A toboggan ride. possibly the only way to describe it is to refer to the toboggan slide that used to reside at SeaWorld - you ride on a plastic toboggan down an almost vertical chute of water, that levels out at the end, and lands you in a big puddle. It used to be located between tasmanian devil and ampol's antique autos. it was removed around the same time that the beach was opened, for numerous reasons including injury and overkill. You can still see the old wooden tower that you had to climb up to get to the top, hauling your toboggan on the way. The landing zone was where the spirit of the outback show used to be held, and after that, where the lion cubs were housed.

Wiggles World coming to Dreamworld
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to Richard's topic in Theme Park Discussion
the wiggles school holiday attraction is going into the old tomb raider site, however this may not be the final position for the full "wiggles world"... which may end up being somewhere else in the park. Just the same as Movie World has Hi-5 on contract as entertainment, Dreamworld has the Wiggles...... Just the same as Movie World has Superman due to be built soon, Dreamworld has.... oooops said to much. -

Braking on Roller-coasters
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to Nebuchanezzar's topic in Theme Park Discussion
ok well lets break it down... (the train comes to a complete stop), (the text listed in italics above was left out due to assumed common sense, obviously, that was a mistake). When the line below it said "operator manually opens brakes to allow them to move forward, one would assume that they were not moving forward prior to the operator manually opening the brakes. I would also like to quote the following as well: -
Braking on Roller-coasters

Im not going to say anything - im just going to quote the next line after the one you quoted: -
there were two sets of wheels. At the pivot point, there were electronics, which would tell the motors at the bottom which way the ship was coming down. From what I can gather, the higher the ship gets, the slower the wheels turn. As the ship begins to drop, be it from the same side it went up, or if it goes completely over, the wheels then begin to spin in the necessary direction to propel the ship through the station again. The wheels never turned against the ship's direction, but they turned in the same direction a bit slower than the ship to slow it down. I'm sure bussy or daniel could confirm further if there was a different scenario in the case of an E-Stop? (although, yes, i know Daniel has said it would be almost pointless to E-stop the ship in mid swing...). I am pretty sure some "swinging ship" style rides have two sets of wheels, where one drives one way, the other drives the other, and there are hydraulic jacks used to push up the set of wheels needed for the correct action, so the wheels see-saw, one up one down, but I don't believe Bounty did it this way.

Diannasaurus, what about Fred Flintstone's Splashdown? or Ned Kelly's Get Away? these were both water rides, that did not require a swimming costume...

Braking on Roller-coasters

from what i understand, the first in the series of "brake run" brakes before the station remain in the "closed" position at all times, but they are a decelerator brake, so the train doesnt just hit them and stop, but brings it to a stop within a few metres. These brakes remain closed, until the operator manually opens the brakes, and allows them to move forward. My understanding of this sort of system comes from operating Bush Beast. This system at Bush Beast did just as described above, and the operator would release the brakes in the brake run, and keep the brake release pressed until such time as it was in the correct position in the station. The same action was necessary to release the train from the station for dispatch. As soon as the operator removed their hand from the release button, the brakes would close and stop the train where it stood. I'm not sure how this worked in two-train operation, and whether there is a separate button for bringing in to the station and despatching, but on one train operation, i am fairly sure this is how it worked... -
HAHA! for the VISION impaired, heres a photo of VISIONLAND! lol. i can see what you are referring to dr teeth, but those sections of track would not be standing if they werent bolted together. optical illusion mate...

Wonderbuzz will probably know this as well as I do, but for those wanting to get a little piece of wonderland, the entire gateway arch, including the wonderland logo, and the two painted images- spiderman and the hulk, are located out near richmond windsor way.... in between bligh park near windsor, and richmond is a road linking windsor to londonderry called "the driftway". on "The Driftway" is a junkyard. it has buses, train carriages, and loads and loads of junk and other things you'd never imagine. Sitting straight in front of you as you enter the gate is the old wonderland gateway signage... i saw it today and got a bit nostalgic at the same time.

the screen at least looks modern and new, which is more than I can say for the old shadecloth and scaffolding that used to be there for the high wire.

Well make up your mind... which is it... 108 or 87?

good to see you utilising your account OZSHOWKID. I used to be a games operator at Wonderland Sydney, and as im guessing by your nick and your comments (also your signature) that you are a part of the "greatest show on earth" Personally I am disgusted at the members who have voiced their dislike towards people such as yourself, and have made that opinion obvious. Welcome, and Welcome back to the forums, and let me say that not all of the members of these forums are such narrow minded gits with their heads up their rectal passages... These people are those who think that even the local shows should have the quality and the financial backing of a Disney Theme park, and believe that noone except themselves has a right to earn a living. Allow me to apologise for their behaviour on behalf of those members who are not pigs.

see this is the problem with rumors. The first statement was a semi-official statement, saying a 40 metre top hat. The second statement was "possibly OVER 40 metres" The third statement, naturally, since its OVER 40 metres, means it must be 50 METRES... then everyone latches onto a conversation about it being 50 metres.... then someone will say its 50 or more then someone will say higher than 50... then someone will say its 60 metres.... and the whole process repeats itself...

He is also an absolute retard, because the people at Fly Coaster have already confirmed that the free fall ride currently SBNO on their property ISWAS the skyhawk from wonderland, and the funny thing is Paul, they confirmed it TO YOU! http://www.parkz.com.au/forums/sh...rland#post11196 So if the one on the gold coast is from magic mountain, and the one on the gold coast is from wonderland, then the one at wonderland must have been from Magic Mountain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ok paul well heres another vote for hearing the story about maintenance. its very rare that maintenance were in public areas. mostly they tried to come around the back way, and while they were in the stationhousemachine room, the ride was closed off so no guests were near them anyway... the only times i've seen maintenance in public areas are when they're heading to demon or probe, or if they were in the park on another call already and had to head up to HBL (which they still used the bush track behind dodgems for to avoid the crowds anyway, it was just faster to walk through the park///

which version? the original wonderland was written and performed specifically for Australia's Wonderland. 911? i think that was just a commercial release track that happened to have all the right aspects to suit being a theme park theme song...
-
No Joz, but a similar idea. The disney version uses waterjets, which judging by the report on miceage, does experience problems with weight variations on riders, and not being able to propel some riders, some of the time. this new Zip Coaster style idea utilises what looks to be a high speed conveyor belt. Something that concerns me about something like that is the potential for a foot or an arm to get caught in "said belt"

To be honest, most of those shopping centre charity workers are backpacker travellers, and they make a commission on every person they sign up. if they don't sign anyone, they don't make anything. trust me, these people would not be so pushy if they didn't make anything off the deal. They DO yell, and they ARE rude... Personally, i think the carnies are better mannered than the charity shopping centre people.

Disney Land Puts in the highest bid for wonderland
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to pantherfan030's topic in Theme Park Discussion
i can't see them moving BB. Taking the usable parts and constructing a new one might be feasible, but if BB survives, it will be on its current site only... that im pretty sure of. -
Wazza, i take "between the first two loops" to indicate the first inversion to the second inversion, which would be in the middle of the boomerang. I haven't gone back to re-read it but I think it talked of the fire department being required to extricate the riders... which i think would indicate them not being right way up. Im going to go and re read it... still unclear... im open to both versions i suppose...

depends on which version of the theme song you are talking about denim dude. the original theme song was quite pleasurable to listen to, and was rarely repeated over and over, more towards the end of the day at closing... the 911 - Wonderland song could get a bit annoying, but as an employee of the park I think i was one of the only ones who actually enjoyed it...
