  1. Yeah - as to the random-ness of the time of day - it really depends on what else maintenance had to do that morning - the more issues that come up, the later they'll be getting to the next ride and so-on.
  2. not necessarily. Just find a movie theme that ties in with an existing land. It's a bad example, but free willy 4 (feat. Bindi Irwin) has just come out - and would fit into ocean parade. I wouldn't suggest that as a coaster theme, but thats what i mean about tying in.
  3. No offense Justin, but I couldn't follow you. Try a single thought, in a single sentence. Tie each idea together. If it's a different idea, press enter a couple times before you start typing. It flows better and makes it much easier to read. Well, that does sound good, and right up dreamworld's (adrenalin) alley. Perhaps nobody commented, because they had the same issue as above ^^^
  4. Sounds like standard morning opening for a tower. At least that is how it was on Probe... As I recall, they winch the cable up into the head of the tower overnight to prevent the cable whipping around in the wind without a load attached to it. In the morning, they have to lower it manually, which comes down very VERY slowly.
  5. Win? all WnW would have to do is open Calypso over winter - few hours in the middle of the day to advertise the same thing... WWW need to do something to stand out - not imitate. I like the lazy river idea - it will certainly soak up guests and increase capacity - but they need a point of difference right now - i do like the idea of a swim up bar, but i can't see that it is feasible. the logistics would be a nightmare.
  6. Well it was only a suggestion. As to the surveillance, i didn't mean one person for the whole attraction... One person in the surveillance room, and one person able to attend spots of trouble (you can get anywhere at calypso in about 15 seconds) If further assistance was required (which would not be constant), your security or guest relations staff could attend.
  7. You could always substitute staff with surveillance - one operator to watch the entire course - and nobody can say thats a safety issue because they did it on snowy - where the waters were much more turbulent. As for insulating the pools to minimise heat loss - i've seen something somewhere where you chuck it in the water, and it spreads a non-toxic film across the surface of the water, and it acts like a pool blanket - that would be a feasibile option for a lazy river, would it not?
  8. I think theres a who wants to be a millionaire one on there too - thats even harder to do perfect - but you can cut corners. If you haven't seen it clint, i think theres some aspects that would be right up your alley...
  9. No Justin - Whitsy was in any thread where he could fit in the words "gay" and other such nonsense... i don't believe he restricted himself to a single thread. DocBrown \ MRT \ Batman (who is now Spencer as mentioned above) did venture outside the MW threads. I don't even remember summerfun91, so it mustn't have been too bad But yes - agree, i don't think anyone has set a record quicker than lyle.
  10. Hmmm.... You're right Original, that DOES seem familiar...... In the industry, linear synchronous motor-launched is just referred to as LSM. If you've posted something in another thread, it generally isn't necessary to post an almost identical comment less than 12 hours later in another thread. We saw it, we read it, we figured you just googled or randomly picked up from RCDB - and we didn't say much about it... let it go. On the lighter side of ice cream - mods - there are two "dreamworld thrill" threads (see quote above) perhaps a merger is in order?
  11. Finally gets the point? I never said dreamworld was unsafe. I said you can't make a statement that it's the safest in the world - exactly the same thing that Ash said. You said that absolutely nothing can happen. I said you can't say that and you have to allow for the possibility that something CAN go wrong. Who said I hated you? All i've done is expressed frustration at a child who can't see logic. I described an extreme situation in the hope that you might actually get the point, instead of rehashing the same ideals without some shred of proof. At the end of the day, this whole "safest park in the world" crap came up because someone said wipeout creaked a little - geezus - it creaks on every cycle - it's the nature of the mechanics involved. As to winning an award - who cares? It may just mean the judges granting the award weren't shown the bad stuff? anything's possible... At the end of the day, you're entitled to an OPINION. And noone can, or will take that away from you. When you go around categorically stating your opinion as FACT, you will be asked to put up, or shut up. It is simple, and logical. You don't need to throw a tantrum screaming at the floor because someone shot you down. You deserved it. There is no need to further throw a "i'm going to delete my profile" tantrum as well. To be honest - people who behave like that will be welcome to delete their profiles. This subject matter does attract a younger audience. The only thing the membership (the "community" if you will) has ever asked is for a bit of thought into what you post, and a bit of maturity (which is why things like chatspeak are frowned upon). There are many actively contributing members here who have put a lot into what the site is today, who got off to a rocky start in the past. I don't want to embarass anyone, but Klassen and Spencer are two such examples. To get in touch with Bussy or Daniel - look them up in the members list, and send them a PM or Email from their profile. You may want to approach Daniel with caution. A better suggestion if you want to know about their experiences, would be to review their older posts. It would be far more educational, and not so annoying to them, if you read their older posts, particularly in the Wonderland Sydney forum, as that is where they worked. Be prepared though - if you do approach them, and speak to them how you have spoken to me, they will probably either delete the message or throw it back at you 100 times worse than just wishing for a ride to crash while you're riding solo.
