Extended hours at Australian theme parks
themagician replied to Gold Coast Amusement Force's topic in Theme Park Discussion
You can book the park out for events and they sometimes operate rides for these events. And my understanding is they don’t have a cap on private events either. -
According to the website, Doomsday has reopened. Which means every attraction is operating

Luna park 9 new rides construction
themagician replied to Coasterlife's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Thanks for the review and photos. I don’t think this coaster is anywhere near the levels of Rivals or ST. I think better comparisons would be Gold Coaster (Sidewinder/Cyclone), Green Lantern and maybe MDMC and Jet Rescue too? -
It was slightly quieter and smoother, but I didn’t find it dramatically different

They aren’t much different and aren’t much quieter either. The ride as a whole was quieter yesterday because most of the audio wasn’t working

Extended hours at Australian theme parks
themagician replied to Gold Coast Amusement Force's topic in Theme Park Discussion
VRTP parks are all extending their trading hours, with WNWs being extended the most because of the movies. DW are slightly adjusting theirs and WWW remains the same. -
This made me laugh as well

I hadn’t been on the ride in a couple years, so maybe they aren’t as new as I thought. Along with Scooby having issues this morning, GL was closed all morning being tested. Rivals was either having issues or was very slow operating because I didn’t see it run all morning. And Doomsday remains closed.

Went and checked out the new area this morning. The area is a great addition to the park and has really made this area of the park much more popular. It’s great that the kids get to play in the splash area while the adults/older kids get to go on the rides. The area seems to no longer be referred to as Extreme H2O Zone, as all references to it have been removed. They have also updated the directional signage. The whole area has been really nicely done. The facilities are good and there is plenty of good seat/grassed areas. It amazes me that they didn’t make Kaboom and Double Barrel have their own queues from the beginning. I can’t believe they thought having both rides share the one queue was going to work and now they’ve had to do a temporary solution. The Fast Track queue is now in a seperate location, closer to the splashdowns. Kaboom was at least a 30 minute wait while Double Barrel had no queue. Double Barrel are alright. They are good for parents with their kids, but I’ve done them once and probably wont do them again. Super Ripper was the surprise for me. A lot more fun than I expected and it really picks up some speed. Would happily ride them over and over. Kaboom was also really good. Has a good variety of elements, gets good speed and has decent thrill. The loading was interesting (as someone has already mentioned). The staff are fully harnessed up, but there isn’t a gate for guests. And because of that they are really anal about how you board into tube and they have this panicked look the entries time. The first drop is good, but it’s a shame you loose so much speed at the very top. The clear slide pieces are a real nice touch. And they allow the tube to pick up some good speed again, but is lost as soon as you get to the top of the uphills. Overall great additions for the park and makes it feel more complete.

So I went on WWF this morning and there is actually a lot more changed than you might be expecting. Firstly, the queue line is the same, but as we’ve seen in images the station has had some major changes. Because of this new loading procedure, it makes the queue much much longer. Especially when there was an hour queue for Scooby and the ride has issues so closes and everywhere goes to ride WWF instead. For some reason they wouldn’t open the extended queue and instead had the queue out the door going towards WB Showcase. The boats themselves are a bit smoother, but are very restricting for the legs because of the harness system. Any larger people who have ridden it in the past might have a very high chance of not riding it anymore because there isn’t much leg room anymore. There are a lot more handrails throughout the ride was access as well. Not sure if this is new, but there is a wooden crane that slightly moves before the first lift hill (you can see it between the trees) There is no longer a staff member at the turntable where you go backwards. Instead there is a bright light and a camera. There is no video or sounds in that room anymore either, so it’s very ‘meh’ when in there. The water effects at old faithful sort of work again. The train and tribal area effects are working. The tombstone and population effect sort of works. They both do their thing at the same time, but there are no sound effects for it. The village has become very very meh. Nothing happens except for the final railing ‘breaking’. There are no sound effects, doors moving, etc. The sound pouring out the water tour happens, but no sounds effects. The final lift hill is a bit quieter and smoother, but no sound effects at all. The man with the gun projection is there, but no sound. At the top, nothing happens either. Doors open and then the drop. Some signage throughout the ride has been repainted and/or replaced too. All the sounds throughout the entire ride and queue have been updated, but they have removed a lot of them. And the ones they’ve removed I feel like are very important because it was very very quiet in the areas where there isn’t any sound. In the queue audio they also refer to the ride as the Wild Wild West adventure. So overall it’s great they’ve replaced the boats so they can keep the ride operating, but the rest of the ride is just getting worse. Every time the ride gets a refurb, it gets worse.

The park doesn’t mess around removing everything Christmas related. Everything except the roof lights has been taken down.

I think you’re right, because it would be the fastest coaster with multiple seperate launches. Which means it’s only against Jet Rescue and the Motocoaster. -

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but they it’s Australia’s tallest and fastest multi-launch coaster, but Steel Taipan is taller and faster? -
Please tell us more
-
I was there on Sunday, the park overall was pretty quiet. Some areas were busier than others, but at 12 when I entered the park Steel Taipan only had a couple cycles wait

Good to see they are using the exhibition centre to help organise the crowd better. The website does say 10:30, but also says 12:30 and 2:30pm depending where you look. Emails say 12:30 but social media says 2:30. It is only two shows, but not sure which time it actually is
-
Last week you said GL had an explosion and this week SE has a fire. Do you work at the park or just a guest at White Christmas who got to witness these things
-
And I’ve been told that the seatbelts have been removed
-
That’s definitely been one of the hardest parts for the park. In the past 5 years they have removed 7 rides. And so far we’ve only gained 2. Where some of those rides were, it’s very obvious something was there and has been left either untouched or as a pile of dirt. Out of the rides removed I don’t think we’ll ever see something replace TOT or BuzzSaw because of their locations, but there is definitely opportunities to replace the Log Ride, Big Red Car and refurbish the back corner of Ocean Parade where Kevin Hill and Flowrider were. In term of overall ride count, MW has 14 rides while DW still has 20. And while MWs overall are newer and some are better quality, I think if DW can get another couple really good attractions that match the quality of ST then their overall ride list will be a great competitor for MW. And if DW can fix the ABC Kids area and back of Ocean Parade and fill in the gap where the log ride was I think they could be on their way to becoming a better overall park.
-
I think DW knew they were falling short in so many areas and their response to fixing that is to continuously offer new experiences/events throughout the year. And I think this year has been there best for a long time. They’ve still have issues and they’ve still got a lot more to do, but if this year is a preview of what is to come, I think the park could return to its (almost) former self in a few years. VRTP were mostly in a good spot before COVID, but have been hit pretty hard and have been relying on people just coming back because what they had was already good. WNW has desperately needed something for at least 5 years, so they’ve finally ticked that box. Reading everyone’s comments, it seems like MW is having the most issues and I’d say it comes down to the issues with getting parts from overseas. But they are also having operational issues and their events have taken a hit too. Usually we get the DC Comics event early Jan, but it doesn’t look like we’re not getting that either this year.
-
Because the rides seem to constantly be having issues lately and half the seats on major attractions are unavailable. DWs ride operations have improved greatly and MWs have gotten worse. DWs staff (for the most part) are positive and engaged, while most of MWs look like they don’t want to be there.
-
Shockwave has reopened. Which means every attraction at DW (excluding the train due to refurb) is operating. I can’t remember the last time this was the case
-
The DC Rivals climb and Star Tour are also no longer available, despite it being advertised in park
