  1. I think proximity to accommodation and Nara Resort sways international tourists to SW.
  2. Yeah I'm sure all the parks are quiet, but today was probably the most quiet I've ever seen a theme park in all my Years of visiting. I'm yet to ever seen another park alternate ride operation due to having 1 staff member for 2 rides - but that may be more to do with proximity and safety requirements
  3. Whilst I don't have stats to back it up, I would believe that SW would have the higher tourist:local ratio of all the parks given it's popularity with Asian tourists & unique offering in terms of dolphins (not sure of any other dolphin interactions Australia wide - apart from a few beach-based interactions).
  4. Just spent the day at DW. I will say it is frustrating that the only place to buy a drink (or food) is at the front of the park. As we had the little tyke (18months) enjoying wiggle world it was a decent hike just to buy a drink on a hot day. They should at least get new model vending machines that u can pay by card or notes for those that want a quick drink. As reported by others - 1 attendant on The Claw, and 1 attendant alternating rides on Teacups/Big Red Boat as well as Carousel/Dronkey Flyers. Longest wait all day was 5mins for GD. Claw, ToT2, Cyclone, BuzzSaw, Rapids, Log Ride all walk on. Didn't go on MDMC but the few cycles I saw running never have more than 4-5 people on. Probably the most quiet I've ever seen the park. Quite strange to be able to stand in ocean parade out the front of the claw and not have a single person walk past you for a few mins. Can see why they've introduced the $30 for 30 days, will at least get some bums in the park who will hopefully stay for lunch given the cheap entry.
  5. Whilst that may be true Flea, the fact is there is no a single zoo/animal attraction in QLD that has Gorillas, so that is a drawcards in itself
  6. That's a great observation there... And what exactly points to them selling all their rides, and additionally, not replacing them??
  7. On an different tangent... I see today that DW has a new pass available for a limited time - 30 days of unlimited access to DW, WWW and Skypoint for $30. March must be a quiet month for them historically
  8. do the rides make the theme or does the theme make the rides? I'd argue if the rides are not themed, you cannot say the area is themed
  9. well not this half anyway, are you are referring to the First Half Results Presentation, They may have something planned for the 2014-15 First Half ... but seems unlikely at this stage... may just get the Wipeout refurb
  10. Except the Indiana jones ride would take up probably 4x as much vacant room as the building that houses LTRR - so where would u fit it, and the cost of the Indiana jones ride was approximately $100m - which would almost be the costs of all movie worlds coasters combined.
  11. The big ass poster from the movie in the eatery area. That's about it. Unfortunately they couldn't afford an animatronic Will Smith to pop out at the top of the lift hill shouting 'wikee, wikee wikee, wikee wild wild west' before the drop. Come to think of it, apart from being set in the West there was zero relevance between the ride and movie in the first place...
  12. I thought Richard was using the sarcasm tags when he introduced the sarcasm tags??!!??
  13. Exactly! The next attraction to open will be a walk-thru immersive experience where guests can view over 20 actual real-life turbines in their natural habitats. There will be an information session hourly about how turbines benefit not only theme parks, but also mankind as a whole. There will be a new mascot too, Terry the Turbine who the kids will love, and for a $39 up charge you can actual feed a turbine some power (aka, click the 'on' switch) and see how one really works! Opening Sept 2014
  14. No turbines there? Oh yeah! Welcome Vaero! Welcome to the nut house!
  15. I'm not sure what to make of that question, did u forget the sarcasm tags? I do that all the time. Well, no, a turbine is infact a turbine in the true sense of the word, it's just that Dreamworld believe that everyone must dream of turbines given their park-wide emphasis
  16. That's is exactly what I had in mind, except instead of the wave at the back, a black wall with space junk/asteroids. Just so it fits in well theme wise with the vintage cars next door. Though TBH, it would probably be the best themed ride in the park Practicality 0% Setting the mood/theme 110% "A ride is not a ride without a turbine" I'm pretty sure Walt Disney said that...
  17. If every concept became reality we'd be driving flying cars (well flying them)
  18. Yeah, I wasn't being fully truthful. They are really calling it "WipeOut: Sarcasm" The rest is all true though...
