  1. Since we weren't going to be able to do everything we wanted to do in North America, or Japan - we snapped up some cheap HK flights so I can take my wife to HKDL for her first time - which will tide us over for our Disney fix until our next big trip comes along...
  2. Better than the previous 'water inflatable play area' they had.
  3. When the page is edited and maintained by people who are clearly part of this forum, it's not a stretch to think that the rumor would be added to the wiki.
  4. See... credit goes to the media outlet KTLA5 who published this story as "firefighters extinguish fire near Disneyland's iconic It's A Small World ride" If this were a gold coast rag.... "Massive blaze nearly kills thousands of children riding a 50 year old second hand attraction"
  5. Loving reading about all our parks from an outsiders viewpoint Noxegon - keep it up!
  6. Yep - Uluru report is enough to make me wanna go... someplace else.
  7. An upgrade to the redline car-shells to reflect the changes in manufacturer on the circuits - Erebus for example.
  8. At the risk of rekindling something - i take issue with this statement. Restraints of yesteryear tended to buckle you in tighter than a fighter pilot doing Mach1. They didn't need a 'secondary restraint' because the primary restraint was fail safe. The changes to restraints these days are a little less about 'more safety' and a little more about 'putting riders on the edge'. Its a reason why some very popular ride models the world over use lap-bar only restraints to put riders 'like they're going to fall out'. The nature of these systems requires additional 'backstops' because they are on the very edge. It's also why those same models, when deployed in Australia - tend to get an alternativ restraint system, or an added seatbelt buckled to the harness "just in case"
  9. ^But that's just it - your average car service is 10-15,000kms, but take a brand new car from a dealership - and you've got to take it back at 1500kms. When you do such major overhaul work to machinery - you don't go "as good as new - she can run twice as long without maintenance!"... you go "All these new, untested parts... better have a look at it after it's done a little work and make sure everything is tight!"
  10. ^No - I didn't record closures for either parks - only SBNO attractions. LTRR was part of a replacement program that stalled because of other priorities. Here we are now and there is another ride in it's place. If we're going to start comparing closures in the same time period, Angry Beaver needs a look in. I also left out the re-theme of AVPX, closure of the steam trains (let's face it - the replacement isn't a train - it might as well be a holden rodeo with different rims.) I took only the major stand outs from each park. Do you want to sit down and work through who opened what food outlet retail store too? I think the list i've got is fairly comprehensive. My only intention with that list was to make a point that on balance - each park is doing remarkably similar in terms of attractions - they've just shown it to be focused to different areas.
  11. Forum Moderator edits thread title! Members up in arms over heavy handed moderation. Site says "we're just being honest".
  12. "Man almost drowns on Thunder River Rapids Ride. Small piece of velcro saves his life. First at Five."
  13. The average park goer would though. They wouldn't consider unexpected maintenance to occur. "Why would the park close 3 rides at once" would be the only question they would ask, and for them it would ruin their day.
  14. What a shame they aren't the management of the past decade...
  15. Theme park dude - we'd really like a bit more information about you, or your sources. You're making pretty bold statements without any credibility.
  16. I totally agree with you - however I don't see Dreamworld doing anything close to the quality of dark ride that would please you. Their attempt would likely have you bemoaning their inability to carry a cohesive theme (something they've been very guilty of doing in the past). I would class JL as a major attraction. Sure a coaster it isn't - but it doesn't have to be a coaster to be a major attraction. For that matter - neither does JDS - That is a major attraction whether or not you think it is. You also left out Stunt Driver - in itself a major attraction - and i'm with those who commented already - Fright Nights, White Christmas and Carnivale absolutely count towards investment into the park on an ongoing basis. And I wouldn't say a re-theme of Dreamworks, an overhaul of Wipeout and a reversal of ToT would class as 'additions'. The only addition in all of that are Pandamonium (which you counted separately) and a small kiddie flat (dronkey). Everything else was just rethemed and recycled... as was Arkham. So let's do a recount: MW - 3 Major Attractions: GL, JL, JDS 1 Minor Attraction: Batwing 1 Major ongoing show: Stunt Driver 1 Major Refurbished Attraction: Arkham 2 Minor Refurbished Attraction: WWF, Scooby (Minor Refreshes to existing attractions don't really count though) 0 SBNO attractions 3 Seasonal out of hours themed events: FN, WC and Carnivale Total (green) count: 9 DW - 2 Major Attractions (if you can call them that): Buzzsaw, MDMC 3 Minor Attractions: Shockwave, Pandamonium, Tailspin 1 Minor ongoing show: Madagascar Live 2 Major Refurbished Attractions: TOTII and Wipeout 4 Minor Refurbished Attractions: Dreamworks area attractions (Minor Refreshes to existing attractions don't really count though) 3 SBNO Attractions (Skylink, Eureka, Sturt) 1 Seasonal out of hours unthemed event: Screamworld. Total (green) count: 9 SO really - the count is the same - but in the "Major" attraction category - MW is winning.
  17. If Eureka were to go, the footprint of the ride would make for a nice stationhouse for something that reaches more broadly around the goldrush area. An over-the-water coaster comes to mind. It would be a real loss to the area for Eureka to become anything other than a coaster though.
  18. This has been a bugbear of mine at MW for a long time.
  19. There is supposed to be audio on the lift hill - more of the Joker's taunts and laughter - it is very hit and miss.
  20. Agreed. It's not pessimistic - it's just being realistic. Speculating about what, and how much work is needed to bring it back to code is just enthusiasts talking 'shop'. Those saying things like 'nothing's concrete until we see concrete' are absolutely within their rights to make that statement *cough* wild *cough*. Pushbutton - you yourself seem overly pessimistic towards others on these boards. You're the first one to complain when everything isn't going fairybread and pink lemonade - regardless of whether it is directed at you or not. We'll just have to wait and see. Keep an eye out those who are in the park regularly. You may be the first to report a test run!
  21. Yeah depends on the wording. I'm inclined to say 19th will be closed, but if you really look at the wording it seems to imply it will reopen on the 19th. ie: Closed until the 19th - 17th-Closed, 18th-Closed, 19th-Open. Usually their maintenance pages normally say 'will be closed for maintenance from x to 'y' - in which case the ride would be closed on 'y'... it'd be nicer if they included "and we expect to reopen it on XX."
  22. Yep - similar to Giant Drop - the earth magnets are incredibly strong and don't require power for them to stop you...
  23. Looks a bit high to be a sprinkler, but it's a big area. You'd think the sprinkler would be in the middle of the patch instead of right on the edge of it. My thoughts were a camera tripod, sans camera. I frequently set up a tripod shot and then go hands on to take other shots leaving the tripod sitting there (but the likelihood of the photographer having access to that spot isn't high). Definitely not surveying equipment though... let the speculation continue!
  24. Jaeger's sources seem pretty confident, but if it isn't HSD3, i'm inclined to think it may just be a 'season launch' for Carnivale.
