  1. Well they should just count each individual spot on a raft - so they can add 4 new attractions by purchasing a new cloverleaf...
  2. Safety wise - anyone with common sense can answer that... They're all perfectly safe, provided the right precautions are taken - I notice that usually WnWGC keeps people away from the back wall with a rope (mainly so they only need one lifeguard on each side), but with the right number of lifeguards, and an appropriate 'safety zone' from the back wall, I can't see that any particular type would be saferless safer than the other...
  3. A good analysis Gazza - You'd have to expect the park would have similar or greater capacity and ability than GC given the modern construction and planned design, rather than the evolution that the GC has had... I think the only variable there would be the length of the slides (shorter slide length or father speed) which could impact on that a little more. The claim isn't 42 'rides', it's "42 slides and attractions "... So looking at things that we've had in the GC park - this could include zipline and skycoaster type attractions, as well as things like the hi-striker game that had a short lived installation near bombora burgers. 15 Major attractions doesn't count individual slides within 'kiddie' areas either... It just depends on what they're counting - you can include shops, food outlets* and you're getting up there quite quickly... *note to dreamworld - for it to count, it should at least be open 4 out of 7 days...
  4. I've seen ads on TV, but they are all a joint ad for Fright Night and VIP pass. My guess is they're banking on repeat custom to a point where they don't have to advertise it. Surely there'd be enough VIP Gold out there (from the free upgrades) that with everyone getting a 'free entry' ticket, chances are they'd sell out all of the nights just on VIP tickets alone...
  5. I'm almost certain WnWGC uses the 'compressed air' method by use of large fans. Top of my head, I think WWW is as well. There are actually more than two 'methods' - including the two styles you refer to, as well as waves created using large paddles, as well as an 'accordion' type.
  6. Well - they are second hand rides, so it fits Dreamworld's MO. I'd love to see some of them come over here - i think some more of the USA independents would pick them up cheaper because they don't have to ship them overseas...
  7. Considering WnW's Calypso is pebble-creted (which also assists in covering up all the outletpumps etc, i think it's safe to say that what is visible on WnWS lazy river isn't the final product, and it's most likely going to be pebblecreted like the other... therefore the wallfloor material isn't really that important at this stage...
  8. Sounds like a classic Sony Cinescore soundtrack to me...
  9. We don't have the population, and therefore the budget to rival the US. Sure a park may be able to blow 3 years worth of CAPEX on a single, worthy attraction, which: [*]We'll all love, and rave about [*]the park will advertise the hell out of it, trumpeting the latest 'record breaker' [*]another international park will beat it in less than a year [*]The park will again be forgotten on the international stage. [*]the park that does it won't install anything else for 3-4 years while they recover and recoup the expenditure, leading us all to criticise the park for not building anything new. [*]The park attempts to scrape together what little cashflow it (or it's shareholders) are willing to part with just so that they can install something 'new' [*]the new attraction isn't anywhere near as 'wow' as the record breaker - people criticise, and want better rides. [*]the park is condemned to poor attendances, lack of cashflow, leading to poor upkeep and maintenance, and requiring the park to cut costs wherever possible. [*]the park is further criticised for failing to maintain standards, theming, keeping rides open for the full operating day, etc. [*]the park goes further downhill due to that criticism *Disclaimer - the parks mentioned in the above description have remained nameless to protect their identity and no similarity is intended to be drawn to any park - whether in coomera or not
  10. How so? It doesn't look anything like the dog-leg layout that is movie world... it's more of the wheel style layout seen in Universal Singapore. If you look at it, it's divisions closely match that of the Madagascar area, Faire Faire Away, Jurassic Park, EgyptThe Mummy etc. It even has the 'two lanes' leading back to main street - one close to the water which avoids 'sci-fi city', and one that goes through it and then dog-legs back... Come on - someone else tell me that they can see that too?
