  1. It still doesn't make sense to have a first tier coaster named after second tier characters. Lucky the themeing is just that and really won't make the actual ride better or worse.
  2. That's why I've advocated the Batman theme. Giant Batman LED on the lift hill (like the Bat symbol in the sky) would look awesome from the highway and entry into MW, and there aren't many people around that wouldn't recognise that. Spaceshot doesn't really do a huge character like Batman justice, so change that to some 'lower' character.... Yes there is AA but that's more a villian/joker theme than Batman (I think Batman really only appears in VR?). But anyway, the colour of the track so far is suggesting otherwise. I'd never heard of Sucide Squad (or any of the characters in it) until the movie came out. I think if you did a poll of the general public on which is the greatest and most recognisable Super Hero, you'd get Superman and Batman as the runaway answers. Naming this coaster (being the biggest, most prominent coaster in MW and probably AU) anything other than one of those two doesn't seem right to me. Superman is already well represent but Batman isn't (Spaceshot? c'mon. Not a bad ride but not worthy of Batman!).
  3. Maybe it will be rainbow coloured and themed Sparkle the Unicorn?
  4. I would have thought you'd start with changing the name if you're trying to attract less adventurous type. Perhaps: Tower of Typical Mast of Mediocre ?
  5. Getting feedback from the people who will pay to ride it seems reasonable. I just watched both: The first half of both looked pretty similar. For the second half I think the Vekoma looked more interesting however it seemed significantly shorter than the Intamin. Overall I'd vote Intamin, based on a single watch.
  6. Edit: Hmm I somehow managed to quote my reply below.....
  7. What brand are they, I can't tell by the picture?
  8. This indicates that – like Superman Escape or Arkham Asylum - Shock Therapy – it'll be capable of operating with two trains during peak periods but use only single train operation for much of the year to allow for maintenance work on the non-active train. Does AA operate with a second train during peak periods? I've never seen a second train, let alone two operating at once...... but not that I'm there all the time (I also thought there had been theoretical discussions on this site about MW getting a second train to increase capacity).
  9. Is the avalanche ride the mine ride in the mountain that's still standing? If so, it definitely had a yeti thing. Back in 1994 I went on it and when I got off I had scratches to my face. We assumed it was the yeti that got me (obviously it wasn't, no idea how I ended up bleeding though).
  10. Well everyone knows that the girls should be at home with their mothers making sure the house is clean and tidy and a hot meal is on the table for when the boys and men return from a day out. I think the general sarcasm of this forum is starting to rub off.
  11. To thoroughly inspect every ride by 9.30 I would think the team would be pretty big if it takes 2 guys four hours for GL alone. Then what do they do for the rest of day, wait for it to break down? Unless of course most are part time, 4 hours in the morning and then the rest of the day off, sounds pretty good to me! Obviously some rides wouldn't take 4 hours, but still, that's a lot of man hours before they even open.
  12. In the first video - it takes them 4 hours on GL alone and they do that every morning for every (or at least every major) ride? So they must have an army of engineers starting at 5.30 if they inspect every ride by 9.30am.
  13. As I've mentioned I'd be pushing (if I had any input into it at MW.....) that MW should scrap Batman Spaceshot themeing and theme the new coaster to Batman. Batman is arguably one of the biggest superhero's so it would be fitting that a big coaster is themed to Batman, not a 'small' ride like spaceshot. Plus a huge LED bat symbol high on the lift hill (like GL) would look awesome from the highway. I guess the wonder woman symbol could look good too, and it has merit that it could be themed to WW, but it looks very Americanised to me and is no where near as recognisable as Batman (I just had to google it to recall what it looked like....) EDIT: actually the new one isn't so American...... http://www.slashfilm.com/new-wonder-woman-logo/
  14. ^ so that was constructive? The painted line does not indicate that the nut is correctly tightened, it's as simple as that. As usual, any feedback or opinions that differ from the fanboys comes under fire in this forum.
  15. If the articles intent is to inform the general public then the article isn't achieving that goal as the content is misleading (imo). It was constructive feedback, nothing more.
  16. I guess it depends which way you read it. To me the stripe doesn't indicate whether or not it's been tightened correctly, rather it gives an indication if the nut has moved since it was tightened, and it may not have been tightened correctly i.e. to the torque specifications.
  17. Torque stripes The nuts and bolts on roller coaster carriages, track and support structure use torque stripes, an indicator that is painted on. It gives an immediate visual and tactile indication of whether the bolts are correctly tightened. I'm probably being picky but I don't think this reads correct, unless my understanding is wrong. The indicator is there for a visual check if the nut has loosened or changed in tension, it isn't a visual indicator that the nut is at the correct torque. If the nut was not torqued correctly prior to the paint stripe going on then it only indicates a change in the incorrect torque, it doesn't verify that it is at the correct torque - if that makes sense :/ i.e. if the nut should be at 50lbs put was incorrectly tightened to 30lbs, and then painted..... Other than that, good read - thanks.
  18. Anything printed on the door will be the container capacity. Anyone run the container number to see what comes up? I had a quick look and got nothing but there are numerous sites you can search and I don't have time at work to keep googling..
  19. I suppose I went on it straight after Superman and it's been since Fright Night that I've been on it. It was rough and yeah, my legs were getting squashed at the end pretty badly too. Edit: Is Blue Tornado exactly the same as AA - it looks like it is. Edit: never mind, wiki tells me it is.
  20. I think he means the ride, with VR, is one of the best rides on the coast.
  21. Isn't the theming really only above the seats and at the top of the tower, the tower itself is just painted a fairly non descriptive colour? A giant coaster out the front of MW with the Batman symbol LED sign (like GL), especially at night, would look great. It's instantly recognisable and pays homage to a major DC character. Big character, big ride. Anyway, I was just throwing it out there.
  22. Well I should have said my daughter said the same thing, being rough, so maybe the two of us. But it is a seriously uncomfortable ride, I guess it's just showing it's age.
  23. I was at MW yesterday, not much happening in the new coaster area. However both Batwing and Justice League were closed for maintenance, not only closed but had temporary fencing blocking the rides from view - do MW always do this when maintenance is going on? With the re-theming (or at least enhancements) of Scooby Doo, what are the chances Bat-Wing is being re themed as well, to something other than Batman? As Batman is one of the more well know Super Hero's, maybe the new coaster could be themed around Batman - this makes more sense to me than say the Flash, which unless you are righto into DC stuff (I'm not), then the Flash is no where near as recognisable and iconic as Batman. As a prominent flagship coaster, a prominent DC character (assuming of course it will be DC themed) that is instantly recognisable (both character and the bat symbol) makes a reasonable case.
  24. I was there yesterday, didn't do VR though but I have in the past. I dunno if it was just me, but AA seems really, really rough at the moment, I couldn't wait to get off it. It's actually a good layout but so uncomfortable....
