  1. ^i'm going to take a half-assed stab and say they couldn't bring them into the arena, so they've lifted them over the facade from back of house, and thats why it's so high.
  2. Is Michael Croaker still calling the shots on shows? When he was running the shows at Wonderland, I found Action Man to be reasonably slick, and of course Millennium Spellbinding was for obvious reasons, but the rest of the shows in the park - Blinky, Goldrush, and even the street performances were a little corny, and lacklustre. I know he was involved in the development of the Fish Detectives show in Sea Lion Stadium, and that show is cringeworthy at best... but then he's obviously very involved with Fright Nights and White Christmas which come off with rave reviews... so i'm of two minds (and i'm sure someone more in the know could shed some better light on the subject.) Some parks the world over have shows that have run for decades. Fantasmic. Main Street Electrical Parade had such a following, fans protested so much the park brought it back. Waterworld is close to or more than 20 years old at this point, but they still installed it in Singapore when it opened a few years back. And obviously PASS is the closest thing we have to it here... We need that sort of quality - in EVERY show... Some of them have remained unchanged for years - even while AOS - notably the most expensive show to put on - has changed 3 times since it opened.
  3. That isn't three ramps, it's three PIECES of ONE RAMP. If you take a look at the FMX trailers, the launch ramp is a little wider than the motorcycle handlebars.... let's say about a metre wide... but the landing ramp needs to be much wider - because depending on what stunt they do, their bike may land further to the side of the centreline. When you look at the mobile FMX landing ramp (the truck) you'll see that when they pack it up to move, the outside 500mm (maybe even up to 1m) fold over on top of the rest of the truck body. You want to make your landing zone as big as possible to reduce the margin of error... plain and simple. Looking at the contour of the ramps in place, and the one they're lifting in, i'd say it's just the centre piece, and is being lifted onto the already in place frame. still fucking ugly though.
  4. I'm inclined to think the RFID band technology was not developed by Disney, but rather was sold TO them. If the company that developed this technology sold it to WnWS too, that'd be out of Disney's reach. Fastpass is the only thing I can see that potentially has an issue, but any 'jump the queue' system these days is colloquially referred to as a 'fastpass' system, so i'm not sure a legal case, in a different jurisdiction, in a country where Disney has no theme park foothold, i don't think would succeed.
  5. YUCK! That has totally ruined the awesome facades they had in that arena. I'm hoping they're going to theme the ramps from the front so they look like something else. These just look like the standard Showtime FMX ramps, without the vehicle trailers. I do hope they've got some storyline worked into this, and it isn't just an Ekka show with a camera crew.
  6. What i'm assuming was his last day as an employee (and presumably not coming back ever) why not have a little fun? You definitely pay the price for doing it by burning bridges, but it's not like anyone else is going to follow his lead - you can't get back of house on the wave pool, and the operator isn't going to let you board the tornado - so it's not like guests will 'monkey see, monkey do' Theme park cast members are normally people who work hard, and play harder. I remember numerous occasions where cast members got tossed into the lake at the end of their last day. Other things that were a little more against the rules shall go unmentioned. I don't condone it, and i don't suggest any member of the public attempt any of it ever... but after working in a place that is meant to be such a fun escape from everyday life, I won't begrudge an employee going out with a bang on their last day...
  7. Or alternatively remove it for several weeks and house it in another tank - the same way Canberra Zoo did with their big cats - which is what gave Dreamworld 'the lair'
  8. Thanks for thephotos. I went in a little over a week ago to get photos but the showtimes weren't as per the iPhone app, so i missed them. I did hear a lot of trailbike revving so they were obviously rehearsing (or playing) furiously.
  9. There are many recordings of the Irwins moving Crocs at Australia Zoo... I don't imagine it would be much different TBH. Tranquilising reptiles is extremely risky.
  10. The rescheduling to Australia day was shortlived - The first week of January, the uproar was so great, I think they nixed any idea of pushing ahead with it.
  11. If a place like Dubai - with it's oil money and extravagant constructions like Palm Island, 'the world' or the Burj Al Khalifa and Zero-taxation status (nobody there pays tax), can't afford 68 billion for a theme park - then I call bullshit on Fantasmagomicalifragilistic-x-pialidon'tthinkit'sgonnahappenland.
