  1. We have discussed the idea of getting rid of that waterpark quite a bit before and I guess there is a possibility that it is actually happening. Either that or hopefully a major upgrade/refurb. The slide tower is going to closed indefinitely? I assume that means it's not coming back. It looks like a relic from the late 1970's so good riddance I say

  3. Wow surely this is big news. Why haven't we heard more about it previously? More details anyone?
  4. I believe the main reason for closing Scooby's Silly Stix was simply cost. Sunway decided that it was not necessary to maintain the attraction and pay staff wages. It was all part of the famous Sunway cut backs. I may be wrong but judging by an old brochure I think Baby Bumpers used to be called Dino's Derby and had little Flinstone's themed cars. I think they replaced these stoneage cars with the more generic and badly moulded cars when it was moved to Botany Bay and renamed Baby Bumpers

  6. Oh yeah, that's the other thing - they need nicely themed signage. I assume that's still coming
  7. I have to say I'm just not getting what's going on with the whole naming/theming/design/everything of this new ride/area. I was hoping my doubts would be proved wrong but so far they are not... Why is the control room bright sky blue? Why is there a big 2D painted wall with a jungle scene on it? Why is this bizarre theme so close to Ocean Parade and what is going to separate this area from Ocean Parade (they should at least erect themed entry gates to signify the different areas similar to Goldrush Country's entry)? Why are they adding a mini golf course? Why are there various random poles everywhere? Oh yeah and have they started to theme that ugly metallic op booth yet? PS Yes I am still in support of the gyro swing as a new attraction but not sure about the way it is being implemented
  8. You can see how much better the ride looked at Luna Park than it does now at Dreamworld. And take it from someone who has been on the ride, the actual ride experience was much better at Luna Park too. It fitted in perfectly with the layout and provided amazing views. The best part was probably the sidewinder which weaved right out the back behind Coney Island (now 'Maloney's Corner'). It even looks taller at Luna Park. Does anyone know if Dreamworld reduced its height?
  9. Scott - there is a difference between photos of a ride that's still very much under construction and a ride that's almost finished with all theming and most signage in place etc.
  10. MORE animal attractions? Boring. I understand that this is an important part of Sea World's focus but it'd be nice if they would balance it out a little more eg. new animal exhibit, new ride, new animal exhibit, new ride etc.
  11. Free fall? No way. Unless it had something really special about it and some great theming. Wet 'n' Wild is more about modern fun these days rather than 1970's/80's pain
  12. That's fine Slick. Just don't say you're going to do it in the first place if you're not going to follow through. I have no problem with you doing other things which don't involve roller-coaster.com.au but I just hate false promises. That's all... no big deal
  13. Interesting to hear about the mini putt putt. So maybe the area is going to be classified as a separate jungle themed 'world' with the Claw and Putt Putt. Seems like a pretty small world. Much like Ocean parade was when it was just the Stingray and Wipeout. Re Wild West Falls. Does this mean that the gust of wind and smoke from the 'exploding' TNT barrel in the final room is still not functioning?
  14. Slick you are all talk and no action. For the last few months you have been telling us that you will be uploading various photos etc but it never happens. Feel free to make this the exception
  15. A definite improvement. I was a bit worried there while the change-over was happening as the forums didn't match up with the new site layout and the tables were a bit skewed. Ofcourse it's all been fixed now... thanks to Richard and his eye for detail. I still don't really get the main graphical heading though. I know Rich once told me it was a roller coaster but I just can't see it
  16. There are a couple of pictures but they are from a distance and not too clear. You are right about it looking similar to a Galaxi. The strange thing about it is that the upright supports look quite minimal and there don't seem to be many supports between the rails. It almost looks like it could fall down easily. I would highly recommend my Luna Park book to anyone who is interested as it contains the full history and tons of old photographs from the beginning right through to the 80's. I spoke to the Luna Park retail shop a little a while ago and apparantley an updated version is currently being worked on and should be available by the end of the year. You can phone them up to check up when it actually arrives. So tell us a little bit about what it was like working at Luna Park in the 80's. That is the park I vaguely remember from my childhood. I know that it wasn't a great attempt at a fun park as I think the owners had other ideas in mind for redevlopment into apartments etc (as usual). It was mostly a bunch of pretty standard carnival style rides and a pretty average layout. It was still kinda fun and scary though. The one thing I remember liking is the cinema 360 thing. I also have a photo from when I was about 4 on a little boat flume ride for kids

  18. I have an extract from my Luna Park history book (Just for Fun, Sam Marshall) about the installation of the Wild Cat. It then talks about it's removal and the addition of the Geronimo when the park re-opened under new owners in the early 80's - 'In 1970, under Ted Hopkins' supervision, the Wild Cat was built by Girvan Bros to replace the Wild Mouse because of its greater capacity. Plans and specifications for the Wild Cat were bought in Germany. Its construction was complex as the size of the ride had to be reduced to fit on the Wild Mouse slab and because of Australian steel, being in imperial dimensions, was used for a ride of German metric specifications. Extensive brakes had to be added to pull the cars up... On 3 June 1981 Col Goldstein entered the site and began deomolition. The Wild Cat and Carousel were dismantled and removed... Ten million dollars bought a second-hand roller coaster called the Geronimo (underneath which were dodgems, games and a shooting gallery)'
  19. What is with the 'jungle' painted wall? There's nothing I hate more in a theme park than a 2D painted wall. That sort of thing should be reserved for vacant shop hoardings in shopping centres, not theme parks. It surprises me even more when the wall is probably going to be permanent. Overall I like the idea of jungle theming but how on earth is it going to work stuck in the middle of Ocean Parade and Main Street? Is it going to be a whole new (tiny) themed area? It doesn't make sense
  20. Great gallery Rich but what I'd really love to see is some more Australian park photos for Roller-Coaster.com.au. I've noticed that many of our own Aussie rides don't have any pics at all. It'd be great to see a full database at some stage, with pics of even the smaller various flat rides etc.
  21. Tomb Raider was a big success? What's wrong with the Australian public when a theme park WALK-THRU attraction turns out to be so popular? The success of The Claw better be even bigger otherwise I just don't get it
  22. Can I just add to my last post by saying that if Dreamworld was to add any type of decent new coaster I'd be happy overall. I always like to have a bit of a whinge if I can, but if Dreamworld does dive straight into the coaster variations and goes with a B&M flyer next up... I can't say I'd be too upset
  23. I think before Dreamworld gets a crappy looking flying coaster (like Paramount has just done... and made it even worse with unrelated theming), they first need to get a REAL roller coaster. Something simple and something very large. We need a mammoth lift hill. After they install this they can then look at various alternative coaster options such as flyers. This would definitely reduce the need to add 2 trains to Cyclone as it would become more of a filler attraction
  24. I just finished reading an article in today's Herald which mentioned the rather large increase in Dreamworld's attendance and therefore profit. They mainly attributed this to Big Brother (as no new rides were added last financial year). I just hope that attendance increases even more this year with The Claw which will in turn encourage them to add more rides. Otrherwise, they might try to focus more on Big Brother and similar attractions rather than thrill rides
