  1. So Matt, do you think this new coaster is something to get excited about, or will it be a bit of a let down for us? I thought it would be a ball coaster as well...oh well. My guess is either an Aqua Trax or a Half Pipe. Edit...jsut realised Matt said it doesnt use water...I guess that kills the possibility of an Aqua Trax.
  2. ^I agree; I think theme parks and residential areas should stay away from each other. If housing developments start getting built to close to Dreamworld (or any theme park), eventually the residents will start complaining about the noise. I think people moving in close to theme parks should have to sign a waiver or something saying that they acknowledge there will be a considerable amount of noise from the coasters and rides. Also, this kinda reminds me of the SFMM thing, where the land around the park is more valuable as real estate than a theme park. Hope they never sell off the GC parks because they'd make more money building houses there. But on the topic, I think Dreamworld should definitley be permitted to build their Citywalk thing there, I mean, better a shopping centre than a bunch of houses.
  3. Thanks joz. Having not been to SW for a few years now, I was wondering if this land out the front of the carpark is the large vacant lot south of the carpark? (I'm using Google Earth). Sorry if it's a dumb question, but it would be weird if they did use that land, considering it's on the other side of the parking lot, wouldnt it?
  4. I was just reading through some of the other threads in the Sea World forum and found this: Maybe a clue of the location of the new attraction?
  5. I think it could be an impulse coaster. After all, the only information given was that the coaster is Intamin, and launched, so an impulse coaster fits that description. Impulse coasters take up hardly any space, so one could probably fit in well with Sea World. But I have to admit Coaster Boy, an Intamin Aqua Trax would be pretty awesome!
  6. I couldnt help but notice in Richards signature there was a link to Sea Worlds new 'unconfirmed' Intamin launched coaster. Personally I think this is pretty exciting news; with Superman Escape last year, Dreamworlds new coaster next year, and now Sea Worlds Intamin coaster, that's 3 coasters in two years. Where do you guys think this new coaster will be put in Sea World? Obviously with Sea Worlds limited space there's only so many places they could put it. Anyway, what do you guys think?
  7. ^Hopefully that'll change next year with the supposed B&M...We can only hope
  8. After visiting LPM recently I have to say, it really is...well...crap. It's basically a sea of asphalt and second-rate carnival rides, and on top of that, it's $7 just for one ride ticket. $7! Also, when I went, the Scenic Railway wasn't even in operation! On school holidays! No wonder the place was deserted; poor operations, horrible scenery, and outrageous prices! Although LPS isn't that much better, at least they have a nice view of the harbour.
  9. IMO that ad's pathetic. You wouldnt even know that they just installed a $12 million coaster. How about a picture of SE, I mean, WTF is with a picture of WWF?!? It's a Superman ad! What were they thinking?!?!
  10. 5 years is to recent? As much as I hate Cyclone and its queue house, the public seems to enjoy it, and I guess as long as it keeps the crowds coming in it's going to stay. After all, it's better than nothing...I guess.
  11. I agree, I don't think Dreamworld needs a Flowrider and a bunch of smaller 'innovative' rides and attractions, I think they need something big; like a new coaster to attract crowds. People aren't going to come from interstate to ride a Flowrider, they'll come from interstate to ride a huge coaster. Everyone knows they are overdue for a new coaster, but the quote "FlowRider is the new breed of innovative rides and attractions coming to Dreamworld" implies that their new breed of rides and attractions will be minor like the Flowrider.
  12. I guess the name's out; according to Ozcoaster it's Batwing. Cant wait for some construction pics...
  13. It's interesting that you found Psyclone to be smooth, I rode it in January, and while it wasn’t quite as rough as I expected, it was pretty bad. But now it’s been retracked, and its apparently much better. Probably not, but while a wooden coaster has been done before in Australia, there’s so many other, more exciting coasters that a park could opt for, that I think would grab the publics attention much more than a wooden coaster. I mean, hypothetically, lets say Dreamworld runs a TV ad marketing their new wooden coaster. Someone might see the ad and think ‘oh, a new wooden coaster, they had one at Wonderland’, whereas when someone sees an ad for something completely new, like a flying coaster, they might think: ‘wow, a flying roller coaster, I’ve never seen or heard of this before, how exciting!’ The point being; everyone knows what a wooden coaster is, and a large portion of people who are potential customers of Dreamworld will have been on one before, at Wonderland. So a wooden coaster wouldn’t be as exciting to the public as something that’s unheard of in this country, like a flyer. That’s why I think a wooden coaster wouldn’t be favoured by Australian parks, because there are just so many more options that would be more appealing to the public.
