  1. A Half Pipe doesn't belong at Sea World. It would be wonderful if this was the elusive 2007 (Movie World) attraction that everyone has been holding out for. It's great to see Movie World so busy these days.
  2. Park World certainly seems to be a reputable magazine (from what I can gather from a couple of quick Google searches). It has been confirmed though that Movie Park Germany will not be receiving a new Intamin coaster as suggested in that magazine. Perhaps their source on this is not 100% reliable? It would be great to see Dreamworld get a new Intamin coaster.
  3. While I'm sure it would be a nice ride, it wouldn't be an Australian first. Superman Escape is the exact same thing as Kingda Ka but on a smaller scale (obviously with a different track layout too).
  4. Nice idea Gazza; I think that style of coaster would work perfectly as a solid family attraction. Eureka's footprint is pretty small. Some kind of expansion would be necessary to make it work effectively, maybe underground or over that lake (the lake can remain there, just make it an undercover lake).
  5. AlexB, I have edited two of your posts in the last month to correct capitalisation issues. As per the community guidelines all posts should be written in formal English. The content in your posts has never been altered. I have never received a PM from you in regards to this issue. I do however apologise for not PMing you about the edits at the time.
  6. It's very easy to get these things confused but I can say with 100% confidence that magnetic levitation simply isn't possible on a water slide. All current Maglev systems require magnets ABOVE and BELOW the primary track to keep the vehicle suspended (much like wheels above and below a roller coaster track). The water slide at Jamberoo will be powered by linear induction motors; exactly the same as WhiteWater World's version.
  7. Laughing out loud. Anyone looking for serious information on Batwing can checkout these threads or Roller-Coaster.com.au's profile of the attraction. This thread has served its purpose.
  8. Dreamworld doesn't need a new thrill ride. They have five thrill rides. They're in need of a decent large budget family ride.
  9. You'd think so but they're yet to publish anything about the new ride in their media section.
  10. I'm the most important person in the world to Movie World. I'm a customer. If you're asking for my opinion in relation to those Batman vehicles, I'd rather them be replaced with better (original) props. I do not like them. They're old and tacky. I like the fact that you're trivialising my statement regarding the standard of the park. I do not believe it to be a humorous —or outlandish—suggestion that the park should strive to improve, or at least maintain, its reputation from new attraction to new attraction.
  11. If anyone is wanting to convince Gazza, GoGoBoy, or myself that Movie World has hit the mark with this attraction, you're not going to win us over with silly statements like "no one cares" or "it's an Australian first". To me, from the photographs I've seen, there appears to be little or NO creativity put into the theming. If I'm not mistaken, the Batman vehicle is the same one that has been sitting outside the Batman Adventure Ride for decades. It's boring and looks very out of place beside the Batwing tower. Who said you can't theme a thrill ride effectively? The Claw is a perfect example of an attraction that has brilliant—but basic—theming. The Maliboomer at DCA is themed a million times better than Batwing. Answers.com defines theming as: The Maliboomer, as anyone who has visited DCA knows, is meant to be one of those old school traveling amusement test-your-strength games. The tower theming, queue theming, audio effects, and adjacent structures all make this work brilliantly. People who don't like Paradise Pier at DCA are more than likely questioning the effectiveness (or "goodness") of the theme itself, not whether or not that area of the park has reached that theme. Not being a massive Batman fan myself, I'm assuming the Batwing Spaceshot is trying to simulate some kind of Batman-related transporter. The Batwing? It certainly doesn't look like a top-secret launch location like what would be expected in the movies. Quite possibly the worst part of it all is that white beach umbrella. I'll wait until I actually ride the attraction before I say whether or not I think it's up to Movie World's usual standards.
  12. I voted yes, but it was by mistake (hence the edit). The theming on this ride should've been as good, if not better, than The Claw. Movie World has fallen short. It's a shame that they think an old recycled Batman vehicle counts as theming. A little more money could've gone a long way.
  13. Moderator Comment: I've tried to move some of the mat-related discussion to the mat discussion thread however some people have talked about both mats and ride ops in their posts. Those posts have remained in this thread.
