What's Dreamworld doing to the old Log Ride?
T-bone replied to Suhan's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I'd imagine the drop will just be getting a straight replacement, not a steeper drop or anything like that. Not sure, I don't recall any discussion about a complete replacement of the main drop, however I do recall seeing the first hill and subsequent drop replaced the same year that The Claw was installed (which was what, 2004?). -
Well I am for once actually relieved that the new photo opportunity at Movie World is a Western themed opportunity. Internet Cafe though, what the hell? I am surprised that who ever came up with that idea was able to justify it's cost since the popularity of internet connected smart phones which almost everyone seems to have these days.

There's a Pirate photo opportunity at the Western Area of Movie World? Did I read that correctly? Theme Clash anyone?

This is what pisses me off about the whole situation though, it wasn't all that long ago that Bermuda Triangle was the best ride in Australia, from Story, Design, consistency and Theming the ride was almost perfect and certainly a Disney Quality ride, until of course some smart arse fucked around with it and ruined the best ride in Australia. There's no excuse for it being in such a poor state, Wild West Falls is a different story, it was ruined by the fire up there, and as a recourse there may have been some sort of conditions or higher premium price for the Insurance of said attraction, hence the removal of the effects simply because it wasn't worth the extra costs (in their eyes anyway). But no, there is NO excuse for Bermuda Triangle being in the current state that it is in, and whoever thinks it's ok for it to be in the state that it currently is in needs to get their head checked.

Theme Park Review's Trips Announcements!
T-bone replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I am pretty certain it's Merimbula's Magic Mountain - http://www.magicmountain.net.au/ and not the old Gold Coast Magic Mountain which has been gone for yonkee's years now. -
MW Attraction maintenance 2010
T-bone replied to JD_bunnies_supporter's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I know this thread isn't a Sea World Thread, but since these parks are under the same banner, and it's on topic I thought I would mention it. Does anyone else find strange that on Sea World's Maintenance page, not only will Jet Rescue be closed for almost 2 months, but Corkscrew has made a return (see I told you it was back) and will be closed for a period of 1st - 21st of March. So does this mean Sea Viper will be still open for this period? For future reference (incase they decide to fix it) I have attached a screenshot of the page. Edit: Looks as though someone beat me to the punch. -
Yeah Gazza, I have noticed that, you'd think they would want to plaster Sea Viper everywhere to Brainwash everyone. Looks like someone's listening at Village Roadshow though, the information on the maintenance pages have been removed.

Yes and no, check it out for yourself - http://seaworld.myfun.com.au/Attractions/A...Maintenance.htm

For those of you who are interested, it's now practically confirmed that the Tower of Terror will become iRIDE 2.0 (well ok, not exactly, hey laugh a little will you). Dreamworld have been so kind to post what appears to be the entire year's maintenance schedule for their rides on their website. I have pulled the following from it. It is also worth noting that Dreamworld are currently doing better than the Movie World and Sea World in terms of their Annual Maintenance pages, which currently have reasonably out of date information on their pages, unless Movie World is getting in early, and the Corkscrew is coming back to be refurbished into an Exciting New Attraction!

You can't honestly tell me that the ride wasn't in an inoperable state, it sat there after Jet Rescue construction started and wasn't touched (to my belief) between then and now. If the main loco was dead and couldn't be bought back to life at all, and the 2 other loco's were also in an inoperable state, unable to be bought back to life, it wouldn't have been that hard or expensive to replace the old loco with a new one if it came to that. So in my opinion, yes the segways are replacing the train, we have lost one attraction for an upcharge, it doesn't matter if the train has been silent since Jet Rescues construction, just because it sat there for a while doing nothing, doesn't mean squat. The Segways might not be the exact reason for the closure of the train, but if what is being said above is true, then the trains buriel will be caused by the segways, with no chance of a return, losing another attraction for an upcharge. Another example would be if Dreamworld replaced Eureka with say upcharge Robocoasters, they would still be taking away an attraction and putting in an upcharge, leaving guests more short changed than if they had built a new non upcharge attraction in it's place, or simply have returned it to it's former glory. On the waterpark, even if I didn't originally comment on it doesn't mean squat. I don't care if resort guests can still go in for free, not everyone wants to stay in an overpriced motel room. So what about those average Joe guests who visit the park, still paying the same price (if not more) than when the waterpark was included, then being told they have to pay extra to go on the slides.? The reason I mentioned WhiteWater World is because we are talking about taking things away that were once included, but now cost extra, since Blue Lagoon was closed due to WhiteWater World, however the upgrade from BL to WWW was substantial, a new, bigger park with new attractions, so it is in a slightly different category to the Sea World Waterpark, but still it is really in the same category, and in my opinion considered an upcharge or an upsell with the $10 upgrade.
-
Yes Alex, but I can't think of any upcharge at Dreamworld that hasn't directly caused the closure of an Attraction, or meant that something that was once free now costs extra, with the exception of WhiteWater World, which is a fair upgrade in it's own right. The Coin Ops are a given at Any park, Wonderland had them, Dreamworld's had them for Yonks, as do many of the parks overseas, they are a given. With the Segways, wouldn't they just need to remove the track from the Corkscrew Roundhouse (despite it not being round) to the station since most of the railroad track from the tunnel to there has an adjoining road with it?
-
And people complain about Dreamworld and their current up-charge attractions, What the hell Sea World? Remove a classic and original, reduce your ride count yet again, to put in another up charge. Whilst it is a cool up charge, I am not happy about this one, not happy at all.