  14. ^Thats interesting. Although it does seem that wooden coasters are making a comeback internationally, I dont think an Australian park would be interested in them becuase of the larger amount of work/maintenance involved compared to a steel coaster, and therefore larger cost in the long run. Look at Ghostrider; it used to be hailed as one of the best wooden coasters of all time, but now, due to poor maintenance/neglect, people are saying its even rougher than Psyclone at SFMM. Also, I dont think the public sees wooden coasters as safe as steel coasters, probably becuase of the roughness. But thats not to say I wouldnt welcome a woodie, I mean, just look at the success of The Voyage, people love it. I guess all I'm trying to say is I think steel coasters would be favoured over wood by Australian theme parks because of the perception that the public has that wood isnt as safe as steel. But maybe I'm way off, maybe the public would love a wooden coaster (especially one by the Gravity Group, I know I would).
  15. I agree we need a new woodie, but I'm not sure how the GP would look upon it; I mean, when they hear that DW or whatever is getting a new wooden coaster, they're instantly going to think of The Beast, and we all know how good that was. I think a B&M flyer would be perfect in terms of marketability for an Australian park, and one could fit in perfectly with the river area around the back of DW. I mean, am I the only one that thinks a flying coaster would just have so much appeal to the Australian public? Yeah, as for suggestions, put a match to Cyclone.
  16. I totally disagree. Rude operators/staff can completely ruin a day at a theme park, it really bums the guests out when staff are unhelpful or rude. Most of the day you're going to be dealing with staff (rides, food, admission, shops) and its not a lot of fun when they're a**holes. Personally I think MW really needs to work on their ride ops. I have had a few bad experiences with them also, and some of them are just plain rude. Also, I have to agree that Superman Escapes themeing was just laughable, it really was a poor job.
  17. It is good to see that there might actually be some nice theming done to this place, and they're not just gonna chuck down some slides (cough WnW). I noticed one of the electrical contractors is named Norman Disney...Hmm, maybe its a sign that the themeing will be Disney standard...
  18. ^The general public would probably prefer the view from the top of GD, I mean, they couldnt care less about what WnW looks like. As GoBoi said, if they do opt for a shorter version, the GP will probably prefer GD because its 'bigger', and there would be a nicer view from the top. (Assuming MW does go for the shorter version). Anyway, I'm just happy that MW is opening a new ride, and, IMO overtaking DW as the best Aussie park.
  19. Lol, yep, thats basically exactly what it looked like, except for the Six Flags thing on the back.
  20. The Giant Drop is the worlds tallest freefall ride, so it is highly unlikely that Movie World are going to build anything that matches its height, and, as Gazza said, these things cant go that much over 70m anyway.
  21. Some of the discounts on Ebay are actually pretty good, I saw one earlier which was like a $20 discount off normal admission. Having said that, some of them are really crap; like SAVE $2 OFF MOVIE WORLD ADMISSION!!! Buy it Now - $2.50.
  22. I dont think there would be any point in opening a Luna Park in Brisbane, why would people pay heaps for a crappy carny ride when they can go to a world class amusement park 40 minutes away at the Gold Coast? As for Adelaide, there used to be a Luna Park there a looooooong time ago, but it was relocated to make what we now know as Luna Park Sydney.
  23. Well, it will be very interesting to see what he does (if anything) to LPM in the future. Hopefully he'll decide to rip down Metropolis and build a new coaster there (wishful thinking). On a completely unrelated topic, does anyone know whats going on with the Docklands ferris wheel? Just wondering when construction will begin...
  24. Well, it was almost a year ago that he actually purchased the park, and still hasnt done anything with it to this day. I'd say he'll wait a few years and then knock it down.
  25. Yeah, banging your head on the harness would hurt! Last month when I rode SE, although the back was noticeably rougher than the front, it wasnt that bad, or anywhere near as rough as LW. I guess you'll just have to ride closer to the front from now on. Random SE question: Howcome when the ride ops check your restraint the MAKE you hold on to the black handles? I had my hands on my knee and they said I had to hold on to the black handle. I can understand this if I was holding on to the red part of the restraint (which you're not supposed to hold), but I just had my hand on my knee.
