1. OMG, pick a side and stay there. Seriously, what PattieBoi may not realise (because as far as I can remember he's too busy getting bling from his girlfriends) is that "things" can hold a centimental value. It's kind of why people don't like to move from one house to another, because it contains thousands of memories that people wish to cherish. Do I need to do any more similar situations in this thread or do you get the big picture?
2. "..When you say "thing" are you talking about that coaster that makes Dreamworld's coasters look like a sunday afternoon drive with Martha Stewart..." You guys seriously need to ease up on the Superman Escape thing and stop making it into gods fantastic gift to the earth. Seriously, as much as its a great coaster, comparing it to Cyclone is like comparing Thunderbolt to a log flume. Seriously, I've been getting way too many people complain about how much this community baffles on about Superman: Escape. Ben "and besides, Dreamworld will make Movie World look like Clementon soon anyway" Roach.
3. Rather than ranting, let me just say something calmly, these systems that VERY large parks use is because they need to co-ordinate large crowds of people efficiently to maximise the greatest possible capacity from their attractions. The problem with Dreamworld is that they have poor capacity that can be improved, and not tremendous crowds, so realistically a system like that is pointless if a simple capacity improvement can be done.
4. Lol, funny you should say about that stench.... Yeah, definitely my favourite part of the ride is when you're looking straight ahead as you swing down. If you want a good sneak peak at what I mean make sure to grab the seats closest to the main ride booth, they'll get you to that magical place I call "airtime" the quickest.
5. I'd definitely raise my glass to that one.
6. Yeah, they did say December to the press but I suppose they decided to get all the workers on SE so they could get that thing finally working.
7. I think for the people who had close memories of the park, it still is a very centimental thing. It'd be like saying "how could you not love your cat if it didn't love you. It's gone, you're not gonna get back you frieking tool!" ....Nice people in the world these days huh. But still, I can see that for those people who want to have a get together on a road next to the park and tell WLS stories to like two other strangers is a little... weird.
8. Aha, my ideas do rock huh? Nah, nice work Gazza.
9. Lol, some of you guys are seriously whacked out. How many top grade australian park employees would risk their own job for something like a cheap ass phone or camera? I can understand maybe the local general public from the area (you know what suburbs) but I mean an employee? Out of the ENTIRE time that I have been to say Dreamworld for example and left a bag filled with 2k's worth of camera equipment have I never had a stolen article. From Wipeout to Cyclone, never has an employee or even a guest taken anything from my bags. I still totally agree with willsy here though, paying money to stick your items in a locker when the other parks have built better item management systems for rides FOR FREE seems rediculous to me. Maybe have outside a daily locker hire area on top of a Wipeout-esque system for item storage would be feasible, then again, they wouldn't want to "copy" anything from Dreamworld huh?
10. Roller-Coaster.com.au : Now featuring Australia's only Discrimative Coaster Enthusiasts forum!
11. Having two stations is a good idea, except for the fact that the DWWP will have a seperate entry system to DW, meaning people could easily jump the fare to get in. Never the less the roller-soakers are definitely a good idea to have around a beach area, unless it's like Carowinds where they have it running over bland pathways and whatnot, basically ruining the fun of the ride.
12. At least they didn't do an episode over at "Piss Weak World".
13. That saying is for people who don't have enough time to come up with something sarcastic. Enough said. Also, unless your a 13 year old teen, I don't think that you need an emoticon to show that it's a joke, especially when Bussy's quality of posts are up to scratch, alot more than other people (not you Diannasaurus) too might I add. So with these Humphrey shows, where exactly were they filmed? Out in the open or was there a particular area where it was hosted?
14. Nice Joz. Kenny, seriously, don't twist my words in future firstly, it gets really irritating. What I said was Dreamworld will never get a coaster like TOT in terms of height and speed again, not "they won't ever get a tall or fast coaster ever again", geese, maybe if I put a couple of spelling mistakes in you would've picked that up? And yes, I know that what John Menzie said might've been a bit stupid, but it doesn't mean he wouldn't say it again buddy if something like that happened, unless we're living in some kind of parallel universe where koalas run the show.
