Well I voted for Wood but it's all very relative. I don't want to see a poor designed, quickly deteriorating woody. At the same time I don't want to see some half cocked steel coaster from Vekoma. I think I would have to see the two designs on offer before I passed any real judgement. As for what Joz said I have been on both the 'Steel Like' (ala Intamin Pre-fab) and more out of control great wooden coasters. They are both very different and have their good and bad points. I will say though I felt even riding something like Balder still felt very different to riding a steel coaster.

Construction underway on Movie World's newest ride
rappa replied to Richard's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Wll Parkfan it didn't accidently go to Mexico at all, that's the route the ship was taking. Good to see another bit of info getting leaked out. I like it when that happens, means that even less people get told things next time around. -
Movieworld to get a stand up coaster?
rappa replied to dreamworld_rulz's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Play their cards right??? What like if they are nice B&M might let them have one???? That whole line just makes no sense. Who was it you asked from Seaworld about them meeting safety standards? It is not uncommon for restraints to be modified to meet certain standards (hey just look at the new rockets) so I doubt that is what would be stopping us from getting one... -
Okay sorry but I just couldn't get passed the fact that you took the time to apologise for the spelling but not correct it!! Gold!

I just wanted to clarify that I wasn't swearing to abuse someone or make a point, I was simply trying to illustrate the exact reaction a coaster like that usually gets, I really didn't see another way. If you were offended, I appologise.

That's just funny that you say it has the best theming you've ever seen because you can walk a few hundred meters in the same park to Scooby and see theming that far surpasses Superman in terms of quality. As for your US parks comment, those coasters are not trying to be anything more than a roller coaster and in my opinion at an 'amusement' (not theme) park simply putting in an unthemed coaster is fine. Superman is more a hybrid darkride/coaster than a coaster. Now to get BACK ON TOPIC which is about Dreamworld and a new thrill ride, not Movieworld, superman, or whether. The thing with wooden coasters, or more so the people that write them off is you tend to find they are the people who haven't had the opportunity to ride some of the amazing ones out there. After riding things like Thunder Coaster and Balder (still the worlds number 1 woodie) earlier this year I can definitely tell you wood has a long future still ahead of it. Just over a week ago fellow member Nev and myself were on Ghostrider at Knotts and whilst apparently it has deteriorated over the years, the reaction from my mate who hadn't ridden it before was enough to prove the place wooden coasters have in our amusement ride line up. It's not very often you get the kind of 'holey sh!t' reaction from a steel coaster you often find with wood.

Right side has been open the last few days on sidewinder... The newly laid carpark is actually our new staff car park for Outback Spectacular. The old staff car park has been taken over by the studios for a new and very impressive project (sorry strictly movie production, nothing ride related). Parking will be at a premium this summer with WnW opening extended ours and Outback Spectacular running afternoon as well as evening shows.

Well they are two different systems... LW is using a ratcheting system (thats why you only have the pre-defined 'clicks' of how tight the harness is) where at SE uses a hydralic system to secure to restraints. The reason you have to pull in before it will release is because of that ratcheting system... likewise thats also why you can just 'throw' the harness up on LW but on SE no matter how hard you push it it won't open any faster. BOTH systems will allow you to continue to tighten the restraint once it has been locked.

I definately think that a Spinning Coaster is the perfect addition for SW to be looking at... The thing is they really don't NEED to add anything. You really can't fault the park in any regard how it currently is, so it's often hard to justify the expenditure for an attraction that you don't NEED to keep a hold of your market share. Movie World and Wet n Wild are however going to NEED new attractions to stay in the game in what we're all sure is soon to be a battle of the Pacific Hwy parks.

Hmm interesting that they are the two parks you mentioned matt... read into that what you will

WLS...Best? Fairest?.. Who remembers these Moments Awards?
rappa replied to mnemo's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Sorry I phrased that badly, and upon re-reading it now seems pretty dumb. What I shiould have said is that I find it funny that shoes ARE of great importance on rides with a floor but on those without it suddenly doesn't matter as much. Makes the reasons for wearing them on floored rides kind of redundant. Then again... just wear your shoes you damn bogans -
Where do theme parks store spare uniforms?
rappa replied to Drewboy's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Well Movie World has both a uniforms and costume department. Uniforms has uniforms for all of Movie World as well as Paradise Country, WnW and some of AOS as well. Uniforms also happens to be the place to go to collect such things as your free park passes Costumes deals with all the character suits and performers in the park. Seaworld has it's own uniforms department and AOS has a fair stock for our staff as well. -

