  1. I must say I find flowers a touching sentiment, but overall a waste. I look at the situation we had after the Lindt cafe siege, where half of martin place was covered in them - even if you say each bouquet was $15 - that was THOUSANDS of dollars spent on something that is swept into the garbage in a week, and the only one benefiting from it really is the florists. Please don't misunderstand me - if you want to, or have placed flowers at Dreamworld, i'm not saying that you wasted your money, or that you shouldn't have done it. I myself would have done so if I were able to get down to the park. The community outpouring we have seen is something that has stood the families in good stead through these times. I know that those touched by this directly have seen both the physical tributes as well as the messages on line, and they appreciate them very much. If you want your message to last longer than a week before it makes it into the bin, please see the fundraiser thread. You can even write your thoughts and messages on the fundraiser page when you make a donation.
  2. Hi All, First of all - I have cleared this with @Richard and at this stage he has approved this to be posted. I didn't know the Dorsett family personally, but I am good friends with the Brookfield family, having known one of their sons for 16 years. Sandra Brookfield is a lifelong friend of Kim Dorsett. They went to school together. Luke and Katie grew up in Penrith - where the Brookfields (and I used to) live. I give this background as an assurance to everyone reading this that this isn't a publicity stunt. Nobody here is looking for exposure or kudos, and their intentions and thoughts are all about the care and support of the families involved. Funds are banked to a new trust account set up for the family and approved by Kim Dorsett. If you do not feel comfortable making a payment through the mycause site, and you would like to make a deposit directly into the trust account, please PM me for details. Whilst I acknowledge that ultimately Ardent Leisure will contribute towards financial matters for the family, these are things that take time, mainly for legal reasons. In the meantime the family have immediate matters to deal with, and that is what this fundraiser is about. If you wish to make a donation - the link is below. If you wish to leave a message of support to the Brookfields and the Dorsetts, I can assure you that everything in this thread will be passed onto the family. If you disagree with this cause - don't comment, and just scroll on by. https://www.mycause.com.au/page/140360/dreamworld-australia-tragedy-memorial-fund
  3. The problem there is that there is a fall risk to the front of the train. Where there is a risk of fall from height they need travel restraint or fall arrest, or a railing. I have seen it done with single op operation as described above.
  4. Two ways to look at everything - i'm thinking of people who have come to the coast for a limited time, bought tickets to dreamworld, and now can't use them. Whilst i'm sure they'd get a refund from Dreamworld if they went through the right channels, it doesn't help then if they can't afford to buy VRTP as well whilst waiting for their refund. VRTP would benefit from in park spending, but since they are granting free admission they'd also be taking a theoretical hit too. Yes, its just as likely they'd get roasted for 'cashing in' as it is praised for 'saving family holidays' so yes, probably better to do nothing... but its just a shame.
  5. It would be a capital marketing idea for VRTP to accept dreamworld tickets for admission to VRTP parks whilst they are closed.
  6. I share your confidence Slick, but in terms of them 'focusing on load' - there should be an operator, at the panel, watching the surveillance monitors. Wonderland had a camera on the conveyor... so if this applies to Dreamworld - then we're talking less than 5 seconds from 'start to tip' to total shutdown.
  7. GCB just posted that the earlier reports that the partner who tried to save his family was robbed of his wallet etc during the incident were false. http://www.goldcoastbulletin.com.au/news/two-girls-are-without-their-mother-after-tragic-accident-at-dreamworld-kills-four-sends-two-to-hospital/news-story/4b1253a0155f20872ccfb0dbf8335d16
  8. I literally just posted the same thing in the Big September thread.
  9. That's precisely what I was describing yesterday @JaggedJanine thanks for posting the pictures so it is much clearer to everybody. (i wonder where they got their info from?)
  10. Why incorporate something into the design, when as the manufacturer you design the ride to run on two person operation?
  11. i'm of the same opinion skeet, but i am mindful of the fact that: senior management probably dont access the cctv footage on a regular basis, and may require a junior manager who utilises it on a regular basis to access the system on their behalf in order to assist police with their enquiries WWW Worker has been on the boards for some time, and given what we know lately about the park appearing to 'absorb' WWW as part of DW, its always possible that 'WWW Worker' is a manager who crosses the boundary - perhaps even moving over the DW in the off peak its also possible the name is no longer accurate for the reasons mentioned above.
  12. Yeah, and where were they before somebody died. The park is required by law to have health and safety representatives (HSRs). If a HSR identifies a safety concern they issue a breach notice. if the park fails to rectify it they are empowered by law to issue a PIN (provisional improvement notice) which gives the park 7 days to rectify the issue or shut it down. If they still fail to do either of those things, the HSR can call in a WH&S inspector which can close down the site indefinitely. In my opinion - 'palmed off' translates to 'gave us an answer that was satisfactory under law but that we weren't happy with'.
  13. As @Harold mentioned above - there is a reason that water rides, rapids and log flumes do not have a harness that cannot be undone by the rider easily. The seats lean backwards, so it would take an incredible force to throw you out under normal conditions, but if the raft was to tip, you want to be able to get out as quickly as possible. The velcro is the most suitable option in this situation. And in this incident, had the riders been secured with a harness, those on the bottom of the raft would have had no chance of escape, and would have been pinned underwater.
  14. I daresay the police and the park will make applications to have the CCTV suppressed on the grounds it is too graphic. It will be eyes only for those that need to see it. I'll be very surprised if the CCTV is ever 'officially' released, and if someone leaks it - god help them for the fury that the park will rain down.
  15. The thing about health and safety is that every workplace has elected representatives to fill the position of 'Health and Safety Representative" (HSR). If there were known safety issues identified by an HSR, and the park did not act to address them to the satisfaction of the HSR, the HSR is empowered by legislation to invoke a PIN, or Provisional Improvement Notice. If a PIN is issued, the park would have been given only 8 days (or other reasonable timeframe) to rectify the issue before the HSR could call in WH&S inspectors, who in turn could shut down the park until the breach was rectified... No way there were safety issues identified that were legitimate cause for concern that long ago. Don't worry @razza1987 - that ridiculous troll was trying to drag them into the discussion, and said some very unpleasant things about them. It was several pages ago, and whilst I realise he has already been banned, I felt that a rebuttal was needed. Don't let it distract you from the rest of the topic.
  16. To Clarify - my friend has now told me he was wrong about the ages of K (32) and L (35). He hadn't seen them in 5 years as they had moved inter"state" and his guesstimate was wrong.
  17. I'd say my source, knowing the people, is pretty reliable, whereas in the heat of an emergency, emergency services workers need to estimate. I know nothing else about their age except what my friend told me, but they could be 28-29ish, which is reasonably easy to confuse with 'about 32' for an unconscious patient without a person nearby who knows them that can tell them. Potentially their ID is on the bottom of the holding lake. Whether or not their age is correct, LK will be revealed eventually. depends on how you class 'safety incident' - the buzzsaw restraint system could be classed as one. The tiger attacks could be others.
  18. they also released a whole swath of SNES, NES, Sega Master System, Sega MegaDrive, Gamecube, and a whole raft of others.
  19. You're right @Levithian, there are guide rails immediately after the conveyor. This is hard to explain without a whiteboard, but even if it cannot get pulled under the conveyor, the process I described is still possible.
  20. Probably for the same reason Wonderland stopped the turntable system - slow loaders were causing issues and there were near-misses for people rushing to catch a departing tube. I'm pretty sure Bermuda did the same thing in it's later years - or at least had a brake point before final dispatch.
