I get the feeling Sea World has more to come. Like MW they've gotten a bit of a reputation about having things closed, so expanding their lineup can't hurt. I kinda see WWW as less of a critical factor for several reasons - not least of which is it's seasonal operation. As long as they continue to operate it for only part of the year, I don't think WWW is the priority. Also, because it is co-located, it's more open for park hopping during the day, whereas a WnW day tends to be a full day for most guests, because a park hop typically requires bundling into the car to relocate closer to the other park. For all those reasons, WWW is not really in the same (forgotten) position as WnW - WnW really needs to be able to hold its own as a full day park, whereas WWW has for several years now been regarded as a part-day add-on, and only for part of the year. Look, Gerstlauer's foray into Australia with Abyss was Abyss-mal. That rollercoaster should be condemned. I'd love to see a HangTime clone over here as it is hands down my son's favourite rollercoaster, and the one by which all others are compared. It's a lot of fun, plenty of inversions and thrills, with a lower height requirement than some of the other big boys. I'd mention the awesome lighting package it has, but sadly we'd never see it with our 5pm closure times. As long as they've ironed out whatever issues they had with Abyss and the Australian Weather conditions, it's a plus one from me. I'm not an engineer so i'm not about to say they could replace the hydraulics with LSMs without some sort of swing being necessary without seeing some real data on it. What I will say as a layperson is that the full length of the superman launch is approximately 40 metres long, to crest a 40 metre tophat with a max speed of approximately 100km/h. Meanwhile Steel Taipan uses a magnetic launch system approximately 75 metres long (which it hits three times in a swing launch). And the max height for steel taipan is the same 40 metre height, with a comparable max speed of 105km/h. Intamin might have some shit-hot gear over what Zamperla is using, but is it really (napkin math) 6 times better than Mack Rides systems too? it's ok, they'll just relocate it to Sea World in 2027, due to open in 2032!

I don't think you've got the launch length for LSMs to work, and a swing launch wouldn't work with the current storyline, unless it's "Superman: Escape from the old folk's home"

WetNWild is the poor cousin that everyone forgets about. I think the pre-covid pattern of a park having 'their turn' is probably a little bit outdated, and there is more for the parks to do than just open blockbuster attractions each year. We've also seen Village group projects run simultaneously across several properties, and also several projects at the same property. Likewise Dreamworld needs to keep up momentum and going a year or two without 'something' will see them fade quickly. I personally think we'll see the parks capitalise on the success of their big attraction releases this (or early next) year by introducing some new entertainment offerings, and perhaps filling some of the smaller gaps in their lineups by opening smaller or lower cost attractions for kids or the family market - as I feel they've both got a lot of thrills already taken care of.

Rebel Coaster Incident Investigation Concluded
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to Naazon's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Raging Spirits at TDS has an inversion and all loose articles are carried on board (yes, not Australia, I know). I don't think it's as simple as "inversions = strict" and lots of factors come into play - how exposed the ride vehicle is, whether there are negative forces that could eject articles, as opposed to positive forces that will keep them precisely where they are, and also how open to bystanders the ride envelope is. CorkScrew comes to mind - inversions over the top of guests, and although they did have storage boxes there was no strict 'no items' policy that these days would likely see phones carried on board... (though if it were operating post-2016, we'd probably see nets installed under the corkscrew and metal detectors in the queue, so who knows?)- 40 replies

USS - Expansion Minions and Nintendo
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to Tim Dasco's topic in Theme Park Discussion
The Madagascar plot is potentially the largest land in the park. Crate adventure certainly occupied a LOT of space back there. Excuse the poor paint efforts here, but here's what they're working with. There's plenty of space for this (though noting they've apparently only built one simulator room for Mayhem instead of two, so that saves them a fair bit of space, though it will kill capacity a bit... -
I think the point is, their previous price point was stupidly overpriced, and resulted in the seats dispatching empty a majority of the time. I'm happy to see it approaching a level that most find acceptable either as a 'once per visit' or even more, simply to keep the seats full. In fact, i'd be happy if there were a 2-3 cycle wait for these seats as opposed to them generally being a walk-on.

I'm hearing that Leviathan and DC Rivals have both had a recent price drop on their rear row - Rivals is now $20 for backwards (fasttrack for forwards is $25). not sure how much Levi is but hearing similar adjustments over at SW have been made.

Yeah look, that would be a fair interpretation, if it wasn't for the fact that that also isn't a 'never been done before' thing either. Land of Oz (theme park) - Wikipedia I've been saying this since the Flash BTS content started to release. I think their media team have really lifted their game to new heights (or gotten fresh blood?) and i'm super keen to see Village continue to push out their great insights into new constructions and other activities going on behind the scenes. But that doesn't mean i'm not going to call out bullshit from the C-suite.

