  1. Pukka. As for The Beach tower being made of wood, or having wooden rails, whatever, I’m not sure that they would do that as wood has a nasty habit of rotting when it comes into contact with chlorinated water. That’s not to say that steel doesn't but the rate of decay is much less than that of wood. I’m not saying you’re a liar Shifty, but until I see the video or stills from it I’m not convinced that the structure was wooden. "The Bus is now leaving for Pukatja Homeland, South Australia"
  2. Good work tailsnosthings you found all the full stops that Shifty can't find. "The Bus is now leaving for Mount Fullstop, Queensland"
  3. ASHLEE, that has long been established on this forum. Have a look here. "The Bus is now leaving for Weapons Research Establishment, South Australia"
  4. One problem with that Shifty, The Beach was not built until the 90's (1992 I think) so unless there was another Beach at Wonderland before your video was not from when the park opened. I would like to see some of those photos you have, so if you get a scanner send them to me or get Richard to put them in a gallery. One piece of memorabilia that I did see from another staff member was a Wonderpass from 85 or 86. It's a crappy laminated card but it's great that someone still has something from back then. 5. Yeah I'm with Daniel on this one, no one really cares. But for what its worth I went to the Bathurst Show about 10 years ago and it left me very mentally scared. The main contributor to the emotional damage were the Carney’s running the rides and games. Never before have I encountered a group of people in one place that made me fear my life and the life of my first born child. Looking back on it, it reminds me very much of The Simpson’s episode where they get duped by the Carney’s. "The Bus is now leaving for the After Care Hospital, Victoria"
  6. Shaun you are a deadset champion, that's exactly what I was talking about. Thanks mate. "The Bus is now leaving for Champion Heath, Tasmania"
  7. Hey Alex and welcome to the forum. I am also after any memorabilia, souvenirs etc. Contact me if you have anything with the Wonderland logo on it, old or new. I have been going to start a new thread about it for a while but just haven’t got around to it. "The Bus is now leaving for Smile Of Fortune Creek, Victoria"
  8. Obviously. Another insightful post by Slick. "The Bus is now leaving for Whatmough Park, Victoria"
  9. So what’s your point? Does she complain about the park? Or is she so high while watching South Park that she doesn't notice the sound? To add to Rapster's list, THE BROTHEL WAS THERE FIRST. The Bus is now leaving for Hookers Hut Creek, Tasmania"
  10. Umm Huss, that was me, Bussy who said that not Daniel, you galah. See: Anyway, did you see the fermenters that they moved from the Carlton United Brewery on Broadway recently? Those things were huge. They were transported on low loaders and they each weighed about 100 tonnes. They had a rolling police escort that closed the cross streets as the trucks went along. I find it very hard to believe that any of those rides cannot be broken down into small enough sections so that it can be transported. I mean the whole idea of those rides is that they are made to move around, so why would the manufacturer make them to big to be transported? "The Bus is now leaving for Galahs Roost, South Australia"
  11. It's pretty funny, I know a few of the ride ops there and they have actually had residents come down to the rides, Ranger and Tango particularly, and they go off at the ops telling them to "Turn that F*#$ing ride off it's too loud", or "Stop using the PA". It has happened several times not just once. I guess they have a point, if I paid $4 million for a place I would want some peace and quiet too. But to go off at the staff, that’s just ridiculous. 12. Huss, that’s a load of rubbish. As Gazza said how do they transport things like mining equipment? They usually have to travel early in the morning, 2-3am usually, they also usually have a police escort depending on the size and destination of the vehicle. This also applies to large cranes, 100+ tonners, which are limited to the time they can travel. "The Bus is now leaving for Transportation Spur, NSW"