I can't recall exactly If the pouches had a cover/ velcro lid on them, but I am reasonably sure they did. I feel much safer having my wallet and phone in those pouches than in my pocket, and nothing fell out, so there you go. There is of course the chance that something could fall out, but that's an associated risk.

They have greeters at most of the queue entry's at Disney, with the exception of the smaller rides, but yeah they really don't care, it's really a non issue. However if you try walking up the queue with a studio camera, they may ask some questions, but no, nothing like what we have here where they almost go as far as patting down the guests as they enter the queue. But with Disneyland at least, rides such as Star Tours, Space Mountain, and California Screamin' have storage pouches in front of every seat to put things like sunglasses, wallets, cell phones etc, which you know had me surprised, I would have thought that a company like Disney would be wanting to squeeze every last penny out of their guests.
-
You shouldn't have any problems. I saw many people setup their handheld camera's for POV's of Screamin, Space Mountain and many other extreme rides, all in front of Cast Members, whereas many other parks we went to in the USA were very strict on this rule, much like our parks.
-
Disneyland CA also don't care about on ride imagery, the only time where I saw the cast members intervene was for people taking flash photographs on the dark rides.

Don't get me wrong here, but Brand Association isn't all that bad, as long as the attraction that it's associated with is half decent. Just imagine if the Motocoaster was not only faster, but had the capacity for better operations, and of course a better layout, would anyone care if Mick Doohan was associated with it? I certainly wouldn't. AVPX is also a pretty solid attraction. It does have a real "cheap and nasty" feel about it though, but overall it ain't too bad. Whilst I don't agree with the MTV brand overall, the show doesn't seem half bad, and it seems as though it is a decent attempt, not a half arsed attempt.

They only showed Sea Viper and Jet Rescue. Jet Rescue looked somewhat interesting (for someone who hasn't ridden it), but Sea Viper looked mediocre. On the vision they recorded, it appeared that there was quite a bit of head banging, Fifi and Simon commented on how it roughed you up the wrong way (or something along those lines), and Fifi also said that it's advisable not to wear Earings on that ride. Stationwise, I know we are all wanting to know what they have done with it. It appears as though the inside walls have been given a new coat of paint, a dark grey (not sure though if it has been recently painted this colour, or if it was given that colour when the track was repainted), there is some orange also present (same orange as the track colour).

For me, it's quite obvious to those who know me that I absolutely adore Disney, and my love for their music is no exception. I do have a rather large collection of Disneyland music (from the 50th "Musical History of Disneyland" collection. Love it. However a notable mention has to go out to X2's and Terminator Salvation's soundtrack at Six Flags Magic Mountain. They aren't as classic as the Disney stuff, but damn they are very good.

http://www.mtv.com.au/dreamworld The TVC is very good, not sure who is responsible for it, but I personally quite like it, very creative.

First to call Aquatrax?

It can't be any worse than Hollywood Stunt Driver can it? Well atleast they are starting to use the ampitheatre again on a large scale basis, something that hasn't happened in a while, and hopefully it will soak up some of those summer crowds. If it doesnt, can't blame them for trying.

Dreamworld close to Coomera deal
T-bone replied to New display name's topic in Theme Park Discussion
A nice big bonus for the execs? Some new upcharge attractions? (because the investments pay off twice!) how about some trinkets for the shareholders? Lots of trinkets! As much as I love the park, and it is getting better, you've got to question their actions over the past 4 years. -
Well I don't know about anyone else, but I spend more time on the iPhone than my mac. When posting something on a non iPhone optimized site, and that something is of a great length, it's hard to fully review the post before you submit it, due to the fact that there isn't any scrollbars on the posting box. I do know what you are talking about though, I too have seen an influx of "oops, it was the iPhones fault".
-
Sorry, should have said Esky. The iPhone's auto correct stuff is pretty good, except when it finds words that don't really exist in the US such as Esky, which it then changes it to something completely random. Mind you, the letters for Esky and Walt on the keyboard are pretty much next to each other, so I can see why it thought I meant Walt.