rappa replied to mnemo's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Yeah it's funny that nobody ever thinks the reason why you have to wear your shoes is not so obvious. I will never understand though why all of these requirements go out the window with something like Lethal Weapon. Thank god we got to ride Valhala at Blackpool without shoes though -
I would just like to state two things that are probably pity obvious... First Guest Releations (or any staff for that matter) are not allowed to tell you that the 2nd train is broken. Members of the general public do not have the knowledge to know that these things break all the time and thus will think the worst if told a piece of the ride is broken. We don't want guests to go thinking there are problems with the attractions in our parks as often broken automatically makes people think unsafe. So I'd say there was a problem with the 2nd train (or maybe even the transfer system, did anybody think of that?) but of course they can't tell you that. Second, nobody would have had a problem with DW Rulz post if he had put it accross in a constructive manner. But approaching it from the point of view of a park SUCKS, or IS A JOKE is just asking for trouble. I think it's his attitude as opossed to his opinion that was being questioned.

If it is I'm sure they are planning to fill the sand traps with powdered gold for 300 million lol. I will do my own digging up here tomorrow with some construction peeps.

rappa replied to mnemo's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I'm guessing that was probably the case. We were just in Gold Rush and all the suits, security and everyone else came running through the park. Then yes, they went and closed Snowy and Beast for quite a while. My guess is Beast was closed to stop you being able to see what was going on from up there? As for the GC parks, yes would certainly be just as many stories up here. I know quite a few, but like these guys aren't going to say a word as long as I value my job -
Construction underway on Movie World's newest ride
rappa replied to Richard's topic in Theme Park Discussion
So in case anyone didn't know construction went Vertical last night. The only errected one piece of the tower but I would expect construction to progress quite quickly now. There are 3 pieces remaining in the car park and I would guess another shipment wouldn't be far away. The bottom section does have two small air cylinders mounted to it which match the grey colour of the tower. My guess would be that this will mean all the hardware inside the tower will also be in the same grey colour. -
Now I don't know for sure but I was in the park at about 1pm and it really wasn't very busy at all. Superman didn't look like it would have anything like a one hour wait. Seems like you might have just been VERY unlucky. One train op would be normal though given we're now out of holidays again. One train op usually would produce a wait time of around 5-15mins.

I think what's missing from here are some Snowy Stories... like for instance what happend the day of the Total Thrills meet. Keep the stories coming guys, very interesting stuff. -
Yes take the time to go to Guest Services or email them an make your enquiries. Don't go throwing a tantrum, that's not very mature at all. If something at a park upsets me then I will surely make a point of letting them know, even if I work for the company. BUT by the same token I also make a point of telling them when I think something is great. As I did recently when I was very impressed by LW operations. My best guess is that for some reason the 2nd train failed inspection that morning and so they could only run one train. SE is the parks star ride, they wouldn't be making people wait longer than they have to by choice. If you want to bash operations, explain why DW choosed to staff rides in such a way that Wipeout and Cyclone can have dispatches in excess of 10 minute intervals!

I would also try to hit Dreamworld on a Saturday. Saturday is traditionaly the quietest day for the parks up here even during the holidays. I don't really know why, my theory is that everyone assumes Saturdays will be busier so avoid the parks and they end up being quiet. I don't know, but this has been the case for years...

Construction underway on Movie World's newest ride
rappa replied to Richard's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Well it depends, Scooby and Road Runner have exceptionally well themed vehicles so I don't know how much of an argument there is there. Plus with the tower we're not talking about a vehicle as such but more an integral part of the tower. I would personally like to see some sort of fibreglass shell to the Gondola than the usual cheap signage they get. This is the closest the park has gone to an off the shelf flat so far so we want them to do all they can to make it anything but. -
The problem with building an Aqua Trax all through the park as cool as it might be is that you are pretty much intruding on the tranquil areas with a thrill ride. Even if you look at SW Orlando it still isolates it's rides from the Animal based attractions...

Construction underway on Movie World's newest ride
rappa replied to Richard's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Well of course it's going to stay that colour! It's batman themed! Look at Doctor Doom at IOA, it's the same colours. It's actualy a very smart colour choice, black shows up too much dirt and fades too quickly. This colour will have a lot more longevity and require less frequent re-painting. Remember this is only the tower, we don't know what colours they are going to do all the air tanks inside it yet. I'm most interested to see how they theme the gondola itself. I will be real dissapointed if it's the typical S&S car with a vinyl banner around it... -
Just because something sounds rediculous doesn't mean it won't happen I'd sooner see a Spinning Coaster like Dragons Fury go into Sea World.
