Gary - no one ever died on the chairlift. Where did you get that from?? Only theme park deaths (not including carnivals) I'm aware of in Australia is the Ghost Train Fire at Luna Park Sydney.
-
Well clearly I am wrong then, I don't propose to know everything about the situation, thanks for the extra info. I just hope we are never in the situation to have to deal with such an tragedy in Australia (yes I know we've had deaths previously, but not in recent times).
-
Not getting my back up djrappa. I said buy the direction of media. Surely even you would agree that Disney has the ability to influence media. I'm not saying to cover up a death, but to potentially minimise the damage, and ensure that positive news/articles in the weeks/months follow get good expose to in turn deflect negative public opinion?
-
If you are not interested in the topic, why bother posting about it? Seems simple to me.
-
Who said anything about the media hiding a death!!?! Talk about switching my words around. All I said was Disney due to its size and image would have a much better chance of overcoming the negativity associated with a death in park than the likes of DW. I commented that it was my opinion, and if you disagree that's fine.
-
I could be wrong, but Disney has a lot more media power, resources to put a strong media spin and buy the direction of certain media outlets & their stories. I'd hazard a guess that any ride on the Gold Coast or in Australia for that matter that a technical/mechanical issue (as opposed to operator error) directly caused a death would close down for good. Hopefully we don't have to ever see that happen, but that's my opinion.
-
I get that you are trying to be technical, but the ability of Disney to rise above in-park deaths is very different to DW's ability. Given we have mass hysteria in the media here when a ride breaks down or e-stops could you imagine if someone, multiple people were to die on the one ride?
-
People = more than 1 Person = 1 Re-read my post.
-
Huh? Most of their rides have cost someone's life? MOST??? Yes aware of Big Thunder, but that wasn't multiple incidents, which the OP seems to be suggesting is the case in these fictional Wipeout deaths
-
Rehearsals you mean?
-
You're joking right? Why would a ride still be in operation if people had died on it??

If we got something of FireChaser's quality i don't think anyone would complain of a lack of inversions. -

Unless it was a brilliantly done rapids, theming wise and with good thrills, indoor/outdoor elements, then the only option is a Australian-first iconic coaster -

Bermuda was sitting there for a number of years. They also have fences in the middle of walkways. I wouldn't exactly put SW above the possibility of it sitting there for a quite a while. -

Wow, sad day for the Gold Coast & Australian theme park scene. A classic iconic ride, that gave excitement to many for over 3 decades. The announcement not a shock, but like many I had hoped there was a way of saving her, but economically it obviously wasn't possible. Kudos to SW for doing their utmost in the last few years to extend its life as long as possible! Will be interesting if now that a decision has been made if it remains in place or is dismantled and scrapped. -
Correct me if I am wrong (and you actually know the answer to be true), but the 'renovations' as you call them involved a new car, laser systems and tunnel. I'm not sure the actual launching mechanism (electromagnet if my memory serves correct) was replaced, which would mean my original point stands regarding launching numbers

Doomsday - Potential New Tower Ride at Movie World
Brad2912 replied to Gary86's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I haven't seen a soft cycle full except opening weekend. I'm not saying that people of the soft cycle don't enjoy it, im saying the thrill seekers in the queue get annoyed and impatient due to it causing longer waits. Given it is a Big 9 Thrill Ride and marketed as such, you shouldn't have to wait longer for non-thrill seekers -

Well for one it slows down the queue for thrill enthusiasts, and for your high profile high drawcards rides like wipeout would bd detrimental to capacity and the image of the park. You only have to hear the groans in the pandamonium queue when they announce the next ride is on the lower thrill cycle. -
