  1. from my understanding of the ride and the way the magnets work to move the train, if the computers froze then the train would not get up enough speed to get that far up the tower. And if they did the magnets would not be able to change polarity for the train on the reverse run and it would try to send the train back up the track. I think that I have siad this wrong. The train would only make it just out of the tunnell if the computers froze. The reason is that the computers, using a sensor system and a plc computer setup, allow the first half of the magnet to be the same polarity of the train and the second half to be the reverse. This way the magnets pull-push the train over them. And then they reverse for the ride back. If the computers froze then this cannot happen and the train would just die and go no where. The only way for the ride to reach those speeds is if the computers allowed to much voltage to flow though the magnets, ( they are called electro-magnets for a reason), and thus getting a faster speed. Will check with an old friend who teaches this at tech collage for the new apprentices and get his view on this. I know that he was shown the ride before it opened and is also a fan of these types of rides so will let you all know soon.
  2. PM richard and he will help you out with the info that you need
  3. The other reason that the movie is not going ahead, that richard stated a little is the lack of a leading man. Many have said that it is due to the so called curse of supermand in which almost all the actors who played the superman role have had little sucess or a bad accident in their life. The role was offered to Josh Harnet, who turned it down like others due to the contract being a 3 picture deal. These actors do not wish to comment to such a deal in case of missing out on something better. This and the before mentioned reason with the director that Richard stated has put the movie production back, but they are still looking and I believe that the movie may be filmed on the Gold Coast Studios at WBMW. Now back to the coasters.
  4. We all hope that it is a sign of things to come, but it could just be due to superman being at the park sense it opened.
  5. Richo will correct me if I am wrong, but the rides fassest speed is at 106mph and this was during testing. Not sure what this comes to in kph but i'm sure if the ride did the 180kph it would allmost hit the brakes on the top of the tower.
  6. Richard, you have a few good points there but you forgot to mention the important thing that is Different between the parks and that is the opening date or how long the park has been open. While the parks that you mentioned, (Universal) have being open for quite a few years (uncertain of how long), WBMW have only been open for the last ten years and proberly don't have anywhere near the budjet that these other parks have. Are we asking a bit to much of the park to put in two large thrill rides back to back? I am still hopefully that the next ride is coming by the end of this year and that it will be a coaster of some sort, but i am not holding my breath.
  7. was unable to get into contact with the park last week so will try to talk to them next week.
  8. Joz, received a few wild e-mails about a possible Wicked Twister style ride to be built at the park within the next two years. Are you able to shead any light on this for us. The rumor puts the ride along the road on the same side of the park, or a wild one with the ride built outside the main entry with a walkway from inside the park for the entry. While this would be great for the park, I don't think that these ones are true.
  9. A wild rumor was sent to me this week reguarding a water coaster being built at wetnwild. This got me thinking about the normal things. The location of the ride, where the station would be and the entry, what style of water coaster, and the layout of the ride. This is a style of ride that I do not know a lot about, but any style of coaster in Oz is good. Any thoughts anyone and remember this is only a rumor.
  10. It is not really the paint that stops the rust, but the undercoating of rust protection that went onto the Cyclone before the outside paint. This was explained to me by the painters during the reconstruction of Cyclone. If you looked at Twistedrails websites at the time you would have seen my pictures almost every week. This showed the undercoating going on. However, you are sort of correct with the re-painting stopping the rust. The anti-rust coating is good only for a certain time once exposed to the weather. The oil/grease on the track also helps a little. the re-painting of the track is to help the anti-rust paint to last longer. At least this is how it was explained to me at the time of Cyclone's repainting. If you do still have pictures of the Cyclone's repainting, look for the grey paint on the track before the yellow went on.
  11. Sorry Richo but I have to disagree, the war did have a bad effect on the tourist industry. When you think about were the war was, and the history of this countries extremists bombing of planes, it would stop a lot of ppl from flying anywere if at all. The latest bombings overseas highlight this point, even though they are not on aircraft locations, they are targeted against westerners. It may only last for a short time but it does effect the industries that rely on tourists and will for a short while longer. But this is just my opion.
  12. I agree that this is not a fued Richo, but it is nice to "heat things up" every now and then. As for the B&M thing, we will let it lie, but things are called impossible until someone does them and that is the point that I am making. As I said before, we can always dream can't we, might make a thread for that.
  13. What makes you think that the crew at B&M would not like to take this as a challenge. And you are only thinking small again Richo. Put yourself in their shoes and think 10 to 15 years down the road. If B&M where able to design a track for attachment to standard old coaster tracks like the bolt, then think of the money making opertunitys that it creates for them in the future with parks who may have a two looper in a large area. They then get B&M to come along with the new design track that allows the B&M track to fit say an arrow track and it opens more doors for B&M to make money from. And remember that with these types of companies it is all about the bottom dollar. And as for the list of coasters given to you by the parks cheif engineer, what makes you think that they are going to give away any of the parks future projects to the public and if they tell you anything, why tell you the truth anyway. It does not help the parks if thy tell their competers what they are getting next, two years before it happens, does it? MY THOUGHTS are that the Bolt will be removed to another section of the park (the big brother area is my first thought) and that the area where the Bolt is now will be turned into the Plaza area that everyone is talking about. This will allow the park to make any changes to the Bolt while it is being moved. For a park that can spend up to $20million on one ride, they have not spent there money for some years so what ever happens, it is going to be big.
