  1. I thought the whole purpose of them moving to diesel was so any old ride operator could drive it, thereby eliminating the need to pay a very expensive qualified engineer...?
  2. Regardless of what travels around the country - the ride is still a much needed filler for this park. Filler attractions are by definition - to fill space. they don't all have to be unique one of a kind thrill rides... Seriously guys? We're going to bitch about them not putting in a family attraction when literally the last thing they did in every park was a junior attraction??? Movie World installed Junior Driving School Sea World rebuilt Nickelodeon Land and installed several new rides Wet N Wild installed WnW Jr. We can't expect them to do multiple attractions in the same year. The CapEx budget just doesn't stretch that far. Just goes to show (as we've said here before) it doesn't matter what the parks do - people are always going to find reasons to complain. Do you even read the thread before commenting?
  3. I've seen street vendors selling new cameras if you want them to take photos of the park... they normally come topped with butter, bacon and cheese.
  4. I'm curious though - It sounds like they got the baldwin moving very quickly. I wouldn't have thought they'd need a steam driver on a day they hadn't planned to operate it... how did they get it in service so fast?
  5. Its a cub kindy. the cubs aren't going to stay cubs forever. of course it's temporary.
  6. One hopes that, with the establishment of a super-villain area, and the existence of a super-villain ride (Arkham) already, that they will eventually link the two areas together with a path, precinct or attraction that stretches from showstage, behind scooby to the Arkham courtyard. The 2017 coaster could potentially do just that... I am glad to see MW investing in what sounds like a good quality flat ride - it's what they've been sorely needing for a while now. I'm mildly disappointed that they've again gone with something DC, and make a quick mental note of how stuffed they're going to be if they ever lose the DC license. I'll reserve judgment of the ride and the theme until such time as I see it actually on site, and see how good the ride is, how well the theme is integrated, and whether the popularity of the character in the upcoming film justifies the theme of an entire ride. these characters are all in movies, or will be soon. What's your point?
  7. ^probably more comfortable too - theres more leg room in a shopping trolley.
  8. I agree with T-bone. Sure - glass lets you get closer, but it's not quite the same.
  9. Jeffrey - there are many people on these boards who like, and want the parks to build new dark rides. Simple fact of the matter (which is getting like a broken record to explain) is that: to do it right, the parks need a pretty decent budget for the most part - the general public want a coaster. nobody rushes to the park to see the new aboriginal exhibit, or the new tiger exhibit, or penguins, or the latest spin and spew. For the cost of a good dark ride, the park could install an awesome coaster - and the coaster would generate far more revenue and attendance for them. I'd love to see them build a good dark ride, but they would need to throw a heap of money at it to make it work properly, and then they'd need to KEEP throwing money at it to keep it in perfect condition so that it doesn't go the way of Bermuda and LTRR. I'm a realist - and for our parks to keep people interested, they need big blockbusters you can see from the highway. Not a tin shed. Since Bermuda closed in 2010, we've seen liftoff on the VIP passes, and VRTP has essentially given away the gate. I'd suggest attendance is up, at least slightly, since 2010 simply based on affordability of the entrance ticket.
  10. I'm not making a big deal out of what they've done. I made an observation. The rest of this particular discussion has been revolving around you saying nobody cares, which - firstly - was your own opinion - and then secondly was based on some... gosh i don't know - telepathic survey you conducted whilst in the park? MOST members of the general public who dine at a restaurant who receive bad food or bad service don't stand up in the middle of the restaurant and shout it to everyone else in the restaurant, nor do they go out of their way to find the manager's office to lodge a formal complaint. Most people who have a poor experience simply do not go back. It doesn't mean they don't care. In service industries, word of mouth is huge. This quote relates to sales and customer service, but being in the entertainment and tourism industry, it can broadly be applied to a theme park experience also: I appreciate that you think my view stupid. You are entitled to have your opinion, I just don't agree with it, based on my own experience. I spent many years working in and training people in customer service, both in and outside of theme parks. Just because you don't see the general public complaining about such things, doesn't mean that they don't notice it, and doesn't mean that it doesn't negatively impact on their experience, and doesn't mean that this doesn't then influence what they have to say about the exhibit to others. We talk about it here because it's what we do here - we talk about the parks. Chances are if you somehow engaged most of the general public visiting that exhibit in this discussion, they'd agree with me that it would have been nicer if the park had invested in something nicer looking, and more suited to the exhibit. More often than not, we do pick on the small details... but it is the small details that matter. Disney is as successful as they are because of their attention to detail, and you have only to look at the positive response that Adventure World is getting, both on these boards AND on social media after fixing up the little things to see that it isn't hard to achieve that without a Disney budget. Dreamworld have been doing a lot of late to make their park look fantastic. After all that effort, for them to trot out something that looks like they found it at the local dump shows they dropped the ball. The park should have a couple of these things, done up in generic dreamworld livery on PVC that they can throw up wherever and whenever they need to, instead of torn, faded generic off-the-shelf nylon that looks like shit.
