  1. I've ridden this a few times since the refit, and come to the conclusion that it isn't the harness pushing down - what it is is the forces of the ride permitting you to slide forward just a little, to the point your legs become wedged between the seat and the harness. Unless your harness isn't locked in tight enough to begin with, it doesn't get tighter as the ride goes on, its just that you shift in your seat between start and finish.
  2. Liz.... trust me - you don't want to do that.... if you want to go Dreamworld, I can't stop you - but only get a 1 year pass.... as the uncle of an 8, 4 and 2 year old (who only go to theme parks with us), I promise you I know what i'm talking about... You will be disappointed, and they will very quickly tire of DW's offering. Dreamworld is ok to have in addition to VRTP, but not an alternative in all reality...
  3. No... Orphan Rocker was designed for thrill. it had nothing to do with scenery - and everything to do with running down a hill to the edge of a cliff making you fear falling over the edge. The unique 'rocking' train design was also developed to further emphasise the fear factor. RWC - Orphan has been the subject of many threads and many posts on this thread over the years. We've had the hammond's on here talking directly to us several times. Believe me when I say - we know what we're talking about - especially those that have been around a while. So if you want to try and disagree with us, you're gunna have a bad time.
  4. Thats what everyone said when Todd Coates took on the role.... so I'm not as optimistic as you are Gary...
  5. Slick - I can't imagine the GCCC giving open slather to do what they please. I would suggest that the park's iconic position along with a deep-seated history in the area, not to mention the amount of tourism dollars they bring would be the source of whatever approvals they needed. If it was an 'overall' restriction, we'd see a lot of the hotels along the way planning massive renovations - especially places like Palazzo. No - i have no facts or evidence to base this on, but if any relaxation was required, this was most definitely a one-off just for the park.
  6. It would seem you might be onto something there... but I guess we won't know for sure for a few more decades.
  7. When it's certified and approved to open by the relevant authorities, and not a day sooner. You know - when you read a thread, you don't need to add a comment to it each and every time you visit...
  8. We used the SoCal city pass to do universal, sea world and disney. In 3 days you can accomplish most major things but you will miss a bit here and there. You have to be efficient about when you start the disney ticket off, because otherwise you won't get a chance at fantasmic, fireworks and world of colour, which in my opinion are all well worth it. If you have to choose - ditch the fireworks. I found it better to do the fireworks and then go to the later showing of fantasmic as there were less crowds, but it's still disastrously hard to manage everything in 3 days. The only reason I got everything done was because my Wife ended up in a wheelchair on day 3, and the backdoor wheelchair access sped things up considerably. I honestly believed we would need 4 days there, with park hopping - and again the only reason we didn't was because of the wheelchair - go for 3, but keep your options open for a 4th day in case you do feel the need or desire to go back one more day. It also depends on the season, and what days you go (their operational hours vary from day to day). As for six flags flash pass - go platinum. the additional benefits - queue once, ride twice, and very minimal wait times meant most of the time if we selected our next ride as we boarded the last, it would be ready for the next one by the time we made our way to it - so essentially little to no waiting time - but be prepared - it allows you to jump a considerable amount of the queue, but you will still queue with the masses - it's not a 'front of the line' pass. It's just like Q4U except the devices are a little bigger... but platinum was well worth it - including the 'pay extra' upgrades for X2 and whatever else they have on the list at the time. no matter what you have got to do a full-service flash pass, because every day is peak season at SFMM - mainly because they run the rides like DW do - low capacity, low staffing, high queue, and don't care. Seems a pity rather that you'll spend more money at a park like that - they don't seem to deserve it - but it's the only way to get the park done in a day.
  9. That was filmed the weekend of my Sea World Wedding... we had production crew running around everywhere...
  10. But this still doesn't clarify anything. Ok - fine - they're a zoo, or whatever 'the government' has decided to call them. BUT - they're a sea themed park. Marine life, conservation and education - and they're going to have Gorillas (note - no apostrophe), just doesn't fit the theme - they are a theme park after all. There are many Zoos that could take the animals in. Sure they aren't all in Australia - but the point is there.