  13. As an ex-ride operator I can tell you that about 2 years ago the CEO had a meeting with the ride operators telling us of the new rides that were to come into the park. There were going to be 3 new rides by Boxing Day 2002. The first was going to go in Botany Bay, where the shipwreck was (Saturday Session stage was). The second was going to go in the area between the Action Arena and Balloons, the area that was full of trees. I don't remember where the third was planned to go. Mr Galbraith did not give any details on what type of rides were to be installed, but did hint that the one to go next to the Action Arena was going to be a kids coaster or a flume ride. About a year after that, after LWL had closed it was revealed that the Dodgems was going to be moved to Gold Rush, next to Endeavour, I think where Taz was, possibly the other side. This was to be done to make way for a new animal exhibit, either lion or tiger cubs. As we all know they did get lion cubs but they didn't go where it was planned. It was going to be a permanent exhibit. "The Bus is now leaving for Liebig Bore, Northern Territory"
  14. Geese where? They can be vicious buggers you know. Cotties, I don't think anyone here spends 24 hours a day on the computer and you only need to take a split second to press the shift key or the full stop (period for some out there ) so take the time it's just common courtesy. Just let me do one last thing and take a quote from here: "The Bus is now leaving for Cottawalla, NSW"
  15. Shifty, is it so hard to press the shift key while pressing another key at the same time? That’s how you get capitals at the beginning of sentences. You managed to do it for you name so you must have some idea how to do it. And another thing you don't have to press enter after every comma that you use, that is unless you are writing a poem. 'My Dad picks the fruit that goes to Cotta' "The Bus is now leaving for Tip Mountain, NSW"
  16. Last time I was at Magic Kingdom, which was about 5 years ago they still had the slides and they had a bungee jump from a cherry picker thingy and that was about it. I was there for a company Christmas party so it was free food so it was all good. "The Bus is now leaving for Black Magic Soak, Western Australia"
  17. From what I remember of the picture I saw it was like that with the wheels in from and behind the riders. If you look at the picture attached it might help you understand it a bit better. "The Bus is now leaving for Cape De La Sortie, Tasmania"
  18. Yeah Slick why? "The Bus is now leaving for Whynot, Queensland"
  19. Nah that's not it. The cars were on the track not suspended below it. Ok imagine a spinning wild mouse but with bigger cars. Now imagine that it doesn't spin. Now imagine the back half of the car slides out as it goes around corners. Got it now? Can you see it in your mind? "The Bus is now leaving for Pebble Mouse Creek, Western Australia"
  20. Have a look at the Mondial website and their version of the ride. It has a large square platform the lowers as the ride starts and rises when the ride stops. Have a look at the video on the site and you will see what I mean. I haven't seen any video of an Intamin one so I’m not sure how the platform works, but what I can see from the picture on the website it looks like the whole platform drops down too. "The Bus is now leaving for Yeo Yeo Platform, NSW"
  21. Unfortunately I don't read French so I can't understand that website. But from what I can see from the pictures it’s not the thing I'm talking about. If you look at my really bad drawing it may help. But what actually happens is the back end of the car steps out like a V8 Supercar in the wet, the actual wheel part stays on the track but the body moves. Also from what I remember it only happened on corners. "The Bus is now leaving for Backender Buttress, NSW"
  22. I recently saw an article in an industry magazine about a 'sliding' coaster. Essentially the rear of each carriage, which held about 8 people from memory, swung out when it went around corners. I don't remember much about the article so I’m not sure who makes it or even if it is past concept phase as the picture was a drawing not a photo. Has anyone seen this design? "The Bus is now leaving for The Slides, Tasmania"
  23. By my count there are 42 slides on that spaghetti pile. Each pool has 6 slide exits and there are 7 pools. Yes Richard they probably are mostly the same slide, but damm that is impressive. "The Bus is now leaving for Count Bismark, Victoria"
  24. Atlantis has the best theming I have ever seen. Their slide "Leap of Faith" looks brilliant, it's a free fall slide where you go through a clear acrylic tube that is in a shark tank. Have a look here. There are not a lot of photos that show the true extent of the theming so if anyone has any more please tell us. Another water park that blew me out of the water is Rokko Island in Japan. Have a look at this photo to see what I mean and again if anyone has more pictures or links tell us please. "The Bus is now leaving for Atlantis Bay, Western Australia"
  25. Did you read mikrowave's post? "The Bus is now leaving for Gary Davidson BMX Track, Victoria"