  12. Again you're making these claims without any evidence to substantiate them! Prove it, or shut up. Ok - so where are your sources? Where do they get the information from. Is it an independent evaluation done by the local workplace health and safety authorities? An amusement industry regulatory body? Again, Prove it or shut up. Slightly incorrect? Something is either right or it's wrong. You can't have it both ways. If a staff member talks to a member of the general public, and discusses their employer in a negative manner, they are out of a job - it's simple. no staff member is going to talk publicly about any park negatives. So if they are asked by joe bloggs in the queue line, of course they're going to talk about how safe everything is. The only way you can be reassured that NOTHING will happen is if you don't ride. ANYTHING CAN happen. ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE. Your safety is reliant on a lot of people doing the right thing. If one guy's wife walks out on him the night before and he absentmindedly forgets to check a bolt or a cable or a plug - BAM - see you later. You cannot state categorically that nothing will happen - you can't see into the future to know that is true. So you're saying that a winch cable couldn't snap in australia? I think you need to talk to Daniel and Bussy again - Bussy was actually operating an AUSTRALIAN ROLLER COASTER - where that exact thing happened - the winch cable snapped. WRONG AGAIN! If you read through the reports done on the american version (which I believe was the same model) the ride was checked - just not properly. Again - any technician can sign off on a ride while not completing certain steps. The specific step the american technician skipped was to hold a cloth\glove (or similar) over the greased cable, and run the cable through it to pick up on burrs or loose strands of cable. Not a hard thing to do - but what if a DW mechanic missed it - theres lots of what-if's, and unless they display daily video of the mechanic doing every safety check - you can't be certain that nothing will go wrong. Honestly - I hope you ride a DW attraction one day - solo (so noone else gets hurt) and I hope it catastrophically fails and either seriously maims, or kills you - maybe then you would learn that there is no absolute certainty to what you are saying.
  13. I can say that quite easily - a THEME Park, as opposed to an AMUSEMENT park has a coherent, cohesive and consistent theme. Most of the smaller parks around australia don't quite manage to do that - take aussie world - they do have a theme (aussie) and do well with things such as Mozzie Musta, but I fail to see how an attraction such as the RockNRoll Rebel fits that theme. And thats why I say that there really only are three. WnW and WWW are water parks, not theme parks, despite how well (or not) they pull off a given theme. Movie World pulls it off well. Each attraction is tied in well with their theme - about movies. They don't have different "lands" as such (they do, but it still ties in with movies). Dreamworld has different "lands" and each "land" has a reasonably consistent theme (with some exceptions - such as RedLine in ocean parade - although considering Indy is on the gold coast shoreline - there is a tenuous link). Sea World's theme is - naturally - the Sea, and they also do well to tie the theme in across the park. These are the 3 that i refer to. I'm open to any other parks you can suggest have a consistent, cohesive and coherent theme.... but i'm not aware of any that pull it off on australian shores.
  14. No, i'm happy to answer. For starters, the last post I made to this thread was in DECEMBER 2008. Now given that we are some 16 months later, some circumstances have changed. Most members here would be able to tell you that 2 years ago, DW was definitely in the poor mans position. WVTP were the top dog, and there was no disputing that. WVTP just did everything better, while DW was constantly reponding with poor comebacks (constant adding of upcharge attractions, without decent drawcards, lack of upkeep, maintenance, removal of rides without adding new ones - essentially a money-grubbing mentality). As I said, some circumstances have changed. We are still yet to see a good quality E-ticket attraction from Dreamworld, but the grapevine suggests one isn't too far away. WVTP on the other hand have swayed a little in the other direction. I don't hold any grudge against Dreamworld, but i'm not about to part with money to an organisation who have repeatedly demonstrated that money is the only object, no matter what the sacrifice. Sadly it seems WVTP are leaning in that direction also, and I too am becoming critical of them. Agree with gold coaster - bumping threads to comment on a post that old are quite ridiculous, especially when you haven't added anything new to the conversation to warrant the post. In closing, flaming mongrels and tunafish.
  15. I think you need to have a talk to Bussy and Daniel. The fact is, regardless of what safety measures are in place, what steps are taken, or how much money is thrown at the upkeep and maintenance, the fact is that ANYTHING can happen whilst on those thrill rides. So staff - definitely the place to go for an unbiased opinion, not to mention that they're likely to lose their jobs if they talk in a negative manner about their employer. And Internet research - well - chalk one up for wikipedia - we know how reliable that is!
  16. Where do you get these statistics from Lyle? I don't have any reports to contradict you, but i'm curious as to where your stats come from? WVTP also have multi-million dollar thrill rides, and many attractions too. As a matter of fact, if you've read some of the forums on dreamworld in the past, there are plenty of examples where Dreamworld have gone for the cheaper side of things. It's also easy to say "one of the safest in australia" when if you look at it realistically, there really only are 3 parks you can call "theme" parks in australia.
  17. That looks to be the same model as the one up at Aussie World. If so, i've seen 3 adults and 2 children fit comfortably inside without limits. I think the comments were that with 3 people sitting ON THE ONE SIDE of the gondola made it unbalanced. If the operators had loaded all the gondola's on one side, that would also make the whole structure unbalanced. In general, rotating rides like that tend to load opposite sides together to keep the weight balanced, so if the guests were all loaded in gondolas one after the other, instead of diagonally opposite, that would spell trouble too.
  18. QFT? am i missing something or just living on another planet.... Gazza explain please....
  19. wow Lyle, you're really making a good first impression, aren't you?
  20. I seem to remember a conversation like this a while ago. as I recall, the follow up reply to this type of comment was "I know something you don't know"...
  21. Just like last year, I don't think they will make mention of it until after july 1. How else will they connive the annual passholders that got ripped off last year to renew again at the premium price point?
  22. Something a bit more realistic might have worked. It's good to see a lot of news and events outlets coming up with interesting ideas for April 1.
  23. You only have to ride it, or stand in the observation area, and look for the flash to know which one works - or check out the on-ride photos in the kiosk and check out the background... it is definitely the set on the facade doing the work. The helix photos always shot from below you - you ended up with a lot of feet. The facade ones get you in the middle of a turn, so the train is spread out on the side the camera is on - and gives a better shot of both riders.
  24. I love it - obviously DW\WWW's PR department teed up the press visit, and to have the even the media refer to it as something other than a "loop" just cements the mistake in their marketing propaganda.