  12. Wrong again genius. While Disney has long been credited with inventing the theme park, it is common knowledge that Walt took inspiration from places such as Tivoli Gardens and even Knott's. Walt didn't coin the term, he simply made it well known... since it was the first park to have it's own TV show. Your original post states "we are about to built in australia" then talks about australia being the 'mothership site' as the largest and principle world headquarters (it's Principal by the way). You also go on to name which areas of australia you are looking at. You didn't put this forward as one option - it was THE option - you were ABOUT TO BUILD IN AUSTRALIA.... and now you're suggesting it won't be if it isn't supported.... not a very subtle mind-game - pretend to take your proposal away to make everyone beg you to stay? I call bullshit - as has been said - you need information publicly available for potential investors to sign up. All this talk of confidentiality and non disclosure is bullshit. You keep likening yourself to Disney - well when Disney built Disneyland in 1955 - he ran a television show THREE YEARS before the park opened, and continued it well after - he wasn't hiding anything - he'd proudly show every concept and construction as it happened... Does everyone remember the wack-job who wanted to built 'Habitat Waterford' in a lagoon in Sea World? I think we found his brother. I wasn't able to view your 'fantasmagomical video' yesterday behind my office firewall so after today viewing it let me tell you what I think - All these investors, backers, venture capitalists, lawyers and management people - and not one of them could hook you up with a recording studio and a professional voiceover artist to do the narration? Why is there a loud bang in the middle of your speech? Not enough money for a second take? For a guy who has $68 billion dollars behind him, you strike me as working out of your 3 bedroom home. At least the last guy who talked about rebuilding Wonderland had an ABN, and an ASIC registered company. That at least showed some money going into official sources to give the project legitimacy. What have you got? A CANCELLED sole trader ABN in the name of Christopher Daniels, trading as Elysian World http://abr.business.gov.au/SearchByAbn.aspx?abn=21164647890 If all of this wonderful technology is so secretive - then patent it. Then you can share the patents with potential investors because: patent registration implies the idea is both yours and unlike anything anyone has seen before it costs money to do - further legitimising you others will believe this is more than a bunch of crap. I'll hang my hat on the statement that this POS will never get off the ground in it's current form for 68 billion reasons... and if i'm wrong, i'll buy the first ticket. and fly every person who has so far commented on this thread to attend the VIP opening.
  13. ^ I agree flea. I don't think anyone can draw any conclusions about the financial viability of the park as a result of the downtime of a single ride. Viper is in a very unique position at the moment. It has been said that Management have committed to keeping Viper open regardless of the cost. That doesn't sound like they're in financial trouble to me - that sounds like a profitable park with an aging icon that they will do anything to keep alive. Besides - if Sea World were in financial hot water - so would the rest of the group - Movie World, Wet N Wild, Wet N Wild Sydney, (and other associated licensing agreements with Wet N Wild around the world) Outback Spectacular, Paradise Country etc etc etc...
  14. Start of sarcasm i've just about had enough of everyone's shit! End of sarcasm Ok - so we all know the new tags work. There are some members who will need this tag switched on for everything they post...
  15. Elysian means heaven or paradise. 1. http://www.fantasmicworld.com/FantasmicWorld/Get_Involved.html http://gogetfunding.com/project/fantasmicworld-theme-park-creates-job-opportunities 2. http://www.elysianworld.com/Elysian_World/Fantasmagomical_RIDES.html http://www.fantasmicworld.com/FantasmicWorld/Fantasmagomical_RIDES.html 3. Although I am loathe to quote wikipedia articles, it gives the basis for my argument: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fantasmic! Imagination was just a word - but Fantasmic was a made up word that could be 'trademarked' - and one that is recognised far and wide as being a disney production. Yes - a theme park versus a show IN a theme park are different, but I assure you - Disney are quite aggressive when it comes to protecting their brand, and as I already stated - whether they would win or not - litigation would be costly and prohibitive - Do you honestly think they won't go after a "multi $billion edutainment theme park" when they went after a small daycare centre in florida for putting their character likenesses on the walls??? I have made legitimate statements as to what I see as flaws in this proposal. The post talks about the park as if they're breaking ground 'this year' but the reality is it is a far cry from being more than a dream that would cost several billion dollars to build, and most likely will never get there. And if you want another reason - look at Disney - theres a reason why multi-billion dollar parks DON'T build in Australia. Why would you pick australia as your 'mother ship' ? Asia, continental USA or Europe - hell even the Middle East can support this type of Park.... Australia NEVER will. You will see a Disney park in this country before you see Elysium FantasmicWorld in it's current form.
  16. Wait - are you saying that it is an awesome useful feature? or were you being sarcastic? I know you used the tags, but it seems like you're being serious?
  17. Seems similar to EPCOT's original concept. Couple of points to clarify: Thread says multi-billion, and "are about to build" but your 'gogetfunding' page has so far received 2 donations totalling $111 from two people with a target of only $3.5 million. "100 major rides" "many never seen before" - in this community, that's unlikely. Someone has to build them - reputable manufacturers develop new products all the time, and sell them to many parks world wide. Educational - fail. This project is the brainchild of a professor in arts and science. Most successful theme parks have been borne out of companies focussed on tourism or entertainment - Like Disney, Universal, Paramount etc. the 'bio' of this professor states he was an 'imagineer' - but makes no mention of Disney 'Fantasmicworld' would probably get sued by the Walt Disney Co. for breach of trademark for the word 'Fantasmic' (whether they'd win wouldn't matter - they'd cripple the project through litigation for years) You don't list a location - you're asking for suggestions. You don't have any financial backing (well - $111 isn't exactly backing) I presume you have permission from Merlin Entertainment or the Lego corporation for your inclusion of the attraction 'project lego' in 'fantasmagomical land' ? It's a wonderful 'dream' but it doesn't appear to be very close to reality at this point. Oh - to answer your question - I think you should build it in Mt Isa.
