  1. At least 2 years? That's terrible news if it's correct. I'm sorry but as great as the park is it is just too small meanwhile Wet 'n' Wild is adding new attractions all the time. As I have been saying they don't need to go ahead with the full expansion at once but at least add ONE new attraction. The park is in desperate need of a lazy river for example. The park has had higher than expected attendance although it should be noted attendance hardly grew at all over the last year. They are going to need to boost the attraction line up or else it is only going to go down. Not good enough! I for one won't be returning until the park adds something new. I certainly hope this doesn't mean Dreamworld is adding no new rides for 2 years either
  2. Totally agree with you there. White Water Mountain and the Terror Canyon slides were Wet 'n' Wild's first themed attractions. And what a great job they did of it. This was followed up with Calypso Beach - again another well themed and presented attraction. I remember seeing the brochure as a kid and loving the graphics showing 2 guests in an inflatable boat plunging through a waterfall at the exit to the mountain. It made me want to visit the park - the first time I'd ever had that desire. I have been very concerned with the very basic nature of the more recent additions to Wet 'n' Wild (H20 Zone for example). Certainly no theming and very minimal presentation. It takes away from the atmosphere. Here's hoping they either restore the Terror Canyon's to their original states or replace with something of a similar standard
  3. Are you speaking with some insider knowledge on this or is this just your personal opinion?
  4. Here's hoping we see at least part of the expansion happen this year. Even if they just built one of the planned new attractions with the rest to follow in later years. I know that Macquarie Leisure (like most companies right now) is actively trying to reduce their debt levels. I believe they have a reasonable and manageable level of borrowings, but nonetheless want to improve their balance sheet anyway. I'm just wondering whether this will impact on this planned expansion. Or perhaps the cost has already been factored in
  5. Why are they doing this? I don't get it
  6. It opens soon. Will they really have enough time to build this thing??
  7. It's still heading in the wrong direction if they think this is a decent addition instead of a new ride. However I was thinking about it and it seems Dreamworld have a policy of adding a new ride once every 3 years with filler (cheaper) attractions added in the years in between. It is possible then that this is a filler attraction with a new ride potentially being introduced in 2010, considering that Motocoaster was added in 2007. If this is the case and Dreamworld adds a new ride in 2010 AND it's of a higher standard than Motocoaster (and preferably not another sports/racing related addition) then from my point of view that would be far more acceptable. Although 3 years between every new ride does seem a bit long... particularly when the last new ride was the disappointing Motocoaster
  8. Exactly... couldn't agree more. The days of Village Roadshow putting lots of effort into theming their new attractions seems to be - sadly - gone
  9. Even if the laser tag ends up being included with admission I am still totally against it. In my opinion it can only be considered a sideshow similar to a gaming arcade area... and certainly not a main or drawcard attraction
  10. It also looks like the last remnants of any theming in Ocean Parade are going to be wiped out... obviously Dreamworld has decided to ditch the themed areas concept which is very disappointing. In regards to my idea for a petition - glad to see it has some support. I don't know if I'd be the best person to put one together though as my knowledge of web formatting is limited. We would certainly want it to appear as professional as possible, preferably put together with input from users from this forum
  11. I'm a little concerned about this. Does anyone else think there is a possibility WWW will not go ahead with these plans now that we have discussed them so much and they have been made very public? Theme parks in Australia are normally really hush hush about new attractions as they are worried about competition. I certainly hope they go ahead with the expansion as the planned rides/attractions would make a great and much needed addition
  12. It was my ultimate fear that Dreamworld would go down this path. I could tell the management were really excited by the idea of pay as you go 'attractions' and 'experiences' as opposed to actual rides. It's really sad. I think we should set up a proper petition asking Dreamworld to head back in the direction of a true theme park again. I'm sure they would pay attention if they got a number of signatures and realised how worried everyone is. No more racing simulators! No more interactive sporting attractions! No more laser tag or bowling alleys!
  13. Just wondering if anyone has any idea if the Government stimulus helped our theme parks over the peak Christmas period? Considering families were getting $1000 per child handed to them, did many of them use some of this to visit the parks? I certainly hope so. Those of you who are in younger families perhaps you can share your experiences and if the extra money your parents got went towards a theme park holiday?