  14. Let's not forget that this wasn't a scheduled closure; an unexpected safety-related failure caused the ride to close. Any refurbishment or upgrade to the ride's system would not be budgeted for nor planned in advance. I would love Dreamworld to construct a major indoor coaster that competes with Scooby-Doo. There's just something about that genre of theming—the spooky unknown—that makes this type of ride so appealing to the public. A ride like Universal's Revenge of the Mummy would be the best thing ever for Dreamworld. The majority of Dreamworld's current rides have a very large visual impact, which does add to the excitement and buzz associated with the ride. I think it's safe to say that indoor rides also generate just as much, if not more excitement and buzz from the degree of unknown and suspense.
  15. Thanks for the update Winger. It sounds like everyone who has been on the ride has thoroughly enjoyed it. Hopefully I'll be able to make it down there sometime in the next couple of weekends.
  16. The log ride is: old, decrepit, poorly themed, poorly maintained, uncomfortable tacky, uninteresting, unthrilling, riddled with spiders (the most horrible creatures on Earth, no doubt from the darkest depths of hell), and designed to handle only a low number of riders (i.e. poor capacity). What's right with the log ride?
  17. Movie World's website sucks. They don't even have a single photograph of Superman Escape on the ride's profile page. The site also performs poorly in Firefox. The technology used to power the website is in the stone age. I doubt the web developer even knows what Photoshop is either; the graphics are so inconsistent. The news system is also so behind times. The 'Latest News' section is near impossible to navigate. Since when do news articles not have dates? Where's their RSS feed? Why aren't news items tagged and easily searchable? Why does the homepage display different news to the 'Latest News' section? Why does the site's navigation feel so 1997-ish? Why is text styled like a link but not actually a link? Why does the bottom of the main page still say '3 Park Super Pass' when that was abolished ages ago? Their site makes me want to visit Dreamworld, just to spite them.
  18. It's gone. Hopefully, at least. For good. I'd love to see them build another mine ride in the exact same location, maybe slightly expanded over that stupid ugly and pointless lake, but obviously with a more efficient and safe ride system. Newer effects wouldn't hurt either. I know many people who claim that ride to be among their favourites (people who aren't extreme thrill seekers), it would be a real shame if Dreamworld didn't replace it with another family ride. They're only left with two now: Thunder River Rapids and that terrible Rocky Hollow Log Ride. Dreamworld has actually become quite a a very desolate and run down place.
  19. So I assume that by applying the same logic, Disneyland—one of the most successful theme parks ever made—is "awaked" for having most of its major attractions indoors? I can't help but wonder if Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, Indiana Jones, The Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean, and It's a Small World would have the same appeal if built outdoors. Many of the world's most exciting, surprising, innovative, and insane rides are built indoors. It's the only type of environment that allows the animators and architects to truly play god and control every aspect of the attraction. The amazing multi-sensory lighting and video effects would not be possible on the Indiana Jones Adventure, for example, if it had been built outdoors. It is excusable (and ultimately better) to build some rides outdoors; rides which primarily rely on extreme physical forces to provide enjoyment, such as Batwing Spaceshot. When it comes to adventure and storytelling though, I think an indoor and outdoor ride is the best combination. Expedition Everest at Disney's Animal Kingdom is a perfect example of this. The $65 million dollar budget—which has been fully spent—was for Warner Village Theme Parks' four parks/attractions (including Outback Spectacular). The budget did not include Sea World Eye nor Batwing Spaceshot.
  20. Whoever took the video was obviously a master of object hiding (probably a ninja). A true roller coaster hero.
  21. I think people are getting a little confused about what gravity is. The force of gravity is the MINIMUM, not maximum, acceleration an object will experience.
  22. The green sensors in the track are not LEDs, they are proximity sensors. They are used by the ride system to track the location of the 18 vehicles progressing through the attraction; primarily to prevent the cars colliding in the event of a failure. The effects won't be on a timer. They will be triggered by sensors adjacent to, or on, the track. A timing sequence can only work when there is a single vehicle moving through the show scene at a time. At any given time there'd be more than one vehicle going through the 'ghost train' section on Scooby. Timing simply isn't possible. That's not to say that sub-elements of the major effects aren't timed, for example: when a certain effect is triggered there might be lighting or other props that are activated by a timer.
  23. Feel free to bring up your concerns with short replies in our new dedicated thread. Please keep this topic to WhiteWater World. It's annoying for people who are actually interested in the progress of this park.
