Participants wanted for Superman Escape TV Shoot
lisalila replied to Richard's topic in Theme Park Discussion
You could hear it? damn. As soon as I walked in I could smell it and than three workers came out and ordered us out and said there was a gas leak..people who were lining up at the doors to get on the ride were majorly pissed but when we were told what happend they all calmed down a bit. Oh, thats weird about LW cause they told us it had broken down and then when we did get on it we were lining up and some idiot took their camera on board so as it's going up the hill they stopped it to get it off them..took 5 mins..alot of pissed people and workers afterwards. -

We were on superman when they were filming it at around 10:15/10:20..didn't even notice them til we got off. Did anyon get involved in the gas thing yesterday at Superman? we were in the line up and than they told us to get out because you could smell the gas as soon as you walked inside..we ducked over to dreamworld after that because lethal weapon was down so there wasn't much there really but we went back to movie at about 2ish and superman and lethal were working again. I can't remember who it was but I agree with the person who said superman is rough near the back..it shakes. -
You can see WNW from Lethal so for some of us that view won't be much different and I quite enjoy the view from the GD..it's gorgeous..much better than looking out to WNW imo.

New Water Attraction For Dreamworld...
lisalila replied to OzCoasterFreek's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Shame it was destroyed, looks freaking awesome. Well with the amount of area, can't they just purchase more or something? I'm not sure where as I've never really taken notice to the land around DW but couldn't they (if wanted) say "hey here's $20 mil we want that land" or something? I don't think they would have to include Cyclone in the water park area because the entrance is actually inside DW, just where they placed it is so far away from the other rides..you can't even SEE the other rides once you go around that corner (with exception to the claw when it's going) so the waterslides or whatever could kind of give it that 'part of the park' feeling the rest of the park has. -
New Water Attraction For Dreamworld...

I think wrapping them around cyclone (or the area) is a great idea, at the moment cyclone has that out there feeling..it's apart of dreamworld but it's soo far from everything else it feels like it's out there and a million miles away. Wow Gazza, where is that? you could litterally spend all day there and not do anything else! -
Does anyone know if the construction that is going on between the alley way entrance where Scooby and Lethal are will be used for the new space shot ride that you guys and Oz Coaster are talking about? There was aloooot of construction going on there when we were there last month but nothing really to give away what it was going to be.
-
I think that was a repeat from when it showed last year (just with some little bits in it because Shrek and the Wiggles weren't in there from memory), not actually a new show because as someone else said the networks arent going to try to compete with the Games..even Dancing With The Stars (which gets aloooot of viewers every week) had a special on because they knew they wouldn't get the viewers like usual because of the Games. Also they said that it was Hong Kong Disneyland at the start, don't know where you got Tokyo from.

Did they change the pricing since Jan? because it was only $1 when I used them in Jan and if they did than they should add more all day $7 lockers around the park because as I said, the ones near the photo shop fill up too fast..specially during the peak times.
-
My brother was going to go on the middle freefall ride but he chickened out. Not really fun watching the people go down and coming off the slide..I'm def too chicken to try those slides..be scared I'll fall to my death. They could Gazza but that'll cost them money I do like how those rafts hold three people instead of two like Terror Canyon so they got something right there I guess.

Work commences on the Dreamworld Water Park
lisalila replied to Richard's topic in Theme Park Discussion
They are def doing something on the old Thunderbolt site, when we were walking off the Cyclone we went down the emergency exit (stuff walking right around when you have a short cut haha) and there was some constructionworkers there..although they were just standing around staring at us walking down the stairs so my friend and I said "how's it going mate? having fun standing round doing nothing?" and they were like "having fun going on all the nice rides?" which we of course said absolutely..but still..def something going on in there. The car park is coming along ok, gonna be huge by the time it's finished though which is a good thing. On the topic of the cyclone line up, we walked right up to level 1 when we went on it, waited about 10 mins maybe 15 (guy was sooo slow though) and my friends were just getting inside as the guy was letting people in so they didn't even have to wait and this was at about 1-ish. -
When I went in Jan I went to go on WWF but the line up was out the door and I was leaving in 10 mins so I didn't bother waiting but this family came out from the exit as I was walking past and I asked how long they had waited and they said they were actually right out the door but had only waited half an hour to get on the ride which considering how long the line would have been was really good. I think Lethel Weapon is the longest wait on most days..since there is only one load/unload station and some of the ride op's take freaking forever to get it going. On Sunday they had two people on; one was in the control room who also did the line up and the other guy was telling everyone to make sure they have no loose items and was checking the harness' but they closed the ride for 5 mins or so because two people lost their stuff somehow and the guy was like "we're waiting for clearence" and we're like "why the heck do you need clearence?" it's so frustrating when they don't tell you what is taking so long and I know most of the time they don't know why but he could have told us what happend instead of leaving us hanging like that. Any way back on the superman topic I just think that if they PAID for two trains than they should use them otherwise it's just a waste of our precious money and yes I say our money because in the end it's our money WVTP is spending. But as I said I guess it could be worse..15mins-an hour isnt so bad but for a ride that only goes for less than a minute it's just nuts and the ride op thing get's on your nerves so easily. At one stage there were three ride op's working the que line and the ride but they were only working one at a time..like ride op A would do the que line than ride op B would do the que line while ride op A was checking harness' and than ride op C did the que line while ride op B "controlled" the train and ride op A checked harness' and that worked really well because there was three of them and than all of a sudden they went back to one person do it all on thier own which really slowed thing's down. Ohh Gazza, the only time I've seen LW run two trains was during the school holiday's every other time I've gone up there during non SH it's only ran one train.
-
Well I dont know what they consider peak times but at one point during the day the line up was way down where the lockers were and they actually closed the ride to anyone who wanted to join the line because it was so long. The ride operates SOOO well with two trains, costs or no costs people don't pay $60 to stand in line for hours. Lethal Weapon did better than Superman..was only in line for at least 10 mins before we got on compared to the 15-45 mins for Superman and Superman only goes for like a minute or just under. The line isn't THAT bad..I guess it could be worse and it's def not the worst in the park it's just stupid they have 2 trains that they could use but don't because they wanna save costs. The lady I went on the ride with said that she is sick of how long the line get's and how long it takes to get the ride going when there is only one train and why does the person doing the line up also help with the loading of the train? I found that to make the line up take even longer.