  11. Although I realise that the article refers to the project as a 'theme park' the above quote is a far better description - it is a family entertainment centre. Looking at the layouts shown, it looks like the layout was lifted directly from USS. They just broke ground, but i'm fairly certain it won't be quite the theme park we'd expect from that description....
  12. Honorable sentiments Mal, however - I must raise a few counter-points: Have the makers of this documentary publicly given approval for their intellectual property to be pirated on a torrent website? (And that being said - should we be condoning illegal behaviour on these forums) SeaWorld (Australia) have considered (and abandoned) the idea of having Orcas many times, however each time, the matter has been thoroughly reviewed and investigated, and they've decided not to proceed. Many of us feel this is the correct and proper decision for these beautiful animals. Both in the USA and in Australia, it is not illegal to keep these animals in captivity, subject to certain restrictions and regulations. If any park with the appropriate authority and permission brought the animals in, all the documentaries in the world couldn't stop them. The documentary filmmakers shot within Sea World in the USA with permission of the park, however the final result was not the product that the permission was granted for. SeaWorld were not given a proper opportunity for rebuttal within the film, from what i recall. We have discussed Blackfish previously, but do appreciate your contribution. Having just returned from a trip to the USA which included visiting Sea World San Diego, I don't think it is as easy as you say - just to 'ban them'. A very large economic effect would be felt in the region, and no doubt in Orlando also. I realise 'economy' may seem like a very poor excuse, but in reality this is 'only an animal'... and animals don't vote - people out of jobs do. A better option, if it had the support of those concerned, would be to place a moratorium on the captivity of Orcas. This would include the prevention of breeding (or somehow - invoking sterility) and allowing the captive population to reduce by natural attrition. Keiko proved that it is very difficult to return a captive animal to the wild after being held so long in a tank. But this process is a long one, as succession planning and forward thinking need to be brought in - and of course - if any park holds a pup not long been born - then it will take a long time for them all to disappear.
  13. Sorry to go off topic on the off-topic topic, but we need an option like facebook where you can view the edit history of a person's post. Both Gazza and RWC edited posts on the previous page between 9 and 10am today. it'd be interesting to know what transpired. RWC - I can't say there will be any consequences, considering our geographic separation, but i'm going to strongly suggest not starting on name calling. My statement regarding the production companies responsible was based on your statement regarding Marvel having to approach those production companies for rights. You argued that it wouldn't all be about superheroes, but would be a marvel comic park, and then spent several paragraphs explaining why you'd be using the movie franchises. Apart from the fact that we're discussing a Disney park, therefore taking this topic well off-topic as it is, you haven't even formulated a cohesive concept. Lastly, a park such as WBMW is a park based on 'movies', lending particular attachment to WB, VR, and their related indicia. Just like Universal is a park based on 'movies'. What both these major production studio companies have in common is a stable of wide-ranging diverse assets, from comedy, childrens and drama to horror, western and everything in between. A marvel park would focus on the superheroes, simply because few people could name anything else owned by Marvel that ISN'T super-hero related. It would be like installing 'Mr Toad's Wild Ride' into Movie World today. Few people know where the attraction comes from, and even fewer understand the backstory as to why. It remains where it is today because it is a staple attraction from a bygone era that stands for reminiscence... So please - tell us all of these different 'non super hero' licenses that Marvel could employ to theme such a park, and show us how relevant that would actually be. (and can an admin perhaps split this into a separate 'Marvel park for Australia (Brainstorming) thread?)