  14. Well I guess your tune has changed. First you are all praise about the park and the great new style rides that it puts out and even get some free publicity for your self from the parks tv adds for the Scooby Doo Ride, and now you have nothing to say about the park that is good. Your haveing more moods swings than a pregent woman and trust me I know about that. If you are going to have something to say about the park that is this bad, then send it to the park. But then again, you really don't need to as the parks look at your fourms every week for themselfs anyway,( at least the contacts within the parks that I have do.) Instead of putting the parks down, give them ideas as to how to improve the park and this will enable the park to build/expand in a way that will bring the public back to the park and will also make it a better place for all. As an old teacher of mine said, "If you don't have anything good to say, then say nothing at all".
  15. I think that you are going to be disapointed Richo, as it is looking alot like a show and a lot less like a ride. That is what my money is on.
  16. Now Now Boys, No fighting please as you yourself has said lately Richo. It is possible that B&M could desing a new style of trakc to suit the current track on the coaster. There is no rule book that states a company cannot change the way they design rides if there is a call for it. This is how major companies survive in todays market. So if the parks ask for it to be done, the designers have to think of a way for it do be done so that they can make money. Never say never to a person with a overactive imagination and a limit of about $20million dollars to spend. This is how X was created. We can only wait and see what happens. By the way the rumors that you are all quoting about thunderbolt, were brought to your attention by yours truly about 6 to 12 months ago. And after talking with the park none of them are true at this stage as nothing has been confirmed and this comes from the park itself. But that is just my opion so please contiune this little chat of yours. I wonder if the King has anything to add??
  17. OK Boycotya you have my attention. The issues that you have raised in the other fourm, I will be bringing to light with my monthly talk with the park this week. I do not let the park know where I get my sources from, I only ask if they can confirm or denigh the info. If you want to e-mail me with any rumors that I can ask the park about then my e-mail is as follows wcurrie@ozattractions.com.au Send your questions for the park here and I will ask for you and then post replys on the Wonderland Thread. Will make the call on Friday the 9th of May. Till next time,
  18. Hey Boycotta, get your facts straight about something before you type it. Sorry about this Richo but I gotta say this and you know I am right. The rides power useage is not measured in volts for a start. Most of the rides all use 3 phase power which is 415volts constant. If you want to see what the ride uses then you require the wattage of the ride. You use the standard math of Amps x Volts over Power. So if your ride uses 240 volts and draws 20 amps then it uses 4800watts of electricity. How to I know this you might ask....I AM A ELECTRICAN and have been for the last 8 years. And as for the info that I get...IT comes straight from the public releations office of the park. I also know other info about the park, but gave my word to the park not to say anything until it becomes public. The key word here ppl is research and reson....not just rumor.
  19. ok after a long chat with the park, the carparks are still in wonderlands hands and have not been sold. The wildlife area is not expanding at this time due to lack of permits. The permits the park has at this time allow only a certain amount of animals to be held. Any change in the number of animals would require a new permit or the current one altered. Still not been told as to what the construction site office is for. I put this to you from someone with a background in construction. If you were to own a park and the major thing with these parks is the ability to expand for future groth. Would you sell a main part of the park for a factory to be build next to you? Not only does it take away the expansion abilitys of the park, but it brings down the prce of the park straight away just by haveing the factory there. This is not what you want to have happen. As soon as I get more info from the PARK ITSELF and not a park enployee, I will let you know.
  20. The more places to post Aussie construction the better in my books. So if you are going to send me any pictures, remember that they might end up here anyway. Have fun
  21. Ok it has come from the park that there is something coming for X-Mas and it has something to do with Marvel. If any one in Sydney is able to take pictures to document the/any construction then email me at wcurrie@ozattractions.com.au and we will post your pictures. The more the merrier.
  22. I'm with you Joz. I think that a launched coaster would work if done right. Think of the launched coaster with the most inversions in the world....Record Beater. Plus the lenght spent in line would be less due to no lift hill. Also you can build it in a more compact space as there is no lift hill required, and if needed the launch can be built underground, again saving land used in the park Picture this...the ride starts as a launched style and shoots you underground only to come up into a fenced area holding all of the looping elerments in a small section of land and then goes back underground to the station area. This would allow for another attraction/shops to be built on top of the underground station. And if you want to get very tricky, you have sections of the launch track as a clear lidded area, like heavy duty perplex to cover the track so that those to young to ride can see the train fly past their feet and be completely safe. This may only be me dreaming out loud at this time, but you have to ask yourselfs when the parks run out of room for their rides, is this something that the parks will do due to no space. Food for the mind.
  23. After talking to the park, it seems that there might be something to the Matrix rumors after all. Please remember that I am going on the tone of voice that the person was using during the conversation. The person semed very surprised that I would now about the matrix news but after the first shock, all i got was the normal no comment. Heres hoping.
  24. If you wish for it, it will come. That is all I can say.