I agree with that, I can understand that making two stairs for both sections will cost more money but it was just so hard to go around the corner with the tube and try and not hit people with it at the same time (which failed terribly). The line up to go on the sidewinder is good..except when a tube comes down you get a big wave of water at you but hey if its hot who's complaining..unless of course your only 4'11 and you gotta grab onto something or someone to stop yourself from falling over like moi. I didn't think it was that bad either, definately not as extreame as mammonth falls but we did get a nice thrill from it going from each side to side and almost tipping over but definalye not as thrill seeking as mammonth falls. I do like how you can load two tubes at a time on each slide so that saves some time but the line up on the stairs need's to be worked on because it's just hard trying to get past the freefall riders without hitting them with the tube. Just to add a review of the black hole in here..it was really good, the walk up wasnt as bad as mach V and mammonth falls (was actually quite quick) and we just walked right in from the que line as there wasnt even a line up until we came out. As we were walking up a lifeguard was walking behind my brother and sister as he was coming on shift there..which was so annoying because they sent my brother and sister off and my friend and I were waiting in the other slide and we sat there for 3-4 mins while the guy debreffed the other guy and so there was a huge line up by this time (which is why there was a line up at the que line as the tubes are usually just sitting there against the pole) finally he let us go and man oh man it was so awesome! almost capsized but that's half the fun. It's about as good as Terror Canyon..loved the bit where you go from one corner to the other and you can't see anything so you almost capsize.

The ride is awesome just the theming in the queline needs to be worked on.

When I was there on Jan 27th I so enjoyed the two trains going because I got 5 rides in the hour I had the locker for and I was there on Feb 23rd and Feb 26th and the line up was just shocking..I was in line and had just lined up when it was announced that the ride had broken down and could take half an hour - and hour to fix..I dont know where it broke down since it was going when I walked through the entrance but they got it up and working within 10 mins so that was alright. The front is really awesome..great views but the red part of the harness' need to go - they left bruises on my arms when I came out of the seat while holding them up..are they really needed? I had a ride with one of the girls that was working the ride that day because she was knocking off and wanted a ride on it and she told me the same thing dreamworld said, they dont want to spend more money than they "have to" on it which is very sad because the ride does have the potential to become the best in Australia..they just need to fix the line up time..if they paid for 2/3 trains than bloody use them.
-
Is the bayern curve the bit where the camera is? I dont mind the ride being a little rough, I just hate it when the restraints don't click in properly and I can lift it a bit..I'm terrified of coming out of harness' so I sit there through the ride and hold it down while trying to keep the head still so it doesnt hurt too much. The wheels sit on the outside part of the track where as most coasters are on the inside of the track like say Cyclone and the Corkscrew.

I personally don't care what Dreamworld put in after the aqua park as long as it's not a woodie because those look very boring and dont attack me for saying that because yes I've never ridden one before (unless you of course count scenic at lp melb) but that is simply my opinion and this thread is getting kinda stupid and o/t, who cares what they put in there, as long as it's something new, fun and exciting (and this can be done via a thrill or flat ride) It's also stupid to compare dw to mw because they really arent in the same league: DW pride themselves on being a thrill park, MW is a family orrintated theme park. I really dont care who is the better park because I visit both, I dont care which park has the better rides because I visit both, I don't care if DW do bring in a B&M to compete with Superman because I'll ride both. I know most of you prob dont care what I think but you all are such rollercoaster/theme park addicts I just thought to post a opinion of someone who doesnt care what park get's what and which park is the better park.
-
Wow you have some really good idea's Gazza! I think the themeing of the ride once you are on it (in the subway area) is really good..could be improved with the thing's you said but the que line and the rest of it are just plain boring, you dont really get into the "superman mood" while standing in line so I think they should fix that up some way..not really sure how but your idea's are really good so they should use those. I think the tv screens that are in the que line should display the next train info like you said or even putting some more on the actual loading station to make it seem more like a subway (as you said). The outside themeing really does put the ride down, you just dont get into the mood like you do for say Scooby or WWW.