15. KennyKoala old son, do you have any reasons to back up your little rant? Seriously, I must've said this a million times now that Dreamworld will never get another high speed/large height coaster again, come on buddy, as if a park would waste mega bucks on targetting an audience of people who already come to the park for Tower of Terror. Doesn't make much sense to me. So basically they'd be laughing, but it wouldn't be a happy "hysteric" laughing, that's for sure. And I think the people over at WVTP would say the same thing they did when Dreamworld made the media release about the water park... "It's just a clone of what we do."
16. Very well said. I mean, knowing alot of people in the sorrounding area, I know there are some serious, how we say, "idiots" around, but it's fairly embarrassing, as a somewhat youth to see that sort of crap being posted on the site. I think the only good thing about the site is the fact that the site's... uhhmmm... well there's that, now wait, that was Dreamworld's... oh yeah, nah... Nah, it's inefficient, filled with unproffessional web designers and heck, it sucks.
17. Lol, I don't even think those 250ml could lubricate a quarter of the slide hehe let alone actually make a splash.
18. Because of A ) After doing this for several years you just now and B ) Attendence history.
19. Try Mondays or Thursdays, generally on a weekly average they're usually the lowest days for queue lines during the packed summer holidays. Also, remember to get in there early (make sure you're in the park by 9:30am) and make sure you hit your favourite rides first. But if anything, I'd definitely go to either Giant Drop or Cyclone first to avoid some hefty queue lines later in the day.
20. You gotta love how the lighting on that ride really illuminates that block of appartments as it swings past.
21. Such as continue to build more permanant attractions? I think you're all getting some lines mixed up here. Parks build attractions to bring in more attendance, and when the park becomes full again, they build another attraction. The circle of life continues. Thing is, some rides don't have great capacity (look at Cyclone for example) so a park could be bringing in larger numbers of crowds for a new attraction but would be only able to cycle through a few. That's called a capcity issue. Dreamworld did a promotion back in 1998 (I think, it's around there) which was the extend play campaign. Basically, they stuck some extra carnival rides in behind the bowling area where the "Nick to Tiger Island entrance" resides and sort of made it into a free crowd dissapator, so to speak. Thing is though, that was ONLY ever a promotion that would most probably happen no more than once, especially with a public trading company with hundreds if not thousands of share holders to keep happy. In the very current situation, where Dreamworld has got an overall expansion budget of 270 million big ones, why would you think they would use the same marketing campaing all over again and try to draw the same "non existent" crowds that used those extra rides in the first place? With the amount of money that they have, why not put in a seasonal attraction that's actually decent? I'm looking at it this way, at least they're not using the "double play" campaign all over again... anyone feel like waiting for Cyclone for oh I dunno... four hours?
22. I was referring more to "ride based fatalities" but a loss is still a loss. And this person who apparently fell out of one of the Skylink carriages was obviously an idiot anyway. Even someone like me who does things like bunjee jumping and whatnot and who sill goes to the park fairly often has fealt uneasy about that ride when the cables started to jump up and down from some tosser teenagers in front swaying around and acting like fools. Insurance nightmare in the end for those lovely little steel rod "restraints" though.
23. Very interesting stuff. To my first hand knowledge, while all the Gold Coast parks haven't had any fatalities, there's been some very close shaves, such as the Thunderbolt first loop incident where riders "nearly" got stuck upside down when something like a wheel shattered, but even alot of the situations that you do see on the news are very over-rated. Two events come close to mind when the Skylink chairlifts at Dreamworld got hit by strong winds and a tree fell onto one of the support beams. Of course no one was even scratched by the tree, but the media certainly drew out the "long amount of time for the cherry picker to reach each of the 40 carriages.." even those there was about four pickers and about 16 people on the ride. The other was some of the Wipeout incidents that left riders upside down. Thing is, you can easilly manually overide the Wipeout in an emergency situation so the locking pins are detatches and it naturally flips up. Still, thirty minutes upside down and everyone survived? Gee, no head trauma that one.
24. I haven't been down there recently to see at what extent this construction has done to the entrance building, but from what it looks like, it might just be a small building refitting and queue system re-design, which means definitely around the start of January, but if its something much more major, chances are this could pan out to be a small time consuming process. Richard, was there any interior demolition or is the main work going on the exterior of the buildings and removal of the old ticket booths?