  14. I don't think you can use the term Singular when it comes to Movie World. Let's take a look at the fact that we have a DC area, a generic car-stunt show, a 4d animation based on Ice Age, WB Kids themed to WB cartoonery, Scooby and Wild West. It's hardly justifiable as a 'single' theme. They're all related to 'movies' in some way (hence why it is called Movie World) but that hardly is a single theme any more than all of the recent additions at dreamworld can be considered of a singular theme simply because they're all crap. Side note - it's 'of course' not 'of cause', and in the context used, the word is 'Whether' or not, not 'Weather' or not. Now - you start your proposal by saying it would be a Marvel comic park... then suggest involvement of the studios that own the film rights to some of the bigger franchises... then amend your proposal from 'comicbook park' to 'comicmovie park' before finally resigning yourself to the fact that it would be a movie park - as quoted below. So in elaborating on your 'really awesome idea' you have in fact just proven Gazza's point - that a movie park with several different areas is being criticised for focussing too much onto one single idea (DC Comics at Movie World) and you want to go ahead and build an ENTIRE PARK based on the same restrictive theme. This problem is further compounded by the fact that you see it as a good idea that Marvel build a park because they make some 'pretty big blockbusters'... but you've already acknowledged that THEY DON'T MAKE THEM - they are in fact made by other studios, so you are making your CORE THEME reliant on other parties who may withdraw their support, or refuse renewal of the license at any time - eg: Hanna Barbera at Wonderland Sydney and Nickelodeon at Dreamworld. You are then faced with a costly exercise to retheme the ride. It may be easy to retheme rides in more generic type parks (Wonderland, Dreamworld, SIx Flags) but when you're going to build to such a specific theme, you limit your options on what the replacement theme will be - which is why if you're going with such a specific theme, you need to own most (if not all) of the themes in your park - A la Universal Disney. FAIL. Also, if DC is the sibling (brother or sister) and WB is the parent... what is the price of fish in purple monkey dishwasher? Pretty sure you meant DC is the 'Child'
  15. As has been proven time and time again, you'd just be wasting your time and effort. You'd get a more energetic response if you took their annual report and used it as firelighters...
  16. And I bet you use $100 bills instead of toilet paper and are married to a Kardashian as well, right?
  17. You should know better Gazza... The 'Disney' answer to that question is... 'It depends on the 'land' you are in as to what colour, shape, and style the trash cans are...
  18. I remember the 'pitch black' maze that they ran through china town one year. it was reasonably well done, but I agree you have to be 'right there' when the scare actor jumped out. pretty sure they did use water pistols and other bits and pieces to try and scare - there were 'leg high' things that stuck out and you had to walk through, etc. strobes just to disorient further. I guess in those types of mazes its less about the 'scare' from the actor, and more the anticipation of when if something is going to jump out. Being pitch black - there was no ambient light at all - it was unnerving - you nearly gripped the person in front of you for grim death to make sure you didn't get separated in the melee... and i think that is the better scare than just having menacing looking guys wearing half-decent makeup leaning on a pole staring at you before running up and standing behind you..
  19. A while back, they used to allow people in costumes without restriction. They had a few problems (as stated above) where people were confused over who was staff and who was guest. It also caused issues when people were attempting to gain entry using passes containing photo ID, as heavy face makeup did not allow for good facial recognition. Simple (not elaborate) costumes, appropriate to a family environment (yes - children do attend these things) are generally allowable. Light face makeup (scars, a little blood here and there) is usually ok. Full-face-paint etc is unacceptable.
  20. I think it's much more suited to being in the park than outside of it... people would have to get a passout just to ride it?
  21. ok - so fast track is only for the mazes? what about the rides?
  22. Just to touch on the 'backup' theory again - Most historical railway societies have diesel locos as backups to their steamer fleet as backup and recovery vehicles in case of breakdown, to assist in bringing the train back to the station. This is very necessary - especially in cases where the passenger cars are far away from the station - such as is the case on the Zig Zag Railway. On the other hand - if the Dreamworld railway breaks down at any point - unless it is across the two points that are level crossings (one near main street and the other at the back end of AWE) then there isn't really a need to move the train in a hurry. It's a flat and level grade most of the way, and with vehicular access almost all the way around, they could just tow it back with a tow truck on hire by the hour. Hardly justification for an entire loco dedicated to the task. As for 'specially themed' days, i think you might be mistaken. I'm inclined to take T-bone's side of this argument. Knowing his affinity for trains, i'm pretty sure he would know better than most.