  11. *Claims he dines on "gourmet food" by getting create your taste at his local McDonalds... Considers a venue where they supply you a product on a tab basis and expect you to pay at the end to be bordering on illegal. #FastFoodIsNotTableService
  12. Well, the park has done a such a bang up job of convincing everyone that nothing needs to be themed, so... oh wait - Dreamworld just spent a fortune re-theming a rollercoaster! Perhaps theming DOES matter. But of course - your 10 minutes spent at the tiger nursery is sufficient research for you to conclude that "no one else cares" Did you conduct a survey? Did you ask anyone their opinion? If I were there, I wouldn't walk up to a total stranger and tell him what I thought of the marquees, but i'd be inwardly annoyed at the lack of attention to detail. Further - whilst I'd normally get home, tell family and friends about the awesome new exhibit I just saw at <park> i probably wouldn't do so, or I would tell them about the tigers, but explain how disappointing I found the exhibit itself. It's funny though - a while back, VRTP was building this new coaster - called Storm. And while they were doing it, they were also realigning the flume channel for Vikings. And they had this horrible temporary fencing which looked like shit. Many members of this forum were bitching about it on these boards. Now - call it a coincidence, but shortly after that discussion, VRTP outfitted the temporary fencing with this green grass banner, which they now use everywhere. In an emergency, packed attendance day, where capacity is reached and people are suffering in the heat, I have no issue with a park trotting out any and all measures to increase guest comfort... but when some ragtag ramshackle shitbox of a quickshade is put up over a week in advance of the media day, and it's still there with guests visiting, thats pathetic - You claim that no one else cares about the marquees, I claim that this just shows the park doesn't care... which, given their efforts in improving the overall park aesthetics, is really disappointing.
  13. I know it's a pain, but Tornado is really the only one where that bothers me.
  14. I know it's been a while since I saw the entrance building - but the blue colour scheme looks new... are they just repainting?
  15. looking at nearmap overheads, the chairs \ lounges thing doesn't appear to be too different at each park - although WnW has reduced it's lounge space a while back when they started building bars and upcharges on the astroturf. The thing about the two parks is that at WnW, there is plenty of space to spread out a blanket on the grass... so in the case of not enough lounges - there is still soft ground to lie down on - whereas WWW is mostly concrete, so if they're out of lounges - there isn't much you can do to find a comfy spot to lie down. I feel WnW is a better park - but you are correct - it falls down against WWW in two areas - Shade and location.
  16. Ahh the good old eagle hey? Every time i've been to OP, it's been closed. Considering the condor debuted in 1984 - i think we can think of something better.
  17. Why should they have to? Because they're a theme park. Not a fucking carnival. Why should they? Because they should have standards No one cares? I do. For the same reason we discussed weeds and long grass under the abyss. For the same reason we prefer steam trains over diesel tractors. for the same reason Push loses his load over non-rollercoaster attractions. They shouldn't do it because they HAVE to. They should do it because they care about the appearance of their park and the guest experience. They hosted lions from Canberra Zoo on a temporary basis whilst the zoo renovated their enclosure and they built the Lair. Faux rock theming and all sorts of little touches. They could have just rented a metal cage on a trailer from Stardust Circus... but they didn't. Honestly - it would be chump change for them to have custom vinyl printed quickshades with generic dreamworld promotional signage \ imagery on it, which they could use all over the park - school holiday meet and greets, really long queuelines on newly launched attractions... I mean this, even though it is plain, looks far better: But how much nicer would something like this be if they had the time?
  18. We've discussed this before. Lego will not come to VRTP as Merlin have their own interests, and they hold the themepark licenses.
