 of new rides, namely a kiddie coaster, new Midway (I was hoping SW would have put a Gyro in before DW beat them to the punch) & new Coaster or water ride. That should jazz the place up a bit! Oh, & fix up Bermuda!! Great ride but it needs some serious refurb
  9. Hey all, The concept of this new ride does sound pretty cool and would do well in a place like this. Originallly, the Lethal Weapon ride was to be centered around a "Car Chase". Unfortunately, multiple budget cuts got the better of LW & after realising that riders would barely notice what was going on around them anyway we ended up with a great coaster but sadly, built on a pile of river rock and a dreadful pre show which was later re thought as a walk through. One of the original concepts for LW was to feature an "exploding car" that flipped over the track toward the end of the ride. This would have been a pretty cool visual that strongly fitted the previous offerings at the park - The concept was later overhauld and brought to life in Movie world Germany. Interestingly, LW at Germany is a pretty crappy coaster with great visuals. Our version is kinda the opposite! Another big plan for the Park some years back was to replace the old Movie Magic Show with a new "Matrix" Movie Magic experience. Again, the concept was downgraded to a display replacing Potter whilst all major capital works for Village parks were frozen beyond Shark Bay. Last I heard, the project of replacing Movie Magic is back on the backburner and we can expect to see a replacement to the dated show for this year's Xmas season. This will serve as a mild buffer together with other holiday promos to keep a share of the market In addition to that, expect to finally see a replacement to Marvin the Martian 3D over the next 12 months, a "refreshed" Looney Tunes River Ride and a brand new Thrill open for xmas 06. What I love about MW (unlike DW) is that when something get's old, they are not afraid to update it and keep the place looking new. DW seems to just keep on adding more and more rides (they really could afford to do away with some of those dated rides - not to mention it would improve their operating costs;)
  10. Hi all, Well, this is my first post here so hi to all of ye:) My Theme park exp comes from spending many years as a member of WB's Movie World's Operations and Middle Management Team. MW aside, I very much grew up with Dreamworld having been a regular visitor of the Park for many years with an Annual Pass. This post is what caused me to join this website so expect my reply to be a pretty involved one. Here go's: Today, when I walk into the park through what was once a beautifully executed Main Street, I turn right to see a Giant Fibre Glass Wave, Lobster and enormous Ice Cream cone surrounded by a mash of Midways and Luna Park style thrills. Dreamworld has seen it's themes scattered in many differant directions over the last few years - Infact, no sooner does a new ride open that a new 'themed area' joins it. My ideas would be to bring the themes back to the size and style that the park was originally intended as by it's creator, John Longhurst.Themes and thrills in so many aspects have been poorly executed at the park for so many years. Today, with the pressure of 3 parks banded together against it, either they continue to work solely toward attracting the Teenage Thrill market or completely Re-Imagineer the place. My idea is to do just that, no matter what the cost so here's my two cents worth: #1 A "Tomorrowland" style area featuring futuristic thrills amidst other wordly styled rock would be great at replacing the currently dreadful looking "Ocean Parade" area including the new "Claw" ride- The old Thunderbolt site could extend this Theme with god knows what but could also easily fit such a Theme. #2 Mainstreet could be stylised to fit some kind of Eutopian appearance featuring elongated and fanciful buildings and characters (akin to the Emerald City in Wizard of OZ) IMAX could feature a spectacular 3D adventure featuring in theatre FX and motions. The Ford Cars ride would be gone and replaced by a bizarre transport system that would tour the central area aboard Hot air Balloons & the Giant Drop would be rethemed as some Crazy Inventor's sky ride! #3 Gold Rush Country is just perfect for DW. It would be great to see new rides expanding this theme as well as existing rides brought up to par. Technologically, we can do a lot better than that nowadays and with the right know how, the skies the limit! DW needs to move away from simply attracting a market that spends so little once through the gate. Why not build a "Haunted Shack" style Omnimover ride that would feature FX that surpassed MW's. The ride could be built in the Island that is surrounded by the Murray river cruise where the whole theme would spill over into the region. #4 Retain and expand on the whole "Nick Central" idea. Cartoon buildings and landscapes should be enhanced as well as new attractions added. Turn the old ToT entrance back around as it was and theme it to a particular cartoon character instead of an enormous skull (another example of dreadful theming!).. NOT HARD! & YES! THE LAUNCH! (speaking from exp & knowledge) I'm sorry but the ride could most positively work better in the rain if the run out was covered!!! In addition, decent Lighting FX etc as part of the launch and a well themed queue could really add to the WoW factor of this ride! #5) The Blue Lagoon is a cool theme but the land was cool back in the 1980's. Today, the Theme needs to be revisited. If we were to have an "Ocean Parade" in the Park, then let this be the spot to have it! The area does not have to be all about slides and is certainly not that anyway! Throw in or move a couple of midways and some walkthrough 'underwater' areas and you've got yourself a much more entertaining 'Blue Lagoon' #6) The animals of the Park should be nurtured and embraced as part of DW's uniqueness. My plan though would be to have them inhabiting the back half of the park together in a more central location rather than having them scattered all over the place. Here, the Park's diverse array of wildlife would inhabit the brand new Jungle like, 'Outpost' themed area Well, dat should about do me:) I'm sure you all agree the kind of potential a place like this has if only someone took such DREAMS and turned them into REALITY