  18. No you're not missing it - they haven't actually stated it. Someone asked the question on their facebook page but they haven't (as yet) responded. The Sydney CNY2014 festival runs from 24 Jan to 9 Feb. I'd suggest we'll see something similar for movie world - basically a week(ish) each side of C-New years day... so probably until this weekend.
  19. It would be easy to extend cyclone's track if a manufacturer were to produce new pieces designed for the purpose. If they were bringing pieces over from Viper to join onto Cyclone, it would be incredibly difficult. The transitions would be incredibly difficult, and probably not worth it - it's not like combining two K'nex sets. Moving along - dreamworld's new ride... they've acquired the lattice maze from Jamberoo and will construct it on the site of the Wipeout. Wipeout will be relocated behind the Model T Fords - which is why it's going down for so long - they need time to move it. The wave, water, and shark will not be moved with it.
  20. Never assume. Until they're drilling footings and we're getting hardware on site, nothing is ever concrete (pun intended)
  21. Wyncenuros' comments prompted me to go and have a look at what 'special offers' are available on the other side of the highway. We're all familiar with the VIP pass - currently $110. The Super Pass (at $99) has been around at least since 1994, and is 28 days unlimited entry to all three parks. The Discovery Passport is the next one in line at $149 - which is pretty much the VIP pass with member discounts, as well as being 12 months from purchase, rather than expiring at the end of june. But what blew me away is the Ultimate Theme Park Pass. I don't know how long this has been around but i think it's pretty new. In my opinion, this is 'disney-esque' in it's design - in the sense that the whole idea is to keep you on property as much as possible. Let's break it down: Adults are $179.99 Children are $99.99 Tiered pricing implies better value. Adults expect to pay less for a child than they do an adult. 21 days unlimited entry to MW, SW & WnW 3 weeks is about the right amount of time to spend on the gold coast - so being able to go at any time during your holiday makes your itinerary flexible. The 21 days unlimited entry also applies to Paradise Country. It's a bit corny for some, but for those that haven't been young kids etc - it's often forgotten in holiday planning, but it is a good solid (half day) attraction in it's own right. On top of that, you also get a single entry to Australian Outback Spectacular. Considering an adult ticket to AOS is $99.99, and child tickets are $69.99, with a meal that you'd easily pay at least half that for anywhere local on a good day, its great value (and it gives you a night off having to sort dinner out for everyone). I know this is the dreamworld topic, but the main view here has always been a comparison between their rivals - in my opinion this package just absolutely shits on dreamworld, and it puts what i think is a final nail in Dreamworld's coffin. How can they compare? Offer tickets to Skydeck? *yawn*... go bowling? *Yawn* You can visit a lookout observation deck and a bowling alley pretty well anywhere. Once again - this package (and i'm saying this for visitors and tourists, not locals) is incredibly amazing value, and also incredibly smart marketing on VRTP's behalf.
  22. But thats where most people fall down in their comparison... As a ticket buyer - most people these days are looking at the discounted annual passes such as the world pass, or the VIP pass. At $100 for a year (or thereabouts) it's one of the best value tickets anywhere in the country (especially when compared to day pricing). So what do you get for your $100? Dreamworld and White Water World - Dreamworld by all accounts is tired, left to rot, but still 'ok' with plenty of options for the kids. White Water World has some great technology slides (from 5 years ago) that WnW doesn't have (yet), but WnW is still 'biggest and best' and nobody can deny that. On the other hand: Movie World, Wet n Wild and Sea World. Although down by Main Beach, Sea World is the ignored piece of the pie in this equation. Effectively its the 'park you get for free'. We've all been comparing the two 'theme parks on the highway with adjoining waterpark' but the fact remains that Sea World as an add-on is a pretty solid 'bonus extra'. Three additional rollercoasters, a sensational childrens play area, battle boats, flume, high-ropes and jungle gym type attractions, as well as 4 additional shows, another parade, and a heap of animal encounters and exhibits. Back when Wet N Wild had their Dive'n'Movies, I'd start the day at Sea World, head to movie world at lunchtime, and then drop into WnW around 4 to catch the movie (or if it didn't interest me, ride some of the slides at night). As a standalone comparison - MW vs. DW, I can see why more of the family groups would take Dreamworld over Movie World, based on quantity of offering. But - as soon as you bring 'ticket buyer' or 'value for money' into it - its an entirely different ballgame, because you're comparing the contents of 3 diverse, varied, well set up parks with two that are tired, struggling, and just can't compete on the same level. Don't get me started on their upcharge attractions either...