  11. Thats just pathetic. If you can't run a ride with one operator because they need space to be able to cross over - and the only way you can do that is to close off a row of seats - thereby further reducing the capacity on an already atrocious capacity attraction - don't do it. When Wonderland started reducing the number of operators required on a ride for safe operation, they made numerous modifications to many rides (Bush Beast, Zodiac to name a couple) so that the operator could run it by themselves. In the case of Bush Beast, the op-booth was rebuilt off the side of the station so the operator could see the lift hill, guests in the queue, brake run and dispatch. In the case of Zodiac, the booth, which was positioned several metres off the ground with windows overhead to observe the ride in motion - they brought the control panel down to ground level. If Dreamworld cannot run Buzzsaw on one operator without closing off a row of seats, then they need to construct modify the station... perhaps like a floorless coaster station, where a floor comes up and around the train. They've got room to do SOMETHING like that, instead of closing a row of seats to convert it into a walkway - HOW RIDICULOUS IS THIS??? This just reinforces once again why I am not renewing my world pass. I've had VIP since they came out (Q150 before that) but only bought one world pass (two year platinum). Those two years are enough to make me realise that I don't want to go to a park that treats its guests like this. Shame dreamworld... shame.
  12. I've experienced this shudder whenever the car overshoots the station - I thought it was the braking system ?
  13. It may well be written as 'height less than 90cm'... but you'll find that it is under a heading that specifically states the items listed below are not permitted, etc. So not permitted is: [*]food and drink [*]height less than 90cm [*]etc...
  14. Excluding Looney Tunes Village... there was the great gremlins adventure... the young einstein gravity homestead.... pretty sure the original batman adventure... and as you say the police academy stunt show and the movie magic special effects tour (as well as the soundstage studio tour trams), along with the wild west stunt show in the showstage... back when it was more 'open'... Can't think of anything else in the park at that time...
  15. I know a guy that could afford it - but he wouldn't buy it unless he could bulldoze it and build a complex in it's place...
  16. *Checks* Nope - still nobody cares. So as we were saying - what are they going to do with that channel I wonder?
  17. Whoa man - like - chill out - this aint the 70s and 80s anymore, y'dig? One word torpedoes your entire argument - and it isn't even a word... just an acronym - ICAC. These days under freedom of information right to information, there are people who do nothing all day but request access to government records for the hell of it. Corruption doesn't happen like it did 20-30 years ago. Sure it happens - but people get CAUGHT. And they get caught quickly. Besides - if they all want it open so badly.... why isn't it open already? And if the Mayor wants it open so badly - where is he on public record saying so? Another RWC invention that is all in his head. I'm assuming that the Mods have deemed the topic to be of little value - as they're giving it quite a run. Perhaps this is the new 'off-topic' topic... It's like like people in Victoria matter anyway...
  18. And in the age of government transparency, the lord mayor is going to be able to pull strings to fast track an application with the state government for a private enterprise to get into business quickly - while all the other people making applications and waiting like everyone else have to sit by and watch? Extremely unlikely. Your original post also didn't indicate you 'meant' the mayor when you referred to 'the council' You said:
  19. It'd be salt water though - so not suitable for it to serve any purpose other than to 'look' like a jungle river.
  20. Edges out - as in 'exceeds' ? I thought Viper had a 'relaxation' on the height limit on the spit because it was pre-existing - does storm actually go higher than that? Is there a relaxation required for this? What is the spit height limit, and what are the heights of the two respective coasters? (yes I know what RCDB would say - but this is usually based on a model type - whether the footings are all 'at sea level' would make a difference though, compared to whether it was elevated - in terms of the spit height limit...
  21. How does it 'appear' that they have one? - Oh I see - you're 'guessing' that they still have it or are confident the council would fast track the application? Pity it is not the council responsible for liquor licensing... Council could certainly support or endorse the application, but the decision is usually up to the relevant department for liquor, gaming and racing - whichever form or face it has in VIC... its a state issue, not a local one.
  22. What is the likelihood of them filling in that channel? It looks pretty shallow so I can't imagine it being of much use - unless they run a boat down it - in which case it's too narrow to allow two-way travel...
  23. Have you considered the fact that you can't just re-open it - if, for instance, they no longer hold a liquor license? On closure, they may have sold it lost it, and had to reapply for it. Maybe chose not to reapply, and now can't because the two nearby prohibit a third? There are rules and regulations on liquor licensing that include considerations for proximity in certain areas. I know the burnt out Victory in the Brisbane CBD had some licensing issues between when it closed down and when it reopened... but they obviously resolved it. Now - if I have to crap on about Mack refurbishing the Savoy I will - but this topic is about work out the front of LPM, not some bygone era of melbourne 'pubs'... can we delete the last 11-12 posts and move on... we're still on page one! <insert future mack joke here>