Definitive MW Arena show
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to DaptoFunlandGuy's topic in Theme Park Discussion
The thread was specifically started based off of the "main arena" (that being the one at the end of main street, which the context of the online discussion had clearly outlined, which is why the options were limited to only the occupants of that arena), but by all means, feel free to create your own thread on the Show stage and it's former incarnations (i'd be voting for Maverick, but thats just me)- 16 replies

Yesterday I made a joke to someone that this was where the rotting shack from next to first aid ended up, but yours is better. the nostalgic heartstrings are torn from memories of racing to paint the whole picture, in the short refresh time you had, with such bad touchscreen accuracy that would never wash today but we all just accepted as the coolest tech ever back in the day. YOU CAN PAINT ON A SCREEN WITH YOUR FINGER!

Yeah we read a number of different sources and some assured us it'd never happen again, and others cautioned that 'as long as its an active option in the App, they can switch it on in surge periods'. We thought it was odd because the full day we had in park felt busier.

clearly it solves the issues of having two riders in a seat of various sizes and ensuring both are appropriately restrained.

Dreamworld Maintenance Schedule 2024
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to themagician's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Honestly with the winds we've been having recently, i'm not surprised it's been down. Maybe they decided to keep KFF and Claw open due to that? -
Just a slight amendment to this - As at June, timed entry to HP was an active option in the app, however it was not in use every day. We visited on a 1.5 day ticket, and entry was restricted on our first (half) day in the afternoon, but not the following (full) day when we had our express pass. The terms and conditions on the USJ website do specify that the timed entry requirements depend on crowd conditions, so if the area is important to you, the Express will guarantee you entry. *Important to note that USJ releases express passes in date blocks, so keep an eye on the website to ensure you buy them as soon as they become available. With DK opening later in the year, they may go quickly.

Universal Singapore has recovered fully from the covid shutdowns and is in full swing. Minions land is rumoured to open by Christmas - however many spaces outside of the park in the Resorts World area of Sentosa are under redevelopment so you may need to go farther afield from the park to complete your day (there's plenty of other sentosa attractions to occupy the day though!) After visiting earlier this year, I could honestly skip the Tokyo Disney parks on a repeat visit - Unless the additions since your last visit warrant a return. The crowds and the cost are simply too high right now. Universal Hollywood - if you've never done it before, I highly recommend doing the USH VIP Tour. While it is a bit pricier (and you should book further in advance to secure your spot) the inclusions do make it great value for money, and the experience is incomparable to visiting with a normal day-ticket. Knott's. Love this park. could spend multiple days just soaking the atmosphere. Enjoy it! Fuji Q and Nagashima - we missed these on our most recent trip to Japan. Travel times were prohibitive, so if you do plan to go, would recommend staying nearby and arriving the day before your planned visit. End of year will be winter, and from what I recall, the potential for bad weather may see the park close attractions unexpectedly, so bear this in mind. Universal Osaka - staying on property was great here - and Port Universal was a great little hotel a short stroll from the front gate. Express 8 pass sorely needed during busier periods. USJ has some of the most restrictive ride restraints i've encountered, so if you're tall, have broad shoulders, carry a little extra weight around the midsection or are otherwise outside the average japanese build (long legs for example) you may not fit on certain attractions. Test seats are everywhere and cast members will ask you to try at the entrance if they think you may not fit. The park has advertised opening times, but frequently opens much earlier - sometimes more than an hour before. It depends on crowds. If you want to ensure you can enter nintendo land and\or harry potter, you either need to arrive insanely early to ensure you get in early enough to get a free timed entry spot, or alternatively there are upcharges like the express 8 which include guaranteed entry times. Can't give any advice for China parks as I haven't been yet - but can advise you to drink and brush teeth with bottled water only Six Flags Magic Mountain - The current park operating calendar states that the park is closed from December 30th and doesn't show a reopening date, (though I would presume this just hasn't been loaded yet). I'd recommend going on a weekday as weekends are insanely busy with locals and passholders (check the calendar to make sure its open the day you want to go). The Platinum Flash pass has been necessary for us on our last two visits, and makes for a far more pleasant day. Going in winter you are far more likely to encounter ride closures, so do your research on what will be available ahead of time to see if it is worth going...

lol. And guns kill people. And cars kill people. And knives kill people. And peanuts kill people. Regulations have a bad way of lagging behind technology. many countries are still struggling with how to handle crypto currency and rideshare. Hell - Japan is still using FAX machines and many places in Japan don't accept VISA cards, let alone ApplePay. But many people have embraced these technologies and they aren't going to go away just because people are misusing them. But - the misuse needs to happen in order for authorities to recognise the need for regulation. (go check out the Napster case for example) Don't campaign for cancellation - campaign for regulation.
