Scooby-Doo Spooky Coaster fire and lighting effects
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to Spotty's topic in Theme Park Discussion
^ @Sam Cash - well at least you got something right. Rather than attempt to use smoke and fog effects that don't trigger detection systems (because it's practically impossible), what you need to do where you have those effects in use is to use fire detection systems that do not work by detecting particulate. Being that these systems are far more expensive, they are only deployed where necessary. ***Disclaimer before anyone gets too upset - what I am about to say is merely my assumption, based on having at least a basic working knowledge of the industry that is easily a decade old, and therefore could be wrong. I have no sources within the park to confirm this (although i'm sure others will). It is my belief that Movie World don't use 'special foggers'. It is my belief that the disco room is outfitted with fire detection systems that are unaffected by smoke haze effects. Being that the system is quite pricey, it is also my belief that this system does not extend back into the ghost train load section of the building (being that they are really two different buildings), which also explains why on occasion when the effects are pumped up a little too high on a particularly busy day, that the repeated 'whoosh' of coaster cars moving from one room to the other do bring with them a little of the smoke particulate... where it then sets off the fire alarms in the other half of the building, and although well known, still requires a full process of shut down and evac to play it safe, which is why Scoob generally has at least one outage, generally in the mid-afternoon on busier days. (Reminder - this was totally my own view andor opinion based on nothing more than educated guesses, and could be completely wrong, but i'm pretty confident i'm in the ballpark). And any AV company working in a venue with sensor systems that are able to detect smoke would generally liaise with the building's chief warden and determine either whether the effects are not to be used, or otherwise whether the sensors in the particular area where the effect will be used should be isolated, and other safeguards put in place. I have seen this precise process used in a heritage listed building attached to the Westin in Sydney around 10 years ago, and it worked - although being heritage listed, they had several people who were not permitted to leave the room until the system was switched back on. -

Wait wait wait... back up - Ifrit - do you seriously and honestly believe that they would take the few hazers they have in the scooby disco room out, thereby ruining one of it's better effects, so that they can fog up the park for Hallowe'en? They won't be needing to do that for almost 4 weeks... why remove them now? The smoke produced in the scooby disco room is thin and hazy across the entire room the smoke produced outdoors (where it has to contend with wind) is thick, dense and is released often, and with a lot of noise The few inside Scooby wouldn't be sufficient (firstly as they're probably the wrong type), to smoke up the entire park... so why go to the effort of removing equipment in a permanent installation, when you're still going to need to hire in more of them anyway? I don't believe tech services would cannibalise effects on permanent attractions for a month long series of night events (unless it was a last-minute replacement to ensure the show went on for that night before fixing the issue properly the next day). -
$500 million China theme park in Australia, NSW

All parks have to start somewhere. You never know where it will go. God knows they've put a lot of money behind it... it might actually become something awesome as time goes on. -
Justice League 3D - a big flop?
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to westical's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I actually found the ad to be quite piss poor myself - all of the JL characters portrayed weren't even animated - they were a single image, with laser beams etc layered over the top. Even the ads for the plastic figurines give the characters more life. -
MW Mini Driving School - Officially Confirmed
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to Brad2912's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Yeah - considering movie world is doing such a great job of hyping the ride up in all forms of media, they shouldn't allow enthusiasts who are really pretty good ambassadors for the park to catch a few sneak preview shots. Now - i'm not saying let them reveal all the secrets ahead of the big announcement - but perhaps they could: announce it earlier make more effort in hiding things if they don't want people taking pictures We had shots months ago of the construction of main street, the backwall façade etc... and now that it's testing they're going to try and stop you? PATHETIC. If they wanted to keep it under wraps, then the giant hole in the wall should have been adequately blocked during the entire construction period. -
Whilst it's a great effect, i'll be really happy if they get rid of the guy with the chainsaw. It does a really great job terrifying people, but: you can hear it before you even enter the maze, so you're anticipating it the whole time the constant exhaust fumes, coupled with minimal ventilation (in order to keep the whole room smoky) means it's quite nauseating, even for a minute or two. (I pity the actors working that set for the much longer time they would spend there). I look forward to seeing what MW can do this year. The loss of Sudden Impact hasn't been bad - they got them started, but now they know what they're doing they can do stuff much cheaper, which means overall better mazes and better thrills. Whatever the mazes, I look forward to them. I don't particularly care what IP they use, i'm unfamiliar with most of them, and for me it's less about 'how true they are to the movie game book whatever, and more just about how well the area is themed, and how well the actors do their job. Whilst it's nice to have the IP for the backstory and the imagery - I think MW is capable with their in-house people to pull off something without it needing the IP licensing. I don't think many would miss it - so long as it gives the scares and the thrills that you go to this kind of event for. (Check out the random generic scare actors in the scare zones who get just as many screams as the mazes do)

Dreamworld shifts to Pepsi drinks
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to Jlindsell's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Can't quote for some reason... However the reason you pay extra to get water instead of softdrink with a meal deal is that postmix soft drinks cost far less than bottles. You wouldn't have to pay more if you asked for tap water (that's where your post mix comes from too), but you're asking for something bottled - theres a whole damn supply chain behind bringing you that PET bottle. The costs of supplying Co2 and Syrup are far lower per cup than a bottle of tap water shipped in from elsewhere. -

didn't we see the promotional shot of the kid in front of the arch a few months back? Surely that was either THE car, or a life-size replica of the actual car on the track? -
Do they still have adventure parc down there? that'd be a way to kill an afternoon!

I can say I haven't seen the shells in the LTRR building. Rappa says they were tossed... perhaps they were? (I know many who would have liked to have picked up at least the front car... -
Also - depending on which day you're arriving, sunshine coast southbound on the bruce can be extremely painful around holidays, long weekends, or really just any sunday.

Luna Park Sydney - the future with Wet'n'Wild
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to JulieLovis's topic in Theme Park Discussion
To be fair, this thread has been discussing LPS's future as a result of WnWS, so while not strictly 'on' topic, it's not that far off topic either. What WnWS does over the next few years may have an impact on LPS - especially if they rest on their laurels (which does not appear to be the case at present.) -
I believe some of the specials currently out there only work if you activate the pass before a certain date.

SFMM - Colossus to close August 16, 2014
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to Reanimated35's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Racing coasters work really well... when they're run as racing coasters. I certainly hope they maintain the operations to consistently run two trains. I'm impressed, and certainly a coaster of that size had to replace colossus purely based on footprint needed. I'm still disappointed they got rid of such a classic coaster to do this, but i'm excited to ride it. -
Justice League 3D - a big flop?
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to westical's topic in Theme Park Discussion
GGB - one question - you speak as if you haven't ridden it yet... is that right? Don't let the naysayers sway your opinion (although if you go on with that opinion you might be pleasantly surprised). I won't say it's an amazing ride, but it's been done very well in my opinion. It would be great if the game play was more connected, but I think if you took the guns away, and just had the animatronics beefed up a little to 'tell a story' (think Radiator Springs Racers) it'd still be a hit. I don't feel JL deserves all the manure it's receiving. -
You're lucky... 26 would kill you.

^As you seem to have seen it, wouldn't you already know if it were cooler?

only if you're using the simple functions.

I'd suggest a rubberised matting (the kind made out of old recycled car tyres) that they use underneath playgrounds would be good, but expensive.
