  1. From what I have been led to believe the concrete walls are simply a construction barrier whilst the set is built behind. Once contruction is complete the concrete should be removed to be replaced with the set which has been contructed in the more tradition ply, foam and hardcoat method. Concrete has been deemed too dangerous should there be any errors with the stunts causing them to impact upon the set. A contact of mine high up in the park has given me this information.
  2. well it may be old technology but we just finished riding and that slide rocks! Great ride experience and just good fun. Better than tornado in my opinion. Did you ride it gazza?
  3. ads if you read back you will see I've already said it's not indoors. Whilst your ideas and comments are good and valid, they are kind of moot as it's already been indicated that the show will not be inside a show building. It sometimes get frustrating when you take the time to find out information for other people on here to share only to have people seemingly not even read it before posting
  4. We have a media call tomorrow at 11am so I will be riding then. Will let you all know how the ride goes.
  5. Its just drawn like that on the map as to not give away the set. It has those big 10m walls but no roof like we thought
  6. That would explain the price tag of 10 million if it includes building a show building. I shall have to investigate this tomorrow and see what's the story with Lighting if they are enclosing it. I've heard nothing said about this though, perhaps its just for show on the map as they don't want to give away what the set looks like.
  7. Yeah I wish people would link to their pics in their post, its kinda of annoying if you don't regularly check the front page which I know I don't... Anyway Kamikaze was testing with staff yesterday afternoon so opening is not far away now.
  8. Well the water is not returning to Surfrider so you won't see any water in the pool. As for the seats we noticed yesterday afternoon that one of them was now spinning pretty good, perhaps this is just a case of new parts that need time to work there way in and start spinning freely again. There is now way if they were now not meant to spin that it would be working as well as it was yesterday. IMO the water did little to add to the ride so its no great loss, hopefully we get the seats back in full swing again because it really is/was a kick ass ride.
  9. Okay to start off with yeah, the set looks good, but underneath not so hot. The show control system for Maverick was a serious install, much more full on than anything we've got at AOS were all our systems are pretty well separate from each other. It was really set up much more like a ride than a show in terms of operation. As for projection, well Digital projection is really getting there now in terms of brightness to be able to do large format projection like IMAX. However you would still need to stitch multiple machines together to do an image as big as IMAX, but it's not that hard to do. Just as an example your 30k Lumens projector (biggest digital) uses a 6000watt lamp. IMAX uses a 30 000watt lamp. You're biggest cost in running these things is lamps themselves. Even Shrek would chew through 100 grand a year in lamps. Over at AOS we use still image large format PIGI projectors, and each one outputs 90k lumens, thats 3x brighter than what digital can currently do. At the parks its all your labour and parts that cost the money, electricity is so ridiculously cheap its not much of a factor.
  10. Great except for those damn MDMC style of supports... eww i hate those
  11. I think the tower looks great as red. And as for the bar... its only serving mid strength beer and frozen slushy chick drinks... So its not like its serving hard spirits.
  12. 'Train' was put back on Surfrider at the start of this week...
  13. Wow the maverick set IS NOT in good condition. The wiring and effects are long gone and the set is a rat infested rotting nightmare. You would never see that set used again and the only reason its still there is it's cheaper to build in front than to knock it down. I would love to see the show stage returned to that former glory some day, there was quite an install of show control equipment to run that show in its hey day.
  14. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled in there for some old PASS faces so I am told
  15. I would imagine some lighting for day time to bring up the ambient levels but I wouldn't go expecting any special effects to run all day (this is not official park info, just my general personal thoughts) simply because of the expense and wear and tear on equipment to run for 8 hours a day every day. I wouldn't mind seeing something created to jazz up the parade though, that could be cool.
  16. I said re-fit the lamps in those film lights, not replace them with new modern looking fixtures.
  17. You can actually completely predict acoustics in every way before a single hole is dug for a support. Many people make a good living out of doing this well. The problem is it involves a lot of planning and cost and usually building something and then seeing the result after is a cheaper way. I think in time we will see the complete audio system in main street replaced with somethings specifically designed for the space. After all most of that system is over 15years old now and audio technology has come a long way since the park was built. As for the lighting I think perhaps looking at getting those old school studio fixtures refitted with long life lamps and running all day may be the answer. Something I know I will be looking into. As for harry potter leaks, nothing some additional guttering won't fix.
  18. I'm sorry Klassen but screw you! After hearing things from a few people I thought I would be nice and suggest that perhaps you re-think some of the things you post, because regardless of anything clearly you have a love for your job and that is not something I would like to see taken away from anyone. But if you're going to be all arrogant about knowing how to read a contract then fine, post what you like, see if I care if you get in hot water.
  19. I'll just give you some friendly advice... if you're going to 'check up on the stunt show' make sure its only public knowledge you post on these boards. You may find yourself in hot water at work if you continue to post inside information, HR ARE watching you know.
  20. He wasn't rude, he was taking the piss, and I and I'm sure many others thought it was very funny, almost as funny as the ridiculous stuff you were posting. So if you're saying that the 'Nemo Pod' is like a Mac550, does that mean it's a complete failure of a product that is semi reliable and has terrible light output? What I think is annoying is when people like you post FACT that is completely made up, you don't know, so why pretend that you do. Maybe it's things like that that have HR hunting you down... ELS supply the lighting for events like halloween, they own no such fixture as a Nemo Pod Light. Don't say you were mistaken, because you went so far as to give detailed specs on the light you made up. Now that's you've been shot down by people more knowledgeable that you, please don't go complaining about it.
  21. WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? What is a Nemo Pod light and when did it come to exist because we can tell you now that that there is no such thing! Oh my goodness, what kind of cheap Acme brand crack are they handing around at Movie World these days!! There maybe cool effects for the roof, there may not. You can put anything you want in a concept artwork but the reality involves many more hundreds of thousands of dollars to make it happen. We can only hope we do make it happen and do so in time for the event. ...still sitting here thinking wtf over a nemo pod light!
  22. Well power is cut to the train so it stops where it is. I'm not certain about the braking on these rides but think they still use track brakes. So the train might coast for a bit before the friction of the motors bring it to a stop.
  23. I'll just say how much I made one of the Tech Services guys laugh yesterday when I told him someone was sugesting there are or were motors in the zero car.
  24. That's quite funny, because I've heard the same thing from a lot of events people. Unfortunately it's not events that make the final decision on what gets installed under that roof and what doesn't. I will agree that the roof has great POTENTIAL to look good at night.