  14. I can sort of understand why they didn't go ahead with the expansion last year considering most companies were trying to reduce their debt due to the financial crisis. I certainly hope we do see some work soon though. The park is crying out for expansion. In my opinion they don't even need to go ahead with the full expansion at once. A staged introduction could work well. Perhaps start with the lazy river next year. Then the following year introduce one of the new waterslide attractions and so on. They could get more bang for their buck this way and at the same time keep capital costs lower
  15. I have to say that I really like Dreamworld and WhiteWater World's new 'Get drenched/Get dry' campaign. In particular the brochure and park map are really effective. Whoever created the artwork of the various people half wet at WWW and then the other half dry at Dreamworld did a really good job. I think it takes us back to the high standards of theme park marketing. I also noticed WhiteWater World recently launched a new website. It is a massive improvement over the last one. The design is just so much more professional. I love all the details in the graphics including the small touches like the sand, thongs and water at the footers of some of the pages. They have really incorporated the theming of WWW into the website which I love to see
  16. Hahaha you're right on the money Gazza! My only concern is that someone from Dreamworld management will see this poll and think it's serious. They probably will end up getting some batting cages installed as the next major attraction. As someone else said in another thread, it's about time Dreamworld realised people go there for the RIDES. The sooner they realise this and get over their delusions that they can draw in more people with video games, bowling alleys and sporting facilities the happier everyone will be!
  17. The term 'family entertainment centre' usually relates to a facility (often indoors) with various 'attractions' such as video games, bowling, laser skirmish etc. Usually they don't have any major rides just a series of pay-as-you-go features. Think of the Main Event centres Maquarie Leisure owns in America
  18. This will probably be similar to an M9 laser skirmish which some of the Macquarie Leisure owned AMF Bowling Centres have. It certainly sounds like it will be another upcharge attraction and nothing exciting that's for sure. What are Dreamworld doing? Trying to convert the place from a theme park into a bowling/family entertainment centre? No thanks!
  19. It's funny how we haven't heard much more about this ride since it opened. There has not been much recent discussion on here and the only vids of it on Youtube are Gazza's. I seem to remember Dreamworld's Motocoaster generating much more interest. This surprises me as it seems Jet Rescue is a much better ride. Surely the marketing of motocoaster and it's link with motoracing and Mick Doohan wasn't actually successful?
  20. I walked past today and the temporary flume ride attraction was quite busy. I can understand why as it was such a hot day. The rest of the park didn't seem overly busy but the flume had a decent sized queue. As far as temporary additions go I think this ride is a good one. I always thought Luna Park was lacking a water ride and was hoping they might bring back the River Caves one day. I do not like temporary attractions in a permanent fun park but if they insist on doing this then I think the flume was a good choice. It helps to diversify the parks offerings from just spin and spew rides
  21. I'm glad to hear WWW is doing so well... as it should be. They did such a great job with the place and the slides are just plain fun. I think this shows that the planned expansion is much needed though. Hopefully they will go ahead with it soon and give the park some extra capacity
  22. Very disappointing regarding the fire being turned off in Bermuda. That now means 2 of my favourite ride finales are now gone (Bermuda and Wild West Falls)
  23. It looks like this ride has turned out quite well. Judging by the latest photos it seems that the landscaping/theming is quite good afterall. You made a good point Gazza regarding most other roller coasters not having any landscaping throughout the ride at all. I like the animatronic seal. Like you Gazza, I am also not a fan of painted murals but I think in this case it works quite well. I think it looks nice having a depiction of the ocean in the background and adds to the effect. Particularly as they have included 3D elements such as rock walls etc. The only things I'm disappointed about are the main building, queue area and entry signage. As with DW's motocoaster they seem to have done it on the cheap with temporary looking buildings and basic shade structures over the queueing area. I also think it is a real shame that the main signage at the entry to the ride is very basic and 2D. I like to see signs with 3D elements, interesting lettering and good theming. Anything else is not doing the attraction justice. Hopefully this is just a temporary measure and proper signage and entry theming will be built in the near future
  24. I agree - it should be called JetSKI Rescue and not just Jet Rescue. Shame about the theming but the speed of the ride is definitely a positive