I think MW needs more lockers more than anything really. The only lockers are near the photo store and they get full within the first half an hour/hour of the park opening so than you are basically forced to use the Superman lockers for the rest of the day, even if you dont go on Superman (and you of course don't have anyone else to hold your stuff while on the rides). I didnt have a problem with the lockers at SM really..nice location, easy access and it's only $1 really..not gonna break the bank but the I do agree it should stop timing if the ride breaks down but I dont think they can actually control that? They def need more discounts for pass holders..well they actually need A discount since they don't have any at all, even if its just like 5% a discount is a discount. The free locker for pass holders is a good idea but I doubt that'll happen..they seem to make quite alot from those lockers so why change it. I do love Superman though, great investment for Movieworld and hopefully it'll make Dreamworld get a better rollercoaster or something cool to compete with it.

Yeah that's him, so funny.

I went to MW yesterday and it was soooo packed..never been that packed before..I only got 7 rides (WWW once, LW once and Superman five) because the lines were just terrible..well not terrible but I was only there for 3 hours (and fyi I had to go out somewhere since my friend I am staying with had to work from 12-4 and other friend went and picked up her friend from the GC since we're doing a road trip together) I'm very impressed with Superman, I didnt think it'll be as good as it was and I really like the locker idea and how it's serperate from the line up. Waiting in line was a little nervous because these girls behind me were like "I hava headache from the smoke" and I was like "smoke?" and how i reall pushes your body into the seats on take off hehe but it's really awesome..but I had to stop going it after 5 times in a row because it made me sick (like thatfeeling) and my head was spinning but it's so so awesome. I love how there are two cars as well but it was a little hard for me to pull down the harness since it's so heavy but going over the top hat andthan twisting a bit hurt the first time (because I didnt know it actually twisted) but great air time andthe view was very very awesome. The camel hump after the top hat omg you get pushed into your seat and if you have your arms up they get pushed down hehe. Was suprised to see they take photos haha!! took me forever to figure out where (and I totally forgot someone mentioned it on this site) but yeah it's an awesome awesome ride, cant wait to come back up on Feb 21st and go on it. The line up goes down quickly like Scooby and the way the guy was doing it today was very quick and I LOOOOOOOOOOOOVED how he told everone who went under the bars off heheh he was like "do you think it's neded to jump under the bars or do you think you could just walk around and not be lazy?" The themeing was very cool especially the earth quake bit and I love how there are two entrances because it kinda ties the back of the park near LW/SDSC in with the front and it provides a good shortcut to those area's.

I cant comment on any parks apart from MW, DW, WNW, Sea World and both Luna Parks because that's all I've been too but I've never said that themeing does not make the park or the ride I just that in my opinion I dont care for themeing at all, of course it makes the ride look nice and crap but it does not make the ride for me, I dont go on a ride because I like the themeing, I go on it because I like the ride...of course if you go on the rides for the themeing or whatever than that is your thing. Disneyland I am sure is a great theme park and Walt Disney spent alot of money and time to make sure it's the best in the world and the Disney's continue to do so today but as I have said I've never been there so I wont comment on any of those parks. I actually like Scooby's themeing if you read my post I think it's probably the best themed ride at MW and the ride itself is done in such a way that it's a long ride but the que time usually is not that long but I could def ride Scooby without the themeing. The Road Runner coaster has hardly any themeing but it's still a nice ride and from what people have said SE does not have much/good themeing but they still love the ride so thats my argument and my opinion.
-
Just because he doesnt like themeing doesnt mean he aint a enthusiast! an enthusiast can be someone who likes riding rides not just liking the themes you dont have to be so rude about it and calling him a fool and saying he aint a enthusiast. I cant wait to ride SE in 23 days, I dont care for themeing at all, as long as it's a great ride themeing doesnt matter although I do love the themeing for Scooby and Wild West but that's not why I ride them and I spend more time touching the themeing than admiring it really.

Have to say I agree with some of your points but it is just a website at the end of the day - it doesnt effect whether or not the person rides the ride or visists the park. With the javascript thing, I dont know why people bother with that because it doesnt even work in firefox if you disable javascript so it's just a waste of a code really and anyone can get stuff off the web just print screen it if its a picture or highlight the text and ctrl+v if its text.
