I don't agree with you here sure tailspin gives you a quick buck where something like the TOT gives you sustained return and a quick buck. I have never had any of my mates say to me lets go to Dreamworld to ride the Tailspin again. Rides like the Rapids are the the type of rides that keep people coming back. I ride the Rapids as a kid and would shut my eyes in the dark sections. I rode the Rapids as a teenager and would do teenage things on it like splash each other and now I now ride the Rapids with my kids and it brings joy to me still. Yes when I go to DW I try the new rides but I always have to ride my favourites. Where DW has not added any rides to my favourites list MW has. If that makes any sense. Lol god I'm going to bed.

Don't know how you can say it failed when it did the job it was intended to do. If the system failed then there would be a splat on the ground below. Parts break all the time and that's why there is always a back up system in critical areas. I Say that makes me feel better about riding it knowning if the first lock does not work then the second one will do the job.

Dreamworld went into recievership once. The reason it went into recievership had nothing to do with new installations. The person who put DW into recievership could not pay the interest on the loan that he took out to buy DW. From my memory which could be a bit loose on the amount but he purchased DW close to 150 million dollars. He only put in 10 million of his own money so he had a loan for around 140. There was an investigation after he went belly up as to why anyone would loan him that much. I believe around that time interest rates where at 18%.

What's wrong with DW spending 20 + Million ride. DW needs to spend 20 + Million on a ride. This is what pisses me off about DW. All previous owners would spend money to get these rides here. How much would Thunderbolt coast to build today? I would say the Thunderbolt would be a 20 + Million ride if you built today. How can MW who have shareholders just like DW build Superman but DW can’t spend more than 10 million on a ride? Why could Dreamworld afford 16 Million 17 years ago for TOT but can’t find 20 Million today? Ardent Leisure do not care about its customers at all it’s 100% about the shareholder and making money. I know businesses are here to make money but how can SW spend 20 Million while still making money?

Yes I do agree it fits in nicely from the outside but that’s where it stops for me. Inside it might as well be in a shed. It has 1 themed bit “Watch out she’s going to blow” but the rest of the internal ride was in the dark. Hey Richard what do you remember about the people that lived in the Gold Rush Country when it first opened? -

When DW sold the land to Westfield the parcel of land was given new lot number. Council linked it too Dreamworld lot instead of the new lot number. I'm hoping after they finish the testing this ride they find it not worth it and pull the thing down and replace it with something else. I know a lot of people who never rode it are excited about it getting reopened but it was never a great ride. -

You need to use your imagination sometimes when you’re looking this stuff up. It depends at the time what the junior at council decides what to put it under and it also depends what was written on the application. An example would be sometime looking up Dreamworld you would search Dreamworld but at other times it is under Ardent Leisure. It all just comes down what is written as the applicant on the form or what the office Junior puts it under. "MOVIEWORLD OR MOVIE WORLD" In saying all that whoever DW use for the building approvals seem to take a long time to get that information to council for them to load onto pd online. You can see under Ardent Leisure it is showing that the fit out to the big brother house was not shown as approved to after big brother had finished filming. And finally a lot if things are filed into the wrong area. If you pull up Ardent Leisure again you will see an operation works order which has nothing to do with DW but is for the new Coomera Town Centre next door. The best way to look this stuff up is by the real property description. For MW it would be RPD: LOT 6 SP118653. DW goes over a few lots so you need to look each one up. Richard is right we will just have to wait and see what is going to happen and if you are going to use the pd online system then you are likely to miss the opening. -

Can you stop saying DA because it's a BA not a DA. Every ride you are talking about is shown here. GL approval was a BA. -

It would never be a DA approval. It would be a BA approval. Yes the BA approval gets done privately but once it has been signed off it is sent to council to be archived. -

Djrappa if you are talking about replacing a section of track but not changing the layout then you would be correct but if if your talking about altering the track or mountain then a formal approval would be required. -

Richard that is the best detective work I have ever seen on this site. I totally agree on what you are thinking. Dreamworld purchase a second hand ride and for some major reason it had to be removed. A local company was engaged to replace it. This puts lots of thoughts in my head about how Dreamworld was operated when it first opened. I have always had the idea that if one of our parks built a ride to the scale of what we see overseas and charged us for it, I would be willing to pay a small price to ride. When Dreamworld first opened due to very few people travelling overseas. Dreamworld only had to compete with the local competition. Now that more people travel overseas we are wanting more. I have family that live in the USA so every two years I travel over for a visit. I do not visit any Australian parks in that year because I am saving my money for what I will see and do. My first coaster at Dreamworld was an upcharge and I paid for that. I would be happy to be charged if I knew that when it was paid off they would remove the charge. -

Sorry can't re-edit it. To clarify the tilt it was not like the whole thing went over it just felt like the cart had just lost contact with the rail on the inside. It gave a feeling of being on a knife edge. -

Yes Richard from what I remember (being around 10 or 11 at the time) it did tilt to make you feel like you are falling off the cliff and there was no safety harness to keep you in the cart. The seat inside was like the log ride and the person in front squished the person behind. Going to Dreamworld back in the day was a massive family event that we would save up for to go once a year “No cheap passes back in the days”. So between sometime in the first year of opening I think it was changed because I only remember riding it like this the first time I went to Dreamworld but I would like to know how long it lasted for. I also remember paying to ride the thunderbolt when it first opened. -

This is a pointless discussion because you can't show me that asbestos was ever used in the mountain? If dreamworld felt they needed to close it due to asbestos then what has changed since it has closed that now makes asbestos safe? Dreamworld have never released that information so where Did you get that information from? Around the same time of the mountain going up asbestos was being stopped. -

The photo you posted does not look like when it first opened. Have a look at the clip and you will see what the carts looked like and the track. Does anybody know how long it was opened for before the carts where changed? -

I think you need to do some more research about it. If you check out any government site about it you will see it talks also about deteriorating building products. With my work I have had seminars by qbcc about hazardous materials on the work site. Yes if you crush it or cut it it will spread. If it falls apart by itself the same thing would happen. -

I don't buy that it is riddled with asbestos. Avalanche mountain was removed with no problems. Not saying saying they where made from the same stuff. If it is full of asbestos then dreamworld would have sealed it in a way to stop it falling apart to protect its staff and guest. Your telling me it's full of asbestos that is falling apart and dreamworld are allowing staff to work under it. -

I agree with the person on the facebook page about it would be better to pull it down and replace it. It was a boring ride for me. 2 drops and a few small zig zags and that’s it over and out. -

Does anyone remember when it first opened it was 2 riders per cart. I thought I was thinking of something else until I found this old commercial today. I stand to be corrected but I also believe the track layout was different when it first opened. From my memory where you can see it falling apart was in fact a patch to cover a tunnel that was filled in when the track was changed. I would go to say when they changed the carts and layout I think by the photos shown they replaced the whole track. -

The mine ride did not close because it did not meet the current fire standards. If that was the case then they would have to close every building in Australia as the fire code changes every year. -
Jet Rescue Closed for scheduled maintenance from Mon 2nd Feb and will re-open Mon 16th Mar 2015. Does anyone else think this is a long maintenance period?
