  1. Is this the right thread to drop in my love for the the queue rails for Bermuda/Log Ride/Rapids
  2. I agree that this is an actual point. There's a few degrees to this though. I think there is a case to be made for unthemed industrial fences around something like a roller coaster. A coaster fence should not only be a barrier to stop you accidentally getting in, it should be difficult to cross as well as mentally visible. A pretty fence that doesnt look like it means business is more tempting for someone to try and cross. A fence along a mini train line isn't the same as what's needed around a coaster though. A train is something you try and integrate to the scenery of the park. I don't think you can have the sort of fence as indicatedain the postcard above, but I think there is a spot where you can say 'functional fence above and beyond what's needed' and 'looks nice'. The chain link between the train and MDMC I don't have an issue with. Particualy if you were to put some plants in front of it. The train line though surely doesn't need much more than a waist high fence that you can't easily climb and some gardens in front of it. It's a long walk past not much to the back of the park, make it vaugely pleasant.
  3. @Dom Are you really confused between the difference of spending millions on a paddle steamer that thematically doesn't fit the park it's going into and putting in even a little bit of effort to make an area look nice? It's not about making it look like what it used to, it's saying 'Hey this area can look really nice'
  4. Coooooool more village verses ardent shit.
  5. Capacity stats have pretty much always been fiction. The only way you're hitting that number is by ignoring loading and unloading and just sending it again as soon as the ride finishes
  6. Well first thing I would do is establish what the actual requirements are. I don't think the 'ride envelope fencing' is the same standard as what a coaster would be. It seems like all it needs to be is a barrier. Once you've established what's needed, google image search 'pretty fence', select a couple different styles to keep things interesting, plant a garden with some flowers and call it a day
  7. Oh well so much for that little pipe dream
  8. If this ends up being a success I don't think it would be a totally silly idea to look in to doing a 'permanent' trendy food market on the old amphitheatre site and uncouple it from DW. Night Quarter proved there's an appetite for it on the Northern GC, and best case that land won't be doing anything for a few years anyway.
  9. It's similar to what the old Night Quater/ Eat Streets markets do
  10. TBH it's a pretty small building, I doubt you'd get much more ride in there than is already there. It's also flanked on a couple of sides so you can't expand it easily. I don't think it's worth getting rid of, but I think it is worth getting back up to a standard. Not sure how involved that is, but I would suggest the first step would be to check the input.
  11. There is an element of this to be fair. But I don't think even with that you get to have screens that say 'check input'.
  12. The big shame about that stuff is it's not all the hard shit. Some of it is the easy stuff thats broken. Haven't been for a while to check it out in person, but if that's representative then it's not up to where they should be.
  13. I don't know what sort of operational capacity Vortex runs at, but I'd say even without a staging area it's high 200s which in a park like SW for that type of ride you'd think would be plenty.
  14. I mean there's just not that many people going on Vortex that it's a thing. Even during peak peak season, maybe 100 people are wanting to ride in an hour. You literally only need to run a cycle every 20mins to keep up with demand. With those sort of numbers, the whole 'stand on this number, remember the number, find the number' is just unnecessary bullshit.
  15. Apparently for the new steam effect they'll be using tractor exhaust fumes.
  16. Weekends have been really busy the last couple of weeks at all the parks I've noticed. Think some of that pent up demand might finally be coming out
  17. That water level when you look at it is stupid high, I would argue way too high. Guess that'll happen when you get as much rain as there had been
  18. GL is what you go on when the queue for Superman or Rivals is too long. With GD it's got to do with what @New display name said, it's poop your pants scary. It's an event during the day. There is always someone in the group who is too scared to ride it, or someone who got talked onto going on it who didn't want to. The group will go on it once, and that'll be it for the day, once is satisfying with that ride. because once for most people is enough. Ride wise it's the closest thing to Bungy jumping, and few people want to do another bungry jump straight after doing one. What it does though is it creates fun memories and stories 'Mark was too scared to go on it, but Rachel went on it anyway' or 'I got dragged on it and OMFG soooo scary!' That sort of thing is huge when people judge what the ride collection of a park is like. When someone asks what park has the scariest rides, GD helps DWs word of mouth. It doesn't matter that it's not got a huge ridership, a lot of people are just never going to ride it, the fact it's there (and visible af) is enough. Yes I think having other stuff around it makes a lot of sense, and it would see an increase in riders if you did, but it would be foolish to say something like 'GD has low ridership, should we think about selling it to Gumbuya?'
  19. There's a fun fact I used to enjoy back at the day at SW. For those that don't know/remember, Corkscrew and Pirate ship were a good 200 meter walk from the next closest thing. When Pirate Ship was closed, Corkscrew was busier as people would reride it more. When Corkscrew was closed, Pirate Ship was dead. I think about that a lot with ride popularity. Imagine what Doomsday's ridership would be if it was build within Superman's heilex? Vortex ridership numbers equally suck, but it'll be very interesting to see what happens when there's a critical mass of rides nearby; will ridership as a percentage of park guests go up or stay the same? Smart money would suggest it'll go up. I have no doubt that Buzzsaw would have seen an uptick in popularity when ST opened. I doubt it would have ever been hugely popular, but people do tend to go to an area of a park and hit all the rides in that area together. If there's no draw to go to an area and stop there, people won't ride the filler. It's pretty much as simple as that. That'll do for today's episode of guest ride popularity phsycology. In next week's episode I'll discuss why I think GD's ridership is quite low aside from its location, and why lower ridership on GD specifically is not actually a problem that needs fixing, and explain why Motocoaster being the most popular ride in the park does not make it good.
  20. A couple of things. The big one for me is what is the regulatory difference between QLD and the rest of the country since 2016? The other thing is impact. A skyloop at big park is a bit of waste of effort, it's just filler. Take that same ride to a small park though that doesn't have stuff like GD/ToT and it's easily the most thrilling thing there. It's impressive enough to be the headline act. As much as I think DW need the filler right now, the headache might be worth it for Gumbuya in a way that it wasn't for DW. Think of it this way, GL at MW is Sat between Superman and Rivals. It's filler. At Aussie World or really any park not on the Gold Coast it would be the headline signature coaster for decades to come.
  21. I mean Superman is an older design than Blue Fire. Not entirely sure the age of a design has a single bit of relevance to how good something is. FWIW, I dont disagree with some of the points of the review, but I don't really agree with the tone/conclusion. Is it possible to agree with a point but not the intensity of the point?
  22. How much better would ST be if you put a top hat on the flat bit of track though
  23. OK, now do one with grass on the path on the right near GD, stones under ST that are the same colour as the stones actually used near GD, and like a couple boulders under ST.
  24. Wait a few people/groups of people said 'look at that nice garden' in response to seeing that within the space of 5mins? That is just odd, I have never once heard a guest talk about how nice a garden in a theme park is and there are way nicer gardens at every park in the world than that. For that to be garden that inspires groups of people to spontaneously comment makes me think something is seriously missing from the photos.
  25. Can someone be a dear and photoshop some grass into the photo of the ride. My imagination isn't working
